1Da erwiderte der HERR dem Mose: »Siehe, ich mache dich für den Pharao zu einem Gott, und dein Bruder Aaron soll dein Prophet sein. (2Mo 4,16)2Du sollst ihm alles sagen, was ich dir auftragen werde, doch dein Bruder Aaron soll mit dem Pharao verhandeln, daß er die Israeliten aus seinem Lande ziehen lasse.3Ich aber will das Herz des Pharaos verhärten, um viele Zeichen und Wunder im Lande Ägypten zu verrichten.4Wenn der Pharao nun auf euch nicht hört, so will ich meine Hand an[1] die Ägypter legen und meine Heerscharen, mein Volk, die Israeliten, aus Ägypten unter gewaltigen Strafgerichten wegführen.5Dann werden die Ägypter zur Erkenntnis kommen, daß ich der HERR bin, wenn ich meine Hand gegen die Ägypter ausgestreckt und die Israeliten aus ihrer Mitte weggeführt habe.«6Da taten Mose und Aaron so, wie der HERR ihnen geboten hatte, genau so taten sie.7Mose war aber achtzig und Aaron dreiundachtzig Jahre alt, als sie mit dem Pharao verhandelten.8Hierauf sagte der HERR zu Mose und zu Aaron:9»Wenn der Pharao euch auffordert, ein Wunder zu eurer Beglaubigung zu verrichten, so sollst du zu Aaron sagen: ›Nimm deinen Stab und wirf ihn vor den Pharao hin!‹, dann wird er zu einer großen Schlange werden.«10Da gingen Mose und Aaron zum Pharao und taten so, wie der HERR ihnen geboten hatte: Aaron warf seinen Stab vor den Pharao und dessen Hofleute hin, und er verwandelte sich in eine große Schlange.11Aber der Pharao ließ auch seinerseits die Weisen und Zauberer kommen, und auch sie, die ägyptischen Zauberkünstler, taten dasselbe vermittels ihrer Geheimkünste:12jeder warf seinen Stab hin, da verwandelten diese sich in Schlangen; jedoch Aarons Stab verschlang ihre Stäbe.13Aber das Herz des Pharaos blieb hart, so daß er nicht auf sie hörte, wie der HERR es vorausgesagt hatte.14Hierauf sagte der HERR zu Mose: »Das Herz des Pharaos ist verstockt: er weigert sich, das Volk ziehen zu lassen.15Begib dich morgen früh zum Pharao – da geht er nämlich an den Fluß – und tritt ihm am Ufer des Nils entgegen; den Stab, der sich in eine Schlange verwandelt hat, nimm in deine Hand16und sage zu ihm: ›Der HERR, der Gott der Hebräer, hat mich zu dir gesandt mit der Weisung: Laß mein Volk ziehen, damit es mir in der Wüste diene! Doch du hast bisher nicht gehorchen wollen.17Daher spricht der HERR so: Daran sollst du erkennen, daß ich der HERR bin: ich werde jetzt mit dem Stabe, den ich hier in der Hand habe, auf das Wasser im Nil schlagen, dann wird es sich in Blut verwandeln,18die Fische im Strom werden sämtlich sterben, und der Strom wird stinkend werden, so daß die Ägypter vor Ekel kein Wasser mehr aus dem Strom trinken werden.‹«19Weiter sagte der HERR zu Mose: »Befiehl dem Aaron: ›Nimm deinen Stab und strecke deine Hand aus über die Gewässer in Ägypten, über seine Stromarme, seine Kanäle und Teiche und über alle seine Wasserbehälter, damit sie zu Blut werden! Und Blut soll überall in Ägypten sein, selbst in den hölzernen und steinernen Gefäßen!‹«20Mose und Aaron taten so, wie der HERR ihnen geboten hatte: Aaron hob den Stab hoch und schlug mit ihm auf das Wasser im Nil vor den Augen des Pharaos und seiner Diener: da verwandelte sich alles Wasser im Strom in Blut;21die Fische im Strom starben sämtlich, und der Strom wurde stinkend, so daß die Ägypter das Wasser aus dem Strom nicht mehr trinken konnten; und das Blut war überall im Land Ägypten.22Aber die ägyptischen Zauberer taten dasselbe vermittels ihrer Geheimkünste; daher blieb das Herz des Pharaos hart, und er hörte nicht auf sie, wie der HERR es vorausgesagt hatte:23der Pharao wandte sich ab und ging nach Hause und nahm sich auch dieses nicht zu Herzen.24Alle Ägypter aber gruben rings um den Nil nach Trinkwasser; denn von dem Nilwasser konnten sie nicht trinken.25So vergingen volle sieben Tage, nachdem der HERR den Strom geschlagen hatte.26Hierauf gebot der HERR dem Mose: »Gehe zum Pharao und sage zu ihm: ›So hat der HERR gesprochen: Laß mein Volk ziehen, damit es mir diene!27Wenn du dich aber weigerst, es ziehen zu lassen, so will ich dein ganzes Gebiet mit Fröschen heimsuchen.28Der Nil soll dann von Fröschen wimmeln; die sollen heraufkommen und in deinen Palast, in dein Schlafgemach und auf dein Bett kriechen und in die Häuser deiner Diener und unter dein Volk, auch in deine Backöfen und Backtröge dringen;29ja an dir selbst und deinen Untertanen und an all deinen Dienern sollen die Frösche hinaufkriechen!‹«
