Ankündigung von Segen und Fluch

1 Wenn du nun der Stimme des HERRN, deines Gottes, gehorchen wirst, dass du hältst und tust alle seine Gebote, die ich dir heute gebiete, so wird dich der HERR, dein Gott, zum höchsten über alle Völker auf Erden machen. (5Mo 26,19) 2 Und es werden über dich kommen alle diese Segnungen, und sie werden dich treffen, weil du der Stimme des HERRN, deines Gottes, gehorsam gewesen bist. 3 Gesegnet wirst du sein in der Stadt, gesegnet wirst du sein auf dem Acker. (1Mo 49,25) 4 Gesegnet wird sein die Frucht deines Leibes, der Ertrag deines Ackers und die Jungtiere deines Viehs, deiner Rinder und deiner Schafe. 5 Gesegnet wird sein dein Korb und dein Backtrog. 6 Gesegnet wirst du sein bei deinem Eingang und gesegnet bei deinem Ausgang. (Ps 121,8) 7 Und der HERR wird deine Feinde, die sich gegen dich erheben, vor dir schlagen. Auf einem Weg sollen sie ausziehen wider dich und auf sieben Wegen vor dir fliehen. 8 Der HERR wird gebieten dem Segen, dass er mit dir sei in deinen Scheunen und in allem, was du unternimmst, und wird dich segnen in dem Land, das dir der HERR, dein Gott, gibt. (3Mo 25,21) 9 Der HERR wird dich zum heiligen Volk für sich erheben, wie er dir geschworen hat, weil du die Gebote des HERRN, deines Gottes, hältst und in seinen Wegen wandelst. (2Mo 19,5) 10 Und alle Völker auf Erden werden sehen, dass über dir der Name des HERRN genannt ist, und werden sich vor dir fürchten. 11 Und der HERR wird machen, dass du Überfluss an Gutem haben wirst, an Frucht deines Leibes, an Jungtieren deines Viehs, an Ertrag deines Ackers, in dem Lande, das der HERR deinen Vätern geschworen hat, dir zu geben. 12 Und der HERR wird dir seinen guten Schatz auftun, den Himmel, dass er deinem Land Regen gebe zur rechten Zeit und dass er segne alle Werke deiner Hände. Und du wirst vielen Völkern leihen, aber von niemand borgen. (5Mo 15,6) 13 Und der HERR wird dich zum Kopf machen und nicht zum Schwanz, und du wirst immer aufwärtssteigen und nicht heruntersinken, weil du gehorsam bist den Geboten des HERRN, deines Gottes, die ich dir heute gebiete zu halten und zu tun, 14 und nicht abweichst von all den Worten, die ich euch heute gebiete, weder zur Rechten noch zur Linken, und nicht andern Göttern nachwandelst, um ihnen zu dienen. (5Mo 5,29; 5Mo 5,32) 15 Wenn du aber nicht gehorchen wirst der Stimme des HERRN, deines Gottes, und wirst nicht halten und tun alle seine Gebote und Rechte, die ich dir heute gebiete, so werden alle diese Flüche über dich kommen und dich treffen: (Dan 9,11) 16 Verflucht wirst du sein in der Stadt, verflucht wirst du sein auf dem Acker. 17 Verflucht wird sein dein Korb und dein Backtrog. 18 Verflucht wird sein die Frucht deines Leibes, der Ertrag deines Ackers, das Jungvieh deiner Rinder und Schafe. 19 Verflucht wirst du sein bei deinem Eingang und verflucht bei deinem Ausgang. 20 Der HERR wird unter dich senden Unfrieden, Unruhe und Unglück in allem, was du unternimmst, bis du vertilgt bist und bald untergegangen bist um deines bösen Treibens willen, weil du mich verlassen hast. 21 Der HERR wird dir die Pest anhängen, bis er dich vertilgt hat in dem Lande, in das du kommst, es einzunehmen. 