1Als er aber das Volk sah, ging er auf einen Berg. Und er setzte sich, und seine Jünger traten zu ihm. (2Mo 19,3; 2Mo 19,11; Lk 6,20)2Und er tat seinen Mund auf, lehrte sie und sprach:3Selig sind, die da geistlich arm sind; denn ihrer ist das Himmelreich. (Jes 57,15)4Selig sind, die da Leid tragen; denn sie sollen getröstet werden. (Ps 126,5; Jes 61,1; Offb 7,17)5Selig sind die Sanftmütigen; denn sie werden das Erdreich besitzen[1]. (Mt 10,22; Apg 5,41; 1Petr 4,14)12Seid fröhlich und jubelt; es wird euch im Himmel reichlich belohnt werden. Denn ebenso haben sie verfolgt die Propheten, die vor euch gewesen sind. (2Chr 36,15; Apg 7,52; Hebr 11,33)
Salz und Licht
13Ihr seid das Salz der Erde. Wenn nun das Salz nicht mehr salzt[3], womit soll man salzen? Es ist zu nichts mehr nütze, als dass man es wegschüttet und lässt es von den Leuten zertreten. (Mk 9,50)14Ihr seid das Licht der Welt. Es kann die Stadt, die auf einem Berge liegt, nicht verborgen sein. (Joh 8,12)15Man zündet auch nicht ein Licht an und setzt es unter einen Scheffel, sondern auf einen Leuchter; so leuchtet es allen, die im Hause sind. (Lk 8,16)16So lasst euer Licht leuchten vor den Leuten, damit sie eure guten Werke sehen und euren Vater im Himmel preisen. (Joh 15,8; Eph 5,8; Phil 2,14; 1Petr 2,12)
Jesu Stellung zum Gesetz
17Ihr sollt nicht meinen, dass ich gekommen bin, das Gesetz oder die Propheten aufzulösen; ich bin nicht gekommen aufzulösen, sondern zu erfüllen. (Mt 3,15; Röm 10,4; 1Joh 2,7)18Denn wahrlich, ich sage euch: Bis Himmel und Erde vergehen, wird nicht vergehen der kleinste Buchstabe noch ein Tüpfelchen vom Gesetz, bis es alles geschieht. (Mt 24,35; Lk 16,17)19Wer nun eines von diesen kleinsten Geboten auflöst und lehrt die Leute so, der wird der Kleinste heißen im Himmelreich; wer es aber tut und lehrt, der wird groß heißen im Himmelreich. (Jak 2,10)20Denn ich sage euch: Wenn eure Gerechtigkeit nicht besser ist als die der Schriftgelehrten und Pharisäer, so werdet ihr nicht in das Himmelreich kommen. (Mt 7,21; Mt 23,2)
Vom Töten
21Ihr habt gehört, dass zu den Alten gesagt ist: »Du sollst nicht töten«; wer aber tötet, der soll des Gerichts schuldig sein. (2Mo 20,13; 2Mo 21,12)22Ich aber sage euch: Wer mit seinem Bruder zürnt, der ist des Gerichts schuldig; wer aber zu seinem Bruder sagt: Du Nichtsnutz!, der ist des Hohen Rats schuldig; wer aber sagt: Du Narr!, der ist des höllischen Feuers schuldig. (1Joh 3,15)23Darum, wenn du deine Gabe auf dem Altar opferst und dort kommt dir in den Sinn, dass dein Bruder etwas gegen dich hat,24so lass dort vor dem Altar deine Gabe und geh zuerst hin und versöhne dich mit deinem Bruder, und dann komm und opfere deine Gabe. (Mk 11,25)25Vertrage dich mit deinem Widersacher sogleich, solange du noch mit ihm auf dem Weg bist, auf dass dich der Widersacher nicht dem Richter überantworte und der Richter dem Gerichtsdiener und du ins Gefängnis geworfen werdest. (Mt 18,23; Lk 12,58)26Wahrlich, ich sage dir: Du wirst nicht von dort herauskommen, bis du auch den letzten Heller bezahlt hast.
