1Amaziah was twenty and five years old when he began to reign, and he reigned twenty and nine years in Jerusalem. And his mother' name was Jehoaddan of Jerusalem.2And he did that which was right in the sight of the LORD, but not with a perfect heart.3Now it came to pass, when the kingdom was established to him, that he slew his servants that had killed the king his father.4But he slew not their children, but did as it is written in the law in the book of Moses, where the LORD commanded, saying, The fathers shall not die for the children, neither shall the children die for the fathers, but every man shall die for his own sin.5Moreover Amaziah gathered Judah together, and made them captains over thousands, and captains over hundreds, according to the houses of their fathers, throughout all Judah and Benjamin: and he numbered them from twenty years old and above, and found them three hundred thousand choice men, able to go forth to war, that could handle spear and shield.6He hired also an hundred thousand mighty men of valour out of Israel for an hundred talents of silver.7But there came a man of God to him, saying, O king, let not the army of Israel go with thee; for the LORD is not with Israel, to wit, with all the children of Ephraim.8But if thou wilt go, do it , be strong for the battle: God shall make thee fall before the enemy: for God hath power to help, and to cast down.9And Amaziah said to the man of God, But what shall we do for the hundred talents which I have given to the army of Israel? And the man of God answered, The LORD is able to give thee much more than this.10Then Amaziah separated them, to wit , the army that was come to him out of Ephraim, to go home again: wherefore their anger was greatly kindled against Judah, and they returned home in great anger.11And Amaziah strengthened himself, and led forth his people, and went to the valley of salt, and smote of the children of Seir ten thousand.12And other ten thousand left alive did the children of Judah carry away captive, and brought them unto the top of the rock, and cast them down from the top of the rock, that they all were broken in pieces.13But the soldiers of the army which Amaziah sent back, that they should not go with him to battle, fell upon the cities of Judah, from Samaria even unto Bethhoron, and smote three thousand of them, and took much spoil.14Now it came to pass, after that Amaziah was come from the slaughter of the Edomites, that he brought the gods of the children of Seir, and set them up to be his gods, and bowed down himself before them, and burned incense unto them.15Wherefore the anger of the LORD was kindled against Amaziah, and he sent unto him a prophet, which said unto him, Why hast thou sought after the gods of the people, which could not deliver their own people out of thine hand?16And it came to pass, as he talked with him, that the king said unto him, Art thou made of the king' counsel? forbear; why shouldest thou be smitten? Then the prophet forbare, and said, I know that God hath determined to destroy thee, because thou hast done this, and hast not hearkened unto my counsel.17Then Amaziah king of Judah took advice, and sent to Joash, the son of Jehoahaz, the son of Jehu, king of Israel, saying, Come, let us see one another in the face.18And Joash king of Israel sent to Amaziah king of Judah, saying, The thistle that was in Lebanon sent to the cedar that was in Lebanon, saying, Give thy daughter to my son to wife: and there passed by a wild beast that was in Lebanon, and trode down the thistle.19Thou sayest, Lo, thou hast smitten the Edomites; and thine heart lifteth thee up to boast: abide now at home; why shouldest thou meddle to thine hurt, that thou shouldest fall, even thou, and Judah with thee?20But Amaziah would not hear; for it came of God, that he might deliver them into the hand of their enemies , because they sought after the gods of Edom.21So Joash the king of Israel went up; and they saw one another in the face, both he and Amaziah king of Judah, at Bethshemesh, which belongeth to Judah.22And Judah was put to the worse before Israel, and they fled every man to his tent.23And Joash the king of Israel took Amaziah king of Judah, the son of Joash, the son of Jehoahaz, at Bethshemesh, and brought him to Jerusalem, and brake down the wall of Jerusalem from the gate of Ephraim to the corner gate, four hundred cubits.24And he took all the gold and the silver, and all the vessels that were found in the house of God with Obededom, and the treasures of the king' house, the hostages also, and returned to Samaria.25And Amaziah the son of Joash king of Judah lived after the death of Joash son of Jehoahaz king of Israel fifteen years.26Now the rest of the acts of Amaziah, first and last, behold, are they not written in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel?27Now after the time that Amaziah did turn away from following the LORD they made a conspiracy against him in Jerusalem; and he fled to Lachish: but they sent to Lachish after him, and slew him there.28And they brought him upon horses, and buried him with his fathers in the city of Judah.
