1 Da rief Isaak seinen Sohn Jakob und segnete ihn und gebot ihm und sprach zu ihm: Nimm dir nicht eine Frau von den Töchtern Kanaans, (1Mo 24,3) 

2 sondern mach dich auf und zieh nach Paddan-Aram zum Hause Betuëls, des Vaters deiner Mutter, und nimm dir dort eine Frau von den Töchtern Labans, des Bruders deiner Mutter. (1Mo 22,23; 1Mo 24,29) 

3 Und der allmächtige Gott segne dich und mache dich fruchtbar und mehre dich, dass du werdest eine Menge von Völkern, (1Mo 17,1) 

4 und gebe dir den Segen Abrahams, dir und deinen Nachkommen mit dir, dass du besitzest das Land, darin du jetzt ein Fremdling bist, das Gott dem Abraham gegeben hat. 

5 So entließ Isaak den Jakob, dass er nach Paddan-Aram zog zu Laban, dem Sohn des Aramäers Betuël, dem Bruder Rebekkas, Jakobs und Esaus Mutter. 

6 Nun sah Esau, dass Isaak Jakob gesegnet und nach Paddan-Aram entlassen hatte, um sich dort eine Frau zu nehmen; er hatte ihn nämlich gesegnet und ihm geboten: Du sollst dir keine Frau nehmen von den Töchtern Kanaans. 

7 Und Jakob hörte auf seinen Vater und seine Mutter und ging nach Paddan-Aram. 

8 Esau aber sah, dass die Töchter Kanaans seinem Vater Isaak missfielen. 

9 Da ging er hin zu Ismael und nahm zu den Frauen, die er bereits hatte, Mahalat, die Tochter Ismaels, des Sohnes Abrahams, die Schwester Nebajots, zur Frau. (1Mo 16,16; 1Mo 25,13; 1Mo 26,34) 

Jakob schaut die Himmelsleiter

10 Aber Jakob zog aus von Beerscheba und machte sich auf den Weg nach Haran 

11 und kam an eine Stätte, da blieb er über Nacht, denn die Sonne war untergegangen. Und er nahm einen Stein von der Stätte und legte ihn zu seinen Häupten und legte sich an der Stätte schlafen. 

12 Und ihm träumte, und siehe, eine Leiter stand auf Erden, die rührte mit der Spitze an den Himmel, und siehe, die Engel Gottes stiegen daran auf und nieder. (Joh 1,51) 

13 Und der HERR stand oben darauf und sprach: Ich bin der HERR, der Gott deines Vaters Abraham, und Isaaks Gott; das Land, darauf du liegst, will ich dir und deinen Nachkommen geben. 

14 Und dein Geschlecht soll werden wie der Staub auf Erden, und du sollst ausgebreitet werden gegen Westen und Osten, Norden und Süden, und durch dich und deine Nachkommen sollen alle Geschlechter auf Erden gesegnet werden. (1Mo 12,3; 1Mo 13,14; 1Mo 26,4) 

15 Und siehe, ich bin mit dir und will dich behüten, wo du hinziehst, und will dich wieder herbringen in dies Land. Denn ich will dich nicht verlassen, bis ich alles tue, was ich dir zugesagt habe. 

16 Als nun Jakob von seinem Schlaf aufwachte, sprach er: Fürwahr, der HERR ist an dieser Stätte, und ich wusste es nicht! 

17 Und er fürchtete sich und sprach: Wie heilig ist diese Stätte! Hier ist nichts anderes als Gottes Haus, und hier ist die Pforte des Himmels. (2Mo 3,5) 

18 Und Jakob stand früh am Morgen auf und nahm den Stein, den er zu seinen Häupten gelegt hatte, und richtete ihn auf zu einem Steinmal und goss Öl oben darauf (1Mo 35,14) 

19 und nannte die Stätte Bethel; vorher aber hieß die Stadt Lus. 

20 Und Jakob tat ein Gelübde und sprach: Wird Gott mit mir sein und mich behüten auf dem Wege, den ich reise, und mir Brot zu essen geben und Kleider anzuziehen 

21 und mich mit Frieden wieder heim zu meinem Vater bringen, so soll der HERR mein Gott sein. 

22 Und dieser Stein, den ich aufgerichtet habe zu einem Steinmal, soll ein Gotteshaus werden; und von allem, was du mir gibst, will ich dir den Zehnten geben. (1Mo 35,1)

1 So Isaac called for Jacob and blessed him. Then he commanded him: ‘Do not marry a Canaanite woman. 

2 Go at once to Paddan Aram, to the house of your mother’s father Bethuel. Take a wife for yourself there, from among the daughters of Laban, your mother’s brother. 

