1 ¡Pueblo mío, oye mis enseñanzas! Abre tus oídos a lo que digo. 

2 Porque te hablaré en parábolas; te enseñaré lecciones escondidas en nuestro pasado; 

3 cosas que hemos oído y conocido, cosas que nuestros padres nos han contado. 

4 No esconderemos estas verdades a nuestros hijos; diremos a la generación venidera de las gloriosas obras del SEÑOR, de su poder y de sus grandes milagros. 

5 Porque él dio sus mandatos a Jacob y a Israel sus leyes, y ordenó a nuestros padres que las enseñaran a sus hijos, 

6 para que estos a su vez las enseñaran a sus hijos, aun a los que estaban por nacer. De este modo, sus leyes se transmiten de generación en generación. 

7 Así, cada generación ha podido obedecer sus leyes y poner nuevamente su esperanza en Dios y no olvidarse de sus gloriosos milagros. 

8 No tenían que ser como sus padres: tercos, rebeldes, infieles, que no quieren entregarle a Dios su corazón. 

9 Los guerreros de Efraín, aunque bien armados, volvieron las espaldas y huyeron al llegar el día de la batalla, 

10 porque no cumplieron el pacto con Dios y no obedecían sus leyes. 

11 Se olvidaron de lo que él había hecho, los admirables milagros que él les había mostrado, 

12 de los milagros que hizo a la vista de sus padres en la tierra de Egipto, en la región de Zoán. 

13 Porque él abrió el mar ante ellos, y los guio a través del mismo. ¡Como muros a ambos lados de ellos se detuvieron las aguas! 

14 Durante el día los guio mediante una nube, y durante la noche mediante una columna de fuego. 

15 En el desierto abrió las rocas para suministrarles agua en abundancia, como si brotaran de una fuente. 

16 ¡De la roca manaron corrientes que fluyeron como un río! 

17 Pero ellos siguieron en su rebeldía, pecando contra el Altísimo en el desierto. 

18 Con toda intención pusieron a Dios a prueba, exigiéndole comida a su antojo. 

19 Murmuraron contra Dios diciendo: «Dios no puede darnos comida en el desierto, 

20 sin embargo cuando golpeó la roca, el agua brotó como ríos, pero no puede darle a su pueblo pan y carne». 

21 Cuando el SEÑOR oyó esto, se puso muy furioso y su enojo se encendió contra Jacob, su ira ardió contra Israel. 

22 Porque no creían en Dios ni confiaban en que él cuidaría de ellos. 

23 Desde lo alto dio una orden a la nubes, y se abrieron las puertas de los cielos. 

24 Hizo llover maná para que se alimentaran. ¡Les dio pan del cielo! 

25 ¡Alimento de ángeles comieron! Les dio hasta que se saciaran. 

26 Y él llevó el viento oriental y al viento del sur guio con su gran poder. 

27 Hizo llover aves abundantes como polvo; nubes de aves como la arena de la playa. 

28 Hizo que las aves cayeran en medio de las tiendas. 

29 El pueblo comió hasta hartarse. Les dio lo que pedían. 

30 Mas apenas habían terminado de comer, aún tenían la carne en la boca, 

31 cuando se alzó contra ellos la ira del SEÑOR, y mató a los hombres más fuertes, a los mejores de entre los jóvenes de Israel. 

32 Pero aun así el pueblo continuó pecando y rehusó creer en los milagros. 

33 Entonces él les acortó la vida y les dio años de terror. 

34 Si Dios los castigaba, entonces lo buscaban, se arrepentían y volvían a Dios. 

35 Entonces, recordaron que Dios era su roca; que su redentor era el Dios Altísimo. 

36 Pero sólo de boca lo seguían; le mentían con la lengua; 

37 lejos andaba su corazón. No cumplían con su pacto. 

38 Pero él fue misericordioso; les perdonaba sus pecados y no los destruía. Una y otra vez contuvo su ira. 

39 Porque se acordaba que eran simples mortales, que en un momento se desvanecen como un soplo del viento y nunca regresan. 

40 ¡Cuántas veces se rebelaron contra él en aquellos años del desierto y le entristecieron el corazón! 

41 Una y otra vez pusieron a prueba la paciencia de Dios, y provocaron al Santo de Israel. 

42 Se olvidaron de su poder, y de cómo los había librado de sus enemigos; 

43 olvidaron sus señales milagrosas en Egipto, sus maravillas en la región de Zoán. 

