Samuels Abschiedsrede

1 Samuel wandte sich an die versammelten Israeliten: »Ihr wisst: Ich habe getan, was ihr von mir verlangt habt, und einen König über euch eingesetzt. 2 Hier ist er, von nun an wird dieser König euch führen. Ich aber bin alt und grau geworden, und meine ´erwachsenen` Söhne sind unter euch. Von meiner Jugend an bis zum heutigen Tag habe ich euch geführt. 3 Und nun stehe ich hier vor euch. Wenn ihr etwas gegen mich vorzubringen habt, dann sprecht es aus in der Gegenwart des HERRN und seines gesalbten ´Königs`! Gibt es jemand, dem ich ein Rind oder einen Esel weggenommen habe? Habe ich jemand ausgebeutet? Habe ich jemand erpresst? Habe ich jemals Bestechungsgelder angenommen und dann ´als Richter` meine Augen vor einem Unrecht verschlossen? Ich bin bereit, für alles Wiedergutmachung zu leisten.« 4 Doch sie entgegneten: »Du hast keinen von uns ausgebeutet oder erpresst. Von niemand hast du etwas angenommen.« 5 Darauf sagte Samuel: »Der HERR und sein gesalbter ´König` sind heute meine Zeugen, dass ihr nichts gegen mich vorbringen könnt^[1].« »Ja, so ist es«, stimmten sie zu. 6 Weiter sagte Samuel zum Volk: »Der HERR selbst hat Mose und Aaron eingesetzt und eure Vorfahren ´durch sie` aus dem Land Ägypten herausgeführt. 7 Tretet nun heran, damit ich euch vor dem HERRN ins Gewissen reden kann. Ich werde euch an alles erinnern, was der HERR in seiner Treue für euch und eure Vorfahren getan hat^[2]. 8 Als Jakob ´mit seiner Familie` nach Ägypten kam, ´wurden sie dort unterdrückt`. Eure Vorfahren schrien zum HERRN um Hilfe, und er schickte ihnen Mose und Aaron. Die beiden führten eure Vorfahren aus Ägypten und brachten sie in dieses Land. 9 Aber eure Vorfahren vergaßen den HERRN, ihren Gott. Deshalb gab er sie ´ihren Feinden` preis: Sisera, dem Heerführer ´der Stadt` Hazor, den Philistern und dem König der Moabiter. Die führten Krieg gegen sie. 10 Da riefen sie zum HERRN um Hilfe und bekannten: ›Wir haben Schuld auf uns geladen, denn wir haben ´dich`, den HERRN, verlassen und ´den Gott` Baal und ´die Göttin` Astarte verehrt! Rette uns doch aus der Gewalt unserer Feinde, dann wollen wir dir ´allein` dienen!‹ 11 Da schickte der HERR euch ´die Richter` Jerubaal^[3], Bedan^[4], Jiftach und ´schließlich mich`, Samuel. ´Durch sie alle` befreite er euch aus der Gewalt eurer Feinde ringsum, sodass ihr ´nun` ruhig und sicher ´hier` wohnen könnt. (Ri 4,6; Ri 6,32) 12 Als ihr jedoch saht, dass der Ammoniterkönig Nahasch gegen euch in den Krieg zog, ´kamt ihr zu mir und` sagtet: »Wir wollen lieber einen König haben!« - obwohl doch der HERR, euer Gott, euer König ist. 13 Nun gut, hier ist der König, den ihr euch gewünscht und ausgewählt habt. Der HERR hat ihn über euch eingesetzt. 14 So habt nun Ehrfurcht vor dem HERRN, dient ihm, hört auf ihn und widersetzt euch nicht seinen Weisungen. Wenn ihr und euer König dem HERRN, eurem Gott, nachfolgt, ´dann wird er auf eurer Seite sein`. 15 Wenn ihr aber nicht auf den HERRN hört und euch seinem Befehl widersetzt, wird er seine Hand gegen euch erheben wie gegen eure Vorfahren. 16 Tretet also heran und seht, was für eine große Tat der HERR vor euren Augen vollbringen wird! 17 Es ist doch gerade Weizenernte, ´und ihr wisst, dass in dieser Zeit kein Regen fällt`. Ich werde zum HERRN rufen, dass er ein Gewitter mit Regen schickt. Dann werdet ihr erkennen und verstehen, dass ihr in den Augen des HERRN ein großes Unrecht begangen habt, als ihr einen König verlangtet.« 18 Samuel rief zum HERRN, und der HERR ließ es an diesem Tag donnern und regnen. Das ganze Volk bekam große Angst vor dem HERRN und vor Samuel. 19 »Bitte den HERRN, deinen Gott, für uns^[5], dass wir nicht sterben!«, flehten sie Samuel an. »Wir haben schon so viel Schuld auf uns geladen, und nun haben wir auch noch das Unrecht begangen, einen König für uns zu fordern!« 20 Samuel entgegnete: »Habt keine Angst! Ihr habt zwar ein Unrecht begangen. Doch seid von jetzt an dem HERRN treu^[6] und dient ihm von ganzem Herzen! 21 Wendet euch nicht wieder den ohnmächtigen Götzen^[7] zu! Sie helfen nicht und können nicht retten, weil sie ein Nichts sind. 22 Der HERR wird sein Volk nicht verstoßen – dafür steht er mit seinem großen Namen. Denn dem HERRN hat es gefallen, gerade euch zu seinem Volk zu machen. 23 Und was mich betrifft, so werde ich auf keinen Fall aufhören, für euch zu beten. Sonst würde ich Schuld auf mich laden^[8]. Ich will euch ´auch weiterhin` den guten und richtigen Weg weisen. 24 Habt Ehrfurcht vor dem HERRN und dient ihm treu von ganzem Herzen. Erinnert euch, welch große Taten er für euch vollbracht hat. 25 Wenn ihr aber weiter Unrecht tut, werdet ihr mitsamt eurem König weggerafft.«

