1 هَذِهِ هِيَ الأَقْوَالُ الَّتِي خَاطَبَ بِها مُوسَى جَمِيعَ الإِسْرَائِيلِيِّينَ الْمُخَيِّمِينَ فِي وَادِي الْعَرَبَةِ، فِي صَحْرَاءِ مُوآبَ شَرْقِيَّ نَهْرِ الأُرْدُنِّ، مُقَابِلَ سُوفٍ، مَا بَيْنَ فَارَانَ وَتُوفَلَ وَلابَانَ وَحَضَيْرُوتَ وَذِي ذَهَبٍ. 2 وَكَانَتِ الرِّحْلَةُ تَسْتَغْرِقُ مِنْ حُورِيبَ عَبْرَ طَرِيقِ جَبَلِ سِعِيرَ إِلَى قَادَشَ بَرْنِيعَ أَحَدَ عَشَرَ يَوْماً. 3 فَفِي الْيَوْمِ الأَوَّلِ مِنَ الشَّهْرِ الْحَادِي عَشَرَ، فِي السَّنَةِ الأَرْبَعِينَ، خَاطَبَ مُوسَى بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ بِكُلِّ مَا أَوْصَاهُ بِهِ الرَّبُّ إِلَيْهِمْ، 4 وَذَلِكَ بَعْدَ هَزِيمَةِ سِيحُونَ مَلِكِ الأَمُورِيِّينَ الْمُقِيمِ فِي حَشْبُونَ، وَعُوجَ مَلِكِ بَاشَانَ السَّاكِنِ فِي عَشْتَارُوثَ فِي إِذْرَعِي. 5 وَابْتَدَأَ مُوسَى فِي أَرْضِ مُوآبَ شَرْقِيَّ نَهْرِ الأُرْدُنِّ يَشْرَحُ الشَّرِيعَةَ قَائِلاً: 6 «لَقَدْ قَالَ الرَّبُّ إِلَهُنَا لَنَا فِي جَبَلِ حُورِيبَ: كَفَاكُمُ الْمُقَامُ فِي هَذَا الْجَبَلِ. 7 تَحَوَّلُوا وَتَقَدَّمُوا وَادْخُلُوا جَبَلَ الأَمُورِيِّينَ وَكُلَّ مَا يَلِيهِ مِنْ وَادِي الْعَرَبَةِ وَالْجَبَلِ وَالسَّهْلِ وَالنَّقَبِ وَسَاحِلِ بَحْرِ أَرْضِ الْكَنْعَانِيِّينَ وَلُبْنَانَ، إِلَى النَّهْرِ الْكَبِيرِ نَهْرِ الْفُرَاتِ. 8 وَانْظُرُوا، فَهَا أَنَا قَدْ وَهَبْتُكُمُ الأَرْضَ، فَادْخُلُوا وَتَمَلَّكُوهَا لأَنِّي أَقْسَمْتُ أَنْ أُعْطِيَهَا لِآبَائِكُمْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَإِسْحَاقَ وَيَعْقُوبَ وَلِنَسْلِهِمْ مِنْ بَعْدِهِمْ».