22 Der HERR wird dich schlagen mit Auszehrung, Entzündung, Fieber, Wundbrand, Dürre, Getreidebrand und Getreiderost; die werden dich verfolgen, bis du umkommst. 23 Der Himmel, der über deinem Haupt ist, wird ehern werden und die Erde unter dir eisern. (5Mo 11,17) 24 Statt des Regens für dein Land wird der HERR Staub und Asche vom Himmel auf dich geben, bis du vertilgt bist. 25 Der HERR wird dich vor deinen Feinden schlagen. Auf einem Weg wirst du wider sie ausziehen, und auf sieben Wegen wirst du vor ihnen fliehen und wirst zum Entsetzen werden für alle Reiche auf Erden. 26 Deine Leichname werden zum Fraß werden allen Vögeln des Himmels und allen Tieren des Landes, und niemand wird sein, der sie verscheucht. (1Sam 17,45; 2Sam 21,10) 27 Der HERR wird dich schlagen mit ägyptischem Geschwür, Beulen, Krätze und Ausschlag, dass du nicht geheilt werden kannst. (2Mo 9,9) 28 Der HERR wird dich schlagen mit Wahnsinn, Blindheit und Verwirrung des Geistes. 29 Und du wirst tappen am Mittag, wie ein Blinder tappt im Dunkeln, und wirst auf deinem Wege kein Glück haben, sondern Gewalt und Unrecht leiden müssen dein Leben lang, und niemand wird dir helfen. (Jes 59,10) 30 Mit einer Frau wirst du dich verloben; aber ein anderer wird bei ihr schlafen. Ein Haus wirst du bauen; aber du wirst nicht darin wohnen. Einen Weinberg wirst du pflanzen; aber du wirst nichts von ihm haben. (Jes 65,22) 31 Dein Rind wird vor deinen Augen geschlachtet werden; aber du wirst nicht davon essen. Dein Esel wird vor deinem Angesicht mit Gewalt genommen und nicht zu dir zurückkommen. Dein Schaf wird deinen Feinden gegeben werden, und niemand wird dir helfen. 32 Deine Söhne und deine Töchter werden einem andern Volk gegeben werden, dass deine Augen zusehen müssen und täglich vor Verlangen nach ihnen vergehen, und in deinen Händen wird keine Kraft sein. 33 Den Ertrag deines Ackers und alle deine Arbeit wird ein Volk verzehren, das du nicht kennst, und du wirst geplagt und geschunden werden dein Leben lang (Ri 6,3) 34 und wirst wahnsinnig werden bei dem, was deine Augen sehen müssen. 35 Der HERR wird dich schlagen mit bösen Geschwüren an den Knien und Waden, dass du nicht geheilt werden kannst, von den Fußsohlen bis zum Scheitel. 36 Der HERR wird dich und deinen König, den du über dich gesetzt hast, unter ein Volk treiben, das du nicht kennst noch deine Väter, und du wirst dort andern Göttern dienen: Holz und Stein. (5Mo 4,28) 37 Und du wirst zum Entsetzen, zum Sprichwort und zum Spott werden unter allen Völkern, zu denen der HERR dich treibt. (1Kön 9,7; Jer 24,9) 38 Du wirst viel Samen auf das Feld säen, aber wenig einsammeln; denn die Heuschrecken werden’s abfressen. (Mi 6,15) 39 Weinberge wirst du pflanzen und bauen, aber weder Wein trinken noch Trauben lesen; denn die Würmer werden’s verzehren. 40 Ölbäume wirst du haben in deinem ganzen Gebiet, aber du wirst dich nicht salben mit Öl; denn dein Ölbaum wird seine Frucht abwerfen. 41 Söhne und Töchter wirst du zeugen und doch nicht behalten; denn sie werden gefangen weggeführt werden. 42 Über alle Bäume und Früchte deines Landes wird das Ungeziefer herfallen. 43 Der Fremdling, der bei dir ist, wird immer höher über dich emporsteigen; du aber wirst immer tiefer heruntersinken. 