1 And Jesus answered and spake unto them again by parables, and said, 2 The kingdom of heaven is like unto a certain king, which made a marriage for his son, 3 And sent forth his servants to call them that were bidden to the wedding: and they would not come. 4 Again, he sent forth other servants, saying, Tell them which are bidden, Behold, I have prepared my dinner: my oxen and my fatlings are killed, and all things are ready: come unto the marriage. 5 But they made light of it, and went their ways, one to his farm, another to his merchandise: 6 And the remnant took his servants, and entreated them spitefully, and slew them. 7 But when the king heard thereof, he was wroth: and he sent forth his armies, and destroyed those murderers, and burned up their city. 8 Then saith he to his servants, The wedding is ready, but they which were bidden were not worthy. 9 Go ye therefore into the highways, and as many as ye shall find, bid to the marriage. 10 So those servants went out into the highways, and gathered together all as many as they found, both bad and good: and the wedding was furnished with guests. 11 And when the king came in to see the guests, he saw there a man which had not on a wedding garment: 12 And he saith unto him, Friend, how camest thou in hither not having a wedding garment? And he was speechless. 13 Then said the king to the servants, Bind him hand and foot, and take him away, and cast him into outer darkness; there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. 14 For many are called, but few are chosen. 15 Then went the Pharisees, and took counsel how they might entangle him in his talk. 16 And they sent out unto him their disciples with the Herodians, saying, Master, we know that thou art true, and teachest the way of God in truth, neither carest thou for any man: for thou regardest not the person of men. 17 Tell us therefore, What thinkest thou? Is it lawful to give tribute unto Caesar, or not? 18 But Jesus perceived their wickedness, and said, Why tempt ye me, ye hypocrites? 19 Shew me the tribute money. And they brought unto him a penny. 20 And he saith unto them, Whose is this image and superscription? 21 They say unto him, Caesar's. Then saith he unto them, Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar's; and unto God the things that are God's. 22 When they had heard these words, they marvelled, and left him, and went their way. 23 The same day came to him the Sadducees, which say that there is no resurrection, and asked him, 24 Saying, Master, Moses said, If a man die, having no children, his brother shall marry his wife, and raise up seed unto his brother. 25 Now there were with us seven brethren: and the first, when he had married a wife, deceased, and, having no issue, left his wife unto his brother: 26 Likewise the second also, and the third, unto the seventh. 27 And last of all the woman died also. 28 Therefore in the resurrection whose wife shall she be of the seven? for they all had her. 29 Jesus answered and said unto them, Ye do err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God. 30 For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as the angels of God in heaven. 31 But as touching the resurrection of the dead, have ye not read that which was spoken unto you by God, saying, 32 I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob? God is not the God of the dead, but of the living. 33 And when the multitude heard this, they were astonished at his doctrine. 34 But when the Pharisees had heard that he had put the Sadducees to silence, they were gathered together. 35 Then one of them, which was a lawyer, asked him a question, tempting him, and saying, 36 Master, which is the great commandment in the law? 37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. 38 This is the first and great commandment. 39 And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. 40 On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets. 41 While the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them, 42 Saying, What think ye of Christ? whose son is he? They say unto him, The Son of David. 43 He saith unto them, How then doth David in spirit call him Lord, saying, 44 The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, till I make thine enemies thy footstool? 45 If David then call him Lord, how is he his son? 46 And no man was able to answer him a word, neither durst any man from that day forth ask him any more questions.

