Das Gericht über Babel

1 Herunter, setze dich in den Staub, Jungfrau, du Tochter Babel! Setze dich auf die Erde, du Tochter der Chaldäer, da ist kein Thron mehr. Man wird dich nicht mehr nennen »Zarte und Verwöhnte«. (Jes 52,2) 2 Nimm die Mühle und mahle Mehl, decke auf deinen Schleier! Hebe die Schleppe, entblöße den Schenkel, wate durch Ströme, 3 dass deine Blöße aufgedeckt und deine Schande gesehen werde! Ich will mich rächen, unerbittlich. (Nah 3,5) 4 Unser Erlöser ist der Heilige Israels – HERR Zebaoth ist sein Name. 5 Setze dich stumm hin, geh in die Finsternis, du Tochter der Chaldäer! Denn du sollst nicht mehr heißen »Herrin über Königreiche«. 6 Als ich über mein Volk zornig war und mein Erbe entheiligte, gab ich sie in deine Hand; aber du erwiesest ihnen keine Barmherzigkeit, auch über die Alten machtest du dein Joch allzu schwer. (Sach 1,15) 7 Du dachtest: Ich bin eine Herrin für immer. Du hattest noch nicht zu Herzen genommen noch daran gedacht, wie es hernach werden könnte. 8 So höre nun dies, die du in Wollust lebst und so sicher sitzt und sprichst in deinem Herzen: »Ich bin’s und sonst keine; ich werde keine Witwe werden noch ohne Kinder sein«: (Zef 2,15; Offb 18,7) 9 Dies beides wird plötzlich über dich kommen auf einen Tag, dass du Witwe und ohne Kinder bist. Ja, es wird in vollem Maße über dich kommen trotz der Menge deiner Zaubereien und trotz der großen Macht deiner Beschwörungen. 10 Denn du hast dich auf deine Bosheit verlassen, als du dachtest: Niemand sieht mich! Deine Weisheit und Kunst hat dich verleitet, dass du in deinem Herzen sprachst: Ich bin’s und sonst keine! (Ps 10,11) 11 Aber nun wird über dich Unglück kommen, das du nicht wegzuzaubern weißt, und Unheil wird auf dich fallen, das du nicht durch Sühne abwenden kannst. Und es wird plötzlich ein Verderben über dich kommen, dessen du dich nicht versiehst. 12 So tritt nun auf mit deinen Beschwörungen und der Menge deiner Zaubereien, um die du dich von deiner Jugend auf bemüht hast, ob du dir helfen und es abwenden kannst. (Dan 2,2) 13 Du hast dich müde gemacht mit der Menge deiner Pläne. Es sollen hertreten und dir helfen die Meister des Himmelslaufs und die Sterngucker, die an jedem Neumond kundtun, was über dich kommen werde! 14 Siehe, sie sind wie Stoppeln, die das Feuer verbrennt, sie können ihr Leben nicht erretten vor der Flamme Gewalt. Denn es wird nicht eine Glut sein, an der man sich wärmen, oder ein Feuer, um das man sitzen könnte. 15 So sind alle, um die du dich bemüht hast, die mit dir Handel trieben von deiner Jugend auf: Ein jeder wird hierhin und dorthin wanken, und du hast keinen Retter.

1 Come down, and sit in the dust, O virgin daughter of Babylon, sit on the ground: there is no throne, O daughter of the Chaldeans: for thou shalt no more be called tender and delicate. 2 Take the millstones, and grind meal: uncover thy locks, make bare the leg, uncover the thigh, pass over the rivers. 3 Thy nakedness shall be uncovered, yea, thy shame shall be seen: I will take vengeance, and I will not meet thee as a man. 4 As for our redeemer, the LORD of hosts is his name, the Holy One of Israel. 5 Sit thou silent, and get thee into darkness, O daughter of the Chaldeans: for thou shalt no more be called, The lady of kingdoms. 6 I was wroth with my people, I have polluted mine inheritance, and given them into thine hand: thou didst shew them no mercy; upon the ancient hast thou very heavily laid thy yoke. 7 And thou saidst, I shall be a lady for ever: so that thou didst not lay these things to thy heart, neither didst remember the latter end of it. 8 Therefore hear now this, thou that art given to pleasures, that dwellest carelessly, that sayest in thine heart, I am , and none else beside me; I shall not sit as a widow, neither shall I know the loss of children: 9 But these two things shall come to thee in a moment in one day, the loss of children, and widowhood: they shall come upon thee in their perfection for the multitude of thy sorceries, and for the great abundance of thine enchantments. 10 For thou hast trusted in thy wickedness: thou hast said, None seeth me. Thy wisdom and thy knowledge, it hath perverted thee; and thou hast said in thine heart, I am , and none else beside me. 11 Therefore shall evil come upon thee; thou shalt not know from whence it riseth: and mischief shall fall upon thee; thou shalt not be able to put it off: and desolation shall come upon thee suddenly, which thou shalt not know. 12 Stand now with thine enchantments, and with the multitude of thy sorceries, wherein thou hast laboured from thy youth; if so be thou shalt be able to profit, if so be thou mayest prevail. 13 Thou art wearied in the multitude of thy counsels. Let now the astrologers, the stargazers, the monthly prognosticators, stand up, and save thee from these things that shall come upon thee. 14 Behold, they shall be as stubble; the fire shall burn them; they shall not deliver themselves from the power of the flame: there shall not be a coal to warm at, nor fire to sit before it. 15 Thus shall they be unto thee with whom thou hast laboured, even thy merchants, from thy youth: they shall wander every one to his quarter; none shall save thee.
