de Biblica1Por lo tanto, dejen de hacer toda clase de mal, todo engaño, hipocresía, envidias y chismes.2Como niños recién nacidos busquen con ansias la leche pura de la palabra. Así, por medio de ella crecerán en su salvación,3ahora que han probado lo bueno que es el Señor.
La piedra viva y su pueblo escogido
4Acérquense a Cristo, que es la Piedra viva que los seres humanos despreciaron pero que Dios escogió y es preciosa para él. De este modo,5también ustedes son piedras vivas con las que se está edificando una casa espiritual. Así llegan a ser un sacerdocio santo, para que le ofrezcan a Dios sacrificios espirituales por medio de Jesucristo. Estos sacrificios a él le agradan.6Como dice la Escritura: «Yo pongo en Sion una piedra que es la principal, escogida y preciosa, y el que confíe en ella jamás será defraudado».7Para ustedes los creyentes, esta piedra es preciosa. Pero para los que no creen: «La piedra que los constructores despreciaron ha llegado a ser la piedra más importante».8Y también: «Es una piedra con la cual tropezarán y una roca que hará que caigan». Tropiezan porque no obedecen la palabra, ya que para ello estaban destinados.9Pero ustedes son una familia escogida, son sacerdotes reales y son una nación santa. Son un pueblo que Dios compró para que anuncien sus obras extraordinarias; él fue quien los llamó de las tinieblas a su luz maravillosa.10Ustedes antes ni siquiera eran pueblo, pero ahora son el pueblo de Dios; antes no habían tenido compasión de ustedes, pero ahora ya les tienen compasión.11Queridos hermanos, les pido, como si ustedes fueran extranjeros y estuvieran de paso por este mundo, que se mantengan lejos de los malos deseos que luchan contra la vida.12Vivan entre los que no son creyentes de una manera ejemplar, para que aunque hablen mal de ustedes acusándolos de ser malvados, ellos vean las cosas buenas que ustedes hacen y alaben a Dios en el día en que él les pida cuentas a todos.
Sumisión a los gobernantes y a los superiores
13Por causa del Señor, obedezcan a toda autoridad humana, ya sea al rey porque es el que tiene más autoridad,14o a los gobernadores que él ha puesto para castigar a los que hacen lo malo y para honrar a los que hacen lo bueno.15Lo que Dios quiere es que ustedes hagan el bien, para que los ignorantes y tontos no tengan nada que decir en contra de ustedes.16Pórtense como personas libres que no usan su libertad como pretexto para hacer lo malo, sino que viven como siervos de Dios.17Traten a todos con respeto. Amen a los hermanos, honren a Dios y respeten al rey.18Criados, obedezcan y respeten a sus amos, no sólo a los que son buenos y comprensivos sino también a los que son difíciles de soportar,19pues es digno de elogio que alguien, por ser responsable ante Dios, soporte penas y sufrimientos injustamente.20Pero ustedes no tendrán ningún mérito si los maltratan por hacer lo malo. En cambio, si sufren por hacer lo bueno, eso es algo que a Dios le agrada.21Para esto los llamó, para que así como Cristo sufrió por ustedes y les dio el ejemplo, ustedes sigan sus pasos.22«Cristo no cometió ningún pecado ni engañó jamás a nadie».23Cuando lo insultaban, él no respondía con insultos. Cuando lo hacían sufrir, no los amenazaba, sino que se entregaba a Dios y dejaba que él juzgara con justicia.24Cristo mismo llevó en su cuerpo nuestros pecados a la cruz, para que muramos al pecado y llevemos una vida justa. Cristo fue herido para que ustedes fueran sanados.25Antes ustedes eran como ovejas descarriadas, pero ahora han regresado al Pastor que cuida de sus vidas.

(Is 56:7; Mal 1:11; Ro 12:1; Ro 15:16; 1 Co 3:9; Ef 2:20; Flp 4:18; Heb 3:4; Heb 3:6; Heb 13:15; 1 P 2:9)6For it stands in Scripture: “Behold, I am laying in Zion a stone, a cornerstone chosen and precious, and whoever believes in him will not be put to shame.” (Is 28:16; Ro 9:33; Ro 10:11)7So the honor is for you who believe, but for those who do not believe, “The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone,”[1] (Sal 118:22; 2 Co 2:16)8and “A stone of stumbling, and a rock of offense.” They stumble because they disobey the word, as they were destined to do. (Is 8:14; Ro 9:22; Ro 9:33; Jud 1:4)9But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. (Ex 19:5; Ex 19:6; Dt 7:6; Dt 10:15; Sal 36:9; Is 42:16; Is 43:20; Is 43:21; Is 61:6; Is 66:21; Mal 3:17; Hch 26:18; Ap 1:6; Ap 5:10)10Once you were not a people, but now you are God’s people; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy. (Os 1:6; Os 1:9; Os 2:23; Ro 9:25; Ro 10:19)11Beloved, I urge you as sojourners and exiles to abstain from the passions of the flesh, which wage war against your soul. (Lv 25:23; Ro 13:14; Gl 5:24; Stg 4:1)12Keep your conduct among the Gentiles honorable, so that when they speak against you as evildoers, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day of visitation. (Is 10:3; Mt 5:16; Lc 19:44; 2 Co 8:21; 2 Co 9:13; Gl 1:24; Flp 2:15; Tit 2:8; 1 P 3:16)
Submission to Authority
13Be subject for the Lord’s sake to every human institution,[2] whether it be to the emperor[3] as supreme, (Ro 13:1; Tit 3:1)14or to governors as sent by him to punish those who do evil and to praise those who do good. (Ro 13:3; Ro 13:4)15For this is the will of God, that by doing good you should put to silence the ignorance of foolish people. (1 P 2:12)16Live as people who are free, not using your freedom as a cover-up for evil, but living as servants[4] of God. (Ro 6:22; 1 Co 7:22; Stg 1:25)17Honor everyone. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the emperor. (Pr 24:21; Ro 12:10; Ro 13:7; Heb 13:1)18Servants, be subject to your masters with all respect, not only to the good and gentle but also to the unjust. (Ef 6:5; Col 3:22; 1 Ti 6:1; Tit 2:9)19For this is a gracious thing, when, mindful of God, one endures sorrows while suffering unjustly. (1 P 3:14; 1 P 3:17; 1 P 4:16)20For what credit is it if, when you sin and are beaten for it, you endure? But if when you do good and suffer for it you endure, this is a gracious thing in the sight of God. (1 P 3:17; 1 P 4:13; 1 P 4:16)21For to this you have been called, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, so that you might follow in his steps.
