1Darum haben wir’s nicht länger ertragen und beschlossen, in Athen allein zurückzubleiben, (Apg 17,14)2und sandten Timotheus, unsern Bruder und Gottes Mitarbeiter am Evangelium Christi, euch zu stärken und zu ermahnen in eurem Glauben, (Apg 16,1; 1Kor 4,17)3damit nicht jemand wankend würde in diesen Bedrängnissen. Denn ihr wisst selbst, dass wir dazu bestimmt sind. (Apg 14,22; Eph 3,13; 2Tim 3,12)4Denn schon als wir bei euch waren, sagten wir’s euch voraus, dass wir in Bedrängnis geraten würden, wie es denn auch geschehen ist und wie ihr wisst.5Darum habe ich’s auch nicht länger ertragen und habe ihn gesandt, um zu erfahren, wie es mit eurem Glauben steht, ob der Versucher euch etwa versucht hätte und unsre Arbeit vergeblich würde.
