1Esta es la visión que Dios le mostró a Isaías, hijo de Amoz, respecto a la caída de Babilonia.2Vean cómo ondean las banderas mientras sus enemigos la atacan. ¡Grítenles, oh Israel, y háganles señas cuando marchan contra Babilonia a destruir los palacios de los ricos y poderosos!3Yo, el SEÑOR, he apartado estos ejércitos para la tarea; he llamado a los que se gozan en su fuerza para que hagan esta obra, para satisfacer mi ira.4Escuchen el tumulto en los montes. ¡Escuchen a los ejércitos en marcha! Es el tumulto y el clamor de muchas naciones. El SEÑOR Todopoderoso los ha congregado aquí,5desde lejanos países. Son las armas que emplea contra ti, oh Babilonia. Son portadores de su ira y destruirán toda tu tierra.6Griten aterrorizados, porque ha llegado el día del SEÑOR, el tiempo en que el Todopoderoso los aplastará.7Tienen los brazos paralizados de miedo; hasta los más recios corazones se derriten8y están llenos de miedo. El terror los atenaza con terribles dolores como los de la mujer a punto de dar a luz. Se miran unos a otros, indefensos, mientras las llamas de la ciudad incendiada se reflejan en sus pálidos rostros.9Pues vean, viene el día del SEÑOR, el terrible día cuando dará rienda libre a su cólera y gran ira. Entonces será destruido el país y con él todos los pecadores.10El cielo se oscurecerá sobre ellos. No darán su luz las estrellas, ni el sol ni la luna.11Y yo castigaré al mundo por su maldad, a los inicuos por su pecado. Yo aplastaré la arrogancia de los orgullosos y la altivez de los ricos.12Pocos quedarán con vida cuando yo acabe mi obra destructora. Escasearán los hombres como escasea el oro; valdrán más que el oro de Ofir.13En mi ira y furor sacudiré los cielos y entonces la tierra se saldrá de su órbita en los cielos.14Los ejércitos de Babilonia correrán hasta agotarse, huyendo hacia su país como si fueran venados perseguidos por los perros, como ovejas errantes abandonadas de su pastor.15Los que no huyan caerán en la matanza.16Sus pequeños serán estrellados contra el pavimento ante sus propios ojos; sus casas serán saqueadas, y violadas sus esposas por las hordas invasoras.17Porque yo incitaré a los medos contra Babilonia, y no habrá plata ni oro suficientes para aplacarlos.18El ejército atacante no se apiadará de los jóvenes de Babilonia, ni de sus infantes o niños de pecho.19Y así Babilonia, el más glorioso de los reinos, flor y nata de la cultura caldea, será completamente arrasada como lo fueron Sodoma y Gomorra cuando Dios les envió fuego del cielo;20jamás volverá a surgir Babilonia. Generaciones vendrán y pasarán pero su tierra no volverá a ser habitada ni los nómadas volverán a acampar en ella. Los pastores jamás pernoctarán allí con sus ovejas.21Las fieras del desierto tendrán allí su morada y por sus casas andarán bestias ululantes. Las habitarán los avestruces, y los demonios tendrán allí sus danzas.22Hienas y chacales tendrán su guarida en sus palacios. Contados están los días de Babilonia, pronto será el día de su caída.

The sound of an uproar of kingdoms, of nations gathering together! The LORD of hosts is mustering a host for battle. (Jos 5:13; Jos 5:14; Is 22:5)5They come from a distant land, from the end of the heavens, the LORD and the weapons of his indignation, to destroy the whole land.[2] (Is 46:11)6Wail, for the day of the LORD is near; as destruction from the Almighty[3] it will come! (Jos 2:11)8They will be dismayed: pangs and agony will seize them; they will be in anguish like a woman in labor. They will look aghast at one another; their faces will be aflame. (Is 26:17; Jer 4:31; Jer 6:24; Miq 4:9; Miq 4:10; Nah 2:10; Jn 16:21)9Behold, the day of the LORD comes, cruel, with wrath and fierce anger, to make the land a desolation and to destroy its sinners from it. (Sal 104:35; Is 6:1)10For the stars of the heavens and their constellations will not give their light; the sun will be dark at its rising, and the moon will not shed its light. (Is 34:4; Ez 32:7; Jl 2:31; Jl 3:15; Mt 24:29; Mr 13:24; Lc 21:25)11I will punish the world for its evil, and the wicked for their iniquity; I will put an end to the pomp of the arrogant, and lay low the pompous pride of the ruthless. (Is 2:11; Is 2:17; Is 24:4; Is 24:21)12I will make people more rare than fine gold, and mankind than the gold of Ophir. (1 R 10:11; Job 28:16; Is 24:6)13Therefore I will make the heavens tremble, and the earth will be shaken out of its place, at the wrath of the LORD of hosts in the day of his fierce anger. (Hag 2:6)14And like a hunted gazelle, or like sheep with none to gather them, each will turn to his own people, and each will flee to his own land. (1 R 22:36; Jer 50:16; Jer 51:9)15Whoever is found will be thrust through, and whoever is caught will fall by the sword.16Their infants will be dashed in pieces before their eyes; their houses will be plundered and their wives ravished. (Sal 137:9; Nah 3:10)17Behold, I am stirring up the Medes against them, who have no regard for silver and do not delight in gold. (Is 21:2; Jer 51:11; Jer 51:28; Dn 5:28; Dn 5:31)18Their bows will slaughter[4] the young men; they will have no mercy on the fruit of the womb; their eyes will not pity children. (Jer 50:14; Jer 50:29; Jer 51:3)19And Babylon, the glory of kingdoms, the splendor and pomp of the Chaldeans, will be like Sodom and Gomorrah when God overthrew them. (Gn 19:24; Is 1:9; Is 47:5; Jer 50:40; Am 4:11)20It will never be inhabited or lived in for all generations; no Arab will pitch his tent there; no shepherds will make their flocks lie down there. (Jer 3:2; Jer 33:12; Jer 51:37; Jer 51:43)21But wild animals will lie down there, and their houses will be full of howling creatures; there ostriches[5] will dwell, and there wild goats will dance. (Is 34:13; Is 34:14; Jer 50:39)22Hyenas[6] will cry in its towers, and jackals in the pleasant palaces; its time is close at hand and its days will not be prolonged.