König Amazja von Juda und sein Sieg über die Edomiter

(Ex 21:14; 2Ch 24:25; Eze 18:4; Eze 18:20)4Aber ihre Söhne tötete er nicht, sondern er handelte, wie es geschrieben steht im Buch des Gesetzes Moses, wo der HERR geboten hatte und sprach: »Die Väter sollen nicht um der Söhne willen sterben und die Söhne nicht um der Väter willen, sondern jeder soll um seiner eigenen Sünde willen sterben!« (De 24:16; Jer 31:29; Eze 18:20)5Und Amazja versammelte Juda und stellte sie auf nach den Vaterhäusern, nach den Obersten über die Tausendschaften und nach den Obersten über die Hundertschaften, von ganz Juda und Benjamin, und er musterte sie, von 20 Jahren an und darüber, und es fanden sich 300 000 Auserlesene, die in den Krieg ziehen und Speer und Schild handhaben konnten. (2Ch 14:7; 2Ch 17:14; 2Ch 26:11)6Dazu warb er aus Israel 100 000 starke Kriegsleute um 100 Talente Silber an.7Aber ein Mann Gottes kam zu ihm und sprach: O König, lass das Heer Israels nicht mit dir ziehen; denn der HERR ist nicht mit Israel, mit keinem von den Söhnen Ephraims; (1Sa 9:6; 1Ki 17:24; 2Ki 8:2; 2Ki 8:7; 2Ki 8:11; 2Ch 13:12; 2Ch 19:2; Ps 78:9; 1Ti 6:11; 2Ti 3:17)8sondern geh du hin, handle und sei stark zum Kampf! Gott könnte dich sonst zu Fall bringen vor dem Feind; denn bei Gott steht die Kraft, zu helfen und zu Fall zu bringen! (1Sa 2:4; 2Ch 14:10; 2Ch 20:6; Ps 62:12; Pr 21:31; Ec 9:11)9Da sprach Amazja zu dem Mann Gottes: Was wird dann aber aus den 100 Talenten, die ich den israelitischen Truppen gegeben habe? Der Mann Gottes sprach: Der HERR hat dir noch mehr zu geben als nur das! (Ps 24:1; Pr 10:22; Hag 2:8; 1Co 9:8)10Da sonderte Amazja seine Leute ab von den Truppen, die aus Ephraim zu ihm gekommen waren, und er ließ sie an ihren Ort hingehen. Da entbrannte ihr Zorn sehr gegen Juda, und sie kehrten in glühendem Zorn wieder heim. (2Sa 19:43; Pr 29:22)11Amazja aber fasste Mut und führte sein Volk aus und zog in das Salztal und schlug von den Söhnen Seirs 10 000 [Mann]. (2Sa 8:13; 2Ki 14:7; Ps 60:2)12Und die Söhne Judas fingen 10 000 von ihnen lebendig, führten sie auf eine Felsenspitze und stürzten sie von der Felsenspitze hinunter, dass sie alle zerschmettert wurden. Amazjas Götzendienst und Niederlage gegen Israel
14Und es geschah, als Amazja von der Schlacht gegen die Edomiter heimkehrte, da brachte er die Götter der Söhne Seirs mit und stellte sie für sich als Götter auf und betete vor ihnen an und räucherte ihnen. (Ex 23:24; Ex 34:14; 2Ch 28:23)15Da entbrannte der Zorn des HERRN gegen Amazja; und er sandte einen Propheten zu ihm, der sprach zu ihm: Warum suchst du die Götter des Volkes, die ihr Volk nicht aus deiner Hand errettet haben? (Isa 44:10; Isa 44:19; Isa 45:20; Jer 10:5; 1Co 8:4)16Als dieser aber [so] zu ihm