Die Einladung zur Hochzeit

1 Jesus sagte ihnen noch ein Gleichnis: 2 „Mit der Himmelsherrschaft verhält es sich wie mit einem König, der seinem Sohn die Hochzeit ausrichtete. 3 Als es so weit war, schickte er seine Diener los, um die, die er zum Fest eingeladen hatte, rufen zu lassen. Doch sie wollten nicht kommen. 4 Da schickte er noch einmal Diener los und ließ den Eingeladenen sagen: 'Das Festmahl ist angerichtet, Ochsen und Mastkälber geschlachtet, alles ist bereit. Beeilt euch und kommt!' 5 Doch sie kümmerten sich überhaupt nicht darum. Der eine hatte auf dem Feld zu tun, der andere im Geschäft. 6 Einige jedoch packten die Boten, misshandelten sie und brachten sie um. 7 Da wurde der König zornig. Er schickte seine Truppen aus, ließ jene Mörder umbringen und ihre Stadt in Brand stecken. 8 Dann sagte er zu seinen Dienern: 'Das Hochzeitsfest ist vorbereitet, aber die Gäste, die ich eingeladen hatte, waren es nicht wert. 9 Geht jetzt auf die Straßen und ladet alle ein, die ihr trefft.' 10 Das taten sie und holten alle herein, die sie fanden, Böse und Gute. So füllte sich der Hochzeitssaal mit Gästen. 11 Als der König hereinkam, um zu sehen, wer da gekommen war, fand er einen, der kein festliches Gewand anhatte. 12 Mein Freund', sagte er zu ihm, 'wie bist du überhaupt ohne Festgewand hereingekommen?' Aber der wusste keine Antwort darauf. 13 Da befahl der König seinen Dienern: 'Fesselt ihm Hände und Füße, und werft ihn hinaus in die Finsternis.' Dort fängt dann das große Weinen und Zähneknirschen an. 14 Denn viele sind gerufen, aber nur wenige sind erwählt.“

15 Da kamen die Pharisäer zusammen und berieten, wie sie Jesus mit seinen eigenen Worten in eine Falle locken könnten, 16 und schickten dann ihre Jünger zusammen mit einigen Anhängern des Herodes^[1] zu ihm. „Rabbi“, sagten diese, „wir wissen, dass du aufrichtig bist und uns wirklich zeigst, wie man nach Gottes Willen leben soll. Du fragst nicht nach der Meinung der Leute und bevorzugst niemand. 17 Nun sage uns, was du darüber denkst: Ist es richtig, dem Kaiser Steuern zu zahlen, oder nicht?“ 18 Aber Jesus durchschaute ihre Bosheit und sagte: „Ihr Heuchler, warum wollt ihr mir eine Falle stellen? 19 Zeigt mir die Münze, mit der ihr die Steuern bezahlt!“ Sie reichten ihm einen Denar.^[2] 20 Da fragte er: „Wessen Bild und Name ist darauf?“ 21 „Des Kaisers“, erwiderten sie. „Nun“, sagte Jesus, „dann gebt dem Kaiser, was dem Kaiser gehört, und Gott, was Gott gehört.“ 22 Über diese Antwort waren sie so verblüfft, dass sie sprachlos weggingen.

Gibt es eine Auferstehung?

23 An diesem Tag kamen auch noch einige der Sadduzäer^[3] zu Jesus, die behaupteten, es gäbe keine Auferstehung nach dem Tod. Sie fragten: 24 „Rabbi, Mose hat uns vorgeschrieben: Wenn ein Mann stirbt und keine Kinder hat, dann soll sein Bruder die Frau heiraten und seinem Bruder Nachkommen verschaffen. (De 25:5) 25 Nun waren da sieben Brüder. Der Älteste von ihnen heiratete, starb jedoch kinderlos und hinterließ die Frau seinem Bruder. 26 Ebenso ging es auch dem Zweiten, dem Dritten, bis zum Siebten. 27 Zuletzt starb auch die Frau. 28 Wessen Frau wird sie nun nach der Auferstehung sein? Denn alle waren ja mit ihr verheiratet.“ 29 Jesus erwiderte: „Ihr irrt euch, weil ihr weder die Schrift noch die Kraft Gottes kennt. 30 Denn wenn die Toten auferstehen, heiraten sie nicht mehr, sondern werden wie die Engel im Himmel sein. 31 Was aber die Auferstehung der Toten überhaupt betrifft: Habt ihr nicht gelesen, was Gott euch sagt: 32 Ich bin der Gott Abrahams, der Gott Isaaks und der Gott Jakobs'? Das heißt doch: Er ist nicht ein Gott von Toten, sondern von Lebenden!“ (Ex 3:6) 33 Die ganze Menschenmenge, die ihm zugehört hatte, war von seinen Worten tief beeindruckt.

