Über Ägypten: Die Niederlage bei Karkemisch

2 Über Ägypten. Wider das Heer des Pharao Necho, des Königs von Ägypten, welches lagerte am Euphratstrom bei Karkemisch und das Nebukadnezar, der König von Babel, schlug im vierten Jahr Jojakims, des Sohnes Josias, des Königs von Juda: (2Kön 23,29; Jes 19,1; Hes 29,1) 3 Rüstet Rundschild und Langschild und zieht in den Streit! 4 Spannt Rosse an und lasst Reiter aufsitzen, setzt die Helme auf und schärft die Spieße und zieht Panzer an! 5 Wie kommt’s aber, dass ich sehe, dass sie verzagt sind und die Flucht ergreifen und ihre Helden erschlagen sind? Sie fliehen und wenden sich nicht mehr zurück. Schrecken um und um!, spricht der HERR. (Jer 6,25; Jer 20,3) 6 Der Schnelle kann nicht entfliehen noch der Starke entrinnen. Im Norden am Euphratstrom sind sie gefallen und niedergestreckt. (Am 2,14) 7 Wer ist’s, der emporsteigt wie der Nil und dessen Wasser wogen wie Ströme? 8 Ägypten steigt empor wie der Nil, und seine Wasser wogen wie Ströme. Es sprach: »Ich will emporsteigen, das Land bedecken und die Städte verderben samt denen, die darin wohnen.« 9 Bäumt euch, ihr Rosse, rast dahin, ihr Wagen, zieht aus, ihr Helden, Kusch und Put, die den Schild führen, und die Schützen aus Lud! (Hes 27,10; Nah 3,9) 10 Denn dies ist der Tag Gottes, des HERRN Zebaoth, ein Tag der Vergeltung, dass er sich an seinen Feinden räche, wenn das Schwert fressen und von ihrem Blut voll und trunken werden wird. Denn sie müssen Gott, dem HERRN Zebaoth, ein Schlachtopfer werden im Lande des Nordens am Euphratstrom. (Jes 34,8; Jer 51,6) 11 Geh hinauf nach Gilead und hole Balsam, Jungfrau, Tochter Ägypten! Aber es ist umsonst, dass du viel Heilmittel gebrauchst; du wirst doch nicht heil. (Jer 8,22; Jer 30,13) 12 Deine Schande ist unter den Völkern erschollen, dein Heulen erfüllt die Erde; denn ein Held ist über den andern gefallen und liegen beide miteinander darnieder.

Die Babylonier fallen ein

13 Dies ist das Wort des HERRN, das er zu dem Propheten Jeremia redete, als Nebukadnezar, der König von Babel, heranzog, um Ägyptenland zu schlagen: 14 Verkündigt’s in Ägypten und sagt’s an in Migdol, sagt’s an in Memphis und Tachpanhes und sprecht: Stell dich auf und rüste dich! Denn schon hat das Schwert gefressen, was um dich her ist. 15 Wie geht’s zu, dass dein Gewaltiger zu Boden fiel? Er hielt nicht stand, weil der HERR ihn stieß. 16 Er macht, dass ihrer viele fallen, dass einer mit dem andern darniederliegt. Da sprachen sie: Wohlauf, lasst uns wieder zu unserm Volk ziehen, in unser Vaterland vor dem mörderischen Schwert! (Jer 50,16) 17 Nennt den Namen des Pharao, des Königs von Ägypten: »Lärm, der seine Zeit versäumt hat«. (Jes 30,7) 18 So wahr ich lebe, spricht der König, der HERR Zebaoth heißt: Er wird daherziehen so hoch, wie der Berg Tabor unter den Bergen ist und wie der Karmel am Meer ist. 19 Pack dir Sachen für die Verbannung, du thronende Tochter Ägypten; denn Memphis wird wüst und verbrannt werden, dass niemand darin wohnen wird. (Jes 20,4; Jer 48,18; Sach 2,11) 20 Ägypten ist wie eine schöne junge Kuh; die Hornisse von Norden stürzt sich auf sie. 21 Auch die Söldner in seiner Mitte sind wie gemästete Kälber; auch sie müssen sich wenden, sie fliehen miteinander und halten nicht stand; denn der Tag ihres Unheils kommt über sie, die Zeit ihrer Heimsuchung. 22 Ägyptens Stimme zischt wie eine fliehende Schlange, wenn jene anrücken mit Heeresmacht. Mit Äxten kommen sie über Ägypten wie die Holzhauer. 23 Sie hauen seinen Wald um, der unermesslich ist, spricht der HERR; ihrer sind mehr als Heuschrecken, die niemand zählen kann. 24 Die Tochter Ägypten wird zuschanden; sie ist dem Volk aus dem Norden in die Hände gegeben. 25 Der HERR Zebaoth, der Gott Israels, spricht: Siehe, ich will heimsuchen den Amon zu No und den Pharao und Ägypten samt seinen Göttern und Königen, ja, den Pharao mit allen, die sich auf ihn verlassen, (Jer 43,12) 26 dass ich sie gebe in die Hände derer, die ihnen nach dem Leben trachten, und in die Hände Nebukadnezars, des Königs von Babel, und seiner Großen. Aber danach soll das Land bewohnt werden wie vor alters, spricht der HERR. (Hes 29,14)

27 Aber du, mein Knecht Jakob, fürchte dich nicht, und du, Israel, verzage nicht! Denn siehe, ich will dich erretten aus fernen Landen und deine Nachkommen aus dem Lande ihrer Gefangenschaft, dass Jakob zurückkehren soll und in Frieden und Sicherheit leben, und niemand soll ihn schrecken. (Jer 30,10) 28 Fürchte dich nicht, du mein Knecht Jakob, spricht der HERR, denn ich bin bei dir! Ich will mit allen Völkern ein Ende machen, unter die ich dich verstoßen habe; aber mit dir will ich nicht ein Ende machen. Ich will dich mit Maßen züchtigen, doch ungestraft kann ich dich nicht lassen. (Jer 10,24)
