1Abraham heiratete noch einmal. Seine ´zweite` Frau hieß Ketura.2Die beiden bekamen mehrere Söhne: Simran, Jokschan, Medan, Midian, Jischbak und Schuach.3Jokschan war der Vater von Saba und Dedan. Von Dedan stammen die Aschuriter, die Letuschiter und die Lëummiter ab.4Midians Söhne waren Efa, Efer, Henoch, Abida und Eldaga. Diese alle sind Nachkommen der Ketura.5Abraham vermachte Isaak seinen ganzen Besitz.6Den Söhnen seiner Nebenfrauen gab er Geschenke und schickte sie noch zu seinen Lebzeiten in den Osten, damit sie sich nicht in Isaaks Nähe ansiedelten[1].
Abrahams Tod und Begräbnis
7Abraham wurde 175 Jahre alt.8Er starb nach einem langen und erfüllten Leben und wurde ´im Tod` mit seinen Vorfahren vereint.9Seine Söhne Isaak und Ismael bestatteten ihn in der Höhle von Machpela. Sie befindet sich östlich von Mamre auf dem Grundstück, das früher dem Hetiter Efron, dem Sohn Zohars, gehört hatte10und das Abraham den Hetitern abgekauft hatte. Dort wurde Abraham neben seiner Frau Sara zur letzten Ruhe gebettet.11Nach Abrahams Tod segnete Gott auch dessen Sohn Isaak. Isaak wohnte damals beim »Brunnen des Lebendigen, der mich sieht«.
Ismaels Nachkommen
12Dies ist das Verzeichnis der Nachkommen Ismaels:[2] Ismael war der Sohn von Abraham und Hagar, der ägyptischen Sklavin Saras. (1Mo 2,4)13Die Namen seiner Söhne sind hier nach der Reihenfolge ihrer Geburt[3] aufgelistet: Der erstgeborene Sohn Ismaels war Nebajot, darauf folgten Kedar, Adbeel, Mibsam, (1Mo 2,4)14Mischma, Duma, Massa,15Hadad, Tema, Jetur, Nafisch und Kedma.16Das sind die ´zwölf` Söhne Ismaels. Nach ihnen wurden die Stämme der Ismaeliter benannt, die in Siedlungen und Zeltdörfern wohnten – zwölf Stämme mit je einem Fürsten an der Spitze.17Ismael starb im Alter von 137 Jahren und wurde ´im Tod` mit seinen Vorfahren vereint.18Seine Nachkommen wohnten zwischen Hawila und Schur, das östlich der ägyptischen Grenze in Richtung Assyrien liegt. ´Von ihnen gilt, was über Ismael gesagt wurde:` »Seinen Brüdern stellt er sich entgegen.«[4] (1Mo 16,12)
Isaaks weitere Familiengeschichte: Esau und Jakob
19Dies ist die weitere Geschichte von Isaak und seiner Familie:[5] Isaak war Abrahams Sohn. (1Mo 2,4)20Als er vierzig Jahre alt war, heiratete er Rebekka. Sie war die Tochter des Aramäers Betuël und die Schwester Labans. Sie stammte aus dem oberen Mesopotamien.21Rebekka konnte keine Kinder bekommen. Darum bat Isaak den HERRN für seine Frau, und der HERR erhörte seine Bitte: Rebekka wurde schwanger.22´Als sie merkte, dass es Zwillinge waren`, die sich in ihrem Bauch gegenseitig heftig traten, seufzte sie: »Wenn sie sich jetzt schon streiten, warum bin ich dann überhaupt schwanger geworden?«[6] Sie fragte den HERRN danach,23und er antwortete ihr: »Zwei Völker trägst du in deinem Leib, zwei Volksstämme streiten sich in deinem Bauch[7]. Der eine ist stärker als der andere – der Ältere wird sich dem Jüngeren unterordnen müssen.«24Als die Stunde der Geburt kam, brachte Rebekka Zwillinge zur Welt.25Der erste war am ganzen Körper mit rotbraunen Haaren bedeckt; sie nannten ihn Esau (»der Behaarte«)[8].26Danach kam sein Bruder heraus, und dabei hielt er Esaus Ferse umklammert. Deshalb nannten sie ihn Jakob (»Fersenhalter«)[9]. Isaak war bei der Geburt der Zwillinge sechzig Jahre alt. (1Mo 27,36)27Die Jungen wuchsen heran. Esau wurde ein Mann, der sich auf die Jagd verstand und sich gern im Freien aufhielt. Jakob hingegen war ein häuslicher Mann, der lieber bei den Zelten blieb.28´Ihr Vater` Isaak mochte Esau lieber, weil er gern das Wild aß, ´das Esau nach Hause brachte`. Jakob aber war der Liebling Rebekkas.
