1Seis días después, Jesús, con Pedro, y Jacobo y Juan (que eran hermanos), subió a la cima de un elevado monte para estar a solas.2Allí Jesús se transfiguró delante de los discípulos. Su rostro se volvió brillante como el sol, y su ropa blanca como la luz.3De pronto, Moisés y Elías aparecieron y se pusieron a hablar con él.4Pedro, atónito, balbució: ―Señor, ¡qué bueno que nos pudiéramos quedar aquí! Si quieres, podemos hacer tres enramadas: una para ti, otra para Moisés y otra para Elías.5Pero mientras hablaba, una nube resplandeciente los cubrió y una voz dijo desde la nube: «Este es mi Hijo amado; en él me complazco. Obedézcanlo».6Los discípulos se postraron en tierra temblando de miedo.7Jesús se les acercó y los tocó. ―Levántense —les dijo—. No tengan miedo.8Y al levantar la mirada, encontraron a Jesús solo.9Al descender de la montaña, Jesús les ordenó que no le dijeran a nadie lo que habían visto, hasta que él se levantara de entre los muertos.10Los discípulos le preguntaron: ―¿Por qué los maestros de religión insisten en que Elías regresará antes que aparezca el Mesías?11―Ellos tienen razón —les respondió Jesús—. Elías tiene que venir a poner las cosas en orden.12Y, en efecto, ya vino, pero en vez de reconocerlo, lo trataron con la misma crueldad con que me tratarán a mí, que soy el Hijo del hombre.13Los discípulos comprendieron que se refería a Juan el Bautista.
Jesús sana a un muchacho endemoniado
14Cuando llegaron al valle, la gente los esperaba; y un hombre corrió y se puso de rodillas ante Jesús.15―Señor —dijo—, ten misericordia de mi hijo, que está enfermo de la mente y padece muchísimo. Muchas veces se cae en el fuego o en el agua, con peligro de su vida.16Lo traje a tus discípulos; pero no pudieron curarlo.17―¡Oh generación incrédula y perversa! —dijo Jesús—. ¿Hasta cuándo tendré que soportarlos? ¡Tráiganme al muchacho!18Jesús reprendió al demonio que estaba en el muchacho, y el demonio salió. Desde aquel instante el muchacho quedó bien.19Más tarde, los discípulos le preguntaron en privado a Jesús: ―¿Por qué no pudimos echar fuera aquel demonio?20―Porque tienen muy poca fe —les respondió Jesús—. Si tuvieran siquiera una fe tan pequeña como un grano de mostaza, podrían decirle a aquella montaña que se quitara de en medio y se quitaría. Nada les sería imposible.21Pero este tipo de demonio no sale a menos que uno haya orado y ayunado.22Un día, estando aún en Galilea, les dijo: «Alguien me va a traicionar y me va a entregar a los que quieren matarme,23pero al tercer día resucitaré». Los discípulos se estremecieron de tristeza y temor.
El impuesto del templo
24Al llegar a Capernaúm, los cobradores de impuestos del templo le preguntaron a Pedro: ―Tu Maestro, ¿paga impuestos?25―¡Claro que los paga! —les respondió Pedro—, e inmediatamente entró a la casa a hablarle a Jesús sobre el asunto. No había pronunciado todavía la primera palabra, cuando Jesús le preguntó: —¿A quién crees tú, Pedro, que cobran tributos los reyes de la tierra? ¿A sus súbditos o a los extranjeros?26―A los extranjeros, claro —respondió Pedro.27―Entonces, los suyos quedan exentos, ¿verdad? —añadió Jesús—. Sin embargo, para que no se ofendan, vete al lago y echa el anzuelo, pues en la boca del primer pez que saques hallarás una moneda que alcanzará para tus impuestos y los míos.

(Gn 17:3; Ez 1:28; 2 P 1:18; Ap 1:17)7But Jesus came and touched them, saying, “Rise, and have no fear.” (Dn 8:18; Dn 10:10; Dn 10:18; Mt 14:27)8And when they lifted up their eyes, they saw no one but Jesus only.9And as they were coming down the mountain, Jesus commanded them, “Tell no one the vision, until the Son of Man is raised from the dead.” (Mt 8:4; Mt 12:16; Mr 9:9)10And the disciples asked him, “Then why do the scribes say that first Elijah must come?” (Mal 4:5; Mt 11:14)11He answered, “Elijah does come, and he will restore all things. (Lc 1:16; Hch 1:6; Hch 3:21)12But I tell you that Elijah has already come, and they did not recognize him, but did to him whatever they pleased. So also the Son of Man will certainly suffer at their hands.” (Mt 14:3; Mt 14:10; Mt 16:21)13Then the disciples understood that he was speaking to them of John the Baptist. (Mt 16:12)
Jesus Heals a Boy with a Demon
14And when they came to the crowd, a man came up to him and, kneeling before him, (Mr 9:14; Lc 9:37)15said, “Lord, have mercy on my son, for he has seizures and he suffers terribly. For often he falls into the fire, and often into the water. (Mt 4:24)16And I brought him to your disciples, and they could not heal him.” (Mt 10:1; Mr 6:7; Lc 10:17)17And Jesus answered, “O faithless and twisted generation, how long am I to be with you? How long am I to bear with you? Bring him here to me.” (Jn 14:9; Jn 20:27; Flp 2:15)18And Jesus rebuked the demon,[2] and it[3] came out of him, and the boy was healed instantly.[4] (Zac 3:2; Mt 8:26; Mt 9:22; Mr 1:25; Lc 4:35; Lc 4:39; Jud 1:9)19Then the disciples came to Jesus privately and said, “Why could we not cast it out?”20He said to them, “Because of your little faith. Jesus Again Foretells Death, Resurrection
22As they were gathering[6] in Galilee, Jesus said to them, “The Son of Man is about to be delivered into the hands of men, (Mt 16:21; Mt 20:17; Mr 9:30; Lc 9:43)23and they will kill him, and he will be raised on the third day.” And they were greatly distressed. (Mr 8:31)
The Temple Tax
24When they came to Capernaum, the collectors of the two-drachma tax went up to Peter and said, “Does your teacher not pay the tax?” (Ex 30:13; Ex 38:26; Mr 9:33)25He said, “Yes.” And when he came into the house, Jesus spoke to him first, saying, “What do you think, Simon? From whom do kings of the earth take toll or tax? From their sons or from others?” (Mt 18:12; Mt 21:28; Mt 22:17; Mt 22:19; Mr 12:14; Ro 13:7)26And when he said, “From others,” Jesus said to him, “Then the sons are free.27However, not to give offense to them, go to the sea and cast a hook and take the first fish that comes up, and when you open its mouth you will find a shekel.[7] Take that and give it to them for me and for yourself.”
