Et, après qu'il a été vendu, le prix n'était-il pas à ta disposition? Comment as-tu pu mettre en ton coeur un pareil dessein? Ce n'est pas à des hommes que tu as menti, mais à Dieu.5Ananias, entendant ces paroles, tomba, et expira. Le souverain sacrificateur et ceux qui étaient avec lui étant survenus, ils convoquèrent le sanhédrin et tous les anciens des fils d'Israël, et ils envoyèrent chercher les apôtres à la prison.22Les huissiers, à leur arrivée, ne les trouvèrent point dans la prison. Ils s'en retournèrent, et firent leur rapport,23en disant: Nous avons trouvé la prison soigneusement fermée, et les gardes qui étaient devant les portes; mais, après avoir ouvert, nous n'avons trouvé personne dedans.24Lorsqu'ils eurent entendu ces paroles, le commandant du temple et les principaux sacrificateurs ne savaient que penser des apôtres et des suites de cette affaire.25Quelqu'un vint leur dire: Voici, les hommes que vous avez mis en prison sont dans le temple, et ils enseignent le peuple.26Alors le commandant partit avec les huissiers, et les conduisit sans violence, car ils avaient peur d'être lapidés par le peuple.27Après qu'ils les eurent amenés en présence du sanhédrin, le souverain sacrificateur les interrogea en ces termes:28Ne vous avons-nous pas défendu expressément d'enseigner en ce nom-là? Et voici, vous avez rempli Jérusalem de votre enseignement, et vous voulez faire retomber sur nous le sang de cet homme!29Pierre et les apôtres répondirent: Il faut obéir à Dieu plutôt qu'aux hommes.30Le Dieu de nos pères a ressuscité Jésus, que vous avez tué, en le pendant au bois.31Dieu l'a élevé par sa droite comme Prince et Sauveur, pour donner à Israël la repentance et le pardon des péchés.32Nous sommes témoins de ces choses, de même que le Saint Esprit, que Dieu a donné à ceux qui lui obéissent.33Furieux de ces paroles, ils voulaient les faire mourir.34Mais un pharisien, nommé Gamaliel, docteur de la loi, estimé de tout le peuple, se leva dans le sanhédrin, et ordonna de faire sortir un instant les apôtres.35Puis il leur dit: Hommes Israélites, prenez garde à ce que vous allez faire à l'égard de ces gens.36Car, il n'y a pas longtemps que parut Theudas, qui se donnait pour quelque chose, et auquel se rallièrent environ quatre cents hommes: il fut tué, et tous ceux qui l'avaient suivi furent mis en déroute et réduits à rien.37Après lui, parut Judas le Galiléen, à l'époque du recensement, et il attira du monde à son parti: il périt aussi, et tous ceux qui l'avaient suivi furent dispersés.38Et maintenant, je vous le dis ne vous occupez plus de ces hommes, et laissez-les aller. Si cette entreprise ou cette oeuvre vient des hommes, elle se détruira;39mais si elle vient de Dieu, vous ne pourrez la détruire. Ne courez pas le risque d'avoir combattu contre Dieu.40Ils se rangèrent à son avis. Et ayant appelé les apôtres, ils les firent battre de verges, ils leur défendirent de parler au nom de Jésus, et ils les relâchèrent.41Les apôtres se retirèrent de devant le sanhédrin, joyeux d'avoir été jugés dignes de subir des outrages pour le nom de Jésus.42Et chaque jour, dans le temple et dans les maisons, ils ne cessaient d'enseigner, et d'annoncer la bonne nouvelle de Jésus Christ.