44 Cómo volvió sangre sus ríos y nadie podía beber de sus aguas, 

45 y cómo envió enormes nubes de moscas que cubrieron la tierra, y cómo las ranas llenaron todo Egipto. 

46 Entregó a los gusanos sus cultivos. Las langostas consumieron sus cosechas. 

47 Mediante granizo les destruyó las viñas y sicómoros. 

48 Entregó su ganado al granizo y sus rebaños a los rayos. 

49 Sobre ellos desató el furor de su ira, derramando dolor y enemistad. Contra ellos mandó un ejército de ángeles destructores. 

50 Dio rienda suelta a su ira y no libró la vida de las egipcios, sino que los entregó a plagas. 

51 Luego mató al hijo mayor de cada familia egipcia: a cada retoño a lo largo de toda la tierra de Egipto. 

52 Pero a su pueblo lo guio como a un rebaño; seguro por el desierto. 

53 A salvo los guardó para que no temieran. Pero el mar se precipitó sobre los enemigos de ellos y se los tragó. 

54 Él los llevó a la frontera de su tierra santa, a esta tierra de colinas que para ellos él conquistó. 

55 Echó a las naciones que ocupaban la tierra, y a cada tribu de Israel le dio una porción de tierra como herencia. 

56 Pero aunque hizo todo esto por ellos, continuaron poniendo a prueba la paciencia de Dios; rebelándose contra el Dios Altísimo y negándose a cumplir sus mandatos. 

57 Fueron desleales y traidores, como sus padres; ¡tan falsos como un arco defectuoso! 

58 Lo hicieron enojar construyendo altares a otros dioses; con sus ídolos despertaron sus celos. 

59 Al ver esto, grande fue la ira de Dios, y él rechazó completamente al pueblo de Israel. 

60 Entonces abandonó su tabernáculo que estaba en Siló, en donde había morado entre los hombres, 

61 y permitió que el símbolo de su poder y gloria cayera cautivo en manos enemigas. 

62 Tan furioso estaba contra su propio pueblo, que dejó que los mataran a filo de espada. 

63 Sus jóvenes murieron a fuego, y sus doncellas perecieron sin haber alcanzado la edad de cantar sus cánticos nupciales. 

64 Sus sacerdotes fueron asesinados y sus viudas murieron sin que pudieran siquiera comenzar su lamento. 

65 Entonces se alzó el SEÑOR como si hubiera estado durmiendo, como hombre poderoso que se despierta de un sueño causado por el vino; 

66 y derrotó a sus enemigos, y los rechazó, y los envió a eterna vergüenza. 

67 Desechó a la familia de José, no escogió a la tribu de Efraín, 

68 y eligió a la tribu de Judá, y al monte Sion, que él amaba. 

69 Allí edificó su imponente santuario, tan sólido y duradero como la tierra misma. 

70 Escogió a su siervo David, y lo llamó de los apriscos de las ovejas; 

71 y lo quitó de andar arriando los rebaños para que fuera el pastor de los descendientes de Jacob, pastor de Israel el pueblo de Dios; 

72 y él los cuidó con sincero corazón y mano diestra.

Tell the Coming Generation

1 A Maskil of Asaph. Give ear, O my people, to my teaching; incline your ears to the words of my mouth! (Sal 49:1; Sal 50:1; Sal 50:7; Is 51:4) 

2 I will open my mouth in a parable; I will utter dark sayings from of old, (Nm 21:27; Sal 49:4; Mt 13:35) 

3 things that we have heard and known, that our fathers have told us. (Sal 44:1) 

4 We will not hide them from their children, but tell to the coming generation the glorious deeds of the Lord, and his might, and the wonders that he has done. (Ex 12:26; Ex 13:8; Ex 13:14; Dt 11:19; Jos 4:6; Job 15:18; Sal 78:11; Sal 78:32; Jl 1:3) 

5 He established a testimony in Jacob and appointed a law in Israel, which he commanded our fathers to teach to their children, (Sal 19:7; Sal 81:5; Sal 147:19) 

6 that the next generation might know them, the children yet unborn, and arise and tell them to their children, (Sal 78:4; Sal 102:18) 

7 so that they should set their hope in God and not forget the works of God, but keep his commandments; (Sal 77:12; Sal 105:45) 

