1So zog denn Abram mit seiner Frau und mit all seinem Hab und Gut aus Ägypten wieder hinauf nach dem Südgau; auch Lot war bei ihm.2Abram war aber sehr reich an Herden, an Silber und Gold;3und er zog weiter von einem Lagerplatz zum andern aus dem Südgau bis nach Bethel, bis an die Stätte, wo sein Zelt anfangs gestanden hatte, zwischen Bethel und Ai,4zu der Stätte, wo der Altar stand, den er dort zuvor gebaut hatte; und Abram rief dort den Namen des HERRN an.5Aber auch Lot, der mit Abram zog, besaß Kleinvieh, Rinder und Zelte.6So reichte denn das Land nicht aus, daß beide hätten beisammen bleiben können; denn ihr Hab und Gut war groß geworden; daher konnten sie nicht beieinander bleiben.7So entstand denn Streit zwischen den Hirten von Abrams Herden und den Hirten von Lots Vieh; es waren nämlich die Kanaanäer und Pherissiter damals im Lande ansässig.8Da sagte Abram zu Lot: »Laß doch keine Streitigkeiten zwischen mir und dir und zwischen meinen und deinen Hirten herrschen: wir sind ja Brüder[1].9Steht dir nicht das ganze Land zur freien Verfügung? Trenne dich lieber von mir! Willst du nach der linken Seite, so gehe ich nach rechts, und willst du nach der rechten Seite, so gehe ich nach links.«10Da hob Lot seine Augen auf und sah, daß die ganze Gegend[2] am Jordan überall wohlbewässertes Land war – bevor nämlich der HERR Sodom und Gomorrha zerstört hatte –, wie der Garten Gottes, wie das Land Ägypten, bis nach Zoar hin.11Da wählte Lot für sich die ganze Gegend am Jordan[3] und zog ostwärts. So trennten sich beide voneinander:12Abram blieb im Lande Kanaan wohnen, während Lot sich in den Ortschaften der Jordanaue niederließ und mit seinen Zelten bis nach Sodom zog.13Die Einwohner von Sodom aber waren böse Leute und arge Sünder vor dem HERRN.14Der HERR aber sagte zu Abram, nachdem Lot sich von ihm getrennt hatte: »Hebe deine Augen auf und schaue von der Stelle, auf der du stehst, nach Norden und Süden, nach Osten und Westen:15denn das ganze Land, das du siehst, will ich dir und deinen Nachkommen auf ewige Zeiten geben16und will deine Nachkommenschaft so zahlreich werden lassen wie den Staub der Erde, so daß, wenn jemand den Staub der Erde zu zählen vermöchte, auch deine Nachkommenschaft zählbar sein sollte.17Wohlan, durchziehe das Land nach seiner Länge und Breite, denn dir will ich es geben!«18Da zog Abram mit seinen Zelten weiter und nahm (endlich) seinen Wohnsitz unter[4] den Terebinthen Mamres, die bei Hebron stehen; dort baute er dem HERRN einen Altar. 1So Abram went up from Egypt, he and his wife and all that he had, and Lot with him, into the Negeb. (1Mo 12,9)2Now Abram was very rich in livestock, in silver, and in gold. (1Mo 24,35; Ps 112,1; Spr 10,22)3And he journeyed on from the Negeb as far as Bethel to the place where his tent had been at the beginning, between Bethel and Ai,4to the place where he had made an altar at the first. And there Abram called upon the name of the Lord. (1Mo 12,7)5And Lot, who went with Abram, also had flocks and herds and tents,6so that the land could not support both of them dwelling together; for their possessions were so great that they could not dwell together, (1Mo 36,6)7and there was strife between the herdsmen of Abram’s livestock and the herdsmen of Lot’s livestock. At that time the Canaanites and the Perizzites were dwelling in the land. (1Mo 12,6; 1Mo 26,20)8Then Abram said to Lot, “Let there be no strife between you and me, and between your herdsmen and my herdsmen, for we are kinsmen.[1] (Apg 7,26; 1Kor 6,1)9Is not the whole land before you? Separate yourself from me. If you take the left hand, then I will go to the right, or if you take the right hand, then I will go to the left.” (1Mo 20,15; 1Mo 34,10)10And Lot lifted up his eyes and saw that the Jordan Valley was well watered everywhere like the garden of the Lord, like the land of Egypt, in the direction of Zoar. (This was before the Lord destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah.) (1Mo 2,8; 1Mo 14,2; 1Mo 14,8; 1Mo 19,17; 1Mo 19,22; 1Mo 19,24; 1Mo 19,25; 1Mo 19,28; 5Mo 34,3; 1Kön 7,46; Jes 51,3; Hes 28,13; Joe 2,3; Mt 3,5)11So Lot chose for himself all the Jordan Valley, and Lot journeyed east. Thus they separated from each other.12Abram settled in the land of Canaan, while Lot settled among the cities of the valley and moved his tent as far as Sodom.13Now the men of Sodom were wicked, great sinners against the Lord. (1Mo 18,20; Hes 16,49; 2Petr 2,7)14The Lord said to Abram, after Lot had separated from him, “Lift up your eyes and look from the place where you are, northward and southward and eastward and westward, (1Mo 28,14)15for all the land that you see I will give to you and to your offspring forever. (1Mo 12,7; 1Mo 15,18; 1Mo 17,8; 1Mo 24,7; 1Mo 26,4; 1Mo 28,13; 1Mo 35,12; 5Mo 34,4; 2Chr 20,7; Apg 7,5)16I will make your offspring as the dust of the earth, so that if one can count the dust of the earth, your offspring also can be counted. (1Mo 15,5; 1Mo 22,17; 1Mo 28,14; 1Mo 32,12; 4Mo 23,10; 1Kön 3,8)17Arise, walk through the length and the breadth of the land, for I will give it to you.”18So Abram moved his tent and came and settled by the oaks[2] of Mamre, which are at Hebron, and there he built an altar to the Lord.
