1Er blickte aber auf und sah, wie die Reichen ihre Gaben in den Gotteskasten einlegten. (Mk 12,41)2Er sah aber eine arme Witwe, die legte dort zwei Scherflein ein.3Und er sprach: Wahrlich, ich sage euch: Diese arme Witwe hat mehr als sie alle eingelegt.4Denn diese alle haben etwas von ihrem Überfluss zu den Gaben eingelegt; sie aber hat von ihrer Armut alles eingelegt, was sie zum Leben hatte. (Mt 24,1; Mk 13,1; 2Kor 8,12)
Das Ende des Tempels
5Und als einige von dem Tempel sagten, dass er mit schönen Steinen und Weihegaben geschmückt sei, sprach er:6Es wird die Zeit kommen, in der von dem allen, was ihr seht, nicht ein Stein auf dem andern gelassen wird, der nicht zerbrochen werde. (Lk 19,44)
Die Vorzeichen
7Sie fragten ihn aber: Meister, wann wird das geschehen? Und was wird das Zeichen sein, wenn das geschehen wird?8Er aber sprach: Seht zu, lasst euch nicht verführen. Denn viele werden kommen unter meinem Namen und sagen: Ich bin’s, und: Die Zeit ist herbeigekommen. – Lauft ihnen nicht nach!9Wenn ihr aber hören werdet von Kriegen und Unruhen, so entsetzt euch nicht. Denn das muss zuvor geschehen; aber das Ende ist noch nicht so bald da.10Dann sprach er zu ihnen: Ein Volk wird sich erheben gegen das andere und ein Reich gegen das andere, (Jes 19,2)11und es werden geschehen große Erdbeben und hier und dort Hungersnöte und Seuchen; auch werden Schrecknisse und vom Himmel her große Zeichen geschehen. (Hes 38,19)
Ankündigung von Verfolgungen
12Aber vor diesem allen werden sie Hand an euch legen und euch verfolgen und werden euch überantworten den Synagogen und Gefängnissen und euch vor Könige und Statthalter führen um meines Namens willen. (Mt 10,17; Mt 10,30; Joh 16,1; Apg 4,3)13Das wird euch widerfahren zu einem Zeugnis.14So nehmt nun zu Herzen, dass ihr euch nicht sorgt, wie ihr euch verteidigen sollt. (Lk 12,11)15Denn ich will euch Mund und Weisheit geben, der alle eure Widersacher nicht widerstehen noch widersprechen können. (Apg 6,10)16Ihr werdet aber verraten werden von Eltern und Geschwistern, Verwandten und Freunden; und sie werden einige von euch zu Tode bringen. (Lk 12,53)17Und ihr werdet gehasst sein von jedermann um meines Namens willen. (Lk 6,22; Joh 15,18)18Und kein Haar von eurem Haupt soll verloren gehen. (Lk 12,7)19Seid standhaft, und ihr werdet euer Leben gewinnen. (Hebr 10,36; Hebr 10,39)
Das Ende Jerusalems
20Wenn ihr aber sehen werdet, dass Jerusalem von einem Heer belagert wird, dann erkennt, dass seine Verwüstung nahe herbeigekommen ist. (Lk 19,43)21Alsdann, wer in Judäa ist, der fliehe ins Gebirge, und wer in der Stadt ist, gehe hinaus, und wer auf dem Lande ist, komme nicht hinein.22Denn das sind die Tage der Vergeltung, dass erfüllt werde alles, was geschrieben ist. (5Mo 32,35; Lk 18,31)23Wehe den Schwangeren und den Stillenden in jenen Tagen! Denn es wird große Not auf Erden sein und Zorn über dies Volk kommen, (Lk 23,29)24und sie werden fallen durch die Schärfe des Schwertes und gefangen weggeführt unter alle Völker, und Jerusalem wird zertreten werden von den Heiden, bis die Zeiten der Heiden erfüllt sind. (Ps 79,1; Jes 63,18; Röm 11,25; Offb 11,2)
Das Kommen des Menschensohns
25Und es werden Zeichen geschehen an Sonne und Mond und Sternen, und auf Erden wird den Völkern bange sein, und sie werden verzagen vor dem Brausen und Wogen des Meeres, (Joe 3,3; Mt 24,29; Mk 13,24; Offb 6,12)26und die Menschen werden vergehen vor Furcht und in Erwartung der Dinge, die kommen sollen über die ganze Erde; denn die Kräfte der Himmel werden ins Wanken kommen. (Joe 2,10; 2Petr 3,10)27Und alsdann werden sie sehen den Menschensohn kommen in einer Wolke mit großer Kraft und Herrlichkeit. (Dan 7,13; Mk 14,62; Offb 1,7)28Wenn aber dieses anfängt zu geschehen, dann seht auf[1] und erhebt eure Häupter, weil sich eure Erlösung naht.