Vom Ehebrechen
27Ihr habt gehört, dass gesagt ist: »Du sollst nicht ehebrechen.« (2Mo 20,14)28Ich aber sage euch: Wer eine Frau ansieht, sie zu begehren, der hat schon mit ihr die Ehe gebrochen in seinem Herzen. (Hi 31,1)29Wenn dich aber dein rechtes Auge verführt, so reiß es aus und wirf’s von dir. Es ist besser für dich, dass eins deiner Glieder verderbe und nicht der ganze Leib in die Hölle geworfen werde. (Mt 18,8; Kol 3,5)30Wenn dich deine rechte Hand verführt, so hau sie ab und wirf sie von dir. Es ist besser für dich, dass eins deiner Glieder verderbe und nicht der ganze Leib in die Hölle fahre.31Es ist auch gesagt: »Wer sich von seiner Frau scheidet, der soll ihr einen Scheidebrief geben.« (5Mo 24,1; Mt 19,3)32Ich aber sage euch: Wer sich von seiner Frau scheidet, es sei denn wegen Unzucht, der macht, dass sie die Ehe bricht; und wer eine Geschiedene heiratet, der bricht die Ehe. (Lk 16,18; 1Kor 7,10)
Vom Schwören
33Ihr habt weiter gehört, dass zu den Alten gesagt ist: »Du sollst keinen falschen Eid schwören und sollst dem Herrn deine Eide halten.« (3Mo 19,12; 4Mo 30,3)34Ich aber sage euch, dass ihr überhaupt nicht schwören sollt, weder bei dem Himmel, denn er ist Gottes Thron; (Ps 48,3; Jes 66,1; Mt 23,16; Jak 5,12)35noch bei der Erde, denn sie ist der Schemel seiner Füße; noch bei Jerusalem, denn sie ist die Stadt des großen Königs.36Auch sollst du nicht bei deinem Haupt schwören; denn du vermagst nicht ein einziges Haar weiß oder schwarz zu machen.37Eure Rede aber sei: Ja, ja; nein, nein. Was darüber ist, das ist vom Bösen.
Vom Vergelten
38Ihr habt gehört, dass gesagt ist: »Auge um Auge, Zahn um Zahn.« (2Mo 21,24)39Ich aber sage euch, dass ihr nicht widerstreben sollt dem Bösen, sondern: Wenn dich jemand auf deine rechte Backe schlägt, dem biete die andere auch dar. (Kla 3,30; Joh 18,22; Röm 12,14; 1Petr 2,20)40Und wenn jemand mit dir rechten will und dir deinen Rock nehmen, dem lass auch den Mantel. (1Kor 6,7; Hebr 10,34)41Und wenn dich jemand eine Meile nötigt[4], so geh mit ihm zwei.42Gib dem, der dich bittet, und wende dich nicht ab von dem, der etwas von dir borgen will. (5Mo 15,7)
Von der Feindesliebe
43Ihr habt gehört, dass gesagt ist: »Du sollst deinen Nächsten lieben« und deinen Feind hassen.[5] (3Mo 19,18; Mt 22,39)44Ich aber sage euch: Liebt eure Feinde und bittet für die, die euch verfolgen,[6] (Lk 6,27; Lk 23,34; Apg 7,60)45auf dass ihr Kinder seid eures Vaters im Himmel. Denn er lässt seine Sonne aufgehen über Böse und Gute und lässt regnen über Gerechte und Ungerechte. (Eph 5,1)46Denn wenn ihr liebt, die euch lieben, was werdet ihr für Lohn haben? Tun nicht dasselbe auch die Zöllner?47Und wenn ihr nur zu euren Brüdern freundlich seid, was tut ihr Besonderes? Tun nicht dasselbe auch die Heiden?48Darum sollt ihr vollkommen sein, wie euer himmlischer Vater vollkommen ist. (3Mo 19,2)
1Jesus saw the crowds. So he went up on a mountainside and sat down. His disciples came to him.
Jesus gives blessings
2Then he began to teach them. He said,3‘Blessed are those who are spiritually needy. The kingdom of heaven belongs to them.4Blessed are those who are sad. They will be comforted.5Blessed are those who are humble. They will be given the earth.6Blessed are those who are hungry and thirsty for what is right. They will be filled.7Blessed are those who show mercy. They will be shown mercy.8Blessed are those whose hearts are pure. They will see God.9Blessed are those who make peace. They will be called children of God.10Blessed are those who suffer for doing what is right. The kingdom of heaven belongs to them.11‘Blessed are you when people make fun of you and hurt you because of me. You are also blessed when they tell all kinds of evil lies about you because of me.12Be joyful and glad. Your reward in heaven is great. In the same way, people hurt the prophets who lived long ago.