9 وَقَالَ مُوسَى لِلشَّعْبِ: «لا أَقْدِرُ وَحْدِي أَنْ أَتَحَمَّلَ مَسْؤولِيَّتَكُمْ، 10 فَقَدْ كَثَّرَكُمُ الرَّبُّ إِلَهُكُمْ، وَهَا أَنْتُمْ قَدْ أَصْبَحْتُمُ الْيَوْمَ فِي كَثْرَةِ نُجُومِ السَّمَاءِ. 11 فَلْيَزِدْكُمُ الرَّبُّ إِلَهُ آبَائِكُمْ أَلْفَ مَرَّةٍ وَيُبَارِكْكُمْ كَمَا وَعَدَكُمْ. 12 وَلَكِنْ كَيْفَ يُمْكِنُ أَنْ أَحْمِلَ وَحْدِي مَشَاكِلَكُمْ وَأَثْقَالَكُمْ وَخُصُومَاتِكُمْ؟ 13 فَاخْتَارُوا مِنْ أَسْبَاطِكُمْ رِجَالاً حُكَمَاءَ عُقَلاءَ مِنْ ذَوِي الْمَقَامِ، فَأَجْعَلَهُمْ قَادَةً لَكُمْ.» 14 فَأَجَبْتُمُونِي قَائِلِينَ: «إِنَّ مَا تَقْتَرِحُ عَلَيْنَا أَنْ نَفْعَلَهُ أَمْرٌ صَائِبٌ». 15 فَاخْتَرْتُ رُؤَسَاءَ أَسْبَاطِكُمْ رِجَالاً حُكَمَاءَ مِنْ ذَوِي الْمَقَامِ، وَأَقَمْتُهُمْ قَادَةً عَلَيْكُمْ، فَكَانُوا رُؤَسَاءَ أُلُوفٍ وَمِئَاتٍ وَخَمَاسِينَ وَعَشَرَاتٍ، وَعُرَفَاءَ لأَسْبَاطِكُمْ. 16 وَأَمَرْتُ قُضَاتَكُمْ آنَئِذٍ قَائِلاً: اسْتَمِعُوا إِلَى الْخُصُومَاتِ النَّاشِبَةِ بَيْنَ إِخْوَتِكُمْ وَاقْضُوا بِالْعَدْلِ بَيْنَ الإِسْرَائِيلِيِّ وَأَخِيهِ أَوْ بَيْنَ الإِسْرَائِيلِيِّ وَالنَّزِيلِ. 17 لَا تُحَابُوا فِي الْقَضَاءِ وَاسْتَمِعُوا لِلصَّغِيرِ كَمَا تَسْتَمِعُونَ لِلْكَبِيرِ. لَا تَهَابُوا إِنْسَاناً، لأَنَّ الْقَضَاءَ لِلهِ. وَمَا يَصْعُبُ عَلَيْكُمْ مِنْ أَمْرٍ تَرْفَعُونَهُ إِلَيَّ فَأَقْضِي فِيهِ. 18 وَأَوْصَيْتُكُمْ فِي ذَلِكَ الْوَقْتِ بِجَمِيعِ الأُمُورِ الَّتِي يَجِبُ أَنْ تُجْرُوهَا.

19 ثُمَّ ارْتَحَلْنَا بِمُوْجِبِ أَمْرِ الرَّبِّ مِنْ جَبَلِ حُورِيبَ مُجْتَازِينَ تِلْكَ الصَّحْرَاءَ الْعَظِيمَةَ الْمَخُوفَةَ الَّتِي رَأَيْتُمُوهَا، مُتَّجِهِينَ نَحْوَ بِلادِ الأَمُورِيِّينَ الْجَبَلِيَّةِ، إِلَى أَنْ أَقْبَلْنَا عَلَى قَادَشَ بَرْنِيعَ. 20 فَقُلْتُ لَكُمْ: هَا قَدْ جِئْتُمْ إِلَى بِلادِ الأَمُورِيِّينَ الْجَبَلِيَّةِ الَّتِي وَهَبَهَا لَنَا الرَّبُّ إِلَهُنَا، 21 فَانْظُرُوا لأَنَّ الرَّبَّ إِلَهَكُمْ قَدْ أَعْطَاكُمُ الأَرْضَ، فَاصْعَدُوا وَاسْتَوْلُوا عَلَيْهَا كَمَا وَعَدَ الرَّبُّ إِلَهُ آبَائِكُمْ. لَا تَخَافُوا وَلا تَرْتَعِبُوا. 22 فَتَقَدَّمْتُمْ إِلَيَّ جَمِيعُكُمْ وَقُلْتُمْ: دَعْنَا نُرْسِلُ قَوْماً لِيَتَجَسَّسُوا الأَرْضَ لَنَا، ثُمَّ يُوَافُونَا بِنَبَإِ الطَّرِيقِ الَّتِي نَسْلُكُهَا وَالْمُدُنِ الَّتِي نَجْتَازُ بِها. 23 فَرَاقَنِي الاقْتِرَاحُ، وَانْتَخَبْتُ مِنْكُمُ اثْنَيْ عَشَرَ رَجُلاً، وَاحِداً مِنْ كُلِّ سِبْطٍ. 24 فَاخْتَرَقُوا مَسَالِكَ الْجِبَالِ حَتَّى وَصَلُوا وَادِي أَشْكُولَ، فَاسْتَكْشَفُوهُ، 25 وَقَطَفُوا مِنْ ثِمَارِ الأَرْضِ وَحَمَلُوهَا إِلَيْنَا، وَقَالُوا: الأَرْضُ الَّتِي وَهَبَهَا لَنَا الرَّبُّ إِلَهُنَا أَرْضٌ جَيِّدَةٌ.

