Saúl intenta matar a David

1 Saúl sugirió a sus servidores y a Jonatán su hijo que asesinaran a David. Pero Jonatán, movido por la estrecha amistad que lo ligaba con David, 2 le contó lo que su padre planeaba. ―Mañana por la mañana —le advirtió—, debes esconderte en un lugar en el campo. 3 Le pediré a mi padre que vaya allá conmigo y le hablaré a tu favor. Entonces veré qué es lo que piensa acerca de ti y te lo diré. 4 A la mañana siguiente, mientras Jonatán conversaba con su padre, le habló bien de David y le pidió que no lo tuviera por enemigo. ―Él nada ha hecho contra ti —le dijo Jonatán—. Siempre te ha ayudado en todo lo que ha podido. 5 ¿Te has olvidado de cuando arriesgó su vida por dar muerte a Goliat y cómo el SEÑOR le dio una gran victoria a Israel como resultado? Entonces estabas muy feliz. ¿Por qué ahora quieres asesinar a un hombre inocente? No hay razón para ello. 6 Saúl halló razón en las palabras de Jonatán y juró: ―Vive el SEÑOR que no mataré a David. 7 Jonatán llamó a David, le contó lo ocurrido, y lo llevó ante Saúl y todo quedó como antes. 8 La guerra estalló poco después, David dirigió las tropas contra los filisteos, y mató a muchos de ellos haciendo huir a todo el ejército. 9 Pero un día en que Saúl estaba sentado en su casa oyendo a David tocar el arpa, repentinamente el espíritu que lo atormentaba de parte del SEÑOR lo atacó. Tenía la lanza en la mano 10 y se la arrojó a David con la intención de matarlo, pero David se hizo a un lado y huyó en la noche, dejándola clavada en la madera de la pared. 11 Saúl entonces envió soldados para que vigilaran la casa de David y le dieran muerte cuando apareciera en la mañana. «Si no te vas esta noche —le dijo Mical—, mañana serás hombre muerto». 12 Ella lo ayudó a bajar por la ventana. 13 Tomó luego una estatua y la puso en la cama con una almohada de pelo de cabra en la cabecera y la cubrió con una manta. 14 Cuando llegaron los soldados para arrestar a David, ella les dijo que estaba enfermo. 15 Pero Saúl ordenó que se lo llevasen en la cama para darle muerte. 16 Mas cuando volvieron para llevárselo, descubrieron que se trataba de una estatua. 17 ―¿Por qué me has engañado y has dejado escapar a mi enemigo? —le preguntó Saúl a Mical. ―Tuve que hacerlo —contestó Mical—. Él amenazó con matarme si no le ayudaba. 18 De este modo escapó David y se dirigió a Ramá para ver a Samuel. Allí le contó todo lo que Saúl había hecho. Samuel se llevó a David a vivir con él en Nayot. 19 Cuando Saúl supo que David estaba en Nayot de Ramá, 20 envió soldados para que lo capturasen. Pero cuando llegaron y vieron a Samuel y a los demás profetas que profetizaban, el Espíritu de Dios cayó sobre ellos y ellos también comenzaron a profetizar. 21 Cuando Saúl supo lo que había sucedido, envió a otros soldados, pero ellos también profetizaron. Y lo mismo ocurrió una tercera vez. 22 Entonces Saúl mismo fue a Ramá y llegó a la fuente que hay en Secú. ―¿Dónde están Samuel y David? —demandó. Alguien le dijo que estaban en Nayot, 23 pero en el camino a Nayot, el Espíritu de Dios vino sobre Saúl y él también comenzó a profetizar. 24 Se despojó de sus vestiduras y estuvo desnudo todo el día y toda la noche profetizando delante de Samuel. ―¡Cómo! —exclamaron—. ¿Saúl entre los profetas?

Saul Tries to Kill David

1 And Saul spoke to Jonathan his son and to all his servants, that they should kill David. But Jonathan, Saul’s son, delighted much in David. (1 S 18:1) 2 And Jonathan told David, “Saul my father seeks to kill you. Therefore be on your guard in the morning. Stay in a secret place and hide yourself. 3 And I will go out and stand beside my father in the field where you are, and I will speak to my father about you. And if I learn anything I will tell you.” 4 And Jonathan spoke well of David to Saul his father and said to him, “Let not the king sin against his servant David, because he has not sinned against you, and because his deeds have brought good to you. (Gn 42:22) 5 For he took his life in his hand and he struck down the Philistine, and the Lord worked a great salvation for all Israel. You saw it, and rejoiced. 6 And Saul listened to the voice of Jonathan. Saul swore, “As the Lord lives, he shall not be put to death.” (Rt 3:13) 7 And Jonathan called David, and Jonathan reported to him all these things. And Jonathan brought David to Saul, and he was in his presence as before. (1 S 16:21; 1 S 18:2; 1 S 18:13) 8 And there was war again. And David went out and fought with the Philistines and struck them with a great blow, so that they fled before him. 9 Then a harmful spirit from the Lord came upon Saul, as he sat in his house with his spear in his hand. And David was playing the lyre. (1 S 16:14; 1 S 16:16) 10 And Saul sought to pin David to the wall with the spear, but he eluded Saul, so that he struck the spear into the wall. And David fled and escaped that night. (1 S 18:11; 1 S 20:33) 11 Saul sent messengers to David’s house to watch him, that he might kill him in the morning. But Michal, David’s wife, told him, “If you do not escape with your life tonight, tomorrow you will be killed.” 12 So Michal let David down through the window, and he fled away and escaped. (Jos 2:15; Hch 9:24; 2 Co 11:33) 13 Michal took an image^[1] and laid it on the bed and put a pillow of goats’ hair at its head and covered it with the clothes. (Gn 31:19) 14 And when Saul sent messengers to take David, she said, “He is sick.” 15 Then Saul sent the messengers to see David, saying, “Bring him up to me in the bed, that I may kill him.” 16 And when the messengers came in, behold, the image was in the bed, with the pillow of goats’ hair at its head. (1 S 19:13) 17 Saul said to Michal, “Why have you deceived me thus and let my enemy go, so that he has escaped?” And Michal answered Saul, “He said to me, ‘Let me go. Why should I kill you?’” (2 S 2:22) 18 Now David fled and escaped, and he came to Samuel at Ramah and told him all that Saul had done to him. And he and Samuel went and lived at Naioth. (1 S 1:19) 19 And it was told Saul, “Behold, David is at Naioth in Ramah.” 20 Then Saul sent messengers to take David, and when they saw the company of the prophets prophesying, and Samuel standing as head over them, the Spirit of God came upon the messengers of Saul, and they also prophesied.