(Dt 23:21; Ec 5:4; Mt 12:31; Lc 22:3; 2Co 9:7; Ep 4:30)4Hättest du es nicht als dein Eigentum behalten können? Und als du es verkauft hattest, war es nicht in deiner Gewalt? Warum hast du denn in deinem Herzen diese Tat beschlossen? Du hast nicht Menschen belogen, sondern Gott! (Ps 139:4; 1Th 4:6)5Als aber Ananias diese Worte hörte, fiel er nieder und verschied. Und es kam große Furcht über alle, die dies hörten. (Ps 64:10; Ac 5:11; 1Co 11:30; Ga 6:7)6Und die jungen Männer standen auf, hüllten ihn ein, trugen ihn hinaus und begruben ihn. (Lv 10:4)7Und es geschah, dass nach ungefähr drei Stunden auch seine Frau hereinkam, ohne zu wissen, was sich ereignet hatte.8Da richtete Petrus das Wort an sie: Sage mir, habt ihr das Gut um so und so viel verkauft? Sie sprach: Ja, um so viel! (Ac 5:2)9Petrus aber sprach zu ihr: Warum seid ihr übereingekommen, den Geist des Herrn zu versuchen? Siehe, die Füße derer, die deinen Mann begraben haben, sind vor der Tür, und sie werden auch dich hinaustragen! (Ps 50:19; Ec 7:26; Ml 3:8; Mt 4:7)10Da fiel sie sogleich zu seinen Füßen nieder und verschied; und als die jungen Männer hereinkamen, fanden sie sie tot und trugen sie hinaus und begruben sie bei ihrem Mann. (Ac 5:2)11Und es kam große Furcht über die ganze Gemeinde und über alle, die dies hörten. (Ps 52:7; Ac 5:5; Ac 19:7)
Zeichen und Wunder geschehen durch die Apostel
12Durch die Hände der Apostel aber geschahen viele Zeichen und Wunder unter dem Volk; und sie waren alle einmütig beisammen in der Halle Salomos[1]. (Mc 16:20; Jn 10:23; Ac 3:11; Ac 4:30)13Von den Übrigen aber wagte keiner sich ihnen anzuschließen; doch das Volk schätzte sie hoch; (Ac 4:21; 1P 2:12)14und immer mehr wurden hinzugetan, die an den Herrn glaubten, eine Menge von Männern und Frauen, (Ac 4:4; Ac 6:7)15sodass man die Kranken auf die Gassen hinaustrug und sie auf Betten und Bahren legte, damit, wenn Petrus käme, auch nur sein Schatten auf einen von ihnen fiele. (Mt 14:36)16Es kamen aber auch viele aus den umliegenden Städten in Jerusalem zusammen und brachten Kranke und von unreinen Geistern Geplagte, die alle geheilt wurden. (Mc 16:18; Ac 4:30; Ac 8:7)
Die Festnahme der Apostel und ihre wunderbare Befreiung
17Es erhob sich aber der Hohepriester und sein ganzer Anhang, nämlich die Richtung der Sadduzäer; sie waren voll Eifersucht (Jn 12:19; Ac 4:1; Ac 13:45)18und legten ihre Hände an die Apostel und brachten sie in öffentlichen Gewahrsam. (Lc 21:12; Ac 4:3; Ac 16:23)19Aber ein Engel des Herrn öffnete in der Nacht die Türen des Gefängnisses, führte sie hinaus und sprach: (Ac 12:7; He 1:14)20Geht hin, tretet auf und redet im Tempel zum Volk alle Worte dieses Lebens! (Ac 11:14; Rm 1:16; 1Jn 5:11)21Als sie das hörten, gingen sie frühmorgens in den Tempel und lehrten. Es kam aber der Hohepriester und sein Anhang, und sie riefen den Hohen Rat und alle Ältesten der Kinder Israels zusammen und sandten in das Gefängnis, um sie herbringen zu lassen. (Jn 8:2)22Als aber die Diener hinkamen, fanden sie jene nicht im Gefängnis. Da kehrten sie zurück, meldeten es23und sprachen: Das Gefängnis fanden wir zwar mit aller Sorgfalt verschlossen und die Wächter außen vor den Türen stehen; als wir aber öffneten, fanden wir niemand darin! (Ps 44:8)24Als aber der [Hohe]priester und der Tempelhauptmann und die obersten Priester diese Worte hörten, gerieten sie ihretwegen in Verlegenheit, was daraus werden sollte. (Ac 4:1)25Da kam jemand und meldete ihnen und sprach: Siehe, die Männer, die ihr ins Gefängnis gebracht habt, stehen im Tempel und lehren das Volk! (Ac 5:18)