8 and that they should not be like their fathers, a stubborn and rebellious generation, a generation whose heart was not steadfast, whose spirit was not faithful to God. (Ex 32:9; Ex 33:3; Dt 9:7; Dt 9:24; Dt 31:27; 2 R 17:14; 2 Cr 30:7; Job 11:13; Sal 78:37; Jer 5:23; Ez 20:18) 

9 The Ephraimites, armed with the bow, turned back on the day of battle. (Sal 78:57) 

10 They did not keep God’s covenant, but refused to walk according to his law. (2 R 17:15) 

11 They forgot his works and the wonders that he had shown them. (Sal 78:4; Sal 106:13) 

12 In the sight of their fathers he performed wonders in the land of Egypt, in the fields of Zoan. (Nm 13:22; Sal 72:18; Sal 78:43; Is 19:11; Is 19:13; Ez 30:14) 

13 He divided the sea and let them pass through it, and made the waters stand like a heap. (Ex 14:21; Ex 15:8; Sal 136:13) 

14 In the daytime he led them with a cloud, and all the night with a fiery light. (Sal 105:39) 

15 He split rocks in the wilderness and gave them drink abundantly as from the deep. (Ex 17:6; Sal 78:20; Sal 105:41; Sal 114:8; Is 48:21) 

16 He made streams come out of the rock and caused waters to flow down like rivers. (Nm 20:8; Nm 20:10) 

17 Yet they sinned still more against him, rebelling against the Most High in the desert. (Dt 9:22; Sal 78:40; Sal 78:56; Is 63:10) 

18 They tested God in their heart by demanding the food they craved. (Dt 6:16; Sal 78:41; Sal 78:56; Sal 95:9; Sal 106:14; 1 Co 10:9) 

19 They spoke against God, saying, “Can God spread a table in the wilderness? (Ex 16:3; Nm 11:4; Nm 20:3; Nm 21:5; Sal 23:5) 

20 He struck the rock so that water gushed out and streams overflowed. Can he also give bread or provide meat for his people?” (Sal 78:15) 

21 Therefore, when the Lord heard, he was full of wrath; a fire was kindled against Jacob; his anger rose against Israel, (Nm 11:1) 

22 because they did not believe in God and did not trust his saving power. (Sal 78:8; Sal 78:32; Sal 78:37) 

23 Yet he commanded the skies above and opened the doors of heaven, (Gn 7:11; Mal 3:10) 

24 and he rained down on them manna to eat and gave them the grain of heaven. (Ex 16:4; Sal 105:40; Jn 6:31) 

25 Man ate of the bread of the angels; he sent them food in abundance. (Sal 78:29; Sal 103:20) 

26 He caused the east wind to blow in the heavens, and by his power he led out the south wind; (Nm 11:31) 

27 he rained meat on them like dust, winged birds like the sand of the seas; (Gn 13:16; Gn 22:17) 

28 he let them fall in the midst of their camp, all around their dwellings. (Ex 16:13; Nm 11:31) 

29 And they ate and were well filled, for he gave them what they craved. (Nm 11:4; Nm 11:19; Nm 11:34) 

30 But before they had satisfied their craving, while the food was still in their mouths, (Nm 11:33; Job 20:23) 

31 the anger of God rose against them, and he killed the strongest of them and laid low the young men of Israel. (Sal 78:63; Is 10:16) 

32 In spite of all this, they still sinned; despite his wonders, they did not believe. (Nm 14:11; Sal 78:22) 

33 So he made their days vanish like a breath, and their years in terror. (Nm 14:29; Nm 14:35; Nm 26:64; Sal 39:5) 

34 When he killed them, they sought him; they repented and sought God earnestly. (Os 5:15) 

35 They remembered that God was their rock, the Most High God their redeemer. (Ex 15:13; Dt 32:4; Dt 32:15; Dt 32:31; Sal 74:2) 

36 But they flattered him with their mouths; they lied to him with their tongues. (Is 29:13; Is 57:11; Ez 33:31) 

37 Their heart was not steadfast toward him; they were not faithful to his covenant. (Sal 51:10; Sal 78:8) 

38 Yet he, being compassionate, atoned for their iniquity and did not destroy them; he restrained his anger often and did not stir up all his wrath. (Ex 34:6; Nm 14:20) 

39 He remembered that they were but flesh, a wind that passes and comes not again. (Gn 6:3; Job 7:7; Job 10:9; Sal 103:14) 

40 How often they rebelled against him in the wilderness and grieved him in the desert! (Sal 78:17; Sal 78:56; Sal 106:14; Sal 107:11; Ef 4:30) 