44 Er wird dir leihen, du aber wirst ihm nicht leihen können; er wird der Kopf sein, und du wirst der Schwanz sein. 45 Alle diese Flüche werden über dich kommen und dich verfolgen und treffen, bis du vertilgt bist, weil du der Stimme des HERRN, deines Gottes, nicht gehorcht und seine Gebote und Rechte nicht gehalten hast, die er dir geboten hat. 46 Und diese Flüche werden Zeichen und Wunder sein an dir und an deinen Nachkommen immerdar, 47 weil du dem HERRN, deinem Gott, nicht gedient hast mit Freude und Lust deines Herzens, obwohl du Überfluss hattest an allem. 48 Und du wirst deinem Feinde, den der HERR gegen dich schicken wird, dienen in Hunger und Durst, in Blöße und allerlei Mangel, und er wird ein eisernes Joch auf deinen Hals legen, bis er dich vertilgt hat. (Jer 28,13) 49 Der HERR wird ein Volk über dich schicken von ferne, vom Ende der Erde, wie ein Adler fliegt, ein Volk, dessen Sprache du nicht verstehst, (Jes 33,19; Jer 5,15; Hab 1,8) 50 ein freches Volk, das nicht Rücksicht nimmt auf die Alten und die Jungen nicht schont. (Kla 5,12) 51 Es wird verzehren die Jungtiere deines Viehs und den Ertrag deines Ackers, bis du vertilgt bist, und wird dir nichts übrig lassen vom Korn, Wein und Öl und vom Jungvieh deiner Rinder und Schafe, bis es dich umgebracht hat. 52 Es wird dich belagern in allen deinen Städten, bis es niedergeworfen hat deine hohen und festen Mauern, auf die du dich verlässt, in deinem ganzen Lande; und du wirst belagert werden in allen deinen Städten, in deinem ganzen Lande, das dir der HERR, dein Gott, gegeben hat. 53 Du wirst die Frucht deines Leibes, das Fleisch deiner Söhne und deiner Töchter, die dir der HERR, dein Gott, gegeben hat, essen in der Angst und Not, mit der dich dein Feind bedrängen wird. 54 Ein Mann unter euch, der zuvor verwöhnt und in Üppigkeit gelebt hat, wird seinem Bruder und der Frau in seinen Armen und dem Sohn, der noch übrig ist von seinen Söhnen, nichts gönnen 55 von dem Fleisch seiner Söhne, das er isst, weil ihm nichts übrig geblieben ist von allem Gut in der Angst und Not, mit der dich dein Feind bedrängen wird in allen deinen Städten. 56 Eine Frau unter euch, die zuvor so verwöhnt und in Üppigkeit gelebt hat, dass sie nicht einmal versucht hat, ihre Fußsohle auf die Erde zu setzen, vor Verwöhnung und Wohlleben, die wird dem Mann in ihren Armen und ihrem Sohn und ihrer Tochter nicht gönnen 57 die Nachgeburt, die von ihr ausgegangen ist, und ihr Kind, das sie geboren hat; denn sie wird beides vor Mangel an allem heimlich essen in der Angst und Not, mit der dich dein Feind bedrängen wird in deinen Städten. 58 Wenn du nicht darauf hältst, dass du alle Worte dieses Gesetzes tust, die in diesem Buch geschrieben sind, und nicht fürchtest diesen herrlichen und heiligen Namen, den HERRN, deinen Gott, 59 so wird der HERR schrecklich mit dir umgehen und dich und deine Nachkommen schlagen mit großen und anhaltenden Plagen, mit bösen und anhaltenden Krankheiten. 60 Und er wird auch alle Seuchen Ägyptens über dich bringen, vor denen du dich fürchtest, und sie werden dich nicht loslassen; (5Mo 27,1) 61 dazu wird der HERR alle Krankheiten und alle Plagen, die nicht geschrieben sind in dem Buch dieses Gesetzes, über dich kommen lassen, bis du vertilgt bist. 62 Und nur wenige werden übrig bleiben von euch, die ihr zuvor zahlreich gewesen seid wie die Sterne am Himmel, weil du nicht gehorcht hast der Stimme des HERRN, deines Gottes. 