Juicio contra reyes malvados

1 Luego el SEÑOR me dijo: Ve a hablarle directamente al rey de Judá y dile: 2 Oye este mensaje del SEÑOR, rey de Judá, tú que ocupas el trono de David, y escuchen también tus servidores y tu pueblo. 3 El SEÑOR dice: Sean justos. Procedan con rectitud. Ayuden a los que requieren justicia. Deténganse en sus maldades. Protejan los derechos de los extranjeros e inmigrantes, de los huérfanos y las viudas; ¡dejen de matar inocentes! 4 Si dejan las terribles acciones que están cometiendo, yo libraré a esta nación y otra vez le daré reyes que ocupen el trono de David, y habrá prosperidad para todos. 5 Pero si no atienden esta advertencia, juro por mi gran fama, dice el SEÑOR, que este palacio lo convertiré en ruinas y la familia real acabada. 6 Porque este es el mensaje del SEÑOR respecto a la familia real: Te quiero tanto como a la fructífera Galaad y a los verdes bosques del Líbano, pero te destruiré y te dejaré desierta y deshabitada. 7 Llamaré a una cuadrilla de demoledores que traigan sus herramientas y te desmantelen. Arrancarán todas tus magníficas vigas de cedro y las echarán al fuego. 8 Hombres de muchas naciones pasarán junto a las ruinas de esta ciudad y se dirán uno al otro: «¿Por qué hizo esto el SEÑOR? ¿Por qué destruyó esta gran ciudad?». 9 Y su respuesta será: «Porque el pueblo que la habitaba olvidó al SEÑOR su Dios y violó el convenio que habían firmado con él, y le rindieron homenaje a ídolos». 10 ¡No lloren la muerte de Josías! ¡Lloren más bien por los que son llevados cautivos! Porque jamás volverán a ver su país natal. 11 Esto dice el SEÑOR respecto a Salún, que reinó después de su padre el rey Josías, y fue llevado cautivo: 12 Morirá en tierra lejana, y jamás volverá a ver su patria. 13 ¡Ay de ti, rey Joacim, porque estás edificando tu gran palacio con trabajo forzado! Al no pagar los salarios a los trabajadores, es como si estuvieras edificando los muros con materiales de injusticia y con opresión haces los marcos de las puertas y los cielos rasos. 14 Tú dices: «Construiré un magnífico palacio con grandes cámaras y muchas ventanas, con artesonados de fragante cedro y pintado de atractivo color rojo». 15 ¡Pero no es la belleza del palacio lo que hace la grandeza del rey! ¿Por qué reinó tanto tiempo tu padre Josías? Porque fue justo e imparcial en todos sus actos. Por eso lo bendijo Dios. 16 Él se encargó de que a los pobres y menesterosos se les hiciera justicia y se les ayudara, y todo le salió bien. Esa es la manera de vivir de acuerdo a mi voluntad, dice el SEÑOR. 17 Pero tú, ¡tú estás lleno de codicia y fraude! Matas a los inocentes, oprimes a los pobres y reinas despiadadamente. 18 Por lo tanto, esta es la condena del SEÑOR contra el rey Joacim, quien reinó después de su padre Josías: Su familia no lo llorará cuando muera. A sus súbditos ni siquiera les importará que haya muerto. ¡Que tristeza ser echado al olvido de esa manera! 19 Lo enterrarán como si fuera un burro: lo sacarán de Jerusalén a rastras y lo echarán en el muladar más allá de los límites de la ciudad. 20 Llora, porque se han ido tus aliados. Búscalos en el Líbano, llámalos a gritos en Basán, búscalos en los vados del Jordán. Mira, todos han muerto, no quedó ni uno que te ayude. 21 Cuando todo te iba bien te lo advertí, pero tú respondiste: «No me molestes». Así fuiste desde tu niñez; ¡de plano te niegas a escuchar! 22 Y ahora todos tus aliados han desaparecido con un soplo del viento. A todos tus amigos se los llevaron como esclavos. Sin duda por fin comprenderás tu maldad y tendrás vergüenza. 23 Seguro que es muy bonito vivir con elegancia en un hermoso palacio construido con madera de cedro del Líbano, pero pronto llorarás y gemirás angustiado como mujer a punto de dar a luz. 24-25 Y respecto a ti, Jeconías, hijo de Joacim rey de Judá, aunque tú fueras el anillo del sello en mi mano derecha, yo te sacaría y te entregaría en manos de quienes buscan tu muerte, de quienes tienes tanto miedo: Nabucodonosor rey de Babilonia y su poderoso ejército. 26 A ti y a tu madre los echaré de este país, y morirán en país lejano. 27 Jamás retornarán a la tierra que tanto aman. 28 Este Jeconías es como plato quebrado y desechado. Él y sus hijos irán desterrados a tierras lejanas, igual como se desecha un plato quebrado. 29 ¡Ay tierra, tierra, tierra! ¡Escucha el mensaje del SEÑOR! 30 El SEÑOR dice: Haz constar que este Jeconías no tendrá descendencia, pues ninguno de sus hijos ocupará el trono de David ni gobernará en Judá. Su vida no tendrá ninguna importancia.

6 For thus says the Lord concerning the house of the king of Judah: “You are like Gilead to me, like the summit of Lebanon, yet surely I will make you a desert, an uninhabited city.^[1] (Jer 6:8; Jer 22:20; Jer 22:23) 7 I will prepare destroyers against you, each with his weapons, and they shall cut down your choicest cedars and cast them into the fire. 14 who says, ‘I will build myself a great house with spacious upper rooms,’ who cuts out windows for it, paneling it with cedar and painting it with vermilion.
