1Yo, pues, que estoy prisionero por servir al Señor, les ruego con todo cariño que se comporten como es digno de los que han sido llamados por Dios.2Sean totalmente humildes y amables. Sean pacientes entre ustedes y, por amor, sean tolerantes unos con otros.3Esfuércense por mantener la unidad creada por el Espíritu, por medio de la paz que nos une.4Somos un solo cuerpo y tenemos un mismo Espíritu; además, hemos sido llamados a una misma esperanza.5Sólo hay un Señor, una fe y un bautismo;6y tenemos el mismo Dios y Padre, que está sobre todos nosotros. Él actúa por medio de todos nosotros y está en todos nosotros.7Sin embargo, debido a su amor, Cristo nos ha dado a cada uno de nosotros dones diferentes.8Por eso un salmo dice: «Cuando el Señor subió a lo alto, llevó consigo a los cautivos, y dio dones a los hombres».9¿Qué quiere decir eso de que«subió»? Eso implica que primero descendió hasta lo más bajo de la tierra.10Pues bien, el que descendió, luego regresó a lo más alto de los cielos para poder llenarlo todo.11Y a algunos les dio el don de ser apóstoles; a otros, el don de ser profetas; a otros, el de anunciar las buenas nuevas; y a otros, el don de pastorear y educar al pueblo de Dios.12Su propósito es que su pueblo esté perfectamente capacitado para servir a los demás, y para ayudar al cuerpo de Cristo a crecer.13De esta manera, todos llegaremos a estar unidos en la fe y en el conocimiento del Hijo de Dios, hasta que lleguemos a ser una humanidad en plena madurez, tal como es Cristo.14Así dejaremos de ser como niños que cambian de creencias cada vez que alguien les dice algo diferente o logra astutamente que sus mentiras parezcan verdades.15Más bien, al vivir la verdad con amor, creceremos y cada vez seremos más semejantes en todo a Cristo, que es nuestra Cabeza.16Por lo que él hace, cada una de las partes del cuerpo, según el don recibido, ayuda a las demás para que el cuerpo entero y unido crezca y se nutra de amor.
Vivan como hijos de luz
17Por eso les digo e insisto de parte del Señor que no vivan ya como los paganos: ciegos y confundidos.18Ellos tienen nublada la mente y desconocen la vida que viene de Dios. Esto se debe a que son ignorantes y han endurecido su corazón.19Así, después de haber perdido la vergüenza, se han entregado sin freno alguno a cometer toda clase de inmoralidades. A pesar de que hacen cuanta maldad les viene en gana, nunca están satisfechos.20¡Pero eso no es lo que ustedes aprendieron acerca de Cristo!21Si de veras han escuchado acerca del Señor y han aprendido a vivir como él, saben que la verdad está en Jesús.22Por ello, quítense, como si se tratara de ropa vieja, su naturaleza tan corrompida por los malos deseos.23Renueven sus actitudes y pensamientos;24sí, revístanse de la nueva naturaleza que Dios creó, para que sean como él, verdaderamente justos e íntegros.25Dejen, por lo tanto, la mentira; díganse la verdad unos a otros siempre, porque somos miembros de un mismo cuerpo.26Si se enojan, no cometan el pecado de dejar que el enojo les dure todo el día.27Así no le darán lugar al diablo.28El que era ladrón, deje de robar; al contrario, trabaje honradamente con sus manos para que tenga con qué ayudar a los que estén en necesidad.29Nunca empleen un lenguaje sucio; más bien digan palabras que les hagan bien a los que las oyen y los ayuden a madurar.30No entristezcan al Espíritu Santo de Dios, con el cual Dios los selló para el día de la salvación.31Arrojen de ustedes la amargura, el enojo, la ira, los gritos, las calumnias y todo tipo de maldad.32Al contrario, sean bondadosos entre ustedes, sean compasivos y perdónense las faltas los unos a los otros, de la misma manera que Dios los perdonó a ustedes por medio de Cristo.