3 May God Almighty bless you and make you fruitful and increase your numbers until you become a community of peoples. 

4 May he give you and your descendants the blessing given to Abraham, so that you may take possession of the land where you now reside as a foreigner, the land God gave to Abraham.’ 

5 Then Isaac sent Jacob on his way, and he went to Paddan Aram, to Laban son of Bethuel the Aramean, the brother of Rebekah, who was the mother of Jacob and Esau. 

6 Now Esau learned that Isaac had blessed Jacob and had sent him to Paddan Aram to take a wife from there, and that when he blessed him he commanded him, ‘Do not marry a Canaanite woman,’ 

7 and that Jacob had obeyed his father and mother and had gone to Paddan Aram. 

8 Esau then realised how displeasing the Canaanite women were to his father Isaac; 

9 so he went to Ishmael and married Mahalath, the sister of Nebaioth and daughter of Ishmael son of Abraham, in addition to the wives he already had. 

Jacob’s dream at Bethel

10 Jacob left Beersheba and set out for Harran. 

11 When he reached a certain place, he stopped for the night because the sun had set. Taking one of the stones there, he put it under his head and lay down to sleep. 

12 He had a dream in which he saw a stairway resting on the earth, with its top reaching to heaven, and the angels of God were ascending and descending on it. 

13 There above it stood the Lord, and he said: ‘I am the Lord, the God of your father Abraham and the God of Isaac. I will give you and your descendants the land on which you are lying. 

14 Your descendants will be like the dust of the earth, and you will spread out to the west and to the east, to the north and to the south. All peoples on earth will be blessed through you and your offspring. 

15 I am with you and will watch over you wherever you go, and I will bring you back to this land. I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you.’ 

16 When Jacob awoke from his sleep, he thought, ‘Surely the Lord is in this place, and I was not aware of it.’ 

17 He was afraid and said, ‘How awesome is this place! This is none other than the house of God; this is the gate of heaven.’ 

18 Early the next morning Jacob took the stone he had placed under his head and set it up as a pillar and poured oil on top of it. 

19 He called that place Bethel, though the city used to be called Luz. 

20 Then Jacob made a vow, saying, ‘If God will be with me and will watch over me on this journey I am taking and will give me food to eat and clothes to wear 

21 so that I return safely to my father’s household, then the Lord will be my God 

22 and this stone that I have set up as a pillar will be God’s house, and of all that you give me I will give you a tenth.’

Jakobs Flucht nach Haran

1 Da rief Isaak den Jakob und segnete ihn. Und er befahl ihm und sagte zu ihm: Nimm dir nicht eine Frau von den Töchtern Kanaans! (1Mo 24,3; 1Mo 27,33) 

2 Mache dich auf, geh nach Paddan-Aram zum Haus Betuëls, des Vaters deiner Mutter, und nimm dir von dort eine Frau von den Töchtern Labans, des Bruders deiner Mutter! (1Mo 22,23; 1Mo 24,4; Hos 12,13) 

3 Gott, der Allmächtige, segne dich und mache dich fruchtbar und vermehre dich, dass du zu einer Schar von Völkern wirst; (1Mo 17,4; 1Mo 24,60; Rut 2,4) 

4 und er gebe dir den Segen Abrahams, dir und deiner Nachkommenschaft mit dir, damit du das Land deiner Fremdlingschaft, das Gott dem Abraham gegeben hat, in Besitz nimmst! (1Mo 12,2; 1Mo 17,8)

Esaus dritte Frau

6 Und als Esau sah, dass Isaak den Jakob gesegnet und ihn nach Paddan-Aram entlassen hatte, sich von dort eine Frau zu nehmen, indem er ihn segnete und ihm gebot: Nimm ja nicht eine Frau von den Töchtern Kanaans!, 

7 und dass Jakob seinem Vater und seiner Mutter gehorchte und nach Paddan-Aram ging, 

8 da sah Esau, dass die Töchter Kanaans übel waren in den Augen seines Vaters Isaak, (1Mo 26,35) 

9 und Esau ging zu Ismael und nahm sich Mahalat zur Frau, die Tochter Ismaels, des Sohnes Abrahams, die Schwester Nebajots, zu seinen ⟨anderen⟩ Frauen hinzu. (1Mo 25,13; 1Mo 26,34) 

Jakobs Traum und Gelübde

10 Und Jakob zog aus von Beerscheba und ging nach Haran. (1Mo 11,31; 1Mo 35,1) 

11 Und er gelangte an eine Stätte und übernachtete dort; denn die Sonne war ⟨schon⟩ untergegangen. Und er nahm ⟨einen⟩ von den Steinen der Stätte und legte ihn an sein Kopfende und legte sich nieder an jener Stätte. 