63 Und wie sich der HERR zuvor freute, euch Gutes zu tun und euch zu mehren, so wird er sich nun freuen, euch umzubringen und zu vertilgen, und ihr werdet herausgerissen werden aus dem Lande, in das du jetzt ziehst, es einzunehmen. (Spr 1,26) 64 Denn der HERR wird dich zerstreuen unter alle Völker von einem Ende der Erde bis ans andere, und du wirst dort andern Göttern dienen, die du nicht kennst noch deine Väter: Holz und Stein. 65 Dazu wirst du unter jenen Völkern keine Ruhe haben, und deine Füße werden keine Ruhestatt finden. Denn der HERR wird dir dort ein bebendes Herz geben und erlöschende Augen und eine verzagende Seele, 66 und dein Leben wird immerdar in Gefahr schweben; Nacht und Tag wirst du dich fürchten und deines Lebens nicht sicher sein. 67 Morgens wirst du sagen: Ach dass es Abend wäre!, und abends wirst du sagen: Ach dass es Morgen wäre!, vor Furcht deines Herzens, die dich schrecken wird, und vor dem, was du mit deinen Augen sehen wirst. 68 Und der HERR wird dich mit Schiffen wieder nach Ägypten führen, auf dem Wege, von dem ich dir gesagt habe: Du sollst ihn nicht mehr sehen. Und ihr werdet dort euren Feinden als Knechte und Mägde verkauft werden, aber es wird kein Käufer da sein. (5Mo 17,16; Hos 8,13)

Der Bund des Herrn mit Israel im Lande Moab

69 Dies sind die Worte des Bundes, den der HERR dem Mose geboten hat, mit Israel zu schließen im Lande Moab, neben dem Bund, den er mit ihnen geschlossen hatte am Horeb. (5Mo 5,2)

1 وَإِنْ أَطَعْتُمْ صَوْتَ الرَّبِّ طَاعَةً تَامَّةً، حِرْصاً مِنْكُمْ عَلَى تَنْفِيذِ جَمِيعِ وَصَايَاهُ الَّتِي أُوصِيكُمْ بِها الْيَوْمَ، فَإِنَّ الرَّبَّ إِلَهَكُمْ يَجْعَلُكُمْ أَسْمَى مِنْ جَمِيعِ أُمَمِ الأَرْضِ. 2 وَإذَا سَمِعْتُمْ لِصَوْتِ الرَّبِّ إِلَهِكُمْ فَإِنَّ جَمِيعَ هَذِهِ الْبَرَكَاتِ تَنْسَكِبُ عَلَيْكُمْ وَتُلازِمُكُمْ. 3 تَكُونُونَ مُبَارَكِينَ فِي الْمَدِينَةِ وَمُبَارَكِينَ فِي الْحُقُولِ. 4 كَمَا تَتَبَارَكُ ذُرِّيَّتُكُمْ، وَغَلّاتُ أَرْضِكُمْ، وَنِتَاجُ بَهَائِمِكُمْ وَبَقَرِكُمْ وَنِعَاجِكُمْ. 5 وَتَتَبَارَكُ أَيْضاً فَوَاكِهُ سِلالِكُمْ وَخُبْزُ مَعَاجِنِكُمْ. 6 وَتَكُونُونَ مُبَارَكِينَ فِي دُخُولِكُمْ وَخُرُوجِكُمْ 7 وَيَهْزِمُ الرَّبُّ أَمَامَكُمْ أَعْدَاءَكُمُ الْقَائِمِينَ عَلَيْكُمْ، فَيُقْبِلُونَ عَلَيْكُمْ فِي طَرِيقٍ وَاحِدَةٍ، وَلَكِنَّهُمْ يُوَلُّونَ الأَدْبَارَ أَمَامَكُمْ فِي سَبْعِ طُرُقٍ. 8 يَأْمُرُ الرَّبُّ لَكُمْ بِالْبَرَكَةِ، فَتَمْتَلِئُ خَزَائِنُكُمْ. وَيُبَارِكُ كُلَّ مَا تُنْتِجُهُ أَيْدِيكُمْ وَغَلّاتِ أَرْضِكُمُ الَّتِي يَهَبُهَا لَكُمْ. 9 وَإذَا حَفِظْتُمْ وَصَايَاهُ وَسَلَكْتُمْ فِي سُبُلِهِ فَإِنَّهُ يَجْعَلُكُمْ لِنَفْسِهِ شَعْباً مُقَدَّساً كَمَا حَلَفَ لَكُمْ، 10 فَتُدْرِكُ جَمِيعُ شُعُوبِ الأَرْضِ أَنَّ اسْمَ الرَّبِّ قَدْ حَلَّ عَلَيْكُمْ، وَيَخَافُونَكُمْ. 11 وَيَزِيدُكُمُ الرَّبُّ وَفْرَةً فَيُكَثِّرُ مِنْ أَبْنَائِكُمْ وَنِتَاجِ بَهَائِمِكُمْ وَمِنْ غَلّاتِ أَرْضِكُمُ الَّتِي حَلَفَ لِآبَائِكُمْ أَنْ يَهَبَهَا لَكُمْ. 12 وَيَفْتَحُ لَكُمُ الرَّبُّ كُنُوزَ سَمَائِهِ الصَّالِحَةَ، فَيُمْطِرُ عَلَى أَرْضِكُمْ فِي مَوَاسِمِهَا، وَيُبَارِكُ كُلَّ مَا تُنْتِجُهُ أَيْدِيكُمْ، فَتُقْرِضُونَ أُمَماً كَثِيرَةً وَأَنْتُمْ لَا تَقْتَرِضُونَ. 13 وَإذَا أَطَعْتُمْ وَصَايَا الرَّبِّ الَّتِي أَنَا آمُرُكُمْ بِها الْيَوْمَ لِتَحْفَظُوهَا وَتَعْمَلُوا بِها، فَإِنَّهُ يَجْعَلُكُمْ رُؤُوساً لَا أَذْنَاباً، مُتَسَامِينَ دَائِماً، وَلا يُدْرِكُكُمُ انْحِطَاطٌ أَبَداً. 14 لَا تَنْحَرِفُوا يَمِيناً أَوْ شِمَالاً عَنْ جَمِيعِ هَذِهِ الشَّرَائِعِ الَّتِي أَنَا أُوصِيكُمْ بِها الْيَوْمَ، لِكَيْ لَا تَغْوُوا وَرَاءَ آلِهَةٍ أُخْرَى لِتَعْبُدُوهَا.

