1Se levantó y salió de aquel lugar hacia la región de Judea que está al este del río Jordán. La gente acudió a verlo y él, como de costumbre, se puso a enseñarles.2Varios fariseos se le acercaron y le preguntaron: ―¿Es correcto que un hombre se divorcie de su mujer? Trataban de tenderle una celada.3―¿Qué les ordenó Moisés? —les preguntó Jesús.4―Moisés permitió que el hombre le escriba a la esposa una carta de divorcio y la despida, —le respondieron.5Pero Jesús les dijo: ―Moisés dio ese mandamiento por la dureza del corazón de ustedes.6Pero al principio de la creación, Dios creó al hombre y a la mujer.7“Por eso, el hombre debe separarse de su padre y de su madre y unirse a su mujer8y los dos serán uno solo”. Así que ya no son dos sino una sola carne.9Por tanto, lo que Dios juntó que no lo separe el hombre.10Cuando regresó con los discípulos a la casa, volvieron a hablar del asunto.11―Si un hombre se divorcia de su esposa y se casa con otra —les dijo Jesús—, comete adulterio contra la primera.12Y si una mujer se divorcia del esposo y se vuelve a casar, también comete adulterio.
Jesús y los niños
13También le llevaban niños para que los tocara, pero los discípulos reprendieron a quienes los llevaban.14Cuando Jesús se dio cuenta, se disgustó con los discípulos. ―Dejen que los niños vengan a mí —les dijo—, porque de quienes son como ellos es el reino de los cielos. ¡No se lo impidan!15Les aseguro que el que no reciba el reino de Dios como un niño, no podrá entrar en él.16Entonces tomó a los niños en los brazos, puso las manos sobre ellos y los bendijo.
El joven rico
17Iba a seguir su camino cuando un hombre llegó corriendo hasta él y, de rodillas, le preguntó: ―Buen Maestro, ¿qué tengo que hacer para heredar la vida eterna?18―¿Por qué me llamas bueno? —le preguntó Jesús—. ¡El único bueno es Dios!19Ya sabes los mandamientos: “No matarás, no cometerás adulterio, no robarás, no darás falso testimonio, no defraudarás, honra a tu padre y a tu madre”.20―Maestro, todo esto lo he obedecido desde que era joven.21Jesús lo miró con amor y le dijo: ―Sólo te falta una cosa: ve, vende todo lo que tienes y dalo a los pobres, y tendrás tesoros en el cielo. Luego ven y sígueme.22Al oír esto, el hombre se afligió y se fue muy triste. ¡Tenía tantas riquezas!23Jesús mirando alrededor les dijo a sus discípulos: ―¡Qué difícil es para los ricos entrar en el reino de Dios!24Esto les sorprendió a los discípulos. Pero Jesús repitió: —Hijos, ¡qué difícil es entrar en el reino de los cielos!25Más fácil le es a un camello pasar por el ojo de una aguja que a un rico entrar en el reino de Dios.26Los discípulos se asombraron aún más y se preguntaban unos a otros: ―¿Y entonces, quién se puede salvar?27Jesús los miró fijamente y les respondió: ―Humanamente hablando, nadie. Pero para Dios no hay imposibles. Todo es posible para Dios.28Pedro comenzó a reclamarle: ¿Qué de nosotros, que hemos dejado todo por seguirte?29Le contestó Jesús: ―Les aseguro que el que haya dejado casa, hermanos, hermanas, padre, madre, hijos o tierras por amor a mí y por amor al evangelio,30recibirá en este mundo cien veces más: casas, hermanos, hermanas, madres, hijos y tierras, aunque con persecuciones. Y en el mundo venidero recibirá la vida eterna.31Pero muchos de los que son los primeros serán los últimos y muchos que ahora son los últimos, serán los primeros.
Jesús predice de nuevo su muerte
32Iban subiendo hacia Jerusalén y Jesús marchaba a la cabeza. Detrás iban los discípulos asombrados, y los otros que los seguían iban llenos de miedo. Una vez más Jesús llamó aparte a los doce y les habló de lo que le sucedería cuando llegaran a Jerusalén.33―Miren, cuando lleguemos, el Hijo del hombre será entregado a los principales sacerdotes y maestros de la ley, y ellos lo condenarán a muerte y lo entregarán a los extranjeros.34Se burlarán de él, lo escupirán, lo maltratarán a latigazos y lo matarán. Pero al tercer día resucitará.
