Warnung vor Unfriede

1 Woher kommt Streit, woher Krieg unter euch? Kommt’s nicht daher: aus euren Gelüsten, die da streiten in euren Gliedern? 2 Ihr seid begierig und erlangt’s nicht; ihr mordet und neidet und gewinnt nichts; ihr streitet und kämpft; ihr habt nichts, weil ihr nicht bittet; (Gal 5,15) 3 ihr bittet und empfangt’s nicht, weil ihr in übler Absicht bittet, nämlich damit ihr’s für eure Gelüste vergeuden könnt. 4 Ihr Ehebrecher, wisst ihr nicht, dass Freundschaft mit der Welt Feindschaft mit Gott ist? Wer der Welt Freund sein will, der wird Gottes Feind sein. (Lk 6,26; Röm 8,7; 1Joh 2,15) 5 Oder meint ihr, die Schrift sage umsonst: Der Geist, den er in uns wohnen ließ, drängt nach Neid; 6 doch Gott gibt größere Gnade. Darum heißt es: »Gott widersteht den Hochmütigen, aber den Demütigen gibt er Gnade.« (Hi 22,29; Mt 23,12; 1Petr 5,5) 7 So seid nun Gott untertan. Widersteht dem Teufel, so flieht er von euch. (1Petr 5,8) 8 Naht euch zu Gott, so naht er sich zu euch. Reinigt die Hände, ihr Sünder, und heiligt eure Herzen, ihr Wankelmütigen. (Ps 24,4; Jes 1,16; Sach 1,3) 9 Klagt, trauert und weint; euer Lachen verkehre sich in Weinen und eure Freude in Traurigkeit. 10 Demütigt euch vor dem Herrn, so wird er euch erhöhen. (1Petr 5,6) 11 Verleumdet einander nicht. Wer seinen Bruder verleumdet oder seinen Bruder verurteilt, der verleumdet und verurteilt das Gesetz. Verurteilst du aber das Gesetz, so bist du nicht ein Täter des Gesetzes, sondern ein Richter. 12 Einer ist der Gesetzgeber und Richter, der selig machen und verdammen kann. Wer aber bist du, dass du den Nächsten verurteilst? (Mt 7,1; Röm 14,4)

Warnung vor Selbstsicherheit

13 Wohlan nun, die ihr sagt: Heute oder morgen wollen wir in die oder die Stadt gehen und wollen ein Jahr dort zubringen und Handel treiben und Gewinn machen –, (Spr 27,1) 14 und wisst nicht, was morgen sein wird. Was ist euer Leben? Dunst seid ihr, der eine kleine Zeit bleibt und dann verschwindet. (Lk 12,20) 15 Dagegen solltet ihr sagen: Wenn der Herr will, werden wir leben und dies oder das tun. (Apg 18,21; 1Kor 4,19) 16 Nun aber rühmt ihr euch in eurem Übermut. All solches Rühmen ist böse. 17 Wer nun weiß, Gutes zu tun, und tut’s nicht, dem ist’s Sünde. (Lk 12,47)

Obey God

1 Why do you fight and argue among yourselves? Isn’t it because of your sinful desires? They fight within you. 2 You want something, but you don’t have it. So you kill. You want what others have, but you can’t get what you want. So you argue and fight. You don’t have what you want, because you don’t ask God. 3 When you do ask for something, you don’t receive it. That’s because you ask for the wrong reason. You want to spend your money on your sinful pleasures. 4 You are not faithful to God. Don’t you know that to be a friend of the world is to hate God? So anyone who chooses to be the world’s friend becomes God’s enemy. 5 Don’t you know what Scripture says? God wants the spirit in us to belong only to him. God caused this spirit to live in us. Don’t you think Scripture has a reason for saying this? 6 But God continues to give us more grace. That’s why Scripture says, ‘God opposes those who are proud. But he gives grace to those who are humble.’ (Spr 3,34) 7 So obey God. Stand up to the devil. He will run away from you. 8 Come near to God, and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners. Make your hearts pure, you who can’t make up your minds. 9 Be full of sorrow. Cry and weep. Change your laughter to mourning. Change your joy to sadness. 10 Be humble in front of the Lord. And he will lift you up. 11 My brothers and sisters, don’t speak against one another. Anyone who speaks against a brother or sister speaks against the law. And anyone who judges another believer judges the law. When you judge the law, you are not keeping it. Instead, you are acting as if you were its judge. 12 There is only one Lawgiver and Judge. He is the God who is able to save life or destroy it. But who are you to judge your neighbour?

Bragging about tomorrow

13 Now listen, you who say, ‘Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city. We will spend a year there. We will buy and sell and make money.’ 14 You don’t even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? It is a mist that appears for a little while. Then it disappears. 15 Instead, you should say, ‘If it pleases the Lord, we will live and do this or that.’ 16 As it is, you boast. You boast about the evil plans your pride produces. This kind of boasting is evil. 17 So suppose someone knows the good deeds they should do. But suppose they don’t do them. By not doing these good deeds, they sin.
