1Dieu bénit Noé et ses fils, et leur dit: Soyez féconds, multipliez, et remplissez la terre.2Vous serez un sujet de crainte et d'effroi pour tout animal de la terre, pour tout oiseau du ciel, pour tout ce qui se meut sur la terre, et pour tous les poissons de la mer: ils sont livrés entre vos mains.3Tout ce qui se meut et qui a vie vous servira de nourriture: je vous donne tout cela comme l'herbe verte.4Seulement, vous ne mangerez point de chair avec son âme, avec son sang.5Sachez-le aussi, je redemanderai le sang de vos âmes, je le redemanderai à tout animal; et je redemanderai l'âme de l'homme à l'homme, à l'homme qui est son frère.6Si quelqu'un verse le sang de l'homme, par l'homme son sang sera versé; car Dieu a fait l'homme à son image.7Et vous, soyez féconds et multipliez, répandez-vous sur la terre et multipliez sur elle.8Dieu parla encore à Noé et à ses fils avec lui, en disant:9Voici, j'établis mon alliance avec vous et avec votre postérité après vous;10avec tous les êtres vivants qui sont avec vous, tant les oiseaux que le bétail et tous les animaux de la terre, soit avec tous ceux qui sont sortis de l'arche, soit avec tous les animaux de la terre.11J'établis mon alliance avec vous: aucune chair ne sera plus exterminée par les eaux du déluge, et il n'y aura plus de déluge pour détruire la terre.12Et Dieu dit: C'est ici le signe de l'alliance que j'établis entre moi et vous, et tous les êtres vivants qui sont avec vous, pour les générations à toujours:13j'ai placé mon arc dans la nue, et il servira de signe d'alliance entre moi et la terre.14Quand j'aurai rassemblé des nuages au-dessus de la terre, l'arc paraîtra dans la nue;15et je me souviendrai de mon alliance entre moi et vous, et tous les êtres vivants, de toute chair, et les eaux ne deviendront plus un déluge pour détruire toute chair.16L'arc sera dans la nue; et je le regarderai, pour me souvenir de l'alliance perpétuelle entre Dieu et tous les êtres vivants, de toute chair qui est sur la terre.17Et Dieu dit à Noé: Tel est le signe de l'alliance que j'établis entre moi et toute chair qui est sur la terre.18Les fils de Noé, qui sortirent de l'arche, étaient Sem, Cham et Japhet. Cham fut le père de Canaan.19Ce sont là les trois fils de Noé, et c'est leur postérité qui peupla toute la terre.20Noé commença à cultiver la terre, et planta de la vigne.21Il but du vin, s'enivra, et se découvrit au milieu de sa tente.22Cham, père de Canaan, vit la nudité de son père, et il le rapporta dehors à ses deux frères.23Alors Sem et Japhet prirent le manteau, le mirent sur leurs épaules, marchèrent à reculons, et couvrirent la nudité de leur père; comme leur visage était détourné, ils ne virent point la nudité de leur père.24Lorsque Noé se réveilla de son vin, il apprit ce que lui avait fait son fils cadet.25Et il dit: Maudit soit Canaan! qu'il soit l'esclave des esclaves de ses frères!26Il dit encore: Béni soit l'Éternel, Dieu de Sem, et que Canaan soit leur esclave!27Que Dieu étende les possessions de Japhet, qu'il habite dans les tentes de Sem, et que Canaan soit leur esclave!28Noé vécut, après le déluge, trois cent cinquante ans.29Tous les jours de Noé furent de neuf cent cinquante ans; puis il mourut.