La petición de Jacobo y Juan
35Jacobo y Juan, hijos de Zebedeo, se le acercaron y le dijeron: ―Maestro, queremos pedirte un favor.36―¿Qué quieren que haga por ustedes? —Les dijo Jesús.37―Queremos que en tu gloria nos permitas sentarnos junto a ti, uno a tu derecha y el otro a tu izquierda.38―¡No saben lo que están pidiendo! ¿Serán ustedes capaces de beber de la copa que tengo que beber?, ¿y bautizarse con el bautismo con que tengo que ser bautizado?39―¡Sí podemos! —le dijeron. Jesús les respondió: ―Pues beberán de mi copa y se bautizarán con mi bautismo,40pero yo no puedo concederles lo que me piden. Ya está decidido quiénes serán los que se sienten a mi derecha y a mi izquierda.41Cuando los demás discípulos oyeron lo que Jacobo y Juan habían pedido, se enojaron con ellos.42Por eso, Jesús los llamó y les dijo: ―Como saben, los que se consideran jefes de las naciones oprimen a su gente, y los grandes abusan de su autoridad.43Pero entre ustedes debe ser diferente. El que quiera ser superior debe servir a los demás.44Y el que quiera estar por encima de los otros debe ser esclavo de los demás.45Así debe ser, porque el Hijo del hombre no vino para que le sirvan, sino para servir a los demás y entregar su vida en rescate por muchos.
El ciego Bartimeo recibe la vista
46Fueron luego a Jericó. Poco después, Jesús salió de allí con sus discípulos y con mucha gente de la ciudad. Sentado junto al camino estaba un pordiosero ciego llamado Bartimeo, hijo de Timeo.47Cuando oyó que Jesús de Nazaret se acercaba, se puso a gritar: ―¡Jesús, Hijo de David, ten misericordia de mí!48―¡Cállate! —le gritaron algunos. Él gritó aun con más fuerza: ―¡Hijo de David, ten misericordia de mí!49Cuando Jesús lo oyó, se detuvo en el camino y ordenó: ―Díganle que venga. Se acercaron al ciego y le dijeron: ―¡Ánimo! ¡Levántate, te llama!50Bartimeo se quitó la capa, la tiró a un lado, dio un salto y fue a donde estaba Jesús.51―¿Qué quieres que te haga? —le preguntó Jesús. ―Maestro —dijo—, ¡quiero recobrar la vista!52Jesús le dijo: ―Puedes irte, tu fe te ha sanado. Instantáneamente el ciego vio; y siguió a Jesús en el camino.

Let the Children Come to Me
13And they were bringing children to him that he might touch them, and the disciples rebuked them. (Mt 19:13; Mr 10:48; Lc 18:15)14But when Jesus saw it, he was indignant and said to them, “Let the children come to me; do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of God. (Mt 18:3; Mr 9:39)15Truly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child shall not enter it.” (Lc 8:13; Jn 3:3; Jn 3:5; Stg 1:21)16And he took them in his arms and blessed them, laying his hands on them. (Mr 9:36; Ap 1:17)
The Rich Young Man
17And as he was setting out on his journey, a man ran up and knelt before him and asked him, “Good Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?” (Mt 19:16; Mt 25:34; Mr 1:40; Lc 10:25; Lc 18:18)18And Jesus said to him, “Why do you call me good? No one is good except God alone.19You know the commandments: ‘Do not murder, Do not commit adultery, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Do not defraud, Honor your father and mother.’” (Ex 20:12; Dt 5:16; Mt 5:21; Mt 5:27; Ro 13:9)20And he said to him, “Teacher, all these I have kept from my youth.” (Flp 3:6)21And Jesus, looking at him, loved him, and said to him, “You lack one thing: go, sell all that you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me.” (Mt 6:19; Mr 3:5; Mr 10:27; Lc 12:33; Lc 16:9; Lc 19:8; Lc 22:61; Jn 1:42; Jn 11:5; Jn 13:23; Hch 2:45; Hch 4:34; 1 Ti 6:18)22Disheartened by the saying, he went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions. But Jesus said to them again, “Children, how difficult it is[2] to enter the kingdom of God! (Job 31:24; Sal 49:6; Sal 52:7; Pr 11:28; Mr 2:5; Mr 10:23; Mr 10:32; Jn 13:33; Jn 21:5; 1 Ti 6:17)25It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the kingdom of God.” (Mr 10:23)26And