1 David ließ dann nochmals alle Auserlesenen in Israel zusammenkommen, 30000 Mann; 2 dann machte er sich auf und zog mit dem gesamten Volke, das bei ihm war, nach Baala in Juda, um von dort die Lade Gottes heraufzuholen, die den Namen führt nach Gott, dem HERRN der Heerscharen, der über den Cheruben thront. 3 Man lud die Lade Gottes auf einen neuen Wagen und brachte sie so hinweg aus dem Hause Abinadabs, das auf der Anhöhe lag (1.Sam 7,1); und zwar lenkten Ussa und Ahjo, die Söhne Abinadabs, den neuen Wagen 4 und brachten die Lade weg aus dem Hause Abinadabs, das auf der Anhöhe lag, indem Ussa neben der Lade Gottes herging, während Ahjo vor der Lade einherschritt. 5 David aber und alle Israeliten tanzten vor dem HERRN her mit Aufbietung aller Kräfte und mit Liedern unter Begleitung von Zithern und Harfen, Handpauken, Schellen und Zimbeln. 6 Als sie nun so zur Tenne Nachons gekommen waren, griff Ussa mit der Hand nach der Lade Gottes und hielt sie fest, weil die Rinder zu Fall gekommen waren. 7 Da entbrannte der Zorn des HERRN gegen Ussa, und Gott schlug ihn dort wegen seiner Verfehlung, so daß er dort neben der Lade Gottes starb. 8 Da wurde David tief betrübt, daß der HERR einen solchen Schlag gegen Ussa geführt hatte; daher nannte man jenen Ort Perez-Ussa^[1] bis auf den heutigen Tag. 9 David aber geriet an jenem Tage in Furcht vor dem HERRN, so daß er ausrief: »Wie kann da die Lade des HERRN zu mir kommen?!« 10 Weil David also die Lade des HERRN nicht zu sich in die Davidsstadt bringen wollte, ließ er sie abseits in das Haus des Gathiters Obed-Edom schaffen. 11 So blieb denn die Lade des HERRN ein Vierteljahr lang im Hause des Gathiters Obed-Edom stehen; der HERR aber segnete Obed-Edom und sein ganzes Haus. 12 Als man nun dem König David berichtete, der HERR habe das Haus Obed-Edoms und sein ganzes Besitztum um der Lade Gottes willen gesegnet, da ging David hin und holte die Lade Gottes voller Freude aus dem Hause Obed-Edoms nach der Davidsstadt hinauf 13 und opferte dabei, als die Träger der Lade des HERRN sechs Schritte gegangen waren, ein Rind und ein Mastkalb. 14 Auch tanzte David mit Aufbietung aller Kraft vor dem HERRN her, wobei er nur mit einem leinenen Schulterkleid umgürtet war. 15 So brachte David mit allen Israeliten die Lade des HERRN unter Jauchzen und Posaunenschall (nach Jerusalem) hinauf. 16 Da begab es sich, als die Lade des HERRN in die Davidsstadt einzog, daß Sauls Tochter Michal zum Fenster hinausschaute; als sie nun den König David so vor dem HERRN her hüpfen und tanzen sah, empfand sie Verachtung für ihn in ihrem Herzen. 17 Nachdem man dann die Lade des HERRN hineingebracht und sie an ihren Platz inmitten des Zeltes, das von David für sie aufgeschlagen worden war, niedergesetzt hatte, brachte David Brand- und Heilsopfer vor dem HERRN dar, 18 segnete dann, als er mit der Darbringung der Brand- und Heilsopfer fertig war, das Volk im Namen des HERRN der Heerscharen 19 und ließ unter das ganze Volk, an sämtliche Israeliten, sowohl an Männer wie an Frauen, an einen jeden einen Brotkuchen, ein Stück Fleisch und einen Rosinenkuchen austeilen. Darauf kehrte jedermann aus dem Volk nach Hause zurück. 20 Als nun David heimkehrte, um seine Familie zu begrüßen, trat Sauls Tochter Michal ihm mit den Worten entgegen: »Wie würdevoll hat sich heute der König von Israel benommen, indem er sich heute vor den Augen der Mägde seiner Untertanen entblößt hat, wie es sonst nur gemeine Leute tun!« 21 Da erwiderte David der Michal: »Vor dem HERRN, der mich vor deinem Vater und vor dessen ganzem Hause erwählt hat, um mich zum Fürsten über das Volk des HERRN, über Israel, zu bestellen – ja vor dem HERRN will ich tanzen, 22 auch wenn ich mich dadurch noch tiefer erniedrige als diesmal, und will demütig von mir denken; aber bei den Mägden, von denen du redest – bei ihnen werde ich an Ehre gewinnen.« 23 Michal aber, Sauls Tochter, blieb bis an ihren Todestag kinderlos.

