1»Tröstet, tröstet mein Volk!« spricht euer Gott;2»redet herzlich zu (meiner Stadt) Jerusalem und ruft ihr zu, daß ihr Kriegsdienst[1] ein Ende erreicht hat, weil ihre Schuld abgetragen ist, weil sie von der Hand des HERRN doppelte Strafe empfangen hat für alle ihre Sünden.«
Bahnt dem Herrn einen Weg durch die Wüste!
3Horch! Ein Ruf erschallt: »In der Wüste bahnet dem HERRN einen Weg, ebnet in der Steppe eine Straße für unsern Gott!4Jede Vertiefung soll erhöht[2] und jeder Berg und Hügel abgetragen werden; was uneben ist, soll zu glattem Weg und die Felsrücken zur Niederung werden,5damit die Herrlichkeit des HERRN sich offenbare und alles Fleisch[3] insgesamt sie sehe; denn der Mund des HERRN hat gesprochen.«
Nichtigkeit des Menschen, aber ewiger Bestand des Wortes Gottes
6Horch! Eine Stimme erschallt: »Rufe[4]!« Da fragte ich: »Was soll ich rufen[5]?« »Alles Fleisch ist Gras und all seine Schönheit wie die Blume des Feldes:7das Gras verdorrt, die Blume verwelkt, wenn der Hauch des HERRN sie anweht – ja, Gras ist das Volk!8Das Gras verdorrt, die Blume verwelkt, aber das Wort unsers Gottes bleibt ewig bestehen.«
Zions Siegeslied: Der allmächtige und treue Gott ist da
9Auf einen hohen[6] Berg steige hinauf, Zion, als Freudenbotin! Erhebe deine Stimme mit aller Macht, Jerusalem, als Freudenbotin! Erhebe sie, fürchte dich nicht! Verkünde den Städten Judas: »Sehet da, euer Gott!10Sehet, Gott der HERR kommt als ein Starker[7], und sein Arm verleiht ihm den Sieg; sehet, sein Lohn kommt mit ihm, und sein Erwerb[8] schreitet vor ihm her!11Wie ein Hirt wird seine Herde er weiden: die Lämmer wird er auf seinen Arm nehmen und sie im Busen[9] seines Gewandes tragen, die Mutterschafe sanft[10] leiten.«
Gottes Größe in der Schöpfung
12Wer hat mit seiner hohlen Hand die Wasser[11] gemessen und des Himmels Maß mit der Spanne seiner Hand festgesetzt[12]? Wer hat den Staub der Erde in den Scheffel gefaßt, wer die Berge mit der Brückenwaage gewogen und die Hügel mit der Handwaage?13Wer hat das Maß des Geistes des HERRN festgestellt und wer als sein Ratgeber ihn unterwiesen?14Mit wem hat er sich beraten, daß der ihm Einsicht verleihen möchte und ihn über den rechten Weg belehrte? Daß er ihm Erkenntnis beibrächte und ihm den Weg der vollen Einsicht wiese?15Siehe, Völker sind wie ein Tropfen am Eimer und gelten ihm wie ein Stäubchen auf der Waagschale! Siehe, Meeresländer[13] sind ihm wie ein Sandkorn, das er aufhebt,16und der Libanon reicht nicht hin zum Brennholz, und sein Getier genügt nicht zum Brandopfer (für ihn).
Nichtigkeit aller Völker, aller Götzen, aller Dinge im Himmel und auf der Erde
17Alle Völker sind wie ein Nichts vor ihm, als nicht vorhanden und als eine Null werden sie von ihm geachtet.18Mit wem wollt ihr also Gott vergleichen und was als Ebenbild ihm an die Seite stellen?19Etwa ein Götzenbild, das ein Werkmeister gegossen und das ein Goldschmied mit Gold überzogen und Silberkettchen darangelötet hat?20Wer für ein solches Weihgeschenk zu arm ist, wählt sich ein Stück Holz aus, das nicht morsch wird, sucht sich einen geschickten Künstler, damit er ihm ein Gottesbild anfertige, das nicht wackelt.21Wißt ihr’s denn nicht? Habt ihr nichts davon gehört? Ist es euch nicht von Anbeginn an verkündet worden? Habt ihr nicht begriffen, was die Grundfesten der Erde lehren?22Er ist es, der da thront über dem Rund der Erde, während ihre Bewohner winzig wie Heuschrecken sind; er ist es, der den Himmel wie einen Schleier ausgespannt und ihn wie ein Zelt zum Wohnen ausgebreitet hat;23er ist es, der Fürsten[14] in nichts verwandelt und Herrscher der Erde in Armseligkeit versetzt:24kaum sind sie gepflanzt, kaum sind sie gesät, kaum hat sich ihr Stamm in die Erde eingewurzelt, da bläst er sie an, daß sie verdorren, und ein Sturmwind rafft sie hinweg wie Spreu.25»Wem wollt ihr mich also gleichstellen, daß ich ihm gleich wäre?« fragt der Heilige.26Hebt eure Augen zum Himmel empor und schauet: Wer hat diese da geschaffen? Er ist es, der ihr Heer nach der Zahl[15] herausführt, der sie alle mit Namen ruft[16], vor dem wegen der Größe seiner Macht und der Stärke seiner Kraft kein einziges (Gestirn) ausbleibt.27Warum sagst du (also), Jakob, und warum behauptest du, Israel: »Verborgen ist dem HERRN mein Geschick, und mein Recht bleibt bei meinem Gott unbeachtet?«28Weißt du es denn nicht, oder hast du es nicht gehört? Ein ewiger Gott ist der HERR, der Schöpfer der Erde. Er wird nicht müde und wird nicht matt, unergründlich ist seine Einsicht.29Er verleiht dem Ermatteten Kraft und gewährt dem Ohnmächtigen Stärke in Fülle.30Mögen Jünglinge müde und matt werden und junge Männer strauchelnd zusammenbrechen –31die auf den HERRN harren, gewinnen neue Kraft, daß ihnen neue Schwingen[17] wachsen wie den Adlern, daß sie laufen und nicht müde werden, daß sie wandern und nicht ermatten.