Vom Feigenbaum
29Und er sagte ihnen ein Gleichnis: Seht den Feigenbaum und alle Bäume an:30wenn sie jetzt ausschlagen und ihr seht es, so wisst ihr selber, dass der Sommer schon nahe ist.31So auch ihr: Wenn ihr seht, dass dies alles geschieht, so wisst, dass das Reich Gottes nahe ist.32Wahrlich, ich sage euch: Dieses Geschlecht wird nicht vergehen, bis es alles geschieht. (Lk 9,27)33Himmel und Erde werden vergehen; aber meine Worte werden nicht vergehen. (Ps 119,89; Jes 40,8)
Ermahnung zur Wachsamkeit
34Hütet euch aber, dass eure Herzen nicht beschwert werden durch Rausch und Saufen und mit täglichen Sorgen und dieser Tag nicht plötzlich über euch komme (Mk 4,19; Lk 8,14; 1Thess 5,3)35wie ein Fallstrick. Denn er wird über alle kommen, die auf der ganzen Erde wohnen.36Wachet aber allezeit und betet, dass ihr stark werdet, zu entfliehen diesem allen, was geschehen soll, und zu stehen vor dem Menschensohn.37Er lehrte des Tags im Tempel; des Nachts aber ging er hinaus und blieb an dem Berg, den man den Ölberg nennt. (Lk 22,39)38Und alles Volk machte sich früh auf zu ihm, ihn im Tempel zu hören.
1As Jesus looked up, he saw rich people putting their gifts into the temple offering boxes.2He also saw a poor widow put in two very small copper coins.3‘What I’m about to tell you is true,’ Jesus said. ‘That poor widow has put in more than all the others.4All these other people gave a lot because they are rich. But even though she is poor, she put in everything. She had nothing left to live on.’
When the temple will be destroyed and the signs of the end
5Some of Jesus’ disciples were talking about the temple. They spoke about how it was decorated with beautiful stones and with gifts that honoured God. But Jesus asked,6‘Do you see all this? The time will come when not one stone will be left on top of another. Every stone will be thrown down.’7‘Teacher’, they asked, ‘when will these things happen? And what will be the sign that they are about to take place?’8Jesus replied, ‘Keep watch! Be careful that you are not fooled. Many will come in my name. They will claim, “I am he!” And they will say, “The time is near!” Do not follow them.9Do not be afraid when you hear about wars and about fighting against rulers. Those things must happen first. But the end will not come right away.’10Then Jesus said to them, ‘Nation will fight against nation. Kingdom will fight against kingdom.11In many places there will be powerful earthquakes. People will go hungry. There will be terrible diseases. Things will happen that will make people afraid. There will be great and miraculous signs from heaven.12‘But before all this, people will arrest you and treat you badly. They will hand you over to synagogues and put you in prison. You will be brought to kings and governors. All this will happen to you because of my name.13And so you will be witnesses about me.14But make up your mind not to worry in advance about how to stand up for yourselves.15I will give you words of wisdom. None of your enemies will be able to withstand them or prove them wrong.16Even your parents, brothers, sisters, relatives and friends will hand you over to the authorities. The authorities will put some of you to death.17Everyone will hate you because of me.18But not a hair on your head will be harmed.19Remain strong in the faith, and you will receive eternal life.20‘A time is coming when you will see armies surround Jerusalem. Then you will know that it will soon be destroyed.21Those who are in Judea should then escape to the mountains. Those in the city should get out. Those in the country should not enter the city.22This is the time when God will punish Jerusalem. Everything will come true, just as it has been written.23How awful it will be in those days for pregnant women! How awful for nursing mothers! There will be terrible suffering in the land. There will be great anger against those people.24Some will be killed by the sword. Others will be taken as prisoners to all the nations. Jerusalem will be taken over by Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles come to an end.25‘There will be signs in the sun, moon and stars. The nations of the earth will be in terrible pain. They will be puzzled by the roaring and tossing of the sea.26Terror will make people faint. They will be worried about what is happening in the world. The sun, moon and stars will be shaken from their places.27At that time people will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud. He will come with power and great glory.28When these things begin to take place, stand up. Hold your head up with joy and hope. The time when you will be set free will be very close.’29Jesus told them a story. ‘Look at the fig tree and all the trees,’ he said.30‘When you see leaves appear on the branches, you know that summer is near.31In the same way, when you see these things happening, you will know that God’s kingdom is near.32‘What I’m about to tell you is true. The people living now will certainly not pass away until all these things have happened.33Heaven and earth will pass away. But my words will never pass away.34‘Be careful. If you aren’t, your hearts will be loaded down with wasteful living, drunkenness and the worries of life. Then the day the Son of Man returns will close on you like a trap. It will happen suddenly.35That day will come on every person who lives on the whole earth.36Always keep watching. Pray that you will be able to escape all that is about to happen. Also, pray that you will not be judged guilty when the Son of Man comes.’37Each day Jesus taught at the temple. And each evening he went to spend the night on the hill called the Mount of Olives.38All the people came to the temple early in the morning. They wanted to hear Jesus speak.