15 وَلَكِنْ إِنْ عَصَيْتُمْ صَوْتَ الرَّبِّ إِلَهِكُمْ وَلَمْ تَحْرِصُوا عَلَى الْعَمَلِ بِجَمِيعِ وَصَايَاهُ وَفَرَائِضِهِ الَّتِي أَنَا آمُرُكُمُ الْيَوْمَ بِها، فَإِنَّ جَمِيعَ هَذِهِ اللَّعْنَاتِ تَحِلُّ بِكُمْ وَتُلازِمُكُمْ. 16 تَكُونُونَ مَلْعُونِينَ فِي الْمَدِينَةِ وَمَلْعُونِينَ فِي الْحُقُولِ. 17 وَتَكُونُ سِلالُكُمْ وَمَعَاجِنُكُمْ مَلْعُونَةً. 18 وَتَحِلُّ اللَّعْنَةُ بِأَبْنَائِكُمْ وَغَلّاتِ أَرْضِكُمْ وَنِتَاجِ بَقَرِكُمْ وَنِعَاجِكُمْ، 19 وَتَكُونُونَ مَلْعُونِينَ فِي ذِهَابِكُمْ وَإِيَابِكُمْ، 20 وَيَصُبُّ الرَّبُّ عَلَيْكُمُ اللَّعْنَةَ وَالْفَوْضَى وَالْفَشَلَ فِي كُلِّ مَا تُنْتِجُهُ أَيْدِيكُمْ، حَتَّى تَهْلِكُوا وَتَفْنَوْا سَرِيعاً لِسُوءِ أَفْعَالِكُمْ، إِذْ تَرَكْتُمُونِي. 21 وَيَتَفَشَّى بَيْنَكُمُ الْوَبَاءُ حَتَّى يُبِيدَكُمْ عَنِ الأَرْضِ الَّتِي أَنْتُمْ مَاضُونَ إِلَيْهَا لامْتِلاكِهَا، 22 وَيَضْرِبُكُمُ الرَّبُّ بِالسُّلِّ وَالْحُمَّى وَالرَّعْشَةِ وَالالْتِهَابِ وَالْجَفَافِ وَاللَّفْحِ وَالذُّبُولِ، فَتُلازِمُكُمْ حَتَّى تَفْنَوْا. 23 وَتُصْبِحُ السَّمَاءُ الَّتِي فَوْقَكُمْ كَالنُّحَاسِ وَالأَرْضُ تَحْتَكُمْ كَالْحَدِيدِ. 24 وَيُحَوِّلُ الرَّبُّ مَطَرَ أَرْضِكُمْ إِلَى غُبَارٍ وَعَوَاصِفَ تُرَابِيَّةٍ تَنْهَمِرُ عَلَيْكُمْ مِنَ السَّمَاءِ حَتَّى تَهْلِكُوا. 25 وَيَهْزِمُكُمُ الرَّبُّ أَمَامَ أَعْدَائِكُمْ فَتُقْبِلُونَ عَلَيْهِمْ فِي طَرِيقٍ وَاحِدَةٍ وَتُوَلُّونَ الأَدْبَارَ أَمَامَهُمْ مُتَفَرِّقِينَ فِي سَبْعِ طُرُقٍ، وَتُصْبِحُونَ عِبْرَةً لِجَمِيعِ مَمَالِكِ الأَرْضِ. 26 وَتَكُونُ جُثَثُكُمْ طَعَاماً لِجَمِيعِ طُيُورِ السَّمَاءِ وَوُحُوشِ الأَرْضِ وَلا يَطْرُدُهَا أَحَدٌ. 27 وَيُصِيبُكُمُ الرَّبُّ بِدَاءِ قُرْحَةِ مِصْرَ وَبِالْبَوَاسِيرِ وَالْجَرَبِ وَالْحِكَّةِ، وَلا تَجِدُونَ لَهَا عِلاجاً. 28 وَيَبْتَلِيكُمُ الرَّبُّ بِالْجُنُونِ وَالْعَمَى وَارْتِبَاكِ الْفِكْرِ، 29 فَتَتَحَسَّسُونَ طُرُقَكُمْ فِي الظُّهْرِ كَمَا يَتَحَسَّسُ الأَعْمَى طَرِيقَهُ فِي الظَّلامِ، وَتَبُوءُ طُرُقُكُمْ بِالإِخْفَاقِ، وَلا تَكُونُونَ إِلّا مَظْلُومِينَ مَغْصُوبِينَ كُلَّ الأَيَّامِ، وَلَيْسَ مِنْ مُنْقِذٍ. 30 يَخْطُبُ أَحَدُكُمُ امْرَأَةً وَلَكِنَّ آخَرَ يَتَزَوَّجُهَا وَيُضَاجِعُهَا. تَبْنِي بَيْتاً وَلا تَسْكُنُ فِيهِ، وَتَغْرِسُ كَرْماً وَلا تَجْنِيهِ. 31 يُذْبَحُ ثَوْرُكَ أَمَامَ عَيْنَيْكَ وَلا تَأْكُلُ مِنْهُ، وَيُغْتَصَبُ حِمَارُكَ عَلَى مَرْأَىً مِنْكَ وَلا يُرَدُّ إِلَيْكَ، وَيَسْتَوْلِي أَعْدَاؤُكَ عَلَى مَاشِيَتِكَ وَلَيْسَ مِنْ مُنْقِذٍ. 32 يُسَاقُ أَوْلادُكَ وَبَنَاتُكَ إِلَى أُمَّةٍ أُخْرَى وَعَيْنَاكَ تُرَاقِبَانِهِمْ طَوَالَ النَّهَارِ، حَتَّى تَكِلّا، وَمَا فِي يَدِكَ حِيلَةٌ. 33 مَحْصُولُ أَرْضِكَ وَثَمَرُ تَعَبِكَ يَأْكُلُهُ شَعْبٌ غَرِيبٌ عَنْكَ، وَلا تَكُونُ سِوَى مَظْلُومٍ مَسْحُوقٍ دَائِماً. 34 وَيُصِيبُكَ الْجُنُونُ مِنْ هَوْلِ مَا تَرَى. 35 وَيَبْتَلِيكَ الرَّبُّ بِقُرُوحٍ خَبِيثَةٍ تُغَطِّي الرُّكْبَتَيْنِ وَالسَّاقَيْنِ، حَتَّى لَا تَجِدَ لَهَا شِفَاءً مِنْ قِمَّةِ يَنْخَرُهَا. 40 تَكْتَظُّ أَرَاضِيكُمْ بِأَشْجَارِ الزَّيْتُونِ، وَلَكِنْ مِنْ زَيْتِهَا لَا تَدَّهِنُونَ، لأَنَّ زَيْتُونَكُمْ يَنْتَثِرُ عَلَى الأَرْضِ قَبْلَ نُضْجِهِ. 