41 They tested God again and again and provoked the Holy One of Israel. (Sal 71:22; Sal 78:18) 

42 They did not remember his power or the day when he redeemed them from the foe, (Jue 8:34) 

43 when he performed his signs in Egypt and his marvels in the fields of Zoan. (Ex 4:21; Ex 7:3; Ex 11:9; Sal 78:12; Sal 105:27; Sal 106:22; Hch 7:36) 

44 He turned their rivers to blood, so that they could not drink of their streams. (Ex 7:17) 

45 He sent among them swarms of flies, which devoured them, and frogs, which destroyed them. (Ex 8:2; Ex 8:21) 

46 He gave their crops to the destroying locust and the fruit of their labor to the locust. (Ex 10:12) 

47 He destroyed their vines with hail and their sycamores with frost. (Ex 9:23) 

48 He gave over their cattle to the hail and their flocks to thunderbolts. (Ex 9:19) 

49 He let loose on them his burning anger, wrath, indignation, and distress, a company of destroying angels. (Ex 12:13; Ex 12:23; 2 S 24:16) 

50 He made a path for his anger; he did not spare them from death, but gave their lives over to the plague. 

51 He struck down every firstborn in Egypt, the firstfruits of their strength in the tents of Ham. (Ex 12:29; Sal 105:23; Sal 105:27; Sal 105:36; Sal 106:22; Sal 135:8; Sal 136:10) 

52 Then he led out his people like sheep and guided them in the wilderness like a flock. (Sal 77:20) 

53 He led them in safety, so that they were not afraid, but the sea overwhelmed their enemies. (Ex 14:13; Ex 14:19; Ex 14:27; Ex 15:10) 

54 And he brought them to his holy land, to the mountain which his right hand had won. (Ex 15:17; Sal 68:16; Sal 74:2; Is 11:9; Is 57:13) 

55 He drove out nations before them; he apportioned them for a possession and settled the tribes of Israel in their tents. (Jos 23:4; Sal 44:2; Sal 135:12; Sal 136:21; Hch 13:19) 

56 Yet they tested and rebelled against the Most High God and did not keep his testimonies, (Jue 2:11; Sal 78:18; Sal 78:40) 

57 but turned away and acted treacherously like their fathers; they twisted like a deceitful bow. (Sal 78:9; Os 7:16) 

58 For they provoked him to anger with their high places; they moved him to jealousy with their idols. (Lv 26:30; Nm 25:11; Dt 7:5; Dt 7:25; Dt 12:2; Dt 12:3; Dt 31:29; Dt 32:16; Dt 32:21; Jue 2:12; 1 R 11:7; 1 R 12:31; Ez 20:28) 

59 When God heard, he was full of wrath, and he utterly rejected Israel. (Dt 3:26; Sal 78:62; Sal 106:40) 

60 He forsook his dwelling at Shiloh, the tent where he dwelt among mankind, (Jos 18:1; 1 S 4:11; Jer 7:12; Jer 7:14; Jer 26:6) 

61 and delivered his power to captivity, his glory to the hand of the foe. (1 S 4:21; Sal 63:2; Sal 96:6; Sal 132:8) 

62 He gave his people over to the sword and vented his wrath on his heritage. (1 S 4:10; Sal 78:59) 

63 Fire devoured their young men, and their young women had no marriage song. (Sal 79:5; Sal 89:46; Jer 7:34) 

64 Their priests fell by the sword, and their widows made no lamentation. (1 S 4:11; Job 27:15) 

65 Then the Lord awoke as from sleep, like a strong man shouting because of wine. (Sal 35:23; Sal 73:20) 

66 And he put his adversaries to rout; he put them to everlasting shame. (Sal 40:14) 

67 He rejected the tent of Joseph; he did not choose the tribe of Ephraim, (Sal 80:1; Sal 81:5) 

68 but he chose the tribe of Judah, Mount Zion, which he loves. (Sal 87:2) 

69 He built his sanctuary like the high heavens, like the earth, which he has founded forever. 

70 He chose David his servant and took him from the sheepfolds; (1 S 16:12) 

71 from following the nursing ewes he brought him to shepherd Jacob his people, Israel his inheritance. (1 S 10:1; 2 S 5:2; 2 S 7:8; Sal 28:9) 

72 With upright heart he shepherded them and guided them with his skillful hand. (1 R 9:4; Sal 77:20; Sal 101:2)