Erneutes Zeugnis vor dem Hohen Rat
26Da ging der Hauptmann mit den Dienern hin und führte sie herbei, doch nicht gewaltsam, damit sie nicht gesteinigt würden; denn sie fürchteten das Volk. (Lc 20:6)27Und sie brachten sie und stellten sie vor den Hohen Rat; und der Hohepriester fragte sie (Ac 5:21; Ac 5:34; Ac 5:41; Ac 6:12; Ac 22:30; Ac 23:1; Ac 23:15)28und sprach: Haben wir euch nicht streng verboten, in diesem Namen zu lehren? Und siehe, ihr habt Jerusalem erfüllt mit eurer Lehre und wollt das Blut dieses Menschen auf uns bringen! (Mt 23:35; Mt 27:25; Ac 2:23; Ac 3:15; Ac 4:18; Ac 7:52)29Aber Petrus und die Apostel antworteten und sprachen: Man muss Gott mehr gehorchen als den Menschen! (Ac 4:19; He 11:23)30Der Gott unserer Väter hat Jesus auferweckt, den ihr umgebracht habt, indem ihr ihn ans Holz gehängt habt. (Ac 2:24; Ga 3:13; 1P 2:24)31Diesen hat Gott zum Fürsten und Retter zu seiner Rechten erhöht, um Israel Buße und Vergebung der Sünden zu gewähren. (Is 9:5; Lc 24:47; Ac 2:33; Ac 2:36; Ac 4:12; Ep 1:22)32Und wir sind seine Zeugen, was diese Tatsachen betrifft, und auch der Heilige Geist, welchen Gott denen gegeben hat, die ihm gehorchen. (Jn 15:26; Ac 1:8)
Gamaliels Rat
33Als sie aber das hörten, wurden sie tief getroffen und fassten den Beschluss, sie umzubringen. (Lc 6:11; Ac 7:54)34Es stand aber im Hohen Rat ein Pharisäer namens Gamaliel auf, ein beim ganzen Volk angesehener Gesetzeslehrer, und befahl, die Apostel für kurze Zeit nach draußen zu bringen; (Ac 22:3)35dann sprach er zu ihnen: Ihr Männer von Israel, nehmt euch in acht, was ihr mit diesen Menschen tun wollt! (Jr 26:19; Mt 27:19)36Denn vor diesen Tagen trat Theudas auf und gab vor, er wäre etwas; ihm hing eine Anzahl Männer an, etwa 400: Er wurde erschlagen, und alle, die ihm folgten, zerstreuten sich und wurden zunichte. (Pr 24:21; Ga 6:3)37Nach diesem trat Judas der Galiläer auf in den Tagen der Volkszählung und brachte unter seiner Führung viele aus dem Volk zum Abfall: Auch er kam um, und alle, die ihm folgten, wurden zerstreut.38Und jetzt sage ich euch: Lasst von diesen Menschen ab und lasst sie gewähren! Denn wenn dieses Vorhaben oder dieses Werk von Menschen ist, so wird es zunichtewerden; (Mt 15:13)39ist es aber von Gott, so könnt ihr es nicht vernichten. Dass ihr nicht etwa als solche erfunden werdet, die gegen Gott kämpfen! (Pr 21:30; Is 43:13; Lc 11:20; Ac 9:5; 1Co 1:25)40Und sie fügten sich ihm und riefen die Apostel herbei und gaben ihnen Schläge und verboten ihnen, in dem Namen Jesu zu reden, und entließen sie. (Mc 13:9; Ac 4:18)41Sie nun gingen voll Freude vom Hohen Rat hinweg, weil sie gewürdigt worden waren, Schmach zu leiden um Seines Namens willen; (Ac 16:25; Ac 21:13; Ph 1:28; 2Th 1:12; 1P 4:14)42und sie hörten nicht auf, jeden Tag im Tempel und in den Häusern zu lehren und das Evangelium von Jesus, dem Christus, zu verkündigen.