26 لَكِنَّكُمْ تَقَاعَسْتُمْ عَنِ الصُّعُودِ إِلَيْهَا وَعَصَيْتُمْ أَمْرَ الرَّبِّ إِلَهِكُمْ، 27 وَتَذَمَّرْتُمْ فِي خِيَامِكُمْ قَائِلِينَ: لأَنَّ الرَّبَّ يَكْرَهُنَا أَخْرَجَنَا مِنْ أَرْضِ مِصْرَ لِيُوْقِعَنَا فِي أَيْدِي الأَمُورِيِّينَ وَيُهْلِكَنَا. 28 فَإِلَى أَيْنَ نَذْهَبُ؟ لَقَدْ أَوْهَنَ إِخْوَتُنَا قُلُوبَنَا عِنْدَمَا أَخْبَرُونَا أَنَّ أَهْلَ الأَرْضِ أَعْظَمُ مِنَّا وَأَكْثَرُ طُولاً، وَمُدُنَهُمْ عَظِيمَةٌ تَبْلُغُ حُصُونُهَا عَنَانَ السَّمَاءِ، وَقَدْ شَاهَدْنَا هُنَاكَ بَنِي عَنَاقَ أَيْضاً. 29 فَقُلْتُ لَكُمْ: لَا تَجْزَعُوا وَلا تَخَافُوا مِنْهُمْ، 30 لأَنَّ الرَّبَّ إِلَهَكُمُ السَّائِرَ أَمَامَكُمْ هُوَ يُحَارِبُ عَنْكُمْ كَمَا رَأَيْتُمُوهُ مَعَكُمْ فِي مِصْرَ. 31 كَذَلِكَ شَهِدْتُمْ فِي الصَّحْرَاءِ كَيْفَ حَمَلَكُمُ الرَّبُّ إِلَهُكُمْ كَمَا يَحْمِلُ الإِنْسَانُ ابْنَهُ، فِي كُلِّ الطَّرِيقِ الَّتِي سَلَكْتُمُوهَا، حَتَّى أَقْبَلْتُمْ إِلَى هَذَا الْمَكَانِ. 32 وَلَكِنْ عَلَى الرَّغْمِ مِنْ ذَلِكَ فَإِنَّكُمْ لَمْ تَثِقُوا بِالَّربِّ إِلَهِكُمُ 33 السَّائِرِ أَمَامَكُمْ فِي رِحْلَتِكُمْ، لِيَلْتَمِسَ لَكُمْ مَكَاناً تَنْزِلُونَ فِيهِ. فَكَانَ يَقُودُكُمْ فِي عَمُودِ نَارٍ لَيْلاً وَفِي عَمُودِ سَحَابٍ نَهَاراً. 34 وَسَمِعَ الرَّبُّ تَذَمُّرَكُمْ فَسَخَطَ عَلَيْكُمْ وَأَقْسَمَ قَائِلاً: 35 لَنْ يَرَى إِنْسَانٌ مِنْ هَذَا الْجِيلِ الشِّرِّيرِ الأَرْضَ الْجَيِّدَةَ الَّتِي أَقْسَمْتُ أَنْ أَهَبَهَا لِآبَائِكُمْ. 36 إِلّا كَالِبَ بْنَ يَفُنَّةَ، فَهُوَ يَرَاهَا وَأُوَرِّثُهُ هُوَ وَبَنِيهِ الأَرْضَ الَّتِي وَطِئَهَا، لأَنَّهُ أَطَاعَ الرَّبَّ مِنْ كُلِّ قَلْبِهِ. 