1Abraham took another wife, whose name was Keturah.2She bore him Zimran, Jokshan, Medan, Midian, Ishbak, and Shuah. (1Chr 1,32)3Jokshan fathered Sheba and Dedan. The sons of Dedan were Asshurim, Letushim, and Leummim.4The sons of Midian were Ephah, Epher, Hanoch, Abida, and Eldaah. All these were the children of Keturah.5Abraham gave all he had to Isaac. (1Mo 24,36)6But to the sons of his concubines Abraham gave gifts, and while he was still living he sent them away from his son Isaac, eastward to the east country. (1Mo 21,14; Ri 6,3)7These are the days of the years of Abraham’s life, 175 years.8Abraham breathed his last and died in a good old age, an old man and full of years, and was gathered to his people. (1Mo 15,15; 1Mo 25,17; 1Mo 35,29; 1Mo 49,33)9Isaac and Ishmael his sons buried him in the cave of Machpelah, in the field of Ephron the son of Zohar the Hittite, east of Mamre, (1Mo 35,29)10the field that Abraham purchased from the Hittites. There Abraham was buried, with Sarah his wife. (1Mo 23,16; 1Mo 49,30; 1Mo 50,13)11After the death of Abraham, God blessed Isaac his son. And Isaac settled at Beer-lahai-roi. (1Mo 16,14; 1Mo 24,62)12These are the generations of Ishmael, Abraham’s son, whom Hagar the Egyptian, Sarah’s servant, bore to Abraham. (1Mo 16,15)13These are the names of the sons of Ishmael, named in the order of their birth: Nebaioth, the firstborn of Ishmael; and Kedar, Adbeel, Mibsam, (1Chr 1,29; Jes 60,7)14Mishma, Dumah, Massa,15Hadad, Tema, Jetur, Naphish, and Kedemah. (1Chr 5,19; Hi 6,19; Jes 21,14)16These are the sons of Ishmael and these are their names, by their villages and by their encampments, twelve princes according to their tribes. (1Mo 17,20)17(These are the years of the life of Ishmael: 137 years. He breathed his last and died, and was gathered to his people.) (1Mo 25,8)18They settled from Havilah to Shur, which is opposite Egypt in the direction of Assyria. He settled[1] over against all his kinsmen. (1Mo 16,7; 1Mo 20,1; 2Mo 15,22; 1Sam 15,7)
The Birth of Esau and Jacob
19These are the generations of Isaac, Abraham’s son: Abraham fathered Isaac, (Mt 1,2)20and Isaac was forty years old when he took Rebekah, the daughter of Bethuel the Aramean of Paddan-aram, the sister of Laban the Aramean, to be his wife. (1Mo 22,23; 1Mo 24,29; 1Mo 28,2)21And Isaac prayed to the Lord for his wife, because she was barren. And the Lord granted his prayer, and Rebekah his wife conceived. (2Sam 21,14; 2Sam 24,25; 1Chr 5,20; 2Chr 33,13; Esr 8,23)22The children struggled together within her, and she said, “If it is thus, why is this happening to me?”[2] So she went to inquire of the Lord. (1Sam 9,9)23And the Lord said to her, “Two nations are in your womb, and two peoples from within you[3] shall be divided; the one shall be stronger than the other, the older shall serve the younger.” (1Mo 17,16; 1Mo 24,60; 1Mo 27,29; 1Mo 27,40; 2Sam 8,14; Ob 1,18; Röm 9,12)24When her days to give birth were completed, behold, there were twins in her womb.25The first came out red, all his body like a hairy cloak, so they called his name Esau. (1Mo 27,11; 1Mo 27,16; 1Mo 27,23)26Afterward his brother came out with his hand holding Esau’s heel, so his name was called Jacob.[4] Isaac was sixty years old when she bore them. (1Mo 27,36; Hos 12,3)27When the boys grew up, Esau was a skillful hunter, a man of the field, while Jacob was a quiet man, dwelling in tents. (1Mo 27,3; 1Mo 27,5; Hebr 11,9)28Isaac loved Esau because he ate of his game, but Rebekah loved Jacob. (1Mo 27,4; 1Mo 27,7; 1Mo 27,9)
Esau Sells His Birthright
29Once when Jacob was cooking stew, Esau came in from the field, and he was exhausted.30And Esau said to Jacob, “Let me eat some of that red stew, for I am exhausted!” (Therefore his name was called Edom.[5])31Jacob said, “Sell me your birthright now.”32Esau said, “I am about to die; of what use is a birthright to me?”33Jacob said, “Swear to me now.” So he swore to him and sold his birthright to Jacob. (Hebr 12,16)34Then Jacob gave Esau bread and lentil stew, and he ate and drank and rose and went his way. Thus Esau despised his birthright.

