1 Wer sich absondert, der sucht, was ihn gelüstet, und widersetzt sich allem, was gut ist. 2 Ein Tor hat nicht Gefallen an Einsicht, sondern will kundtun, was in seinem Herzen steckt. 3 Wohin ein Frevler kommt, kommt auch Verachtung; und wo Schande ist, da ist Hohn. 4 Die Worte in eines Mannes Munde sind wie tiefe Wasser, und die Quelle der Weisheit ist ein sprudelnder Bach. 5 Es ist nicht gut, die Person des Frevlers zu achten, zu beugen den Gerechten im Gericht. (5Mo 1,17) 6 Die Lippen des Toren bringen Zank, und sein Mund ruft nach Schlägen. 7 Der Mund des Toren bringt ihn ins Verderben, und seine Lippen bringen ihn zu Fall. 8 Die Worte des Verleumders sind wie Leckerbissen und gehen einem glatt ein. (Spr 26,22) 9 Wer lässig ist in seiner Arbeit, der ist ein Bruder des Verderbers. (Spr 10,4) 10 Der Name des HERRN ist eine feste Burg; der Gerechte läuft dorthin und wird beschirmt. (Ps 61,4; Spr 14,26) 11 Des Reichen Habe ist ihm wie eine feste Stadt und dünkt ihn eine hohe Mauer. (Spr 10,15) 12 Vor dem Sturz ist das Herz eines Mannes stolz; und ehe man zu Ehren kommt, muss man demütig sein. (Spr 16,18) 13 Wer antwortet, ehe er hört, dem ist’s Torheit und Schande. 14 Wer ein mutiges Herz hat, weiß sich auch im Leiden zu halten; wenn aber der Mut darniederliegt, wer kann’s tragen? 15 Ein verständiges Herz erwirbt Einsicht, und das Ohr der Weisen sucht Erkenntnis. 16 Das Geschenk des Menschen schafft ihm Raum und bringt ihn vor die großen Herren. (1Mo 43,11) 17 Ein jeder hat zuerst in seiner Sache recht; kommt aber der andere zu Wort, so findet sich’s. 18 Das Los schlichtet den Streit und scheidet zwischen den Mächtigen. 19 Ein gekränkter Bruder ist abweisender als eine feste Stadt, und Streitigkeiten sind hart wie der Riegel einer Burg. 20 Von der Frucht seines Mundes nährt sich der Leib des Mannes, und er wird gesättigt mit dem, was seine Lippen ihm einbringen. (Spr 12,14) 21 Tod und Leben stehen in der Zunge Gewalt; wer sie liebt, wird von ihrer Frucht essen. (Spr 13,3) 22 Wer eine Frau gefunden hat, der hat etwas Gutes gefunden und Wohlgefallen erlangt vom HERRN. (Spr 19,14; Spr 31,10) 23 Ein Armer redet mit Flehen, aber ein Reicher antwortet hart. 24 Es gibt Allernächste, die bringen ins Verderben, und es gibt Freunde, die hangen fester an als ein Bruder. (Spr 17,17)

1 An unfriendly person pursues selfish ends and against all sound judgment starts quarrels. 2 Fools find no pleasure in understanding but delight in airing their own opinions. 3 When wickedness comes, so does contempt, and with shame comes reproach. 4 The words of the mouth are deep waters, but the fountain of wisdom is a rushing stream. 5 It is not good to be partial to the wicked and so deprive the innocent of justice. 6 The lips of fools bring them strife, and their mouths invite a beating. 7 The mouths of fools are their undoing, and their lips are a snare to their very lives. 8 The words of a gossip are like choice morsels; they go down to the inmost parts. 9 One who is slack in his work is brother to one who destroys. 10 The name of the Lord is a fortified tower; the righteous run to it and are safe. 11 The wealth of the rich is their fortified city; they imagine it a wall too high to scale. 12 Before a downfall the heart is haughty, but humility comes before honour. 13 To answer before listening – that is folly and shame. 14 The human spirit can endure in times of illness, but a crushed spirit who can bear? 15 The heart of the discerning acquires knowledge, for the ears of the wise seek it out. 16 A gift opens the way and ushers the giver into the presence of the great. 17 In a lawsuit the first to speak seems right, until someone comes forward and cross-examines. 18 Casting the lot settles disputes and keeps strong opponents apart. 19 A brother wronged is more unyielding than a fortified city; disputes are like the barred gates of a citadel. 20 From the fruit of their mouth a person’s stomach is filled; with the harvest of their lips they are satisfied. 21 The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit. 22 He who finds a wife finds what is good and receives favour from the Lord. 23 The poor plead for mercy, but the rich answer harshly. 24 One who has unreliable friends soon comes to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.