37 كَمَا غَضِبَ الرَّبُّ عَلَيَّ بِسَبَبِكُمْ قَائِلاً: وَأَنْتَ أَيْضاً لَنْ تَدْخُلَ الأَرْضَ. 38 إِنَّمَا يَشُوعُ بْنُ نُونٍ الْمَاثِلُ أَمَامَكَ هُوَ يَدْخُلُهَا فَشَجِّعْهُ لأَنَّهُ هُوَ الَّذِي يُوَزِّعُهَا عَلَى الإِسْرَائيِليِّينَ. 39 أَمَّا أَطْفَالُكُمُ الَّذِينَ ادَّعَيْتُمْ أَنَّهُمْ يُصْبِحُونَ غَنِيمَةً، وَصِغَارُكُمُ الَّذِينَ لَا يُمَيِّزُونَ بَعْدُ الْخَيْرَ وَالشَّرَّ، فَهُمْ يَدْخُلُونَ إِلَى هُنَاكَ وَلَهُمْ أَهَبُ الأَرْضَ وَهُمْ يَرِثُونَهَا. 40 وَأَمَّا أَنْتُمْ فَتَحَوَّلُوا وَارْتَحِلُوا إِلَى الصَّحْرَاءِ عَلَى مُحَاذَاةِ طَرِيقِ الْبَحْرِ الأَحْمَرِ. 41 فَأَجَبْتُمْ وَقُلْتُمْ لِي: لَقْدْ أَخْطَأْنَا إِلَى الرَّبِّ، وَنَحْنُ صَاعِدُونَ إِلَى الْحَرْبِ حَسَبَ كُلِّ مَا أَمَرَنَا بِهِ الرَّبُّ إِلَهُنَا. وَحَمَلَ كُلُّ وَاحِدٍ سِلاحَهُ، مَسْتَخِفّاً بِمَصَاعِبِ ارْتِقَاءِ الْجِبَالِ. 42 فَأَمَرَنِي الرَّبُّ: قُلْ لَهُمْ لَا تَصْعَدُوا وَلا تُحَارِبُوا، لأَنِّي لَسْتُ فِي وَسَطِكُمْ، لِئَلّا تَنْهَزِمُوا أَمَامَ أَعْدَائِكُمْ. 43 فَكَلَّمْتُكُمْ وَلَكِنَّكُمْ لَمْ تَسْمَعُوا، بَلْ عَصَيْتُمْ أَمْرَ الرَّبِّ وَتَمَرَّدْتُمْ وَصَعِدْتُمْ إِلَى الأَرَاضِي الْجَبَلِيَّةِ. 44 فَانْدَفَعَ الأَمُورِيُّونَ الْمُسْتَوْطِنُونَ فِي الأَرَاضِي الْجَبَلِيَّةِ لِلِقَائِكُمْ، وَطَارَدُوكُمْ كَمَا يُطَارِدُ النَّحْلُ، وَهَزَمُوكُمْ فِي سِعِيرَ حَتَّى تُخُومِ حُرْمَةَ. 45 فَرَجَعْتُمْ وَنُحْتُمْ أَمَامَ الرَّبِّ، وَلَمْ يَسْمَعِ الرَّبُّ لِصَوْتِكُمْ وَلا أَنْصَتَ إِلَيْكُمْ. 46 وَمَكَثْتُمْ فِي قَادَشَ أَيَّاماً كَثِيرَةً، أَيْ طَوَالَ الْفَتْرَةِ الَّتِي بَقِيتُمْ فِيهَا هُنَاكَ.

