1 Wehe denen, die unrechte Gesetze machen, und den Schreibern, die unrechtes Urteil schreiben, (Jes 1,17; Jes 1,23; Jes 5,8) 2 um die Sache der Armen zu beugen und Gewalt zu üben am Recht der Elenden in meinem Volk, dass die Witwen ihr Raub und die Waisen ihre Beute werden! 3 Was wollt ihr tun am Tage der Heimsuchung und des Unheils, das von ferne kommt? Zu wem wollt ihr fliehen um Hilfe? Und wo wollt ihr eure Herrlichkeit lassen? 4 Wer sich nicht unter die Gefangenen bückt, wird unter den Erschlagenen fallen. Bei all dem kehrte sich sein Zorn nicht ab, seine Hand ist noch ausgereckt. (Jes 5,25)

Gegen den Hochmut des Königs von Assyrien

5 Wehe Assur, der Rute meines Zorns und dem Stecken meines Grimms! (Jes 15,1) 6 Ich sende ihn wider ein gottloses Volk und gebe ihm Befehl wider das Volk, dem ich zürne, dass er’s beraube und ausplündere und es zertrete wie Dreck auf der Gasse. 7 Aber er meint’s nicht so, und sein Herz denkt nicht so, sondern sein Sinn steht danach, zu vertilgen und auszurotten nicht wenige Völker. 8 Denn er spricht: »Sind meine Fürsten nicht allesamt Könige? 9 Ist Kalne nicht wie Karkemisch? Ist Hamat nicht wie Arpad? Ist nicht Samaria wie Damaskus? 10 Wie meine Hand gefunden hat die Königreiche der Götzen, obwohl ihre Götterbilder mehr waren als die zu Jerusalem und Samaria: (2Kön 18,33; Jes 36,19) 11 Sollte ich nicht Jerusalem tun und seinen Götzen, wie ich Samaria und seinen Götzenbildern getan habe?« 12 Wenn aber der Herr all sein Werk ausgerichtet hat auf dem Berge Zion und zu Jerusalem, wird er sprechen: Ich will heimsuchen die Frucht des Hochmuts des Königs von Assyrien und den Stolz seiner hoffärtigen Augen, (Jes 37,36) 13 weil er spricht: »Ich hab’s durch meiner Hände Kraft ausgerichtet und durch meine Weisheit, denn ich bin klug. Ich habe die Grenzen der Länder aufgehoben und ihre Schätze geraubt und wie ein Mächtiger die Bewohner zu Boden gestoßen. 14 Meine Hand hat gefunden den Reichtum der Völker wie ein Vogelnest, und ich habe alle Länder zusammengerafft, wie man Eier sammelt, die verlassen sind; kein Flügel regte sich, und kein Schnabel sperrte sich auf und zirpte.« 15 Vermag sich auch eine Axt zu rühmen wider den, der damit haut, oder eine Säge großzutun wider den, der sie zieht? Als ob die Rute den schwänge, der sie hebt; als ob der Stock den höbe, der kein Holz ist! (Jes 5,1) 16 Darum wird der Herr, der HERR Zebaoth, unter die Fetten in Assur die Auszehrung senden, und unter Assurs Herrlichkeit wird er einen Brand entfachen, ein loderndes Feuer. 17 Und das Licht Israels wird ein Feuer sein, und sein Heiliger wird eine Flamme sein, und sie wird Assurs Dornen und Disteln anzünden und verzehren an einem einzigen Tag. (5Mo 4,24) 18 Und die Herrlichkeit seiner Wälder und Gärten soll zunichtewerden mit Stumpf und Stiel und wird vergehen und wie ein Verschmachtender dahinschwinden, 19 dass die Bäume seiner Wälder, die übrig bleiben, gezählt werden können und ein Knabe sie aufschreiben kann.

Errettung eines Restes von Israel

20 Zu der Zeit werden die Übriggebliebenen von Israel und was entkommen ist vom Hause Jakob sich nicht mehr verlassen auf den, der sie schlägt, sondern sie werden sich verlassen auf den HERRN, den Heiligen Israels, in Treue. (Jes 4,3) 21 Ein Rest wird umkehren, ja, der Rest Jakobs, zu Gott, dem Helden. (Jes 7,3; Jes 9,5) 22 Denn wäre auch dein Volk, o Israel, wie Sand am Meer, so soll doch nur ein Rest von ihm umkehren. Verderben ist beschlossen und bringt Fluten von Gerechtigkeit. (1Mo 22,17; Röm 9,27) 23 Denn Gott der HERR Zebaoth wird Verderben ergehen lassen, wie beschlossen ist, auf der ganzen Erde. (Jes 28,22) 24 Darum spricht Gott der HERR Zebaoth: Fürchte dich nicht, mein Volk, das in Zion wohnt, vor Assur, der dich mit dem Stecken schlägt und seinen Stab gegen dich aufhebt, wie es in Ägypten geschah. 25 Denn es ist nur noch eine kleine Weile, so wird mein Grimm ein Ende haben, und mein Zorn wird sich richten auf sein Verderben. 26 Alsdann wird der HERR Zebaoth eine Geißel über ihn schwingen wie beim Schlag gegen Midian am Rabenfelsen und wird seinen Stab, den er am Meer brauchte, aufheben wie in Ägypten. 27 Zu der Zeit wird seine Last von deiner Schulter weichen und sein Joch von deinem Halse, ja, das Joch wird von deinem Nacken genommen. (Jes 9,3; Jes 14,5; Jes 14,25)