redete, sprach [Amazja] zu ihm: Hat man dich zum Ratgeber des Königs gemacht? Hör auf; warum willst du geschlagen werden? Da hörte der Prophet auf und sprach: Ich merke wohl, dass Gott beschlossen hat, dich zu verderben, weil du dies getan und meinem Rat nicht gehorcht hast! (1Sa 2:25; 2Ch 24:20; Pr 1:29; Isa 30:10; 2Ti 4:3)17Und Amazja, der König von Juda, beriet sich und sandte [Boten] hin zu Joas, dem Sohn des Joahas, des Sohnes Jehus, dem König von Israel, und ließ ihm sagen: Komm, wir wollen einander ins Angesicht sehen![1] (2Sa 2:1; 2Ki 14:8; 2Ch 25:13; Isa 30:1)18Da sandte Joas, der König von Israel, [Boten] zu Amazja, dem König von Juda, und ließ ihm sagen: Der Dornstrauch auf dem Libanon sandte zur Zeder auf dem Libanon und ließ ihr sagen: Gib deine Tochter meinem Sohn zur Frau! Aber das Wild auf dem Libanon lief über den Dornstrauch und zertrat ihn. (Jud 9:8; 1Ki 5:13; Ps 80:14)19Du aber denkst daran, dass du die Edomiter geschlagen hast, und dein Herz verführt dich zum Stolz. Bleibe du jetzt daheim! Warum willst du das Unheil herausfordern, dass du zu Fall kommst und Juda mit dir? (2Ch 26:16; 2Ch 32:25; 2Ch 35:21; Pr 16:18; Pr 20:3; Lu 14:31; Jas 4:6; 1Pe 5:5)20Aber Amazja wollte nicht hören; denn es war von Gott [so gefügt], um sie in die Hand [der Feinde] zu geben, weil sie die Götter der Edomiter gesucht hatten. (2Ch 22:7; 2Ch 25:16; Ps 33:9; Ps 33:11; Isa 46:10)21Da zog Joas, der König von Israel, herauf, und sie sahen sich ins Angesicht, er und Amazja, der König von Juda, bei Beth-Schemesch, das zu Juda gehört. (Jos 21:16; 1Sa 6:9; 1Sa 6:19; 2Ch 25:17)22Aber Juda wurde vor Israel geschlagen, sodass jeder in sein Zelt floh. (1Sa 4:10; 1Ki 22:36; 2Ch 28:5)23Und Joas, der König von Israel, nahm Amazja, den König von Juda, den Sohn des Joas, des Sohnes des Joahas, bei Beth-Schemesch gefangen und brachte ihn nach Jerusalem; und er riss die Mauer von Jerusalem ein, vom Tor Ephraim bis zum Ecktor, auf 400 Ellen Länge. (2Ki 14:14; 2Ch 12:9)25Aber Amazja, der Sohn des Joas, der König von Juda, lebte nach dem Tod des Joas, des Sohnes des Joahas, des Königs von Israel, noch 15 Jahre lang. (2Ki 14:17)26Was aber mehr von Amazja zu sagen ist, die früheren und die späteren [Begebenheiten], siehe, ist das nicht aufgezeichnet im Buch der Könige von Juda und Israel? (2Ki 14:15; 2Ch 20:34)27Und von der Zeit an, da Amazja vom HERRN abwich, bestand in Jerusalem eine Verschwörung gegen ihn. Er aber floh nach Lachis. Da sandten sie ihm [Leute] hinterher bis nach Lachis und töteten ihn dort. (2Ki 14:19; 2Ki 15:15; 2Ki 15:30; 2Ki 18:14; 2Ch 11:9; 2Ch 24:25; 2Ch 25:14; Ne 11:30; Eze 18:24; Eze 18:26; Mt 24:13)28Und sie brachten ihn auf Pferden zurück und begruben ihn bei seinen Vätern in der Hauptstadt Judas.