41 تُنْجِبُونَ بَنِينَ وَبَنَاتٍ وَلا يَكُونُونَ لَكُمْ، لأَنَّهُمْ يُسْبَوْنَ. 42 تَلْتَهِمُ أَسْرَابُ الْجَرَادِ أَشْجَارَكُمْ وَغَلّاتِ أَرْضِكُمْ. 43 يَعْظُمُ شَأْنُ الْغُرَبَاءِ الْمُقِيمِينَ بَيْنَكُمْ، وَيَتَفَاقَمُ انْحِطَاطُ شَأْنِكُمْ. 44 هُمْ يُقْرِضُونَكُمْ وَأَنْتُمْ لَا تُقْرِضُونَهُمْ، وَهُمْ يَكُونُونَ رَأْساً وَأَنْتُمْ تَكُونُونَ ذَنَباً، 45 وَتَحِلُّ بِكُمْ هَذِهِ اللَّعْنَاتُ وَتُلازِمُكُمْ وَتُلاحِقُكُمْ حَتَّى تَهْلِكُوا، لأَنَّكُمْ لَمْ تُطِيعُوا صَوْتَ الرَّبِّ إِلَهِكُمْ لِتَحْفَظُوا وَصَايَاهُ وَفَرَائِضَهُ الَّتِي أَمَرَكُمْ بِها، 46 فَتَكُونُ فِيكُمْ وَفِي ذُرِّيَّتِكُمْ عِبْرَةً وَنَذِيراً إِلَى الأَبَدِ. 47 وَلأَنَّكُمْ لَمْ تَعْبُدُوا الرَّبَّ إِلَهَكُمْ بِفَرَحٍ وَغِبْطَةٍ فِي زَمَنِ الازْدِهَارِ وَالْوَفْرَةِ، 48 فَإِنَّكُمْ تُصْبِحُونَ عَبِيداً لأَعْدَائِكُمُ الَّذِينَ يُرْسِلُهُمُ الرَّبُّ عَلَيْكُمْ فِي أَحْوَالِ الْجُوعِ وَالْعَطَشِ وَالْعُرْيِ وَالْفَاقَةِ، وَيَضَعُ نِيرَ حَدِيدٍ عَلَى أَعْنَاقِكُمْ حَتَّى يُهْلِكَكُمْ. 49 وَيَجْلِبُ الرَّبُّ عَلَيْكُمْ مِنْ بَعِيدٍ، مِنْ أَقْصَى الأَرْضِ، أُمَّةً لَا تَفْهَمُونَ لُغَتَهَا، فَتَنْقَضُّ عَلَيْكُمْ كَالنَّسْرِ. 50 أُمَّةً يُثِيرُ مَنْظَرُهَا الرُّعْبَ، لَا تَهَابُ الشَّيْخَ وَلا تَرْأَفُ بِالطِّفْلِ، 51 فَتَسْتَوْلِي عَلَى نِتَاجِ بَهَائِمِكُمْ، وَتَلْتَهِمُ غَلّاتِ أَرْضِكُمْ حَتَّى تَفْنَوْا، وَلا تُبْقِي لَكُمْ قَمْحاً وَلا خَمْراً وَلا زَيْتاً وَلا نِتَاجَ بَقَرِكُمْ وَنِعَاجِكُمْ حَتَّى تُهْلِكَكُمْ. 52 وَتُحَاصِرُكُمْ فِي جَمِيعِ مُدُنِكُمْ حَتَّى تَتَهَدَّمَ أَسْوَارُكُمُ الشَّامِخَةُ الْحَصِينَةُ الَّتِي وَثِقْتُمْ بِمَنَاعَتِهَا فِي كُلِّ مُدُنِكُمْ. فَتُحَاصِرُكُمْ فِي جَمِيعِ مُدُنِكُمْ فِي كُلِّ أَرْضِكُمُ الَّتِي يَهَبُهَا الرَّبُّ إِلَهُكُمْ لَكُمْ. 53 فَتَأْكُلُونَ فِي أَثْنَاءِ الْحِصَارِ وَالضِّيقَةِ الَّتِي يُضَايِقُكُمْ بِها عَدُوُّكُمْ ثِمَارَ بُطُونِكُمْ، لَحْمَ أَبْنَائِكُمْ وَبَنَاتِكُمُ الَّذِينَ رَزَقَكُمْ بِهِمِ الرَّبُّ إِلَهُكُمْ. 54 فَيَقْسُو قَلْبُ أَكْثَرِكُمْ رِقَّةً وَرَأْفَةً عَلَى أَخِيهِ وَامْرَأَتِهِ الَّتِي فِي حِضْنِهِ وَسَائِرِ أَبْنَائِهِ الأَحْيَاءِ. 55 فَلا يُعْطِي أَحَدَهُمْ مِنْ لَحْمِ أَبْنَائِهِ، الَّذِي يَأْكُلُهُ، لأَنَّهُ لَمْ يَبْقَ لَدَيْهِ شَيْءٌ سِوَاهُ فِي الْحِصَارِ وَالضِّيقَةِ الَّتِي يُضَايِقُكُمْ بِها عَدُوُّكُمْ فِي جَمِيعِ مُدُنِكُمْ. 56 وَكَذَلِكَ فَإِنَّ أَكْثَرَ النِّسَاءِ رِقَّةً وَرَأْفَةً، وَالَّتِي لِنُعُومَتِهَا وَتَرَفُّهِهَا لَا تَجْرُؤُ عَلَى لَمْسِ الأَرْضِ بِبَاطِنِ قَدَمِهَا، تَبْخَلُ عَلَى زَوْجِهَا رَجُلِ حِضْنِهَا وَعَلَى ابْنِهَا وَابْنَتِهَا 57 بِمَشِيمَتِهَا السَّاقِطَةِ مِنْهَا، وَبِأَوْلادِهَا الَّذِينَ تَلِدُهُمْ، لأَنَّهَا تَنْوِي أَنْ تَأْكُلَهُمْ سِرّاً فِي أَثْنَاءِ الْحِصَارِ، فِي الضِّيقَةِ الَّتِي يُضَايِقُكُمْ بِها عَدُوُّكُمْ فِي كُلِّ مُدُنِكُمْ. 58 فَإِنْ لَمْ تَحْرِصُوا عَلَى الْعَمَلِ بِجَمِيعِ كَلِمَاتِ هَذِهِ الشَّرِيعَةِ الْمَكْتُوبَةِ فِي هَذَا الْكِتَابِ، لِتَهابُوا اسْمَ الرَّبِّ إِلَهِكُمُ الْجَلِيلَ الْمَرْهُوبَ، 59 فَإِنَّ الرَّبَّ يَجْعَلُ الضَّرَبَاتِ النَّازِلَةَ بِكُمْ وَبِذُرِّيَّتِكُمْ ضَرَبَاتٍ مُخِيفَةً وَكَوَارِثَ رَهِيبَةً دَائِمَةً وَأَمْرَاضاً خَبِيثَةً مُزْمِنَةً، 60 وَيُرْسِلُ عَلَيْكُمْ كُلَّ أَمْرَاضِ مِصْرَ الَّتِي فَزِعْتُمْ مِنْهَا فَتُلازِمُكُمْ، 61 وَيُسَلِّطُ الرَّبُّ عَلَيْكُمْ أَيْضاً كُلَّ دَاءٍ وَكُلَّ بَلِيَّةٍ لَمْ تَرِدْ فِي كِتَابِ الشَّرِيعَةِ هَذَا، حَتَّى تَهْلِكُوا. 62 فَتَصِيرُونَ قِلَّةً بَعْدَ أَنْ كُنْتُمْ فِي كَثْرَةِ نُجُومِ السَّمَاءِ، لأَنَّكُمْ لَمْ تَسْمَعُوا صَوْتَ الرَّبِّ إِلَهِكُمْ. 