1Der HERR sagte zu Mose: »Steig zu mir ´auf den Berg`, zusammen mit Aaron, ´seinen Söhnen` Nadab und Abihu sowie siebzig der führenden Männer Israels. Werft euch in gebührender Entfernung vor mir nieder.2Nur du allein darfst in meine Nähe kommen. Die andereren dürfen sich mir nicht nähern. Das Volk darf gar nicht erst mit ´auf den Berg` steigen.«3Mose trat vor das Volk und gab ihnen alle Gebote und Rechtsbestimmungen des HERRN weiter. Das ganze Volk antwortete einmütig: »Wir wollen alle Gebote halten, die der HERR uns gegeben hat.«4Da schrieb Mose alle Worte des HERRN ´auf eine Schriftrolle`. Am ´nächsten` Morgen stand er früh auf und errichtete am Fuß des Berges einen Altar. Außerdem stellte er zwölf Gedenksteine auf, für jeden Stamm Israels einen.5Er beauftragte einige junge Männer aus dem Volk damit, Brandopfer darzubringen und dem HERRN junge Stiere als Gemeinschaftsopfer zu schlachten.6Mose nahm die Hälfte des Blutes und füllte es in die ´dafür vorgesehenen` Opferschalen. Mit der anderen Hälfte besprengte er den Altar.7Danach nahm er die Schriftrolle mit den Bundesgesetzen und las sie den versammelten Israeliten vor. Sie antworteten: »Wir wollen alles tun, was der HERR uns befohlen hat. Wir werden ´ihm` gehorchen!«8Darauf sprengte Mose das Blut ´aus den Opferschalen` über das Volk. Dazu sagte er: »Dieses Blut besiegelt den Bund, den der HERR auf der Grundlage seiner Gebote mit euch schließt.«9Anschließend stiegen Mose und Aaron mit Nadab und Abihu sowie siebzig der führenden Männer Israels ´auf den Berg`.10Dort sahen sie den Gott Israels: ´Der Boden` unter seinen Füßen ´sah aus`, als wäre er mit Saphiren ausgelegt, ´und leuchtete` strahlend ´blau` wie der Himmel.11Die führenden Männer des Volkes durften Gott sehen, ohne dass er seine Hand gegen sie ausstreckte, ´um sie zu töten`. Sie aßen und tranken ´in seiner Gegenwart`.
Gott ruft Mose auf den Berg
12Der HERR sagte zu Mose: »Steig zu mir auf den Berg und bleib ´eine Zeit lang` hier. Ich will dir ´zwei` Steintafeln geben, auf die ich meine Weisungen und Gebote geschrieben habe, damit du das Volk lehren kannst.«13Zusammen mit seinem Diener Josua machte Mose sich auf den Weg und stieg den Berg Gottes hinauf.14Zuvor hatte er die führenden Männer angewiesen: »Wartet hier, bis wir wieder zu euch zurückkehren! Aaron und Hur bleiben bei euch. Wenn jemand einen Streitfall hat, soll er sich an die beiden wenden.«15Als Mose den Berg hinaufstieg, hüllte die ´göttliche` Wolke den Berg ´gipfel` ein,16und die Herrlichkeit des HERRN ließ sich auf dem Berg nieder. Sechs Tage lang verhüllte die Wolke den Berg Sinai. Am siebten Tag rief der HERR aus der Wolke heraus Mose zu sich.17Für die Israeliten sah die Herrlichkeit des HERRN aus wie ein Feuer, das auf dem Berggipfel loderte.18Mose ging mitten in die Wolke hinein und stieg auf den Gipfel. Dort blieb er vierzig Tage und vierzig Nächte lang.

He rose early in the morning and built an altar at the foot of the mountain, and twelve pillars, according to the twelve tribes of Israel. (1Mo 28,18; 1Mo 31,45; 2Mo 23,24; 5Mo 31,9)5And he sent young men of the people of Israel, who offered burnt offerings and sacrificed peace offerings of oxen to the Lord.6And Moses took half of the blood and put it in basins, and half of the blood he threw against the altar. (Hebr 9,18)7Then he took the Book of the Covenant and read it in the hearing of the people. And they said, “All that the Lord has spoken we will do, and we will be obedient.” (2Mo 24,3)8And Moses took the blood and threw it on the people and said, “Behold the blood of the covenant that the Lord has made with you in accordance with all these words.” (Hebr 9,19; Hebr 13,20; 1Petr 1,2)9Then Moses and Aaron, Nadab, and Abihu, and seventy of the elders of Israel went up, (2Mo 24,1; 4Mo 11,16)10and they saw the God of Israel. There was under his feet as it were a pavement of sapphire stone, like the very heaven for clearness. (1Mo 31,54; 2Mo 18,12)12The Lord said to Moses, “Come up to me on the mountain and wait there, that I may give you the tablets of stone, with the law and the commandment, which I have written for their instruction.” (2Mo 24,2; 2Mo 24,15; 2Mo 24,18; 2Mo 31,18; 2Mo 32,15; 5Mo 5,22)13So Moses rose with his assistant Joshua, and Moses went up into the mountain of God. (2Mo 3,1; 2Mo 17,9; 2Mo 33,11)14And he said to the elders, “Wait here for us until we return to you. And behold, Aaron and Hur are with you. Whoever has a dispute, let him go to them.” (2Mo 17,10; 2Mo 17,12; 2Mo 31,2)15Then Moses went up on the mountain, and the cloud covered the mountain. (2Mo 19,9; 2Mo 19,16; Mt 17,5)16The glory of the Lord dwelt on Mount Sinai, and the cloud covered it six days. And on the seventh day he called to Moses out of the midst of the cloud. (2Mo 16,10; 3Mo 9,23; 4Mo 14,10; 4Mo 16,42)17Now the appearance of the glory of the Lord was like a devouring fire on the top of the mountain in the sight of the people of Israel. (2Mo 3,2; 2Mo 19,18; 5Mo 4,36; Hebr 12,18; Hebr 12,29)18Moses entered the cloud and went up on the mountain. And Moses was on the mountain forty days and forty nights.