1Comfort, comfort my people, says your God. (Jes 51,12; Lk 2,25)2Speak tenderly to Jerusalem, and cry to her that her warfare[1] is ended, that her iniquity is pardoned, that she has received from the Lord’s hand double for all her sins. (2Chr 36,22; Jer 25,12; Hos 2,14)3A voice cries:[2] “In the wilderness prepare the way of the Lord; make straight in the desert a highway for our God. (Ps 68,4; Jes 57,14; Mal 3,1; Mt 3,3; Mk 1,3; Lk 3,4; Joh 1,23)4Every valley shall be lifted up, and every mountain and hill be made low; the uneven ground shall become level, and the rough places a plain. (Jes 49,11; Lk 3,5)5And the glory of the Lord shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together, for the mouth of the Lord has spoken.” (Jes 1,20; Lk 3,6)
The Word of God Stands Forever
6A voice says, “Cry!” And I said,[3] “What shall I cry?” All flesh is grass, and all its beauty[4] is like the flower of the field. (Hi 14,2; Ps 102,11; Ps 103,15; Jak 1,10; 1Petr 1,24)7The grass withers, the flower fades when the breath of the Lord blows on it; surely the people are grass.8The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God will stand forever. (Jak 1,11)
The Greatness of God
9Go on up to a high mountain, O Zion, herald of good news;[5] lift up your voice with strength, O Jerusalem, herald of good news;[6] lift it up, fear not; say to the cities of Judah, “Behold your God!” (Jes 52,7)10Behold, the Lord God comes with might, and his arm rules for him; behold, his reward is with him, and his recompense before him. (Jes 59,16; Jes 62,11; Lk 11,22; Offb 22,12)11He will tend his flock like a shepherd; he will gather the lambs in his arms; he will carry them in his bosom, and gently lead those that are with young. (4Mo 11,12; Hes 34,23; Sach 11,7; Mt 18,12; Lk 15,5; Joh 10,11; Joh 21,15; Apg 20,28)12Who has measured the waters in the hollow of his hand and marked off the heavens with a span, enclosed the dust of the earth in a measure and weighed the mountains in scales and the hills in a balance? (Spr 30,4)13Who has measured[7] the Spirit of the Lord, or what man shows him his counsel? (Röm 11,34; 1Kor 2,16)14Whom did he consult, and who made him understand? Who taught him the path of justice, and taught him knowledge, and showed him the way of understanding? (Hi 21,22)15Behold, the nations are like a drop from a bucket, and are accounted as the dust on the scales; behold, he takes up the coastlands like fine dust. (Jes 29,5; Jes 41,1)16Lebanon would not suffice for fuel, nor are its beasts enough for a burnt offering. (Ps 50,10)17All the nations are as nothing before him, they are accounted by him as less than nothing and emptiness. (Ps 62,9; Jes 41,12; Dan 4,35)18To whom then will you liken God, or what likeness compare with him? (Jes 40,25; Jes 46,5; Hos 13,2; Apg 17,29)19An idol! A craftsman casts it, and a goldsmith overlays it with gold and casts for it silver chains. (Jes 40,18)20He who is too impoverished for an offering chooses wood[8] that will not rot; he seeks out a skillful craftsman to set up an idol that will not move. (Jes 44,9; Jes 46,6; Jer 10,3)21Do you not know? Do you not hear? Has it not been told you from the beginning? Have you not understood from the foundations of the earth? (Jes 40,28; Apg 14,17; Röm 1,19)22It is he who sits above the circle of the earth, and its inhabitants are like grasshoppers; who stretches out the heavens like a curtain, and spreads them like a tent to dwell in; (4Mo 13,33; Hi 9,8; Ps 104,2)23who brings princes to nothing, and makes the rulers of the earth as emptiness. (Hi 12,21; Ps 107,40)24Scarcely are they planted, scarcely sown, scarcely has their stem taken root in the earth, when he blows on them, and they wither, and the tempest carries them off like stubble. (Ps 83,13; Jes 41,2)25To whom then will you compare me, that I should be like him? says the Holy One. (Jes 40,18)26Lift up your eyes on high and see: who created these? He who brings out their host by number, calling them all by name; by the greatness of his might and because he is strong in power, not one is missing. (Ps 147,4)27Why do you say, O Jacob, and speak, O Israel, “My way is hidden from the Lord, and my right is disregarded by my God”? (Jes 49,4; Jes 49,14)28Have you not known? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable. (Ps 121,4; Ps 147,5)29He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might he increases strength.30Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted;31but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint. (2Mo 19,4; Ps 103,5)
