1Der HERR aber sprach zu Mose und Aaron in Ägyptenland: (4Mo 9,1; 5Mo 16,1)2Dieser Monat soll bei euch der erste Monat sein, und von ihm an sollt ihr die Monate des Jahres zählen. (2Mo 13,4)3Sagt der ganzen Gemeinde Israel: Am zehnten Tage dieses Monats nehme jeder Hausvater ein Lamm, je ein Lamm für ein Haus.4Wenn aber in einem Hause für ein Lamm zu wenige sind, so nehme er’s mit seinem Nachbarn, der seinem Hause am nächsten wohnt, bis es so viele sind, dass sie das Lamm aufessen können.5Ihr sollt aber ein solches Lamm nehmen, an dem kein Fehler ist, ein männliches Tier, ein Jahr alt. Von den Schafen und Ziegen sollt ihr’s nehmen (3Mo 22,20)6und sollt es verwahren bis zum vierzehnten Tag des Monats. Da soll es die ganze Versammlung der Gemeinde Israel schlachten gegen Abend.7Und sie sollen von seinem Blut nehmen und beide Pfosten an der Tür und den Türsturz damit bestreichen an den Häusern, in denen sie’s essen,8und sollen das Fleisch essen in derselben Nacht, am Feuer gebraten, und ungesäuertes Brot dazu und sollen es mit bitteren Kräutern essen.9Ihr sollt es weder roh essen noch mit Wasser gekocht, sondern am Feuer gebraten mit Kopf, Schenkeln und inneren Teilen. (5Mo 16,7)10Und ihr sollt nichts davon übrig lassen bis zum Morgen; wenn aber etwas übrig bleibt bis zum Morgen, sollt ihr’s mit Feuer verbrennen.11So sollt ihr’s aber essen: Um eure Lenden sollt ihr gegürtet sein und eure Schuhe an euren Füßen haben und den Stab in der Hand und sollt es in Eile essen; es ist des HERRN Passa. (5Mo 16,3; Jes 52,12)12Denn ich will in derselben Nacht durch Ägyptenland gehen und alle Erstgeburt schlagen in Ägyptenland unter Mensch und Vieh und will Strafgericht halten über alle Götter der Ägypter. Ich bin der HERR. (4Mo 33,4)13Dann aber soll das Blut euer Zeichen sein an den Häusern, in denen ihr seid: Wo ich das Blut sehe, will ich an euch vorübergehen, und die Plage soll euch nicht widerfahren, die das Verderben bringt, wenn ich Ägyptenland schlage. (2Mo 30,12; Hebr 11,28)14Ihr sollt diesen Tag als Gedenktag haben und sollt ihn feiern als ein Fest für den HERRN, ihr und alle eure Nachkommen, als ewige Ordnung.15Sieben Tage sollt ihr ungesäuertes Brot essen. Schon am ersten Tag sollt ihr den Sauerteig aus euren Häusern tun. Wer gesäuertes Brot isst, vom ersten Tag an bis zum siebenten, der soll ausgerottet werden aus Israel. (2Mo 13,7; 2Mo 23,15)16Am ersten Tag soll heilige Versammlung sein und am siebenten soll auch heilige Versammlung sein. Keine Arbeit sollt ihr dann tun; nur was jeder zur Speise braucht, das allein dürft ihr euch zubereiten.17Haltet das Gebot der ungesäuerten Brote. Denn eben an diesem Tage habe ich eure Scharen aus Ägyptenland geführt; darum sollt ihr diesen Tag halten, ihr und alle eure Nachkommen, als ewige Ordnung.18Am vierzehnten Tage des ersten Monats am Abend sollt ihr ungesäuertes Brot essen bis zum Abend des einundzwanzigsten Tages des Monats,19sodass man sieben Tage lang keinen Sauerteig finde in euren Häusern. Denn wer gesäuertes Brot isst, der soll ausgerottet werden aus der Gemeinde Israel, sei es ein Fremdling oder ein Einheimischer im Lande.20Keinerlei gesäuertes Brot sollt ihr essen, sondern nur ungesäuertes Brot, wo immer ihr wohnt.21Und Mose rief alle Ältesten Israels und sprach zu ihnen: Lest Schafe aus und nehmt sie für euch nach euren Geschlechtern und schlachtet das Passa.22Und nehmt ein Büschel Ysop und taucht es in das Blut in dem Becken und bestreicht damit den Türsturz und die beiden Pfosten. Und keiner von euch gehe zu seiner Haustür heraus bis zum Morgen. (2Mo 13,1)23Denn der HERR wird umhergehen und die Ägypter schlagen. Wenn er aber das Blut sehen wird am Türsturz und an den beiden Pfosten, wird er an der Tür vorübergehen und den Verderber nicht in eure Häuser kommen lassen, um euch zu schlagen.24Darum so halte diese Ordnung für dich und deine Nachkommen ewiglich.25Und wenn ihr in das Land kommt, das euch der HERR geben wird, wie er gesagt hat, so haltet fest an diesem Brauch.26Und wenn eure Kinder zu euch sagen werden: Was habt ihr da für einen Brauch?,27sollt ihr sagen: Es ist das Passaopfer des HERRN, der an den Israeliten vorüberging in Ägypten, als er die Ägypter schlug und unsere Häuser errettete. Da neigte sich das Volk und betete an.28Und die Israeliten gingen hin und taten, wie der HERR es Mose und Aaron geboten hatte.