King James Version
1Then again Abraham took a wife, and her name was Keturah.2And she bare him Zimran, and Jokshan, and Medan, and Midian, and Ishbak, and Shuah.3And Jokshan begat Sheba, and Dedan. And the sons of Dedan were Asshurim, and Letushim, and Leummim.4And the sons of Midian; Ephah, and Epher, and Hanoch, and Abida, and Eldaah. All these were the children of Keturah.5And Abraham gave all that he had unto Isaac.6But unto the sons of the concubines, which Abraham had, Abraham gave gifts, and sent them away from Isaac his son, while he yet lived, eastward, unto the east country.7And these are the days of the years of Abraham' life which he lived, an hundred threescore and fifteen years.8Then Abraham gave up the ghost, and died in a good old age, an old man, and full of years ; and was gathered to his people.9And his sons Isaac and Ishmael buried him in the cave of Machpelah, in the field of Ephron the son of Zohar the Hittite, which is before Mamre;10The field which Abraham purchased of the sons of Heth: there was Abraham buried, and Sarah his wife.11And it came to pass after the death of Abraham, that God blessed his son Isaac; and Isaac dwelt by the well Lahairoi.12Now these are the generations of Ishmael, Abraham' son, whom Hagar the Egyptian, Sarah' handmaid, bare unto Abraham:13And these are the names of the sons of Ishmael, by their names, according to their generations: the firstborn of Ishmael, Nebajoth; and Kedar, and Adbeel, and Mibsam,14And Mishma, and Dumah, and Massa,15Hadar, and Tema, Jetur, Naphish, and Kedemah:16These are the sons of Ishmael, and these are their names, by their towns, and by their castles; twelve princes according to their nations.17And these are the years of the life of Ishmael, an hundred and thirty and seven years: and he gave up the ghost and died; and was gathered unto his people.18And they dwelt from Havilah unto Shur, that is before Egypt, as thou goest toward Assyria: and he died in the presence of all his brethren.19And these are the generations of Isaac, Abraham' son: Abraham begat Isaac:20And Isaac was forty years old when he took Rebekah to wife, the daughter of Bethuel the Syrian of Padanaram, the sister to Laban the Syrian.21And Isaac intreated the LORD for his wife, because she was barren: and the LORD was intreated of him, and Rebekah his wife conceived.22And the children struggled together within her; and she said, If it be so, why am I thus? And she went to enquire of the LORD.23And the LORD said unto her, Two nations are in thy womb, and two manner of people shall be separated from thy bowels; and the one people shall be stronger than the other people; and the elder shall serve the younger.24And when her days to be delivered were fulfilled, behold, there were twins in her womb.25And the first came out red, all over like an hairy garment; and they called his name Esau.26And after that came his brother out, and his hand took hold on Esau' heel; and his name was called Jacob: and Isaac was threescore years old when she bare them.27And the boys grew: and Esau was a cunning hunter, a man of the field; and Jacob was a plain man, dwelling in tents.28And Isaac loved Esau, because he did eat of his venison: but Rebekah loved Jacob.29And Jacob sod pottage: and Esau came from the field, and he was faint:30And Esau said to Jacob, Feed me, I pray thee, with that same red pottage ; for I am faint: therefore was his name called Edom.31And Jacob said, Sell me this day thy birthright.32And Esau said, Behold, I am at the point to die: and what profit shall this birthright do to me?33And Jacob said, Swear to me this day; and he sware unto him: and he sold his birthright unto Jacob.34Then Jacob gave Esau bread and pottage of lentiles; and he did eat and drink, and rose up, and went his way: thus Esau despised his birthright.