The Ark Brought to Jerusalem

1 David again gathered all the chosen men of Israel, thirty thousand. (1Chr 13,6) 2 And David arose and went with all the people who were with him from Baale-judah to bring up from there the ark of God, which is called by the name of the Lord of hosts who sits enthroned on the cherubim. 3 And they carried the ark of God on a new cart and brought it out of the house of Abinadab, which was on the hill. And Uzzah and Ahio,^[1] the sons of Abinadab, were driving the new cart, (1Sam 6,7; 1Sam 7,1) 4 with the ark of God,^[2] and Ahio went before the ark.

5 And David and all the house of Israel were celebrating before the Lord, with songs^[3] and lyres and harps and tambourines and castanets and cymbals. (1Chr 13,8; Ps 150,3) 6 And when they came to the threshing floor of Nacon, Uzzah put out his hand to the ark of God and took hold of it, for the oxen stumbled. (4Mo 4,15; 1Chr 13,9; 1Chr 15,2) 7 And the anger of the Lord was kindled against Uzzah, and God struck him down there because of his error, and he died there beside the ark of God. (1Sam 6,19) 8 And David was angry because the Lord had broken out against Uzzah. And that place is called Perez-uzzah^[4] to this day. 9 And David was afraid of the Lord that day, and he said, “How can the ark of the Lord come to me?” 10 So David was not willing to take the ark of the Lord into the city of David. But David took it aside to the house of Obed-edom the Gittite. (1Chr 15,25) 11 And the ark of the Lord remained in the house of Obed-edom the Gittite three months, and the Lord blessed Obed-edom and all his household. (1Chr 26,5) 12 And it was told King David, “The Lord has blessed the household of Obed-edom and all that belongs to him, because of the ark of God.” So David went and brought up the ark of God from the house of Obed-edom to the city of David with rejoicing. 14 And David danced before the Lord with all his might. And David was wearing a linen ephod. (2Mo 15,20; 1Sam 2,18; Ps 30,11; Ps 150,4)

15 So David and all the house of Israel brought up the ark of the Lord with shouting and with the sound of the horn.

16 As the ark of the Lord came into the city of David, Michal the daughter of Saul looked out of the window and saw King David leaping and dancing before the Lord, and she despised him in her heart. 17 And they brought in the ark of the Lord and set it in its place, inside the tent that David had pitched for it. And David offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before the Lord. (1Kön 8,5; 1Kön 8,62; 1Chr 15,1; 2Chr 1,4; Ps 132,8)

18 And when David had finished offering the burnt offerings and the peace offerings, he blessed the people in the name of the Lord of hosts (1Kön 8,14; 1Kön 8,55) 19 and distributed among all the people, the whole multitude of Israel, both men and women, a cake of bread, a portion of meat,^[5] and a cake of raisins to each one. Then all the people departed, each to his house. (1Chr 16,43) 20 And David returned to bless his household. But Michal the daughter of Saul came out to meet David and said, “How the king of Israel honored himself today, uncovering himself today before the eyes of his servants’ female servants, as one of the vulgar fellows shamelessly uncovers himself!” (Ri 9,4; 1Sam 19,24; 2Sam 6,14; 2Sam 6,16)

21 And David said to Michal, “It was before the Lord, who chose me above your father and above all his house, to appoint me as prince^[6] over Israel, the people of the Lord—and I will celebrate before the Lord. (1Sam 13,14; 1Sam 15,28) 22 I will make myself yet more contemptible than this, and I will be abased in your^[7] eyes. But by the female servants of whom you have spoken, by them I shall be held in honor.” 23 And Michal the daughter of Saul had no child to the day of her death.