Salt and light
13‘You are the salt of the earth. But suppose the salt loses its saltiness. How can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything. It will be thrown out. People will walk all over it.14‘You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill can’t be hidden.15Also, people do not light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead, they put it on its stand. Then it gives light to everyone in the house.16In the same way, let your light shine so others can see it. Then they will see the good things you do. And they will bring glory to your Father who is in heaven.
Jesus fulfils the law
17‘Do not think I have come to get rid of what is written in the Law or in the Prophets. I have not come to do this. Instead, I have come to fulfil what is written.18What I’m about to tell you is true. Heaven and earth will disappear before the smallest letter disappears from the Law. Not even the smallest mark of a pen will disappear from the Law until everything is completed.19Do not ignore even one of the least important commands. And do not teach others to ignore them. If you do, you will be called the least important person in the kingdom of heaven. Instead, practise and teach these commands. Then you will be called important in the kingdom of heaven.20Here is what I tell you. You must be more godly than the Pharisees and the teachers of the law. If you are not, you will certainly not enter the kingdom of heaven.
Murder
21‘You have heard what was said to people who lived long ago. They were told, “Do not commit murder. Anyone who murders will be judged for it.” (2Mo 20,13)22But here is what I tell you. Do not be angry with a brother or sister. Anyone who is angry with them will be judged. Again, anyone who says to a brother or sister, “Raca”, must stand trial in court. And anyone who says, “You fool!” will be in danger of the fire in hell.23‘Suppose you are offering your gift at the altar. And you remember that your brother or sister has something against you.24Leave your gift in front of the altar. First go and make peace with them. Then come back and offer your gift.25‘Suppose someone has a claim against you and is taking you to court. Settle the matter quickly. Do this while you are still together on the way. If you don’t, you may be handed over to the judge. The judge may hand you over to the officer to be thrown into prison.26What I’m about to tell you is true. You will not get out until you have paid the very last penny!
Adultery
27‘You have heard that it was said, “Do not commit adultery.” (2Mo 20,14)28But here is what I tell you. Do not even look at a woman in the wrong way. Anyone who does has already committed adultery with her in his heart.29If your right eye causes you to sin, poke it out and throw it away. Your eye is only one part of your body. It is better to lose an eye than for your whole body to be thrown into hell.30If your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. Your hand is only one part of your body. It is better to lose a hand than for your whole body to go into hell.
Divorce
31‘It has been said, “Suppose a man divorces his wife. If he does, he must give her a letter of divorce.” (5Mo 24,1)32But here is what I tell you. Anyone who divorces his wife makes her a victim of adultery. And anyone who gets married to the divorced woman commits adultery. A man may divorce his wife only if she has not been faithful to him.
Promises
33‘Again, you have heard what was said to your people long ago. They were told, “Do not break the promises you make to the Lord. Keep your promises to the Lord that you have made.”34But here is what I tell you. Do not make any promises like that at all. Do not make them in the name of heaven. That is God’s throne.35Do not make them in the name of the earth. That is the stool for God’s feet. Do not make them in the name of Jerusalem. That is the city of the Great King.36And do not make a promise in your own name. You can’t make even one hair of your head white or black.37All you need to say is simply “Yes” or “No”. Anything more than this comes from the evil one.
Be kind to others
38‘You have heard that it was said, “An eye must be put out for an eye. A tooth must be knocked out for a tooth.” (2Mo 21,24; 3Mo 24,20; 5Mo 19,21)39But here is what I tell you. Do not fight against an evil person. Suppose someone slaps you on your right cheek. Turn your other cheek to them also.40Suppose someone takes you to court to get your shirt. Let them have your coat also.41Suppose someone forces you to go one mile. Go 2 miles with them.42Give to the one who asks you for something. Don’t turn away from the one who wants to borrow something from you.
Love your enemies
43‘You have heard that it was said, “Love your neighbour. Hate your enemy.” (3Mo 19,18)44But here is what I tell you. Love your enemies. Pray for those who hurt you.45Then you will be children of your Father who is in heaven. He causes his sun to shine on evil people and good people. He sends rain on those who do right and those who don’t.46If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Even the tax collectors do that.47If you greet only your own people, what more are you doing than others? Even people who are ungodly do that.48So be perfect, just as your Father in heaven is perfect.
