1¡Ay de Jerusalén, la ciudad de David! Año tras año presentan múltiples ofrendas,2pero yo enviaré un gran castigo sobre ustedes que les causará llanto y dolor. Porque Jerusalén será como indica su nombre, «Ariel», que significa«altar cubierto de sangre».3Yo seré su enemigo, yo rodearé a Jerusalén y la sitiaré, y luego construiré fuertes en torno a ella para destruirla.4Su voz será como un susurro de fantasma desde el sitio en donde yacerán enterrados sus habitantes.5Pero súbitamente sus implacables enemigos serán rechazados como si fueran paja barrida por el viento.6En un instante yo, el SEÑOR Todopoderoso, me arrojaré sobre ellos con trueno, terremoto, torbellino y fuego.7Y todas las naciones que combaten contra Jerusalén se desvanecerán como una quimera.8Como el hambriento sueña con comer pero queda hambriento, y como el sediento sueña con beber pero queda atormentado por la sed al despertar, así sus enemigos soñarán victoriosas conquistas pero en vano.9¿Se quedan maravillados, incrédulos? ¿No lo creen? ¡Pues adelante, y continúen ciegos si así ha de ser! ¡Torpes están, y no por la embriaguez! ¡Se tambalean, y no por el vino!10Porque el SEÑOR ha derramado sobre ustedes espíritu de profundo sueño. Ha cerrado los ojos de sus profetas y videntes11para que todos estos sucesos futuros sean para ellos como libro sellado. Cuando se lo entregan a uno para que lo lea, este dice: ―No puedo, porque está sellado.12Se lo dan a otro, y dice: ―Lo siento, no sé leer.13Y entonces el SEÑOR dice: Puesto que este pueblo dice que me pertenece pero no me obedece, y puesto que su adoración se limita a palabras y repeticiones de fórmulas de memoria,14me vengaré espantosamente de estos hipócritas, y entonteceré a sus más sabios consejeros.15¡Ay de quienes procuran ocultar del SEÑOR sus planes, que procuran esconderle lo que hacen! «Dios no puede vernos», se dicen, «no sabe lo que está ocurriendo».16¡De qué estupidez son capaces! El Alfarero, ¿no es mayor que las vasijas que hace? ¿Le dirán: «No fue él quien nos hizo»? ¿La máquina llama tonto a su inventor?17Pronto, no tardará mucho, el páramo del Líbano volverá a ser un campo fructífero, lozano y fértil bosque.18En aquel día los sordos oirán la palabra del libro, y desde su tristeza y tinieblas los ciegos conocerán mis planes.19Los mansos rebosarán nuevo júbilo procedente del SEÑOR y los pobres se gozarán en el Santo de Israel.20Desaparecerán los opresores y los burladores ya no existirán, y morirán cuantos traman maldades:21el violento que riñe por un quítame allá esas pajas, el que acecha escondido para atacar al juez que lo condenó, y los que valiéndose de cualquier excusa cometen injusticias.22Por eso dice el SEÑOR que liberó a Abraham: Ya mi pueblo no volverá a palidecer de miedo ni será más avergonzado.23Pues cuando vean el explosivo aumento de población y la prosperidad de su economía en expansión, temerán y se gozarán en la fama de mi nombre, y alabarán al Santo de Israel, y con admiración estarán en su presencia.24Los que estaban equivocados creerán en la verdad y los quejosos estarán dispuestos a recibir enseñanza.

(1 R 19:11)7And the multitude of all the nations that fight against Ariel, all that fight against her and her stronghold and distress her, shall be like a dream, a vision of the night. (Job 20:8; Is 17:14; Miq 4:11; Zac 12:9)8As when a hungry man dreams, and behold, he is eating, and awakes with his hunger not satisfied, or as when a thirsty man dreams, and behold, he is drinking, and awakes faint, with his thirst not quenched, so shall the multitude of all the nations be that fight against Mount Zion. (Sal 73:20; Sal 90:5)9Astonish yourselves[2] and be astonished; blind yourselves and be blind! Be drunk,[3] but not with wine; stagger,[4] but not with strong drink! (Is 19:14; Is 24:20)10For the Lord has poured out upon you a spirit of deep sleep, and has closed your eyes (the prophets), and covered your heads (the seers). (Is 6:10; Ro 11:8)11And the vision of all this has become to you like the words of a book that is sealed. When men give it to one who can read, saying, “Read this,” he says, “I cannot, for it is sealed.” (Is 8:16; Dn 12:4)12And when they give the book to one who cannot read, saying, “Read this,” he says, “I cannot read.”13And the Lord said: “Because this people draw near with their mouth and honor me with their lips, while their hearts are far from me, and their fear of me is a commandment taught by men, (Is 1:12; Is 58:2; Ez 33:31; Mt 15:8; Mr 7:6)14therefore, behold, I will again do wonderful things with this people, with wonder upon wonder; and the wisdom of their wise men shall perish, and the discernment of their discerning men shall be hidden.” (Is 3:1; Jer 49:7; Hab 1:5; 1 Co 1:19)15Ah, you who hide deep from the Lord your counsel, whose deeds are in the dark, and who say, “Who sees us? Shall the potter be regarded as the clay, that the thing made should say of its maker, “He did not make me”; or the thing formed say of him who formed it, “He has no understanding”? (Is 10:15)17Is it not yet a very little while until Lebanon shall be turned into a fruitful field, and the fruitful field shall be regarded as a forest? (Sal 107:33; Sal 107:35)18In that day the deaf shall hear the words of a book, and out of their gloom and darkness the eyes of the blind shall see. (Is 51:2)23For when he sees his children, the work of my hands, in his midst, they will sanctify my name; they will sanctify the Holy One of Jacob and will stand in awe of the God of Israel.
