Davids Großmut gegenüber Jonatans Sohn Mefi-Boschet

1 ´Eines Tages` fragte sich David: »Ist wohl noch jemand von Sauls Familie am Leben? Ich möchte ihm Gutes tun, wie ich es Jonatan versprochen habe^[1].« (1Sam 20,14) 2 An Sauls Königshof hatte es einen Gefolgsmann gegeben, ´der eine einflussreiche Stellung gehabt hatte`; er hieß Ziba. Er wurde zu David gerufen, und der König fragte ihn: »Bist du Ziba?« »Ja, mein Herr«, sagte Ziba. 3 Der König fragte weiter: »Ist aus Sauls Familie noch jemand am Leben? Ich möchte ihm Gutes erweisen, damit er durch mich Gottes Güte erfährt.^[2]« Ziba antwortete: »Ein Sohn Jonatans lebt noch. Er ist an beiden Beinen gelähmt.« 4 »Wo ist er?«, fragte der König. »Er lebt in Lo-Dabar«, erwiderte Ziba, »im Haus von Machir, dem Sohn Ammiëls.« 5 Da ließ David ihn aus Machirs Haus ´an den Königshof` holen. 6 Als Mefi-Boschet, der Sohn Jonatans und Enkel Sauls, vor David trat, fiel er vor ihm nieder und berührte mit der Stirn den Boden, um dem König Ehre zu erweisen. »Du also bist Mefi-Boschet«, sagte David, und er antwortete: »Ja, ich bin dein ergebener Diener.« 7 David ermutigte ihn: »Hab keine Angst. Ich will dir Gutes tun, wie ich es deinem Vater Jonatan versprochen habe. Ich werde dir alle Ländereien zurückgeben, die deinem Großvater Saul gehört haben. Außerdem darfst du von nun an immer an meinem Tisch essen.« 8 Mefi-Boschet warf sich erneut vor dem König nieder und sagte: »Ich bin es nicht wert, dass du mir deine Güte zuwendest. Ich bin doch ´nicht mehr als` ein toter Hund!« 9 König David aber rief Ziba, den ´ehemaligen` Gefolgsmann Sauls, wieder zu sich und bestimmte: »Alles, was Saul und seiner Familie gehört hat, gebe ich Mefi-Boschet, dem Enkel deines ´früheren` Herrn. 10 Du sollst zusammen mit deinen Söhnen und Knechten für ihn die Felder bestellen und die Ernte einbringen, damit er von dem Ertrag leben kann. Mefi-Boschet selbst aber, der Enkel deines Herrn, wird täglich an meinem Tisch essen.« Ziba, der fünfzehn Söhne und zwanzig Knechte hatte, 11 antwortete dem König: »Dein Diener wird alles tun, was mein Herr und König befohlen hat.« ´Von da an` aß Mefi-Boschet an Davids Tafel wie einer der Königssöhne.^[3] 12 Er hatte auch noch einen kleinen Sohn namens Micha. Alle, die zum Haushalt Zibas gehörten, wurden Mefi-Boschets Diener. 13 Mefi-Boschet, der an beiden Beinen gelähmt war, wohnte in Jerusalem, denn er speiste täglich an der Tafel des Königs.

1 David asked, ‘Is anyone left from the royal house of Saul? If there is, I want to be kind to him because of Jonathan.’ 2 Ziba was a servant in Saul’s family. David sent for him to come and see him. The king said to him, ‘Are you Ziba?’ ‘I’m ready to serve you,’ he replied. 3 The king asked, ‘Isn’t there anyone still alive from the royal house of Saul? God has been very kind to me. I would like to be kind to that person in the same way.’ Ziba answered the king, ‘A son of Jonathan is still living. Both of his feet were hurt so that he can’t walk.’ 4 ‘Where is he?’ the king asked. Ziba answered, ‘He’s in the town of Lo Debar. He’s staying at the house of Makir, the son of Ammiel.’ 5 So King David brought Mephibosheth from Makir’s house in Lo Debar. 6 Mephibosheth came to David. He was the son of Jonathan, the son of Saul. Mephibosheth bowed down to David to show him respect. David said, ‘Mephibosheth!’ ‘I’m ready to serve you,’ he replied. 7 ‘Don’t be afraid,’ David told him. ‘You can be sure that I will be kind to you because of your father Jonathan. I’ll give back to you all the land that belonged to your grandfather Saul. And I’ll always provide what you need.’ 8 Mephibosheth bowed down to David. He said, ‘Who am I? Why should you pay attention to me? I’m nothing but a dead dog.’ 9 Then the king sent for Saul’s servant Ziba. He said to him, ‘I’m giving your master’s grandson everything that belonged to Saul and his family. 10 You and your sons and your servants must farm the land for him. You must bring in the crops. Then he’ll be taken care of. I’ll always provide what he needs.’ Ziba had 15 sons and 20 servants. 11 Then Ziba said to the king, ‘I’ll do anything you command me to do. You are my king and master.’ So David provided what Mephibosheth needed. He treated him like one of the king’s sons. 12 Mephibosheth had a young son named Mika. All the members of Ziba’s family became servants of Mephibosheth. 13 Mephibosheth lived in Jerusalem. The king always provided what he needed. Both of his feet were hurt so that he could not walk.