Der Tod der Erstgeburt
29Und zur Mitternacht schlug der HERR alle Erstgeburt in Ägyptenland vom ersten Sohn des Pharao an, der auf seinem Thron saß, bis zum ersten Sohn des Gefangenen im Gefängnis und alle Erstgeburt des Viehs. (2Mo 4,23)30Da stand der Pharao auf in derselben Nacht und alle seine Großen und alle Ägypter, und es ward ein großes Geschrei in Ägypten; denn es war kein Haus, in dem nicht ein Toter war. (2Mo 11,6)31Und er ließ Mose und Aaron rufen in der Nacht und sprach: Macht euch auf und zieht weg aus meinem Volk, ihr und die Israeliten. Geht hin und dient dem HERRN, wie ihr gesagt habt.32Nehmt auch mit euch eure Schafe und Rinder, wie ihr gesagt habt. Geht hin und bittet auch um Segen für mich. (2Mo 10,26; Esr 6,10)33Und die Ägypter drängten das Volk und trieben es eilends aus dem Lande; denn sie sprachen: Wir sind alle des Todes. (2Mo 6,1)34Und das Volk trug den rohen Teig, ehe er durchsäuert war, ihre Backschüsseln in ihre Mäntel gewickelt, auf ihren Schultern.35Und die Israeliten hatten getan, wie Mose gesagt hatte, und hatten sich von den Ägyptern silberne und goldene Gefäße und Kleider geben lassen. (2Mo 11,2)36Dazu hatte der HERR dem Volk Gunst verschafft bei den Ägyptern, dass sie ihnen willfährig waren, und so nahmen sie es den Ägyptern weg. (2Mo 3,21)
Der Aufbruch Israels
37Also zogen die Israeliten aus von Ramses nach Sukkot, sechshunderttausend Mann zu Fuß ohne die Frauen und Kinder.38Und es zog auch mit ihnen viel fremdes Volk, dazu Schafe und Rinder, sehr viel Vieh.39Und sie backten aus dem rohen Teig, den sie aus Ägypten mitbrachten, ungesäuerte Brote; denn er war nicht gesäuert, weil sie aus Ägypten weggetrieben wurden und sich nicht länger aufhalten konnten und keine Wegzehrung zubereitet hatten.40Die Zeit aber, die die Israeliten in Ägypten gewohnt haben, ist vierhundertdreißig Jahre. (1Mo 15,13)41Als diese um waren, an ebendiesem Tage zog das ganze Heer des HERRN aus Ägyptenland.42Eine Nacht des Wachens war dies für den HERRN, um sie aus Ägyptenland zu führen; darum sollen die Israeliten diese Nacht dem HERRN zu Ehren wachen, sie und ihre Nachkommen. (Jes 30,29)
Über Fremde beim Passa
43Und der HERR sprach zu Mose und Aaron: Dies ist die Ordnung für das Passa: Kein Fremder soll davon essen.44Ist er ein gekaufter Sklave, so beschneide man ihn; dann darf er davon essen. (1Mo 17,12)45Ist er aber ein Beisasse oder Tagelöhner, so darf er nicht davon essen.46In einem einzigen Hause soll man es verzehren; ihr sollt nichts von seinem Fleisch hinaus vor das Haus tragen und sollt keinen Knochen an ihm zerbrechen. (Joh 19,36)47Die ganze Gemeinde Israel soll das tun.48Wenn ein Fremdling bei dir wohnt und dem HERRN das Passa halten will, der beschneide alles, was männlich ist; alsdann trete er herzu, dass er es halte, und er sei wie ein Einheimischer des Landes. Aber ein Unbeschnittener darf nicht davon essen.49Ein und dasselbe Gesetz gelte für den Einheimischen und den Fremdling, der unter euch wohnt. (3Mo 19,34; 3Mo 24,22)50Und alle Israeliten taten, wie der HERR es Mose und Aaron geboten hatte.51An ebendiesem Tage führte der HERR die Israeliten aus Ägyptenland, Schar um Schar.