63 وَكَمَا سُرَّ الرَّبُّ بِكُمْ فَأَحْسَنَ إِلَيْكُمْ وَكَثَّرَكُمْ، فَإِنَّهُ سَيُسَرُّ بِأَنْ يَفْنِيَكُمْ وَيُهْلِكَكُمْ فَتَنْقَرِضُونَ مِنَ الأَرْضِ الَّتِي أَنْتُمْ مَاضُونَ إِلَيْهَا لاِمْتِلاكِهَا. 64 وَيُشَتِّتُكُمُ الرَّبُّ بَيْنَ جَمِيعِ الأُمَمِ مِنْ أَقْصَى الأَرْضِ إِلَى أَقْصَاهَا، فَتَعْبُدُونَ هُنَاكَ آلِهَةً أُخْرَى مِنْ خَشَبٍ أَوْ حَجَرٍ لَمْ تَعْرِفُوهَا أَنْتُمْ وَلا آبَاؤُكُمْ، 65 وَلا تَجِدُونَ بَيْنَ تِلْكَ الأُمَمِ اطْمِئْنَاناً وَلا مَقَرّاً لِقَدَمٍ، بَلْ يُعْطِيكُمُ الرَّبُّ قَلْباً هَلِعاً، وَعُيُوناً أَوْهَنَهَا التَّرَقُّبُ، وَنُفُوساً يَائِسَةً. 66 وَتَعِيشُونَ حَيَاةً مُفْعَمَةً دَائِماً بِالتَّوَتُّرِ، مَلِيئَةً بِالرُّعْبِ لَيْلاً وَنَهَاراً. 67 وَتَقُولُونَ فِي الصَّبَاحِ: يَا لَيْتَهُ الْمَسَاءُ، وَفِي الْمَسَاءِ: يَا لَيْتَهُ الصَّبَاحُ، مِنْ فَرْطِ ارْتِعَابِ قُلُوبِكُمْ وَمَا تَشْهَدُهُ عُيُونُكُمْ مِنْ هَوْلٍ. 68 وَيَرُدُّكُمُ الرَّبُّ إِلَى دِيَارِ مِصْرَ فِي سُفُنٍ فِي طَرِيقٍ وَعَدَكُمْ أَلّا تَعُودُوا تَرَوْنَهَا، فَتُبَاعُونَ هُنَاكَ لأَعْدَائِكُمْ عَبِيداً وَإِمَاءً، وَلَيْسَ مَنْ يَشْتَرِي».

Blessings for obedience

1 If you fully obey the Lord your God and carefully follow all his commands that I give you today, the Lord your God will set you high above all the nations on earth. 2 All these blessings will come on you and accompany you if you obey the Lord your God: 3 You will be blessed in the city and blessed in the country. 4 The fruit of your womb will be blessed, and the crops of your land and the young of your livestock – the calves of your herds and the lambs of your flocks. 5 Your basket and your kneading trough will be blessed. 6 You will be blessed when you come in and blessed when you go out. 7 The Lord will grant that the enemies who rise up against you will be defeated before you. They will come at you from one direction but flee from you in seven. 8 The Lord will send a blessing on your barns and on everything you put your hand to. The Lord your God will bless you in the land he is giving you. 9 The Lord will establish you as his holy people, as he promised you on oath, if you keep the commands of the Lord your God and walk in obedience to him. 10 Then all the peoples on earth will see that you are called by the name of the Lord, and they will fear you. 11 The Lord will grant you abundant prosperity – in the fruit of your womb, the young of your livestock and the crops of your ground – in the land he swore to your ancestors to give you. 12 The Lord will open the heavens, the storehouse of his bounty, to send rain on your land in season and to bless all the work of your hands. You will lend to many nations but will borrow from none. 13 The Lord will make you the head, not the tail. If you pay attention to the commands of the Lord your God that I give you this day and carefully follow them, you will always be at the top, never at the bottom. 14 Do not turn aside from any of the commands I give you today, to the right or to the left, following other gods and serving them.