Mosè rievoca le parole del Signore a Oreb

1 Queste sono le parole che Mosè rivolse a Israele di là dal Giordano, nel deserto, nella pianura di fronte a Suf, tra Paran, Tofel, Laban, Aserot e Di-Zaab. 2 Vi sono undici giornate dall’Oreb^[1], per la via del monte Seir, fino a Cades-Barnea. 3 Il quarantesimo anno, l’undicesimo mese, il primo giorno del mese, Mosè parlò ai figli d’Israele e disse tutto quello che il Signore gli aveva ordinato di dire loro. 4 Questo avvenne dopo che egli ebbe sconfitto Sicon, re degli Amorei, che abitava in Chesbon, e Og, re di Basan, che abitava in Astarot e in Edrei. 5 Di là dal Giordano, nel paese di Moab, Mosè cominciò a spiegare questa legge, e disse: 6 «Il Signore, il nostro Dio, ci parlò in Oreb e ci disse: “Voi siete rimasti abbastanza in queste montagne; 7 voltatevi, partite, e andate nella regione montuosa degli Amorei e in tutte le vicinanze, nella pianura, sui monti, nella regione bassa, nella regione meridionale, sulla costa del mare, nel paese dei Cananei e nel Libano, fino al gran fiume Eufrate. 8 Ecco, io ho messo davanti a voi il paese; entrate, prendete possesso del paese che il Signore giurò di dare ai vostri padri, Abraamo, Isacco e Giacobbe, e alla loro discendenza dopo di loro”. 9 In quel tempo io vi dissi: “Io non posso da solo sostenere il peso di questo popolo. 10 Il Signore vostro Dio vi ha moltiplicati, e oggi siete numerosi come le stelle del cielo. 11 Il Signore, il Dio dei vostri padri, vi aumenti anche mille volte di più e vi benedica come vi ha promesso di fare! 12 Ma come posso io, da solo, portare il vostro carico, il vostro peso e le vostre liti? 13 Prendete nelle vostre tribù degli uomini savi, intelligenti e conosciuti, e io li stabilirò come vostri capi”. 14 Voi mi rispondeste: “È bene che facciamo quello che tu proponi”. 15 Allora presi i capi delle vostre tribù, uomini saggi e conosciuti, e li stabilii sopra di voi come capi di migliaia, capi di centinaia, capi di cinquantine, capi di decine, e come responsabili nelle vostre tribù. 16 In quel tempo diedi quest’ordine ai vostri giudici: “Ascoltate le cause dei vostri fratelli^[2], e giudicate con giustizia le questioni che uno può avere con il fratello o con lo straniero che abita da lui. 17 Nei vostri giudizi non avrete riguardi personali; darete ascolto al piccolo come al grande; non temerete alcun uomo, poiché il giudizio appartiene a Dio; e le cause troppo difficili per voi le presenterete a me e io le ascolterò”. 18 Così, in quel tempo, io vi ordinai tutte le cose che dovevate fare.