12 Und er träumte: Und siehe, eine Leiter war auf die Erde gestellt, und ihre Spitze berührte den Himmel; und siehe, Engel Gottes stiegen darauf auf und nieder. (1Mo 20,3; Joh 1,51)

17 Und er fürchtete sich und sagte: Wie furchtbar ist diese Stätte! Dies ist nichts anderes als das Haus Gottes und dies die Pforte des Himmels. (1Mo 35,7; 2Mo 3,6) 

18 Und Jakob stand früh am Morgen auf und nahm den Stein, den er an sein Kopfende gelegt hatte, und stellte ihn auf als Gedenkstein und goss Öl auf seine Spitze. (1Mo 21,14; 1Mo 31,13; 1Mo 31,45; 1Mo 35,14; Jos 24,26; 1Sam 7,12) 

19 Und er gab dieser Stätte den Namen Bethel. Im Anfang jedoch war Lus der Name der Stadt. (1Mo 12,8; 1Mo 35,1; 1Mo 48,3; Jos 16,2; Jos 18,13; Ri 20,26; 1Sam 7,16; 1Kön 12,29; 2Kön 2,2; 2Chr 13,19) 

20 Und Jakob legte ein Gelübde ab und sagte: Wenn Gott mit mir ist und mich behütet auf diesem Weg, den ich gehe, und mir Brot zu essen und Kleidung anzuziehen gibt (1Mo 31,13; 4Mo 21,2; Ri 11,30; 1Sam 1,11) 

21 und ich in Frieden zurückkehre zum Haus meines Vaters, dann soll der HERR mein Gott sein. (5Mo 26,17; 2Sam 15,8; 1Chr 4,10) 

22 Und dieser Stein, den ich als Gedenkstein aufgestellt habe, soll ein Haus Gottes werden; und alles, was du mir geben wirst, werde ich dir treu verzehnten. (1Mo 14,20; 1Mo 35,7; 3Mo 27,32; Mal 3,10)

2 Arise, go to Padanaram, to the house of Bethuel thy mother' father; and take thee a wife from thence of the daughters of Laban thy mother' brother. 

3 And God Almighty bless thee, and make thee fruitful, and multiply thee, that thou mayest be a multitude of people; 

4 And give thee the blessing of Abraham, to thee, and to thy seed with thee; that thou mayest inherit the land wherein thou art a stranger, which God gave unto Abraham. 

5 And Isaac sent away Jacob: and he went to Padanaram unto Laban, son of Bethuel the Syrian, the brother of Rebekah, Jacob' and Esau' mother. 

6 When Esau saw that Isaac had blessed Jacob, and sent him away to Padanaram, to take him a wife from thence; and that as he blessed him he gave him a charge, saying, Thou shalt not take a wife of the daughters of Canaan; 

7 And that Jacob obeyed his father and his mother, and was gone to Padanaram; 

8 And Esau seeing that the daughters of Canaan pleased not Isaac his father; 

9 Then went Esau unto Ishmael, and took unto the wives which he had Mahalath the daughter of Ishmael Abraham' son, the sister of Nebajoth, to be his wife. 

10 And Jacob went out from Beersheba, and went toward Haran. 

11 And he lighted upon a certain place, and tarried there all night, because the sun was set; and he took of the stones of that place, and put them for his pillows, and lay down in that place to sleep. 

12 And he dreamed, and behold a ladder set up on the earth, and the top of it reached to heaven: and behold the angels of God ascending and descending on it. 

13 And, behold, the LORD stood above it, and said, I am the LORD God of Abraham thy father, and the God of Isaac: the land whereon thou liest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed; 

14 And thy seed shall be as the dust of the earth, and thou shalt spread abroad to the west, and to the east, and to the north, and to the south: and in thee and in thy seed shall all the families of the earth be blessed. 

15 And, behold, I am with thee, and will keep thee in all places whither thou goest, and will bring thee again into this land; for I will not leave thee, until I have done that which I have spoken to thee of. 

16 And Jacob awaked out of his sleep, and he said, Surely the LORD is in this place; and I knew it not. 

17 And he was afraid, and said, How dreadful is this place! this is none other but the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven. 

18 And Jacob rose up early in the morning, and took the stone that he had put for his pillows, and set it up for a pillar, and poured oil upon the top of it. 

