Pero aunque tú me has abandonado y te has juntado con muchos amantes, yo te he instado a que vuelvas a mí, dice el SEÑOR.2¿Habrá en todo el país sitio en que no hayas sido deshonrada por tus adulterios, es decir, tu adoración de esos otros dioses? Te sientas como prostituta en espera de cliente al lado del camino. Te sientas sola como acostumbran hacerlo los beduinos del desierto. Has corrompido la tierra con tu indigna prostitución.3Por eso han faltado hasta las lluvias de primavera, porque tú eres una coqueta del todo desvergonzada.4-5Y sin embargo me dices: «¡Oh Padre, tú siempre has sido amigo mío, de seguro no estarás enojado por una pequeñez así, de seguro la olvidarás!». Eso dices y prosigues haciendo todo el mal que puedes. Se han acumulado sin fin los delitos que has cometido.
La infidelidad de Israel
6Este comunicado del SEÑOR me llegó durante el reinado del rey Josías: ¿Has visto lo que hace Israel? Se comporta como esposa infiel que se entrega a otros hombres cada vez que puede, pues es semejante lo que hace Israel al rendirle homenaje a otros dioses en cualquier colina, debajo de cada árbol frondoso.7Yo pensaba que algún día retornaría a mí y volvería a ser mía; pero no regresó. Y su infiel hermana Judá vio la permanente rebelión de Israel,8pero no puso atención aunque vio que yo me divorcié de la infiel Israel. Ahora también Judá me ha dejado y se ha entregado a la prostitución, pues ha acudido a otros dioses para adorarlos.9No le dio ninguna importancia al asunto; para ella no era nada adorar ídolos de madera y piedra, y así la tierra se contaminó y se corrompió grandemente como consecuencia de estas conductas reprobables.10Luego, más tarde, esta infiel«regresó» a mí, pero su«arrepentimiento» era fingido, dice el SEÑOR.11En realidad la infiel Israel es menos culpable que la traidora Judá.12Por lo tanto ve y dile a Israel: ¡Oh Israel, pueblo mío pecador, vuelve a mí, pues soy misericordioso; no estaré eternamente enojado contigo, dice el SEÑOR, porque mi capacidad de perdonar es muy grande!13Basta con que reconozcas tu culpa, reconoce que te rebelaste contra el SEÑOR tu Dios y cometiste adulterio contra él, adorando ídolos debajo de cada árbol; confiesa que te negaste a seguir mis instrucciones, dice el SEÑOR.14¡Oh hijos que se han alejado de mí, regresen, pues yo soy su SEÑOR y quiero llevarlos de regreso a la tierra de Israel, uno de aquí, otro de allá, en dondequiera que estén esparcidos,15y les daré líderes bien probados que los guíen con sabiduría y comprensión!16Entonces, cuando su tierra esté nuevamente poblada, dice el SEÑOR, ya no suspirarán por«los buenos tiempos que fueron» cuando tenían el cofre del pacto de Dios. No echarán de menos aquellos días y ni siquiera pensarán en ellos, y el cofre no será reconstruido,17porque el SEÑOR mismo estará entre ustedes, y toda la ciudad de Jerusalén será conocida como el Trono del SEÑOR, y todas las naciones acudirán a él allá y no seguirán empecinadas en sus malos propósitos.18En aquel tiempo los pueblos de Judá e Israel volverán juntos de su cautiverio desde el norte a la tierra que yo di a sus antepasados como herencia para siempre.19Y yo di a conocer mi propósito de adoptarles como mi hijo. Esperaba ilusionado que me llamaran«Padre», y creía que nunca volverían a abandonarme.20Pero me han traicionado; se han alejado, entregándose a una hueste de dioses extraños; fueron como esposa infiel que abandona a su marido, dice el SEÑOR.21En lo alto de los montes que el viento azota oigo voces que gritan a todo pulmón. Son los hijos de Israel que le dieron la espalda al SEÑOR su Dios y se alejaron.22¡Oh rebeldes hijos míos, vuélvanse a mí y yo los aliviaré del dolor provocado por sus delitos! Y ellos responden: «¡Sí, volveremos, pues tú eres el SEÑOR Dios nuestro!23Hartos estamos de adorar ídolos en las colinas y de celebrar orgías en los montes. Todo esto es sólo farsa. Sólo en el SEÑOR nuestro Dios podrá Israel hallar auxilio y salvación, ahora lo entendemos.24Desde nuestra niñez hemos visto cuanto nuestros antepasados tenían (rebaños, ganado, hijos e hijas) derrochado en sacerdotes e ídolos, y ahora vemos que por causa de la idolatría lo hemos perdido todo.25Aceptemos nuestra vergüenza y deshonra, que desde nuestra niñez nosotros y nuestros antepasados hemos pecado contra el SEÑOR nuestro Dios, y que no le hemos obedecido».

6The Lord said to me in the days of King Josiah: “Have you seen what she did, that faithless one, Israel, how she went up on every high hill and under every green tree, and there played the whore? (Jer 1:2; Jer 2:20; Jer 3:1)7And I thought, ‘After she has done all this she will return to me,’ but she did not return, and her treacherous sister Judah saw it. (Ez 16:46; Ez 23:4)8She saw that for all the adulteries of that faithless one, Israel, I had sent her away with a decree of divorce. Yet her treacherous sister Judah did not fear, but she too went and played the whore.