1The LORD spoke to Moses and Aaron in Egypt.2He said, ‘From now on, this month will be your first month. Each of your years will begin with it.3Speak to the whole community of Israel. Tell them that on the tenth day of this month each man must get a lamb from his flock. A lamb should be chosen for each family and home.4Suppose there are not enough people in your family to eat a whole lamb. Then you must share some of it with your nearest neighbour. You must add up the total number of people there are. You must decide how much lamb is needed for each person.5The animals you choose must be males that are a year old. They must not have any flaws. You may choose either sheep or goats.6Take care of them until the 14th day of the month. Then the whole community of Israel must kill them when the sun goes down.7Take some of the blood. Put it on the sides and tops of the doorframes of the houses where you eat the lambs.8That same night eat the meat cooked over a fire. Also eat bitter plants. And eat bread made without yeast.9Do not eat the meat when it is raw. Don’t boil it in water. Instead, cook it over a fire. Cook the head, legs and inside parts.10Do not leave any of it until morning. If some is left over until morning, burn it up.11Eat the meat while your coat is tucked into your belt. Put your sandals on your feet. Take your walking stick in your hand. Eat the food quickly. It is the LORD’s Passover.12‘That same night I will pass through Egypt. I will strike down all those born first among the people and animals. And I will judge all the gods of Egypt. I am the LORD.13The blood on your houses will be a sign for you. When I see the blood, I will pass over you. No deadly plague will touch you when I strike Egypt.14‘Always remember this day. You and your children after you must celebrate this day as a feast to honour the LORD. You must do this for all time to come. It is a law that will last for ever.15For seven days eat bread made without yeast. On the first day remove the yeast from your homes. For the next seven days, anyone who eats anything with yeast in it must be separated from Israel.16On the first and seventh days, come together for a sacred assembly. Do not work at all on these days. The only thing you are allowed to do is prepare food for everyone to eat.17‘Celebrate the Feast of Unleavened Bread. I brought you out of Egypt on this very day like an army on the march. It is a law that will last for all time to come.18In the first month eat bread made without yeast. Eat it from the evening of the 14th day until the evening of the 21st day.19For seven days do not let any yeast be found in your homes. Anyone who eats anything with yeast in it must be separated from the community of Israel. That applies to outsiders and Israelites alike.20Do not eat anything made with yeast. No matter where you live, eat bread made without yeast.’21Then Moses sent for all the elders of Israel. He said to them, ‘Go at once. Choose the animals for your families. Each family must kill a Passover lamb.22Get a branch of a hyssop plant. Dip it into the blood in the bowl. Put some of the blood on the top and on both sides of the doorframe. None of you can go out of the door of your house until morning.23The LORD will go through the land to strike down the Egyptians. He’ll see the blood on the top and sides of the doorframe. He will pass over that house. He won’t let the destroying angel enter your homes to strike you down.24‘Obey all these directions. It’s a law for you and your children after you for all time to come.25The LORD will give you the land, just as he promised. When you enter it, keep this holy day.26Your children will ask you, “What does this holy day mean to you?”27Tell them, “It’s the Passover sacrifice to honour the LORD. He passed over the houses of the Israelites in Egypt. He spared our homes when he struck down the Egyptians.” ’ Then the Israelites bowed down and worshipped.28They did just what the LORD commanded Moses and Aaron.29At midnight the LORD struck down every eldest son in Egypt. He killed the eldest son of Pharaoh, who sat on the throne. He killed all the eldest sons of prisoners. He also killed all the male animals born first to their mothers among the livestock.30Pharaoh and all his officials got up during the night. So did all the Egyptians. There was loud crying in Egypt because someone had died in every home.
The exodus
31During the night, Pharaoh sent for Moses and Aaron. He said to them, ‘Get out of here! You and the Israelites, leave my people! Go. Worship the LORD, just as you have asked.32Go. Take your flocks and herds, just as you have said. And also give me your blessing.’33The Egyptians begged the people of Israel to hurry up and leave the country. ‘If you don’t,’ they said, ‘we’ll all die!’34So the people took their dough before the yeast was added to it. They carried it on their shoulders in bowls for kneading bread. The bowls were wrapped in clothes.35They did just as Moses had instructed them. They asked the Egyptians for things made out of silver and gold. They also asked them for clothes.36The LORD had caused the Egyptians to treat the Israelites in a kind way. So the Egyptians gave them what they asked for. The Israelites took many expensive things that belonged to the Egyptians.37The Israelites travelled from Rameses to Sukkoth. There were about 600,000 men old enough to go into battle. The women and children went with them.38So did many other people. The Israelites also took large flocks and herds with them.39The Israelites brought dough from Egypt. With it they baked loaves of bread without yeast. The dough didn’t have any yeast in it. That’s because the people had been driven out of Egypt before they had time to prepare their food.40The Israelites lived in Egypt for 430 years.41Then all the LORD’s people marched out of Egypt like an army. That happened at the end of the 430 years, to the exact day.42The LORD kept watch that night to bring them out of Egypt. So on that same night every year all the Israelites must keep watch. They must do it to honour the LORD for all time to come.
Rules for the Passover
43The LORD said to Moses and Aaron, ‘Here are the rules for the Passover meal. ‘No one from another country is allowed to eat it.44Any slave you have bought is allowed to eat it after you have circumcised him.45But a hired worker or someone who lives with you for a short time is not allowed to eat it.46‘It must be eaten inside the house. Do not take any of the meat outside. Do not break any of the bones.47The whole community of Israel must celebrate the Passover.48‘Suppose an outsider living among you wants to celebrate the LORD’s Passover. Then all the males in that home must be circumcised. After that, the person can take part, just like an Israelite. Only circumcised males may eat it.49The same law applies to Israelites and to outsiders living among you.’50All the people of Israel did just what the LORD had commanded Moses and Aaron.51On that day the LORD brought the Israelites out of Egypt like an army on the march.
