1Ahora escuchen, ustedes los ricos: ¡Lloren y griten por todas las desgracias que van a sufrir!2Sus riquezas están podridas y sus ropas están comidas por la polilla.3Su oro y su plata están oxidados. Y ese óxido será un testigo contra ustedes y les consumirá el cuerpo como un fuego. Han estado juntando riquezas a pesar de que estos son los últimos tiempos.4Ustedes no pagaron el salario a los obreros que les trabajaron sus campos, y ese hecho grita contra ustedes. El grito de protesta de esos trabajadores lo ha escuchado el Señor Todopoderoso.5Ustedes han vivido en este mundo con gran lujo y placer desenfrenado. Lo que han hecho es engordar para el día de la matanza.6Han acusado y matado al inocente sin que él pudiera defenderse.
Paciencia en los sufrimientos
7Por eso, hermanos, tengan paciencia hasta que el Señor venga. Sean como el agricultor que espera a que la tierra dé su precioso fruto y aguarda con paciencia las temporadas de lluvia.8Así también ustedes, manténganse firmes y esperen con paciencia la venida del Señor, que ya está cerca.9Hermanos, no se quejen unos de otros, para que no sean juzgados, pues el juez ya está a la puerta.10Hermanos, tomen como ejemplo a los profetas que hablaron en nombre del Señor. Ellos sufrieron y fueron pacientes.11En verdad, consideramos dichosos a los que se mantuvieron firmes. Ustedes han oído hablar de cómo Job se mantuvo firme y han visto lo que al final le dio el Señor. Es que el Señor es muy compasivo y misericordioso.12Sobre todo, hermanos míos, no juren ni por el cielo ni por la tierra ni por ninguna otra cosa. Cuando digan«sí», que sea sí; y cuando digan«no», que sea no. De esta manera no serán condenados.
La oración de fe
13Si alguno de ustedes está angustiado, que ore. Si alguno está alegre, que cante alabanzas.14Si alguno está enfermo, que llame a los ancianos de la iglesia para que oren por él y lo unjan con aceite en el nombre del Señor.15La oración que hagan con fe sanará al enfermo y el Señor lo levantará. Y si ha pecado, él lo perdonará.16Por eso, confiésense unos a otros sus pecados, y oren unos por otros para que sean sanados. La oración del justo es poderosa y eficaz.17Elías era un hombre con debilidades como nosotros, pero oró con fervor para que no lloviera, y no llovió sobre la tierra durante tres años y medio.18Después, volvió a orar, y el cielo dio su lluvia y la tierra dio sus cosechas.19Hermanos, si alguno de ustedes se aleja de la verdad, y otro lo hace volver a ella,20recuerden que quien hace volver a un pecador a la verdad, lo salvará de la muerte y hace que se le perdonen muchísimos pecados.

(Mt 6:19; Lc 12:21; Ro 2:5; Stg 5:8)4Behold, the wages of the laborers who mowed your fields, which you kept back by fraud, are crying out against you, and the cries of the harvesters have reached the ears of the Lord of hosts. (Lv 19:13; Dt 24:15; Job 24:10; Ro 9:29)5You have lived on the earth in luxury and in self-indulgence. You have fattened your hearts in a day of slaughter. (Job 21:13; Jer 12:3; Lc 16:19; 1 Ti 5:6; 2 P 2:13)6You have condemned and murdered the righteous person. He does not resist you. (Hch 3:14; Stg 4:2)
Patience in Suffering
7Be patient, therefore, brothers,[1] until the coming of the Lord. See how the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth, being patient about it, until it receives the early and the late rains. (Dt 11:14)8You also, be patient. Establish your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is at hand. (Ro 13:11; Flp 4:5; 1 Ts 3:13; Heb 10:25; Heb 10:37; 1 P 4:7)9Do not grumble against one another, brothers, so that you may not be judged; behold, the Judge is standing at the door. (Mt 7:1; Mt 24:33; Mr 13:29; 1 Co 4:5; 1 P 4:5; Ap 22:12)10As an example of suffering and patience, brothers, take the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord. (Mt 5:12; Mt 23:34; Hch 7:52; Heb 11:32)11Behold, we consider those blessed who remained steadfast. You have heard of the steadfastness of Job, and you have seen the purpose of the Lord, how the Lord is compassionate and merciful. (Ex 34:6; Job 1:21; Job 2:10; Job 42:10; Job 42:12)12But above all, my brothers, do not swear, either by heaven or by earth or by any other oath, but let your “yes” be yes and your “no” be no, so that you may not fall under condemnation. (Mt 5:34)
The Prayer of Faith
13Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing praise. (Col 3:16)14Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. (Mr 6:13; Mr 16:18)15And the prayer of faith will save the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven. (Is 33:24; Mt 9:2; Mr 2:5; Lc 5:20)16Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.[2] (Gn 18:23; Gn 20:17; Nm 11:2; 1 R 13:6; 1 R 17:22; 2 R 4:33; 2 R 19:15; 2 R 20:2; Job 42:8; Pr 15:29; Hch 19:18; Heb 12:13)17Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed fervently that it might not rain, and for three years and six months it did not rain on the earth. (1 R 17:1; 1 R 18:1; Lc 4:25; Hch 14:15)18Then he prayed again, and heaven gave rain, and the earth bore its fruit. (1 R 18:42; 1 R 18:45)19My brothers, if anyone among you wanders from the truth and someone brings him back, (Sal 51:13; Dn 12:3; Mal 2:6; Mt 18:15; Lc 1:16; Gl 6:1)20let him know that whoever brings back a sinner from his wandering will save his soul from death and will cover a multitude of sins. (Neh 4:5; Sal 32:1; Sal 85:2; Pr 10:12; Ro 11:14; 1 P 4:8)