Incredulità a Cades-Barnea

19 «Poi partimmo da Oreb e attraversammo tutto quel grande e spaventevole deserto che avete visto, dirigendoci verso la regione montuosa degli Amorei, come il Signore, il nostro Dio, ci aveva ordinato di fare, e giungemmo a Cades-Barnea. 20 Allora vi dissi: “Siete arrivati nella regione montuosa degli Amorei, che il Signore, il nostro Dio, ci dà. 21 Ecco, il Signore, il tuo Dio, ha messo davanti a te il paese; sali, prendine possesso, come il Signore, il Dio dei tuoi padri, ti ha detto; non temere e non ti spaventare”. 22 E voi tutti vi avvicinaste a me e diceste: “Mandiamo degli uomini davanti a noi, che ci esplorino il paese, ci riferiscano qualcosa sulla strada che dovremo percorrere e sulle città alle quali dovremo arrivare”. 23 La cosa mi piacque e presi dodici uomini in mezzo a voi, uno per tribù. 24 Quelli si incamminarono, salirono sui monti, scesero nella valle di Escol ed esplorarono il paese. 25 Presero con le loro mani dei frutti del paese, ce li portarono e ci fecero la loro relazione dicendo: “Quello che il Signore, il nostro Dio, ci dà, è un paese buono”. 26 Ma voi non voleste andare e vi ribellaste all’ordine del Signore, del vostro Dio; 27 mormoraste nelle vostre tende e diceste: “Il Signore ci odia; per questo ci ha fatto uscire dal paese d’Egitto per darci in mano agli Amorei e per distruggerci. 28 Dove andiamo noi? I nostri fratelli ci hanno fatto perdere il coraggio, dicendo: ‘Quella gente è più grande e più alta di noi; vi sono grandi città fortificate fino al cielo; e vi abbiamo visto perfino degli Anachiti^[3]’”. 29 Io vi dissi: “Non vi spaventate e non abbiate paura di loro. 30 Il Signore, il vostro Dio, che vi precede, combatterà egli stesso per voi, come ha fatto tante volte sotto gli occhi vostri in Egitto 31 e nel deserto, dove hai visto che il Signore, il tuo Dio, ti ha portato come un uomo porta suo figlio, per tutto il cammino che avete fatto, finché siete arrivati in questo luogo”. 32 Nonostante questo, non aveste fiducia nel Signore vostro Dio, 33 che vi precedeva nel vostro cammino per cercarvi un luogo dove piantare le tende: di notte nel fuoco per mostrarvi la via per la quale dovevate andare, e di giorno nella nuvola. 34 Il Signore udì le vostre parole, si adirò gravemente e giurò dicendo: 35 “Certo, nessuno degli uomini di questa malvagia generazione vedrà il buon paese che ho giurato di dare ai vostri padri, 36 salvo Caleb, figlio di Gefunne. A lui e ai suoi figli darò la terra sulla quale egli ha camminato, perché ha pienamente seguito il Signore”. 37 Anche contro di me il Signore si adirò per causa vostra, e disse: “Neanche tu vi entrerai. 38 Giosuè, figlio di Nun, che ti serve, vi entrerà; fortificalo, perché egli metterà Israele in possesso di questo paese. 39 I vostri bambini, dei quali avete detto: ‘Diventeranno una preda!’, i vostri figli, che oggi non conoscono né il bene né il male, sono quelli che vi entreranno; a loro darò il paese e saranno essi che lo possederanno. 40 Ma voi tornate indietro e avviatevi verso il deserto, in direzione del mar Rosso”. 41 Allora voi rispondeste: “Abbiamo peccato contro il Signore! Noi saliremo e combatteremo come il Signore, il nostro Dio, ci ha ordinato”. Ognuno di voi prese le armi, pronti a salire verso i monti. 42 Il Signore mi disse: “Di’ loro: ‘Non salite e non combattete, perché io non sono in mezzo a voi; voi sareste sconfitti davanti ai vostri nemici’”. 43 Io ve lo dissi, ma voi non mi deste ascolto; anzi, foste ribelli all’ordine del Signore, foste presuntuosi e vi metteste a salire verso i monti. 44 Allora gli Amorei, che abitano quella zona montuosa, uscirono contro di voi, vi inseguirono come fanno le api, e vi batterono da Seir fino a Corma. 45 Voi tornaste e piangeste davanti al Signore, ma il Signore non diede ascolto alla vostra voce e non vi porse orecchio. 46 Così rimaneste in Cades molti giorni; voi sapete bene quanti giorni vi siete rimasti.

1 These are the words that Moses spoke to all Israel beyond the Jordan in the wilderness, in the Arabah opposite Suph, between Paran and Tophel, Laban, Hazeroth, and Dizahab. 5 Beyond the Jordan, in the land of Moab, Moses undertook to explain this law, saying, (تث 29:1) 6 “The LORD our God said to us in Horeb, ‘You have stayed long enough at this mountain. 18 And I commanded you at that time all the things that you should do.

Israel’s Refusal to Enter the Land

19 “Then we set out from Horeb and went through all that great and terrifying wilderness that you saw, on the way to the hill country of the Amorites, as the LORD our God commanded us. And we came to Kadesh-barnea. (عد 10:12; تث 2:1; تث 8:15; تث 32:10; إر 2:6)

Go up, take possession, as the LORD, the God of your fathers, has told you. The Penalty for Israel’s Rebellion

34 “And the LORD heard your words and was angered, and he swore, 35 ‘Not one of these men of this evil generation shall see the good land that I swore to give to your fathers, (عد 14:20; تث 2:15) 36 except Caleb the son of Jephunneh. He shall see it, and to him and to his children I will give the land on which he has trodden, because he has wholly followed the LORD!’ (عد 14:30; يش 14:9) 37 Even with me the LORD was angry on your account and said, ‘You also shall not go in there.