1Abraham had married another woman. Her name was Keturah.2She had Zimran, Jokshan, Medan, Midian, Ishbak and Shuah by Abraham.3Jokshan was the father of Sheba and Dedan. The children of Dedan were the Ashurites, the Letushites and the Leummites.4The sons of Midian were Ephah, Epher, Hanok, Abida and Eldaah. All of them were members of Keturah’s family line.5Abraham left everything he owned to Isaac.6But while he was still living, he gave gifts to the sons of his concubines. Then he sent them away from his son Isaac. He sent them to the land of the east.7Abraham lived a total of 175 years.8He took his last breath and died when he was very old. He had lived a very long time. Then he joined the members of his family who had already died.9Abraham’s sons Isaac and Ishmael buried him. They put his body in the cave of Machpelah near Mamre. It was in the field of Ephron, the son of Zohar the Hittite.10Abraham had bought the field from the Hittites. He was buried there with his wife Sarah.11After Abraham died, God blessed his son Isaac. At that time Isaac was living near Beer Lahai Roi.
The sons of Ishmael
12Here is the story of the family line of Abraham’s son Ishmael. Hagar gave birth to Ishmael by Abraham. Hagar was Sarah’s slave from Egypt.13Here are the names of the sons of Ishmael. They are listed in the order they were born. Nebaioth was Ishmael’s eldest son. Then came Kedar, Adbeel, Mibsam,14Mishma, Dumah, Massa,15Hadad, Tema, Jetur, Naphish and Kedemah.16All of them were Ishmael’s sons. They were rulers of 12 tribes. They all lived in their own settlements and camps.17Ishmael lived a total of 137 years. Then he took his last breath and died. He joined the members of his family who had already died.18His children settled in the area between Havilah and Shur. It was near the eastern border of Egypt, as you go towards Ashur. Ishmael’s children weren’t friendly towards any of the tribes related to them.
Jacob and Esau
19Here is the story of the family line of Abraham’s son Isaac. Abraham was the father of Isaac.20Isaac was 40 years old when he married Rebekah. She was the daughter of Bethuel, the Aramean from Paddan Aram. She was also the sister of Laban, the Aramean.21Rebekah couldn’t have children. So Isaac prayed to the LORD for her. And the LORD answered his prayer. His wife Rebekah became pregnant.22The babies struggled with each other inside her. She said, ‘Why is this happening to me?’ So she went to ask the LORD what she should do.23The LORD said to her, ‘Two nations are in your body. Two tribes that are now inside you will be separated. One nation will be stronger than the other. The elder son will serve the younger one.’24The time came for Rebekah to have her babies. There were twin boys in her body.25The first one to come out was red. His whole body was covered with hair. So they named him Esau.26Then his brother came out. His hand was holding onto Esau’s heel. So he was named Jacob. Isaac was 60 years old when Rebekah had them.27The boys grew up. Esau became a skilful hunter. He liked the open country. But Jacob was content to stay at home among the tents.28Isaac liked the meat of wild animals. So Esau was his favourite son. But Rebekah’s favourite was Jacob.29One day Jacob was cooking some stew. Esau came in from the open country. He was very hungry.30He said to Jacob, ‘Quick! I’m very hungry! Let me have some of that red stew!’ That’s why he was also named Edom.31Jacob replied, ‘First sell me the rights that belong to you as the eldest son in the family.’32‘Look, I’m dying of hunger,’ Esau said. ‘What good are those rights to me?’33But Jacob said, ‘First promise to sell me your rights.’ So Esau promised to do it. He sold Jacob all the rights that belonged to him as the eldest son.34Then Jacob gave Esau some bread and some lentil stew. Esau ate and drank. Then he got up and left. So Esau didn’t value the rights that belonged to him as the eldest son.