(Hch 8:23; Col 3:14)4There is one body and one Spirit—just as you were called to the one hope that belongs to your call— (Ef 1:18; Ef 2:16; Ef 2:18)5one Lord, one faith, one baptism, (Zac 14:9; 1 Co 1:13; 1 Co 8:6; Gl 3:27; Ef 4:13; Jud 1:3)6one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all. (Ro 9:5; 1 Co 12:5)7But grace was given to each one of us according to the measure of Christ’s gift. (Mt 25:15; Ro 12:3; 1 Co 12:7; Ef 3:2; Ef 4:16)8Therefore it says, “When he ascended on high he led a host of captives, and he gave gifts to men.”[1] (Jue 5:12; Sal 68:18; Col 2:15)9(In saying, “He ascended,” what does it mean but that he had also descended into the lower regions, the earth?[2] (Sal 63:9; Is 44:23; Jn 3:13)10He who descended is the one who also ascended far above all the heavens, that he might fill all things.) (Mr 16:19; Ef 1:23; Heb 4:14; Heb 7:26; Heb 9:24)11And he gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds[3] and teachers,[4] (Jer 3:15; Hch 20:28; Hch 21:8; 1 Co 12:5; 1 Co 12:28; 2 Ti 4:5)12to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, (1 Co 12:27; 2 Co 13:9; Ef 4:16; Ef 4:29)13until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood,[5] to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ, (Ef 1:23; Ef 4:5; Heb 5:14)14so that we may no longer be children, tossed to and fro by the waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by human cunning, by craftiness in deceitful schemes. (Mt 11:7; Ef 6:11; Heb 13:9; Stg 1:6; Jud 1:12)15Rather, speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ, (Ef 1:22; Ef 2:21; Ef 4:25; 1 Jn 3:18)16from whom the whole body, joined and held together by every joint with which it is equipped, when each part is working properly, makes the body grow so that it builds itself up in love. (Ef 4:7; Col 2:19)
The New Life
17Now this I say and testify in the Lord, that you must no longer walk as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their minds. (Ro 1:21; Ef 2:1; Ef 4:22; Col 2:18; Col 3:7; 1 Ts 2:12; 1 P 1:18; 1 P 4:3; 2 P 2:18)18They are darkened in their understanding, alienated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them, due to their hardness of heart. (Mr 3:5; Ro 11:10; Ef 2:12)19They have become callous and have given themselves up to sensuality, greedy to practice every kind of impurity. (1 R 21:25; Pr 23:35; Ro 1:24; Ro 1:26; Ro 1:28; 1 Ti 4:2)20But that is not the way you learned Christ!— (Mt 11:29)21assuming that you have heard about him and were taught in him, as the truth is in Jesus, (Ef 1:13; Col 2:7)22to put off your old self,[6] which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, (Ro 6:6; Col 3:8; Col 3:9; Heb 3:13; Heb 12:1; Stg 1:21; 1 P 2:1)23and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, (Ro 12:2)24and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness. (Ro 6:4; Ef 2:10)25Therefore, having put away falsehood, let each one of you speak the truth with his neighbor, for we are members one of another. (Zac 8:16; Ro 12:5; Ef 4:15; Col 3:9)26Be angry and do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger, (Sal 37:8)27and give no opportunity to the devil. (Stg 4:7)28Let the thief no longer steal, but rather let him labor, doing honest work with his own hands, so that he may have something to share with anyone in need. (Pr 21:26; Hch 20:35; Gl 6:10; 1 Ts 4:11; 2 Ts 3:8; 2 Ts 3:11)29Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear. (Ec 10:12; Mt 12:34; Ef 5:4; Col 3:8; Col 4:6)30And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. (Is 63:10; Ef 1:7; Ef 1:13; 1 Ts 5:19)31Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice. (Col 3:8; Col 3:19)32Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you. (Mt 6:14; 2 Co 2:7; 2 Co 2:10; Col 3:12; 1 P 3:8)
