Paulus in Griechenland und Troas

1 Als sich die Empörung gelegt hatte, rief Paulus die Jünger zu sich und tröstete sie, nahm Abschied und brach auf, um nach Makedonien zu reisen. (2Kor 2,13) 2 Und als er diese Gegenden durchzogen und die Gemeinden mit vielen Worten ermahnt hatte, kam er nach Griechenland 3 und blieb dort drei Monate. Da ihm aber die Juden nachstellten, als er zu Schiff nach Syrien fahren wollte, beschloss er, durch Makedonien zurückzukehren. 4 Es zogen aber mit ihm Sopater aus Beröa, der Sohn des Pyrrhus, aus Thessalonich aber Aristarch und Sekundus und Gaius aus Derbe und Timotheus, aus der Provinz Asia aber Tychikus und Trophimus. 5 Diese reisten voraus und warteten auf uns in Troas. 6 Wir aber fuhren nach den Tagen der Ungesäuerten Brote mit dem Schiff von Philippi ab und kamen am fünften Tag zu ihnen nach Troas und blieben dort sieben Tage. 7 Am ersten Tag der Woche aber, als wir versammelt waren, das Brot zu brechen, predigte ihnen Paulus, und da er am nächsten Tag weiterreisen wollte, zog er die Rede hin bis Mitternacht. 8 Und es waren viele Lampen in dem Obergemach, wo wir versammelt waren. 9 Es saß aber ein junger Mann mit Namen Eutychus in einem Fenster und sank in einen tiefen Schlaf, weil Paulus so lange redete; und vom Schlaf überwältigt fiel er hinunter vom dritten Stock und wurde tot aufgehoben. 10 Paulus aber ging hinab und warf sich über ihn, umfing ihn und sprach: Macht kein Geschrei; denn seine Seele ist in ihm. (1Kön 17,21) 11 Dann ging er hinauf und brach das Brot und aß und redete viel mit ihnen, bis der Tag anbrach; und so zog er hinweg. 12 Sie brachten aber den jungen Mann lebend herein und wurden nicht wenig getröstet.

Die Reise nach Milet

13 Wir aber zogen voraus zum Schiff und fuhren nach Assos und wollten dort Paulus zu uns nehmen; denn er hatte es so befohlen, weil er selbst zu Fuß gehen wollte. 14 Als er nun in Assos zu uns stieß, nahmen wir ihn mit uns und kamen nach Mitylene. 15 Und von dort fuhren wir weiter und kamen am nächsten Tag auf die Höhe von Chios; am folgenden Tag gelangten wir nach Samos und am nächsten Tag kamen wir nach Milet. 16 Denn Paulus hatte beschlossen, an Ephesus vorüberzufahren, um in der Provinz Asia keine Zeit zu verlieren; denn er eilte, am Pfingsttag in Jerusalem zu sein, wenn es ihm möglich wäre. (Apg 18,21)

Die Abschiedsrede des Paulus an die Ältesten von Ephesus

17 Aber von Milet sandte er nach Ephesus und ließ die Ältesten der Gemeinde rufen. 18 Als sie aber zu ihm kamen, sprach er zu ihnen: Ihr wisst, wie ich mich vom ersten Tag an, als ich in die Provinz Asia gekommen bin, die ganze Zeit bei euch verhalten habe, (Apg 18,19; Apg 19,10) 19 wie ich dem Herrn gedient habe in aller Demut und mit Tränen und unter Anfechtungen, die mir durch die Nachstellungen der Juden widerfahren sind. 20 Ich habe euch nichts vorenthalten, was nützlich ist, dass ich’s euch nicht verkündigt und gelehrt hätte, öffentlich und in den Häusern, 21 und habe Juden und Griechen bezeugt die Umkehr zu Gott und den Glauben an unsern Herrn Jesus. 22 Und nun siehe, durch den Geist gebunden, fahre ich nach Jerusalem und weiß nicht, was mir dort begegnen wird, (Apg 19,21) 23 nur dass der Heilige Geist mir in allen Städten bezeugt, dass Fesseln und Bedrängnisse auf mich warten. 24 Aber ich achte mein Leben nicht der Rede wert, wenn ich nur meinen Lauf vollende und das Amt ausrichte, das ich von dem Herrn Jesus empfangen habe, zu bezeugen das Evangelium von der Gnade Gottes. (Apg 21,13; 2Tim 4,7) 25 Und nun siehe, ich weiß, dass ihr mein Angesicht nicht mehr sehen werdet, ihr alle, zu denen ich hingekommen bin und das Reich gepredigt habe. 26 Darum bezeuge ich euch am heutigen Tage, dass ich rein bin vom Blut aller; (Hes 3,17; Apg 18,6) 27 denn ich habe nicht unterlassen, euch den ganzen Ratschluss Gottes zu verkündigen. 28 So habt nun acht auf euch selbst und auf die ganze Herde, in der euch der Heilige Geist eingesetzt hat zu Bischöfen^[1], zu weiden die Gemeinde Gottes, die er durch sein eigenes Blut erworben hat. (1Tim 4,16; 1Petr 5,2) 29 Denn das weiß ich, dass nach meinem Abschied reißende Wölfe zu euch kommen, die die Herde nicht verschonen werden. (Mt 7,15; Lk 10,3) 30 Auch aus eurer Mitte werden Männer aufstehen, die Verkehrtes reden, um die Jünger an sich zu ziehen. (1Joh 2,18) 31 Darum seid wachsam und denkt daran, dass ich drei Jahre lang Tag und Nacht nicht abgelassen habe, einen jeden unter Tränen zu ermahnen. 32 Und nun befehle ich euch Gott und dem Wort seiner Gnade, der da mächtig ist, euch zu erbauen und das Erbe zu geben mit allen, die geheiligt sind. (Apg 26,18) 33 Ich habe von niemandem Silber oder Gold oder Kleidung begehrt. (1Kor 9,18) 34 Denn ihr wisst selber, dass mir diese Hände zum Unterhalt gedient haben, mir und denen, die mit mir gewesen sind. (Apg 18,3; 1Kor 4,12; 1Thess 2,9; 2Thess 3,7)