1And the Lord said to Moses, “See, I have made you like God to Pharaoh, and your brother Aaron shall be your prophet. (2Mo 4,15; 2Mo 6,29)3But I will harden Pharaoh’s heart, and though I multiply my signs and wonders in the land of Egypt, (2Mo 4,21; 2Mo 11,9; Ps 78,43; Ps 105,26; Ps 135,9)4Pharaoh will not listen to you. Then I will lay my hand on Egypt and bring my hosts, my people the children of Israel, out of the land of Egypt by great acts of judgment.5The Egyptians shall know that I am the Lord, when I stretch out my hand against Egypt and bring out the people of Israel from among them.” (2Mo 7,17; 2Mo 8,10; 2Mo 8,22; 2Mo 14,4; 2Mo 14,18)6Moses and Aaron did so; they did just as the Lord commanded them.7Now Moses was eighty years old, and Aaron eighty-three years old, when they spoke to Pharaoh. (5Mo 29,5; 5Mo 31,2; 5Mo 34,7; Apg 7,23; Apg 7,30)8Then the Lord said to Moses and Aaron,9“When Pharaoh says to you, ‘Prove yourselves by working a miracle,’ then you shall say to Aaron, ‘Take your staff and cast it down before Pharaoh, that it may become a serpent.’” (Jes 7,11; Joh 2,18; Joh 4,48; Joh 6,30)10So Moses and Aaron went to Pharaoh and did just as the Lord commanded. Aaron cast down his staff before Pharaoh and his servants, and it became a serpent.11Then Pharaoh summoned the wise men and the sorcerers, and they, the magicians of Egypt, also did the same by their secret arts. (1Mo 41,8; 2Mo 7,12; 2Mo 7,22; 2Mo 8,7; 2Mo 8,18; 2Mo 9,11; 2Tim 3,8)12For each man cast down his staff, and they became serpents. But Aaron’s staff swallowed up their staffs.13Still Pharaoh’s heart was hardened, and he would not listen to them, as the Lord had said. (2Mo 7,3)
The First Plague: Water Turned to Blood
14Then the Lord said to Moses, “Pharaoh’s heart is hardened; he refuses to let the people go.15Go to Pharaoh in the morning, as he is going out to the water. Stand on the bank of the Nile to meet him, and take in your hand the staff that turned into a serpent. (2Mo 4,2; 2Mo 4,3; 2Mo 4,17; 2Mo 8,20; 2Mo 9,13; 2Mo 17,5)16And you shall say to him, ‘The Lord, the God of the Hebrews, sent me to you, saying, “Let my people go, that they may serve me in the wilderness.” But so far, you have not obeyed. (2Mo 3,12; 2Mo 3,18; 2Mo 5,1; 2Mo 5,3; 2Mo 9,1; 2Mo 9,13)17Thus says the Lord, “By this you shall know that I am the Lord: behold, with the staff that is in my hand I will strike the water that is in the Nile, and it shall turn into blood. (2Mo 4,9; 2Mo 7,5; Offb 16,4)18The fish in the Nile shall die, and the Nile will stink, and the Egyptians will grow weary of drinking water from the Nile.”’” (2Mo 7,21; 2Mo 7,24)19And the Lord said to Moses, “Say to Aaron, ‘Take your staff and stretch out your hand over the waters of Egypt, over their rivers, their canals, and their ponds, and all their pools of water, so that they may become blood, and there shall be blood throughout all the land of Egypt, even in vessels of wood and in vessels of stone.’” (2Mo 8,5; 2Mo 8,16; 2Mo 9,22; 2Mo 10,12; 2Mo 10,21; 2Mo 14,16; 2Mo 14,21; 2Mo 14,26)20Moses and Aaron did as the Lord commanded. In the sight of Pharaoh and in the sight of his servants he lifted up the staff and struck the water in the Nile, and all the water in the Nile turned into blood. (2Mo 17,9; Ps 78,44; Ps 105,29)21And the fish in the Nile died, and the Nile stank, so that the Egyptians could not drink water from the Nile. There was blood throughout all the land of Egypt. (2Mo 7,18; 2Mo 7,24)22But the magicians of Egypt did the same by their secret arts. So Pharaoh’s heart remained hardened, and he would not listen to them, as the Lord had said. (2Mo 7,3; 2Mo 7,11; 2Mo 7,13)23Pharaoh turned and went into his house, and he did not take even this to heart.24And all the Egyptians dug along the Nile for water to drink, for they could not drink the water of the Nile.25Seven full days passed after the Lord had struck the Nile.
