1Solches redete Jesus und hob seine Augen auf zum Himmel und sprach: Vater, die Stunde ist gekommen: Verherrliche deinen Sohn, auf dass der Sohn dich verherrliche;2so wie du ihm Macht gegeben hast über alle Menschen, auf dass er ihnen alles gebe, was du ihm gegeben hast: das ewige Leben. (Mt 11,27)3Das ist aber das ewige Leben, dass sie dich, der du allein wahrer Gott bist, und den du gesandt hast, Jesus Christus, erkennen. (1Joh 5,20)4Ich habe dich verherrlicht auf Erden und das Werk vollendet, das du mir gegeben hast, damit ich es tue.5Und nun, Vater, verherrliche du mich bei dir mit der Herrlichkeit, die ich bei dir hatte, ehe die Welt war. (Joh 1,1; Phil 2,6)6Ich habe deinen Namen den Menschen offenbart, die du mir aus der Welt gegeben hast. Sie waren dein, und du hast sie mir gegeben, und sie haben dein Wort bewahrt.7Nun wissen sie, dass alles, was du mir gegeben hast, von dir kommt.8Denn die Worte, die du mir gegeben hast, habe ich ihnen gegeben, und sie haben sie angenommen und wahrhaftig erkannt, dass ich von dir ausgegangen bin, und sie glauben, dass du mich gesandt hast. (Joh 16,30)9Ich bitte für sie. Nicht für die Welt bitte ich, sondern für die, die du mir gegeben hast, denn sie sind dein. (Joh 6,37; Joh 6,44)10Und alles, was mein ist, das ist dein, und was dein ist, das ist mein; und ich bin in ihnen verherrlicht. (Joh 16,15)11Und ich bin nicht mehr in der Welt; sie aber sind in der Welt, und ich komme zu dir. Heiliger Vater, erhalte sie in deinem Namen, den du mir gegeben hast, dass sie eins seien wie wir.12Solange ich bei ihnen war, erhielt ich sie in deinem Namen, den du mir gegeben hast, und ich habe sie bewahrt, und keiner von ihnen ist verloren außer dem Sohn des Verderbens, damit die Schrift erfüllt werde. (Ps 41,10; Joh 6,39)13Nun aber komme ich zu dir, und dies rede ich in der Welt, auf dass meine Freude in ihnen vollkommen sei. (Joh 15,11)14Ich habe ihnen dein Wort gegeben, und die Welt hasst sie; denn sie sind nicht von der Welt, wie auch ich nicht von der Welt bin. (Joh 15,19)15Ich bitte nicht, dass du sie aus der Welt nimmst, sondern dass du sie bewahrst vor dem Bösen. (Mt 6,13; 2Thess 3,3)16Sie sind nicht von der Welt, wie auch ich nicht von der Welt bin.17Heilige sie in der Wahrheit; dein Wort ist die Wahrheit. (Ps 119,160)18Wie du mich gesandt hast in die Welt, so habe auch ich sie in die Welt gesandt. (Joh 20,21)19Ich heilige mich selbst für sie, auf dass auch sie geheiligt seien in der Wahrheit. (Hebr 10,10)20Ich bitte aber nicht allein für sie, sondern auch für die, die durch ihr Wort an mich glauben werden, (Röm 10,17)21dass sie alle eins seien. Wie du, Vater, in mir bist und ich in dir, so sollen auch sie in uns sein, auf dass die Welt glaube, dass du mich gesandt hast. (Gal 3,28)22Und ich habe ihnen die Herrlichkeit gegeben, die du mir gegeben hast, auf dass sie eins seien, wie wir eins sind, (Apg 4,32)23ich in ihnen und du in mir, auf dass sie vollkommen eins seien und die Welt erkenne, dass du mich gesandt hast und sie liebst, wie du mich liebst. (1Kor 6,17)24Vater, ich will, dass, wo ich bin, auch die bei mir seien, die du mir gegeben hast, damit sie meine Herrlichkeit sehen, die du mir gegeben hast; denn du hast mich geliebt, ehe die Welt gegründet war. (Spr 8,22; Joh 12,26)25Gerechter Vater, die Welt kennt dich nicht; ich aber kenne dich, und diese haben erkannt, dass du mich gesandt hast.26Und ich habe ihnen deinen Namen kundgetan und werde ihn kundtun, damit die Liebe, mit der du mich liebst, in ihnen sei und ich in ihnen.
1After Jesus said this, he looked towards heaven and prayed. He said, ‘Father, the time has come. Bring glory to your Son. Then your Son will bring glory to you.2You gave him authority over all people. He gives eternal life to all those you have given him.3And what is eternal life? It is knowing you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.4I have brought you glory on earth. I have finished the work you gave me to do.5So now, Father, give glory to me in heaven where your throne is. Give me the glory I had with you before the world began.
Jesus prays for his disciples
6‘I have shown you to the disciples you gave me out of the world. They were yours. You gave them to me. And they have obeyed your word.7Now they know that everything you have given me comes from you.8I gave them the words you gave me. And they accepted them. They knew for certain that I came from you. They believed that you sent me.9I pray for them. I am not praying for the world. I am praying for those you have given me, because they are yours.10All I have is yours, and all you have is mine. Glory has come to me because of my disciples.11I will not remain in the world any longer. But they are still in the world, and I am coming to you. Holy Father, keep them safe by the power of your name. It is the name you gave me. Keep them safe so they can be one, just as you and I are one.12While I was with them, I guarded them. I kept them safe through the name you gave me. None of them has been lost, except the one who was heading for ruin. It happened so that Scripture would come true.13‘I am coming to you now. But I say these things while I am still in the world. I say them so that those you gave me can have the same joy that I have.14I have given them your word. The world has hated them. That’s because they are not part of the world any more than I am.15I do not pray that you will take them out of the world. I pray that you will keep them safe from the evil one.16They do not belong to the world, just as I do not belong to it.17Use the truth to make them holy. Your word is truth.18You sent me into the world. In the same way, I have sent them into the world.19I make myself holy for them so that they too can be made holy by the truth.
Jesus prays for all believers
20‘I do not pray only for them. I pray also for everyone who will believe in me because of their message.21Father, I pray they will be one, just as you are in me and I am in you. I want them also to be in us. Then the world will believe that you have sent me.22I have given them the glory you gave me. I did this so they would be one, just as we are one.23I will be in them, just as you are in me. This is so that they may be brought together perfectly as one. Then the world will know that you sent me. It will also show the world that you have loved those you gave me, just as you have loved me.24‘Father, I want those you have given me to be with me where I am. I want them to see my glory, the glory you have given me. You gave it to me because you loved me before the world was created.25‘Father, you are holy. The world does not know you, but I know you. Those you have given me know you have sent me.26I have shown you to them. And I will continue to show you to them. Then the love you have for me will be in them. I myself will be in them.’