they were exceedingly astonished, and said to him,[3] “Then who can be saved?”27Jesus looked at them and said, “With man it is impossible, but not with God. For all things are possible with God.” (Gn 18:14; Job 42:2; Jer 32:17; Jer 32:27; Mr 10:23; Mr 14:36; Lc 1:37)28Peter began to say to him, “See, we have left everything and followed you.” (Mt 4:20; Mt 4:22; Mr 1:18; Mr 1:20)29Jesus said, “Truly, I say to you, there is no one who has left house or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or lands, for my sake and for the gospel, (Mr 8:35; Lc 14:26)30who will not receive a hundredfold now in this time, houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and lands, with persecutions, and in the age to come eternal life. (Mt 6:33; Mt 12:32; Lc 20:35; Jn 15:20; Hch 14:22; 2 Co 12:10; Ef 1:21; 2 Ts 1:4; 2 Ti 3:11)31But many who are first will be last, and the last first.” (Mt 19:30)
Jesus Foretells His Death a Third Time
32And they were on the road, going up to Jerusalem, and Jesus was walking ahead of them. And they were amazed, and those who followed were afraid. And taking the twelve again, he began to tell them what was to happen to him, (Mt 20:17; Mr 10:24; Lc 9:51; Lc 18:31; Lc 19:28)33saying, “See, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be delivered over to the chief priests and the scribes, and they will condemn him to death and deliver him over to the Gentiles. (Mt 16:21; Mt 26:66; Mt 27:2; Jn 18:30; Jn 19:7; Hch 2:23; Hch 3:13; Hch 4:27; Hch 21:11)34And they will mock him and spit on him, and flog him and kill him. And after three days he will rise.” (Mt 26:67; Mt 27:26; Mr 8:31; Mr 14:65; Mr 15:19)
The Request of James and John
35And James and John, the sons of Zebedee, came up to him and said to him, “Teacher, we want you to do for us whatever we ask of you.” (Mt 18:19; Mt 20:20; Mr 1:19)36And he said to them, “What do you want me to do for you?” (Mr 10:51)37And they said to him, “Grant us to sit, one at your right hand and one at your left, in your glory.” (Mt 19:28; Lc 9:26)38Jesus said to them, “You do not know what you are asking. Are you able to drink the cup that I drink, or to be baptized with the baptism with which I am baptized?” (Is 51:22; Mt 26:29; Mt 26:42; Mr 14:36; Lc 9:33; Lc 12:50; Lc 22:42; Lc 23:34; Jn 18:11)39And they said to him, “We are able.” And Jesus said to them, “The cup that I drink you will drink, and with the baptism with which I am baptized, you will be baptized, (Hch 12:2; Ro 6:3; Ro 8:17; Flp 3:10; Ap 1:9)40but to sit at my right hand or at my left is not mine to grant, but it is for those for whom it has been prepared.” (Mt 19:11; Mt 25:34)41And when the ten heard it, they began to be indignant at James and John.42And Jesus called them to him and said to them, “You know that those who are considered rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great ones exercise authority over them. Jesus Heals Blind Bartimaeus
46And they came to Jericho. And as he was leaving Jericho with his disciples and a great crowd, Bartimaeus, a blind beggar, the son of Timaeus, was sitting by the roadside. (Mt 20:29; Lc 18:35; Lc 19:1; Jn 9:1; Jn 9:8)47And when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out and say, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” (Mr 1:24)48And many rebuked him, telling him to be silent. But he cried out all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!” (Mt 19:13)49And Jesus stopped and said, “Call him.” And they called the blind man, saying to him, “Take heart. Get up; he is calling you.” (Jn 16:33)50And throwing off his cloak, he sprang up and came to Jesus. (Mr 13:16)51And Jesus said to him, “What do you want me to do for you?” And the blind man said to him, “Rabbi, let me recover my sight.” (Mr 10:36; Jn 20:16)52And Jesus said to him, “Go your way; your faith has made you well.” And immediately he recovered his sight and followed him on the way.