19 And he called the name of that place Bethel: but the name of that city was called Luz at the first. 

20 And Jacob vowed a vow, saying, If God will be with me, and will keep me in this way that I go, and will give me bread to eat, and raiment to put on,

1 Da rief Isaak seinen Sohn Jakob zu sich. Er segnete ihn und sagte: »Du darfst auf keinen Fall eine Frau aus dem Land Kanaan heiraten! 

2 Geh nach Mesopotamien zur Familie Betuëls, des Vaters deiner Mutter, und nimm dir eine von den Töchtern Labans, des Bruders deiner Mutter, zur Frau. (1Mo 24,4) 

3 Gott, der Gewaltige, wird dich segnen. Er wird dich fruchtbar machen und dir viele Nachkommen schenken, sodass aus dir eine ganze Schar von Völkern wird. (1Mo 12,2) 

4 Auf dich und deine Nachkommen wird der Segen übergehen, den Abraham empfangen hat: Sie werden das Land in Besitz nehmen, in dem du noch als Fremder lebst und das Gott einst Abraham zugesprochen hat.« (1Mo 12,7) 

5 Nachdem Isaak ihn verabschiedet hatte, ging Jakob ins obere Mesopotamien zu Laban, dem Sohn des Aramäers Betuël, dem Bruder von Rebekka, seiner und Esaus Mutter. 

6 Das alles erfuhr Esau: Sein Vater Isaak hatte seinen Bruder Jakob gesegnet und nach Mesopotamien geschickt, damit er sich dort eine Frau suche. Als er ihn segnete, hatte er ihm befohlen: »Du darfst auf keinen Fall eine Frau aus dem Land Kanaan heiraten!« (1Mo 24,3) 

7 Und Jakob hatte seinem Vater und seiner Mutter gehorcht und war nach Mesopotamien gegangen. 

8 Da begriff Esau, dass die Frauen Kanaans seinem Vater zuwider waren. 

9 Er ging zu Ismaël und nahm zu seinen anderen Frauen hinzu noch dessen Tochter Mahalat, die Schwester Nebajots und Enkelin Abrahams, zur Frau. 

Jakobs Traum von der »Himmelsleiter«

10 Jakob machte sich auf den Weg von Beerscheba nach Haran. 

11 Er kam an einen Platz und übernachtete dort, weil die Sonne gerade untergegangen war. Hinter seinen Kopf legte er einen der großen Steine, die dort umherlagen. Während er schlief, 

12 sah er im Traum eine breite Treppe, die von der Erde bis zum Himmel reichte. Engel stiegen auf ihr zum Himmel hinauf, andere kamen zur Erde herunter. (Joh 1,51; Weis 10,10) 

13 Der HERR selbst stand ganz dicht bei Jakob und sagte zu ihm: »Ich bin der HERR, der Gott deiner Vorfahren Abraham und Isaak. Das Land, auf dem du liegst, will ich dir und deinen Nachkommen geben. (1Mo 12,7) 

14 Sie werden so unzählbar sein wie der Staub auf der Erde und sich nach allen Seiten ausbreiten, nach West und Ost, nach Nord und Süd. Am Verhalten zu dir und deinen Nachkommen wird sich für alle Menschen Glück und Segen entscheiden. (1Mo 12,2; 1Mo 12,3) 

15 Ich werde dir beistehen. Ich beschütze dich, wo du auch hingehst, und bringe dich wieder in dieses Land zurück. Ich lasse dich nicht im Stich und tue alles, was ich dir versprochen habe.« 

16 Jakob erwachte aus dem Schlaf und rief: »Wahrhaftig, der HERR ist an diesem Ort, und ich wusste es nicht!« 

17 Er war ganz erschrocken und sagte: »Man muss sich dieser Stätte in Ehrfurcht nähern. Hier ist wirklich das Haus Gottes, das Tor des Himmels!« 

18 Früh am Morgen stand Jakob auf. Den Stein, den er hinter seinen Kopf gelegt hatte, stellte er als Steinmal auf und goss Öl darüber, um ihn zu weihen. 

19 Er nannte die Stätte Bet-El (Haus Gottes); vorher hieß der Ort Lus. 

20 Dann legte Jakob ein Gelübde ab: »Wenn der HERR mir beisteht«, sagte er, »wenn er mich bewahrt auf der Reise, die ich jetzt antrete, wenn er mir Nahrung und Kleidung gibt 

21 und wenn ich wohlbehalten wieder nach Hause zurückkomme, dann soll er allein mein Gott sein. 

22 Hier an dieser Stelle, wo ich den Stein aufgestellt habe, soll dann ein Heiligtum für ihn errichtet werden. Von allem Besitz, den er mir schenken wird, werde ich ihm den zehnten Teil geben.«