1Gott segnete Noah und seine Söhne und sprach: »Vermehrt euch und bevölkert wieder die Erde!2Alle Tiere auf der Erde, alle Vögel am Himmel und alle Fische im Meer werden sich vor euch fürchten müssen, denn ich gebe sie in eure Hand.3Von jetzt an könnt ihr euch von ihrem Fleisch ernähren, nicht nur von den Pflanzen, die ich euch als Nahrung zugewiesen habe.4Aber esst kein Fleisch, in dem noch Blut ist, denn im Blut ist das Leben.5Niemand darf einen anderen Menschen ermorden! Wer dies tut – ob Mensch oder Tier –, muss mit dem Tod dafür büßen. Ich selbst werde ihn zur Rechenschaft ziehen.6Wer also das Blut eines Menschen vergießt, mit dem soll dasselbe geschehen: Er muss hingerichtet werden. Denn ich habe den Menschen als mein Ebenbild geschaffen.7So seht nun zu, dass eure Nachkommen zahlreich sind. Vermehrt euch, bis es auf der Erde von euch wimmelt!«8Dann sagte Gott zu Noah und seinen Söhnen:9»Ich schließe einen Bund mit euch und mit allen euren Nachkommen,10dazu mit den vielen verschiedenen Tieren, die bei euch in der Arche waren, von den größten bis zu den kleinsten.11Und das ist mein Versprechen: Nie wieder werde ich eine so große Flut schicken, um die Erde und alles, was auf ihr lebt, zu vernichten.«12-13Weiter sagte er: »Diesen Bund schließe ich mit euch und allen Bewohnern der Erde, immer und ewig will ich dazu stehen. Der Regenbogen soll ein Zeichen für dieses Versprechen sein.14Wenn ich Wolken am Himmel aufziehen lasse und der Regenbogen darin erscheint,15dann werde ich an meinen Bund denken, den ich mit Mensch und Tier geschlossen habe: Nie wieder eine so große Flut! Nie wieder soll alles Leben auf diese Weise vernichtet werden!16-17Ja«, sagte Gott, »diese Zusage gilt für alle Zeiten, der Regenbogen ist das Erinnerungszeichen. Wenn er zu sehen ist, werde ich daran denken.«
Noahs Söhne
18Zusammen mit Noah hatten auch seine drei Söhne Sem, Ham und Jafet das Schiff verlassen. Ham war der Vater von Kanaan.19Von diesen dreien stammen alle Völker der Erde ab.20Noah betrieb Ackerbau und legte als Erster einen Weinberg an.21Eines Tages trank er so viel von dem Wein, dass er betrunken wurde und sich nackt in seinem Zelt schlafen legte.22Ham, der Vater von Kanaan, entdeckte ihn so und lief nach draußen, um es seinen beiden Brüdern zu erzählen.23Da nahmen Sem und Jafet einen Mantel, legten ihn über ihre Schultern und gingen rückwärts ins Zelt. Sie ließen ihn mit abgewandtem Gesicht über ihren Vater fallen, um ihn nicht nackt zu sehen.24Als Noah aus seinem Rausch aufwachte, erfuhr er, was sein Sohn Ham ihm angetan hatte.25»Verflucht sei Kanaan!«, rief er. »Er soll für seine Brüder der niedrigste aller Knechte sein!«26Weiter sagte er: »Gelobt sei der HERR, der Gott Sems! Er mache Kanaan zu Sems Knecht!27Gott gebe Jafet viel Land, damit er sich ausbreiten kann. Er lasse Jafet friedlich mit Sem zusammenwohnen, aber er mache Kanaan zu seinem Knecht!«28Noah lebte nach der Flut noch 350 Jahre29und starb im Alter von 950 Jahren.
1Then God blessed Noah and his sons, saying to them, ‘Be fruitful and increase in number and fill the earth.2The fear and dread of you will fall on all the beasts of the earth, and on all the birds in the sky, on every creature that moves along the ground, and on all the fish in the sea; they are given into your hands.3Everything that lives and moves about will be food for you. Just as I gave you the green plants, I now give you everything.4‘But you must not eat meat that has its lifeblood still in it.5And for your lifeblood I will surely demand an accounting. I will demand an accounting from every animal. And from each human being, too, I will demand an accounting for the life of another human being.6‘Whoever sheds human blood, by humans shall their blood be shed; for in the image of God has God made mankind.7As for you, be fruitful and increase in number; multiply on the earth and increase upon it.’8Then God said to Noah and to his sons with him:9‘I now establish my covenant with you and with your descendants after you10and with every living creature that was with you – the birds, the livestock and all the wild animals, all those that came out of the ark with you – every living creature on earth.11I establish my covenant with you: never again will all life be destroyed by the waters of a flood; never again will there be a flood to destroy the earth.’12And God said, ‘This is the sign of the covenant I am making between me and you and every living creature with you, a covenant for all generations to come:13I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth.14Whenever I bring clouds over the earth and the rainbow appears in the clouds,15I will remember my covenant between me and you and all living creatures of every kind. Never again will the waters become a flood to destroy all life.16Whenever the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and all living creatures of every kind on the earth.’17So God said to Noah, ‘This is the sign of the covenant I have established between me and all life on the earth.’
The sons of Noah
18The sons of Noah who came out of the ark were Shem, Ham and Japheth. (Ham was the father of Canaan.)19These were the three sons of Noah, and from them came the people who were scattered over the whole earth.20Noah, a man of the soil, proceeded[1] to plant a vineyard.21When he drank some of its wine, he became drunk and lay uncovered inside his tent.22Ham, the father of Canaan, saw his father naked and told his two brothers outside.23But Shem and Japheth took a garment and laid it across their shoulders; then they walked in backwards and covered their father’s naked body. Their faces were turned the other way so that they would not see their father naked.24When Noah awoke from his wine and found out what his youngest son had done to him,25he said, ‘Cursed be Canaan! The lowest of slaves will he be to his brothers.’26He also said, ‘Praise be to the Lord, the God of Shem! May Canaan be the slave of Shem.27May God extend Japheth’s[2] territory; may Japheth live in the tents of Shem, and may Canaan be the slave of Japheth.’28After the flood Noah lived 350 years.29Noah lived a total of 950 years, and then he died.