1 And Samuel said unto all Israel, Behold, I have hearkened unto your voice in all that ye said unto me, and have made a king over you. 2 And now, behold, the king walketh before you: and I am old and grayheaded; and, behold, my sons are with you: and I have walked before you from my childhood unto this day. 3 Behold, here I am : witness against me before the LORD, and before his anointed: whose ox have I taken? or whose ass have I taken? or whom have I defrauded? whom have I oppressed? or of whose hand have I received any bribe to blind mine eyes therewith? and I will restore it you. 4 And they said, Thou hast not defrauded us, nor oppressed us, neither hast thou taken ought of any man' hand. 5 And he said unto them, The LORD is witness against you, and his anointed is witness this day, that ye have not found ought in my hand. And they answered, He is witness. 6 And Samuel said unto the people, It is the LORD that advanced Moses and Aaron, and that brought your fathers up out of the land of Egypt. 7 Now therefore stand still, that I may reason with you before the LORD of all the righteous acts of the LORD, which he did to you and to your fathers. 8 When Jacob was come into Egypt, and your fathers cried unto the LORD, then the LORD sent Moses and Aaron, which brought forth your fathers out of Egypt, and made them dwell in this place. 9 And when they forgat the LORD their God, he sold them into the hand of Sisera, captain of the host of Hazor, and into the hand of the Philistines, and into the hand of the king of Moab, and they fought against them. 10 And they cried unto the LORD, and said, We have sinned, because we have forsaken the LORD, and have served Baalim and Ashtaroth: but now deliver us out of the hand of our enemies, and we will serve thee. 11 And the LORD sent Jerubbaal, and Bedan, and Jephthah, and Samuel, and delivered you out of the hand of your enemies on every side, and ye dwelled safe. 12 And when ye saw that Nahash the king of the children of Ammon came against you, ye said unto me, Nay; but a king shall reign over us: when the LORD your God was your king. 13 Now therefore behold the king whom ye have chosen, and whom ye have desired! and, behold, the LORD hath set a king over you. 14 If ye will fear the LORD, and serve him, and obey his voice, and not rebel against the commandment of the LORD, then shall both ye and also the king that reigneth over you continue following the LORD your God: 15 But if ye will not obey the voice of the LORD, but rebel against the commandment of the LORD, then shall the hand of the LORD be against you, as it was against your fathers. 16 Now therefore stand and see this great thing, which the LORD will do before your eyes. 17 Is it not wheat harvest to day? I will call unto the LORD, and he shall send thunder and rain; that ye may perceive and see that your wickedness is great, which ye have done in the sight of the LORD, in asking you a king. 18 So Samuel called unto the LORD; and the LORD sent thunder and rain that day: and all the people greatly feared the LORD and Samuel. 19 And all the people said unto Samuel, Pray for thy servants unto the LORD thy God, that we die not: for we have added unto all our sins this evil, to ask us a king. 20 And Samuel said unto the people, Fear not: ye have done all this wickedness: yet turn not aside from following the LORD, but serve the LORD with all your heart; 21 And turn ye not aside: for then should ye go after vain things , which cannot profit nor deliver; for they are vain. 22 For the LORD will not forsake his people for his great name' sake: because it hath pleased the LORD to make you his people. 23 Moreover as for me, God forbid that I should sin against the LORD in ceasing to pray for you: but I will teach you the good and the right way: 24 Only fear the LORD, and serve him in truth with all your heart: for consider how great things he hath done for you. 25 But if ye shall still do wickedly, ye shall be consumed, both ye and your king.