35 Ich habe euch in allem gezeigt, dass man so arbeiten und sich der Schwachen annehmen muss im Gedenken an das Wort des Herrn Jesus, der selbst gesagt hat: Geben ist seliger als nehmen. 36 Und als er das gesagt hatte, kniete er nieder und betete mit ihnen allen. (Apg 21,5) 37 Da begannen alle laut zu weinen, und sie fielen Paulus um den Hals und küssten ihn, 38 am allermeisten betrübt über das Wort, das er gesagt hatte, sie würden sein Angesicht nicht mehr sehen. Und sie geleiteten ihn auf das Schiff. (Apg 25,1)

1 And after the uproar was ceased, Paul called unto him the disciples, and embraced them, and departed for to go into Macedonia. 2 And when he had gone over those parts, and had given them much exhortation, he came into Greece, 3 And there abode three months. And when the Jews laid wait for him, as he was about to sail into Syria, he purposed to return through Macedonia. 4 And there accompanied him into Asia Sopater of Berea; and of the Thessalonians, Aristarchus and Secundus; and Gaius of Derbe, and Timotheus; and of Asia, Tychicus and Trophimus. 5 These going before tarried for us at Troas. 6 And we sailed away from Philippi after the days of unleavened bread, and came unto them to Troas in five days; where we abode seven days. 7 And upon the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul preached unto them, ready to depart on the morrow; and continued his speech until midnight. 8 And there were many lights in the upper chamber, where they were gathered together. 9 And there sat in a window a certain young man named Eutychus, being fallen into a deep sleep: and as Paul was long preaching, he sunk down with sleep, and fell down from the third loft, and was taken up dead. 10 And Paul went down, and fell on him, and embracing him said, Trouble not yourselves; for his life is in him. 11 When he therefore was come up again, and had broken bread, and eaten, and talked a long while, even till break of day, so he departed. 12 And they brought the young man alive, and were not a little comforted. 13 And we went before to ship, and sailed unto Assos, there intending to take in Paul: for so had he appointed, minding himself to go afoot. 14 And when he met with us at Assos, we took him in, and came to Mitylene. 15 And we sailed thence, and came the next day over against Chios; and the next day we arrived at Samos, and tarried at Trogyllium; and the next day we came to Miletus. 16 For Paul had determined to sail by Ephesus, because he would not spend the time in Asia: for he hasted, if it were possible for him, to be at Jerusalem the day of Pentecost. 17 And from Miletus he sent to Ephesus, and called the elders of the church. 18 And when they were come to him, he said unto them, Ye know, from the first day that I came into Asia, after what manner I have been with you at all seasons, 19 Serving the Lord with all humility of mind, and with many tears, and temptations, which befell me by the lying in wait of the Jews: 20 And how I kept back nothing that was profitable unto you, but have shewed you, and have taught you publickly, and from house to house, 21 Testifying both to the Jews, and also to the Greeks, repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ. 22 And now, behold, I go bound in the spirit unto Jerusalem, not knowing the things that shall befall me there: 23 Save that the Holy Ghost witnesseth in every city, saying that bonds and afflictions abide me. 24 But none of these things move me, neither count I my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God. 25 And now, behold, I know that ye all, among whom I have gone preaching the kingdom of God, shall see my face no more. 26 Wherefore I take you to record this day, that I am pure from the blood of all men. 27 For I have not shunned to declare unto you all the counsel of God. 28 Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood. 29 For I know this, that after my departing shall grievous wolves enter in among you, not sparing the flock. 30 Also of your own selves shall men arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away disciples after them. 31 Therefore watch, and remember, that by the space of three years I ceased not to warn every one night and day with tears. 32 And now, brethren, I commend you to God, and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up, and to give you an inheritance among all them which are sanctified. 33 I have coveted no man's silver, or gold, or apparel. 34 Yea, ye yourselves know, that these hands have ministered unto my necessities, and to them that were with me. 35 I have shewed you all things, how that so labouring ye ought to support the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, It is more blessed to give than to receive. 36 And when he had thus spoken, he kneeled down, and prayed with them all. 37 And they all wept sore, and fell on Paul's neck, and kissed him, 38 Sorrowing most of all for the words which he spake, that they should see his face no more. And they accompanied him unto the ship.