Curses for disobedience

15 However, if you do not obey the Lord your God and do not carefully follow all his commands and decrees I am giving you today, all these curses will come on you and overtake you: 16 You will be cursed in the city and cursed in the country. 17 Your basket and your kneading trough will be cursed. 18 The fruit of your womb will be cursed, and the crops of your land, and the calves of your herds and the lambs of your flocks. 19 You will be cursed when you come in and cursed when you go out. 20 The Lord will send on you curses, confusion and rebuke in everything you put your hand to, until you are destroyed and come to sudden ruin because of the evil you have done in forsaking him.^[1] 21 The Lord will plague you with diseases until he has destroyed you from the land you are entering to possess. 22 The Lord will strike you with wasting disease, with fever and inflammation, with scorching heat and drought, with blight and mildew, which will plague you until you perish. 23 The sky over your head will be bronze, the ground beneath you iron. 24 The Lord will turn the rain of your country into dust and powder; it will come down from the skies until you are destroyed. 25 The Lord will cause you to be defeated before your enemies. You will come at them from one direction but flee from them in seven, and you will become a thing of horror to all the kingdoms on earth. 26 Your carcasses will be food for all the birds and the wild animals, and there will be no-one to frighten them away. 27 The Lord will afflict you with the boils of Egypt and with tumours, festering sores and the itch, from which you cannot be cured. 28 The Lord will afflict you with madness, blindness and confusion of mind. 29 At midday you will grope about like a blind person in the dark. You will be unsuccessful in everything you do; day after day you will be oppressed and robbed, with no-one to rescue you. 30 You will be pledged to be married to a woman, but another will take her and rape her. You will build a house, but you will not live in it. You will plant a vineyard, but you will not even begin to enjoy its fruit. 31 Your ox will be slaughtered before your eyes, but you will eat none of it. Your donkey will be forcibly taken from you and will not be returned. Your sheep will be given to your enemies, and no-one will rescue them. 32 Your sons and daughters will be given to another nation, and you will wear out your eyes watching for them day after day, powerless to lift a hand. 33 A people that you do not know will eat what your land and labour produce, and you will have nothing but cruel oppression all your days. 34 The sights you see will drive you mad. 35 The Lord will afflict your knees and legs with painful boils that cannot be cured, spreading from the soles of your feet to the top of your head. 36 The Lord will drive you and the king you set over you to a nation unknown to you or your ancestors. There you will worship other gods, gods of wood and stone. 37 You will become a thing of horror, a byword and an object of ridicule among all the peoples where the Lord will drive you. 38 You will sow much seed in the field but you will harvest little, because locusts will devour it. 39 You will plant vineyards and cultivate them but you will not drink the wine or gather the grapes, because worms will eat them. 40 You will have olive trees throughout your country but you will not use the oil, because the olives will drop off. 41 You will have sons and daughters but you will not keep them, because they will go into captivity. 42 Swarms of locusts will take over all your trees and the crops of your land. 43 The foreigners who reside among you will rise above you higher and higher, but you will sink lower and lower. 44 They will lend to you, but you will not lend to them. They will be the head, but you will be the tail. 45 All these curses will come on you. They will pursue you and overtake you until you are destroyed, because you did not obey the Lord your God and observe the commands and decrees he gave you. 46 They will be a sign and a wonder to you and your descendants for ever. 47 Because you did not serve the Lord your God joyfully and gladly in the time of prosperity, 48 therefore in hunger and thirst, in nakedness and dire poverty, you will serve the enemies the Lord sends against you. He will put an iron yoke on your neck until he has destroyed you. 49 The Lord will bring a nation against you from far away, from the ends of the earth, like an eagle swooping down, a nation whose language you will not understand, 50 a fierce-looking nation without respect for the old or pity for the young. 51 They will devour the young of your livestock and the crops of your land until you are destroyed. They will leave you no corn, new wine or olive oil, nor any calves of your herds or lambs of your flocks until you are ruined. 52 They will lay siege to all the cities throughout your land until the high fortified walls in which you trust fall down. They will besiege all the cities throughout the land the Lord your God is giving you. 53 Because of the suffering your enemy will inflict on you during the siege, you will eat the fruit of the womb, the flesh of the sons and daughters the Lord your God has given you. 54 Even the most gentle and sensitive man among you will have no compassion on his own brother or the wife he loves or his surviving children, 55 and he will not give to one of them any of the flesh of his children that he is eating. It will be all he has left because of the suffering that your enemy will inflict on you during the siege of all your cities. 56 The most gentle and sensitive woman among you – so sensitive and gentle that she would not venture to touch the ground with the sole of her foot – will begrudge the husband she loves and her own son or daughter 57 the afterbirth from her womb and the children she bears. For in her dire need she intends to eat them secretly because of the suffering your enemy will inflict on you during the siege of your cities. 58 If you do not carefully follow all the words of this law, which are written in this book, and do not revere this glorious and awesome name – the Lord your God – 59 the Lord will send fearful plagues on you and your descendants, harsh and prolonged disasters, and severe and lingering illnesses. 60 He will bring on you all the diseases of Egypt that you dreaded, and they will cling to you. 61 The Lord will also bring on you every kind of sickness and disaster not recorded in this Book of the Law, until you are destroyed. 62 You who were as numerous as the stars in the sky will be left but few in number, because you did not obey the Lord your God. 63 Just as it pleased the Lord to make you prosper and increase in number, so it will please him to ruin and destroy you. You will be uprooted from the land you are entering to possess. 64 Then the Lord will scatter you among all nations, from one end of the earth to the other. There you will worship other gods – gods of wood and stone, which neither you nor your ancestors have known. 65 Among those nations you will find no repose, no resting-place for the sole of your foot. There the Lord will give you an anxious mind, eyes weary with longing, and a despairing heart. 66 You will live in constant suspense, filled with dread both night and day, never sure of your life. 67 In the morning you will say, ‘If only it were evening!’ and in the evening, ‘If only it were morning!’ – because of the terror that will fill your hearts and the sights that your eyes will see. 68 The Lord will send you back in ships to Egypt on a journey I said you should never make again. There you will offer yourselves for sale to your enemies as male and female slaves, but no-one will buy you.