Esau verkauft sein Erstgeburtsrecht
29Eines Tages hatte Jakob gerade einen Eintopf gekocht, als Esau erschöpft von der Jagd[10] nach Hause kam.30»Lass mich schnell von deinem roten Gericht da essen, ich bin völlig erschöpft!«, rief er. Deshalb bekam Esau den Beinamen Edom (»Roter«)[11].31»Nur wenn du mir vorher dein Vorrecht abtrittst, das du als Erstgeborener besitzt[12]«, entgegnete Jakob.32Esau antwortete: »Ich sterbe fast ´vor Hunger`[13], was nützt mir da mein Erstgeburtsrecht?«33»Dann verzichte auf der Stelle mit einem Schwur darauf!«, forderte Jakob. Esau schwor es ihm und verkaufte seine Rechte als Erstgeborener an seinen Bruder.34Jakob gab ihm den Linseneintopf und dazu noch etwas Brot. Esau aß und trank. Dann stand er auf und ging davon. So gering schätzte Esau sein Recht als Erstgeborener.
1Und Abraham nahm wieder eine Frau, die hieß Ketura. (1Chr 1,32)2Die gebar ihm den Simran und den Jokschan, den Medan und den Midian, den Jischbak und den Schuach. Die Söhne von Dedan aber waren die Assuriter, Letusiter und Leumiter, (1Mo 10,7; 1Kön 10,1; Hi 6,19; Hes 27,15; Hes 27,20)4und die Söhne Midians waren Epha, Epher, Henoch, Abida und Eldaa. Diese alle sind Söhne der Ketura. (Jes 60,6)5Und Abraham gab seinen ganzen Besitz dem Isaak. (1Mo 24,36; 1Mo 25,11)6Aber den Söhnen, die er von den Nebenfrauen hatte, gab Abraham Geschenke und schickte sie, während er noch lebte, von seinem Sohn Isaak weg nach Osten in das Morgenland. Dort wurden Abraham und seine Frau Sarah begraben. (1Mo 23,17; 1Mo 49,31)11Und es geschah nach dem Tod Abrahams, da segnete Gott seinen Sohn Isaak. Und Isaak wohnte bei dem »Brunnen des Lebendigen, der [mich] sieht«. (1Mo 24,62; 1Mo 26,12; 1Mo 26,24; Ps 112,2)
Die Nachkommen Ismaels
12Dies ist die Geschichte Ismaels, des Sohnes Abrahams, den Hagar, Sarahs ägyptische Magd, dem Abraham gebar. (1Mo 16,10)13Und dies sind die Namen der Söhne Ismaels, nach denen ihre Geschlechter genannt sind: Der Erstgeborene Ismaels: Nebajoth, dann Kedar und Adbeel und Mibsam, (1Mo 36,3; Ps 120,5; Jes 21,16; Jes 60,7)14Mischma, Duma, Massa, (Jes 21,11)15Hadad, Tema, Jetur, Naphisch und Kedma. (1Mo 17,20; 4Mo 7,84)17Und Ismael wurde 137 Jahre alt, und er verschied und starb und wurde zu seinem Volk versammelt.18Sie wohnten aber von Hawila an bis nach Schur, das vor Ägypten liegt, und bis nach Assur hin; gegenüber von allen seinen Brüdern ließ er sich nieder. (1Mo 16,7; 1Mo 20,1; 2Mo 15,22)
Die beiden Söhne Isaaks: Esau und Jakob
19Dies ist die Geschichte Isaaks, des Sohnes Abrahams. Abraham zeugte Isaak. (1Chr 1,28; Mt 1,2; Lk 3,34; Apg 7,8)20Und Isaak war 40 Jahre alt, als er Rebekka zur Frau nahm, die Tochter Bethuels, des Aramäers aus Paddan-Aram[1], die Schwester des Aramäers Laban. (1Mo 26,34; Jos 5,6)21Isaak aber bat den HERRN für seine Frau, denn sie war unfruchtbar; und der HERR ließ sich von ihm erbitten, und seine Frau Rebekka wurde schwanger. Esau verkauft sein Erstgeburtsrecht
