تَرْنِيمَةُ الْمَصَاعِدِ لِسُلَيْمَانَ

1 إِنْ لَمْ يَبْنِ الرَّبُّ الْبَيْتَ، فَبَاطِلاً يَتْعَبُ الْبَنَّاؤُونَ. وَإِنْ لَمْ يَحْرُسِ الرَّبُّ الْمَدِينَةَ فَبَاطِلاً يَسْهَرُ الْحَارِسُ. 

2 بَاطِلاً تَكِدُّونَ مِنَ الْفَجْرِ الْمُبَكِّرِ وَإِلَى وَقْتٍ مُتَأَخِّرٍ مِنَ اللَّيْلِ فِي سَبِيلِ لُقْمَةِ الْعَيْشِ، فَإِنَّ الرَّبَّ يَسُدُّ حَاجَةَ أَحِبَّائِهِ حَتَّى وَهُمْ نِيَامٌ. 

3 هُوَذَا الْبَنُونَ مِيرَاثٌ مِنْ عِنْدِ الرَّبِّ، وَالأَوْلادُ ثَوَابٌ مِنْهُ. 

4 أَبْنَاءُ الشَّبِيبَةِ مِثْلُ سِهَامٍ فِي يَدِ جَبَّارٍ مُتَمَرِّسٍ. 

5 طُوبَى لِلَّذِي مَلأَ جُعْبَتَهُ مِنْهُمْ، فَإِنَّهُمْ لَا يَخِيبُونَ حِينَ يُوَاجِهُونَ الخُصُومَ فِي مَجْلِسِ القَضَاءِ عِنْدَ بَوَّابَةِ الْمَدِينَةِ.

Unless the Lord Builds the House

A Song of Ascents. Of Solomon.

1 Unless the LORD builds the house, those who build it labor in vain. Unless the LORD watches over the city, the watchman stays awake in vain. (مز 121:4) 

2 It is in vain that you rise up early and go late to rest, eating the bread of anxious toil; for he gives to his beloved sleep. (تك 3:17; تك 3:19; مز 60:5; مر 4:26; مر 4:27) 

3 Behold, children are a heritage from the LORD, the fruit of the womb a reward. (تك 33:5; تث 28:4; مز 132:11) 

4 Like arrows in the hand of a warrior are the children of one’s youth. (مز 120:4) 

5 Blessed is the man who fills his quiver with them! He shall not be put to shame when he speaks with his enemies in the gate. (أي 5:4)