1Abraham had taken another wife, whose name was Keturah.2She bore him Zimran, Jokshan, Medan, Midian, Ishbak and Shuah.3Jokshan was the father of Sheba and Dedan; the descendants of Dedan were the Ashurites, the Letushites and the Leummites.4The sons of Midian were Ephah, Epher, Hanok, Abida and Eldaah. All these were descendants of Keturah.5Abraham left everything he owned to Isaac.6But while he was still living, he gave gifts to the sons of his concubines and sent them away from his son Isaac to the land of the east.7Abraham lived a hundred and seventy-five years.8Then Abraham breathed his last and died at a good old age, an old man and full of years; and he was gathered to his people.9His sons Isaac and Ishmael buried him in the cave of Machpelah near Mamre, in the field of Ephron son of Zohar the Hittite,10the field Abraham had bought from the Hittites.[1] There Abraham was buried with his wife Sarah.11After Abraham’s death, God blessed his son Isaac, who then lived near Beer Lahai Roi.
Ishmael’s sons
12This is the account of the family line of Abraham’s son Ishmael, whom Sarah’s slave, Hagar the Egyptian, bore to Abraham.13These are the names of the sons of Ishmael, listed in the order of their birth: Nebaioth the firstborn of Ishmael, Kedar, Adbeel, Mibsam,14Mishma, Dumah, Massa,15Hadad, Tema, Jetur, Naphish and Kedemah.16These were the sons of Ishmael, and these are the names of the twelve tribal rulers according to their settlements and camps.17Ishmael lived a hundred and thirty-seven years. He breathed his last and died, and he was gathered to his people.18His descendants settled in the area from Havilah to Shur, near the eastern border of Egypt, as you go towards Ashur. And they lived in hostility towards[2] all the tribes related to them.
Jacob and Esau
19This is the account of the family line of Abraham’s son Isaac. Abraham became the father of Isaac,20and Isaac was forty years old when he married Rebekah daughter of Bethuel the Aramean from Paddan Aram[3] and sister of Laban the Aramean.21Isaac prayed to the Lord on behalf of his wife, because she was childless. The Lord answered his prayer, and his wife Rebekah became pregnant.22The babies jostled each other within her, and she said, ‘Why is this happening to me?’ So she went to enquire of the Lord.23The Lord said to her, ‘Two nations are in your womb, and two peoples from within you will be separated; one people will be stronger than the other, and the elder will serve the younger.’24When the time came for her to give birth, there were twin boys in her womb.25The first to come out was red, and his whole body was like a hairy garment; so they named him Esau.[4]26After this, his brother came out, with his hand grasping Esau’s heel; so he was named Jacob.[5] Isaac was sixty years old when Rebekah gave birth to them.27The boys grew up, and Esau became a skilful hunter, a man of the open country, while Jacob was content to stay at home among the tents.28Isaac, who had a taste for wild game, loved Esau, but Rebekah loved Jacob.29Once when Jacob was cooking some stew, Esau came in from the open country, famished.30He said to Jacob, ‘Quick, let me have some of that red stew! I’m famished!’ (That is why he was also called Edom.[6])31Jacob replied, ‘First sell me your birthright.’32‘Look, I am about to die,’ Esau said. ‘What good is the birthright to me?’33But Jacob said, ‘Swear to me first.’ So he swore an oath to him, selling his birthright to Jacob.34Then Jacob gave Esau some bread and some lentil stew. He ate and drank, and then got up and left. So Esau despised his birthright.