27Und als die Knaben groß wurden, da wurde Esau ein tüchtiger Jäger, ein Mann des freien Feldes; Jakob aber war ein sittsamer Mann, der bei den Zelten blieb. (1Mo 6,9; 1Mo 10,9; 1Mo 27,3; Hi 1,1; Hi 1,8; Hi 2,3)28Und Isaak hatte den Esau lieb, weil ihm das Wildbret mundete; Rebekka aber hatte den Jakob lieb. (1Mo 27,2; 1Mo 27,5; 1Mo 27,46)29Und Jakob kochte ein Gericht. Da kam Esau vom Feld und war erschöpft. (Ri 8,4; 1Sam 14,28; 1Sam 14,31; 1Sam 30,10; 1Sam 30,23; Jes 40,30)30Und Esau sprach zu Jakob: Lass mich von dem roten [Gericht] da hinunterschlingen, denn ich bin erschöpft! Ishmael’s sons
12This is the account of the family line of Abraham’s son Ishmael, whom Sarah’s slave, Hagar the Egyptian, bore to Abraham.13These are the names of the sons of Ishmael, listed in the order of their birth: Nebaioth the firstborn of Ishmael, Kedar, Adbeel, Mibsam,14Mishma, Dumah, Massa,15Hadad, Tema, Jetur, Naphish and Kedemah.16These were the sons of Ishmael, and these are the names of the twelve tribal rulers according to their settlements and camps.17Ishmael lived a hundred and thirty-seven years. He breathed his last and died, and he was gathered to his people.18His descendants settled in the area from Havilah to Shur, near the eastern border of Egypt, as you go towards Ashur. And they lived in hostility towards[2] all the tribes related to them.
Jacob and Esau
19This is the account of the family line of Abraham’s son Isaac. Abraham became the father of Isaac,20and Isaac was forty years old when he married Rebekah daughter of Bethuel the Aramean from Paddan Aram[3] and sister of Laban the Aramean.21Isaac prayed to the Lord on behalf of his wife, because she was childless. The Lord answered his prayer, and his wife Rebekah became pregnant.22The babies jostled each other within her, and she said, ‘Why is this happening to me?’ So she went to enquire of the Lord.23The Lord said to her, ‘Two nations are in your womb, and two peoples from within you will be separated; one people will be stronger than the other, and the elder will serve the younger.’24When the time came for her to give birth, there were twin boys in her womb.25The first to come out was red, and his whole body was like a hairy garment; so they named him Esau.[4]26After this, his brother came out, with his hand grasping Esau’s heel; so he was named Jacob.[5] Isaac was sixty years old when Rebekah gave birth to them.27The boys grew up, and Esau became a skilful hunter, a man of the open country, while Jacob was content to stay at home among the tents.28Isaac, who had a taste for wild game, loved Esau, but Rebekah loved Jacob.29Once when Jacob was cooking some stew, Esau came in from the open country, famished.30He said to Jacob, ‘Quick, let me have some of that red stew! I’m famished!’ (That is why he was also called Edom.[6])31Jacob replied, ‘First sell me your birthright.’32‘Look, I am about to die,’ Esau said. ‘What good is the birthright to me?’33But Jacob said, ‘Swear to me first.’ So he swore an oath to him, selling his birthright to Jacob.34Then Jacob gave Esau some bread and some lentil stew.