Der Ansturm Assurs

28 Assur kommt nach Aja, er zieht durch Migron, nach Michmas befiehlt er seinen Tross. 29 Sie ziehen durch den engen Weg: »Geba sei unser Nachtlager!« Rama erschrickt, das Gibea Sauls flieht. 30 Du Tochter Gallim, schreie laut! Merke auf, Lajescha! Elend ist Anatot! (1Sam 25,44) 31 Madmena weicht, die Bewohner von Gebim laufen davon. 32 Noch heute macht er halt in Nob; er streckt seine Hand aus gegen den Berg der Tochter Zion, gegen den Hügel Jerusalems. (1Sam 21,2) 33 Siehe, der Herr, der HERR Zebaoth, wird die Äste mit Macht abhauen und was hoch aufgerichtet steht niederschlagen, dass die Hohen erniedrigt werden. (Jes 2,12) 34 Und der dichte Wald wird mit dem Eisen umgehauen werden, und der Libanon wird fallen durch einen Mächtigen.

1 Woe unto them that decree unrighteous decrees, and that write grievousness which they have prescribed; 2 To turn aside the needy from judgment, and to take away the right from the poor of my people, that widows may be their prey, and that they may rob the fatherless! 3 And what will ye do in the day of visitation, and in the desolation which shall come from far? to whom will ye flee for help? and where will ye leave your glory? 4 Without me they shall bow down under the prisoners, and they shall fall under the slain. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still. 5 O Assyrian, the rod of mine anger, and the staff in their hand is mine indignation. 6 I will send him against an hypocritical nation, and against the people of my wrath will I give him a charge, to take the spoil, and to take the prey, and to tread them down like the mire of the streets. 7 Howbeit he meaneth not so, neither doth his heart think so; but it is in his heart to destroy and cut off nations not a few. 8 For he saith, Are not my princes altogether kings? 9 Is not Calno as Carchemish? is not Hamath as Arpad? is not Samaria as Damascus? 10 As my hand hath found the kingdoms of the idols, and whose graven images did excel them of Jerusalem and of Samaria; 11 Shall I not, as I have done unto Samaria and her idols, so do to Jerusalem and her idols? 12 Wherefore it shall come to pass, that when the Lord hath performed his whole work upon mount Zion and on Jerusalem, I will punish the fruit of the stout heart of the king of Assyria, and the glory of his high looks. 13 For he saith, By the strength of my hand I have done it , and by my wisdom; for I am prudent: and I have removed the bounds of the people, and have robbed their treasures, and I have put down the inhabitants like a valiant man : 14 And my hand hath found as a nest the riches of the people: and as one gathereth eggs that are left, have I gathered all the earth; and there was none that moved the wing, or opened the mouth, or peeped. 15 Shall the axe boast itself against him that heweth therewith? or shall the saw magnify itself against him that shaketh it? as if the rod should shake itself against them that lift it up, or as if the staff should lift up itself, as if it were no wood. 16 Therefore shall the Lord, the Lord of hosts, send among his fat ones leanness; and under his glory he shall kindle a burning like the burning of a fire. 17 And the light of Israel shall be for a fire, and his Holy One for a flame: and it shall burn and devour his thorns and his briers in one day; 18 And shall consume the glory of his forest, and of his fruitful field, both soul and body: and they shall be as when a standardbearer fainteth. 19 And the rest of the trees of his forest shall be few, that a child may write them. 20 And it shall come to pass in that day, that the remnant of Israel, and such as are escaped of the house of Jacob, shall no more again stay upon him that smote them; but shall stay upon the LORD, the Holy One of Israel, in truth. 21 The remnant shall return, even the remnant of Jacob, unto the mighty God. 22 For though thy people Israel be as the sand of the sea, yet a remnant of them shall return: the consumption decreed shall overflow with righteousness. 23 For the Lord GOD of hosts shall make a consumption, even determined, in the midst of all the land. 24 Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD of hosts, O my people that dwellest in Zion, be not afraid of the Assyrian: he shall smite thee with a rod, and shall lift up his staff against thee, after the manner of Egypt. 25 For yet a very little while, and the indignation shall cease, and mine anger in their destruction. 26 And the LORD of hosts shall stir up a scourge for him according to the slaughter of Midian at the rock of Oreb: and as his rod was upon the sea, so shall he lift it up after the manner of Egypt. 27 And it shall come to pass in that day, that his burden shall be taken away from off thy shoulder, and his yoke from off thy neck, and the yoke shall be destroyed because of the anointing. 28 He is come to Aiath, he is passed to Migron; at Michmash he hath laid up his carriages: 29 They are gone over the passage: they have taken up their lodging at Geba; Ramah is afraid; Gibeah of Saul is fled. 30 Lift up thy voice, O daughter of Gallim: cause it to be heard unto Laish, O poor Anathoth. 31 Madmenah is removed; the inhabitants of Gebim gather themselves to flee. 32 As yet shall he remain at Nob that day: he shall shake his hand against the mount of the daughter of Zion, the hill of Jerusalem. 33 Behold, the Lord, the LORD of hosts, shall lop the bough with terror: and the high ones of stature shall be hewn down, and the haughty shall be humbled. 34 And he shall cut down the thickets of the forest with iron, and Lebanon shall fall by a mighty one.