34 Als die Pharisäer hörten, dass Jesus die Sadduzäer zum Schweigen gebracht hatte, kamen sie zusammen. 35 Nun versuchte einer von ihnen, ein Gesetzeslehrer, Jesus eine Falle zu stellen. 36 „Was ist das wichtigste Gebot von allen?“, fragte er ihn. 37 Jesus antwortete: „'Du sollst den Herrn, deinen Gott, von ganzem Herzen lieben, mit deiner ganzen Seele und deinem ganzen Verstand!' (De 6:5) 38 Das ist das erste und wichtigste Gebot. 39 Das zweite ist ebenso wichtig: 'Liebe deinen Nächsten wie dich selbst!' (Le 19:18) 40 Mit diesen beiden Geboten ist alles gesagt, was das Gesetz und die Propheten wollen.“ 41 Nun fragte Jesus die versammelten Pharisäer: 42 „Was denkt ihr über den Messias? Wessen Sohn ist er?“ – „Der Sohn Davids“, erwiderten sie. 43 Da sagte Jesus: „Warum hat ihn David dann aber – durch den Heiligen Geist ‹geführt› – Herr genannt? Er sagte nämlich: 44 'Der Herr sprach zu meinem Herrn: „Setz dich an meine rechte Seite, bis ich deine Feinde zur Fußbank für dich mache.“' (Ps 110:1) 45 Wenn David ihn also Herr nennt, wie kann er dann gleichzeitig sein Sohn sein?“ 46 Keiner konnte ihm darauf eine Antwort geben. Und von da an wagte auch niemand mehr, ihm eine Frage zu stellen.

La parabole des invités

1 Jésus leur parla de nouveau au moyen de paraboles. Il leur dit: (Lu 14:15) 2 Il en est du royaume des cieux comme d’un roi qui célèbre les noces de son fils. 3 Il envoie ses serviteurs convier les invités aux noces. Mais ceux-ci refusent de venir. 4 Alors il envoie d’autres serviteurs pour insister de sa part auprès des invités: « Portez-leur ce message: J’ai préparé mon banquet, j’ai fait tuer mes jeunes taureaux et mes plus belles bêtes, et tout est prêt. Venez donc aux noces. » 5 Mais les invités restent indifférents, et s’en vont, l’un à son champ, l’autre à ses affaires. 6 Les autres s’emparent des serviteurs, les maltraitent et les tuent. 7 Alors le roi se met en colère. Il envoie ses troupes exterminer ces assassins et mettre le feu à leur ville. 8 Ensuite, il dit à ses serviteurs: « Le repas de noces est prêt, mais les invités n’en étaient pas dignes. 9 Allez donc aux carrefours des chemins et invitez au festin tous ceux que vous trouverez. » 10 Alors les serviteurs s’en vont par les routes et rassemblent tous ceux qu’ils rencontrent, méchants et bons, de sorte que la salle des noces se remplit de monde. 11 Le roi entre pour voir l’assistance. Il aperçoit là un homme qui n’a pas d’habit de noces. 12 « Mon ami, lui demande-t-il, comment as-tu pu entrer ici sans être habillé comme il convient pour un mariage? » L’autre ne trouve rien à répondre. 13 Alors le roi dit aux serviteurs: « Prenez-le et jetez-le, pieds et poings liés, dans les ténèbres du dehors où il y a des pleurs et d’amers regrets. » 14 Car, beaucoup sont invités, mais les élus sont peu nombreux.

Controverse sur l’impôt dû à César

15 Alors les pharisiens s’éloignèrent et discutèrent entre eux pour trouver une question à poser à Jésus, afin de le prendre au piège par ses propres paroles. (Mr 12:13; Lu 20:20) 16 Ils lui envoyèrent donc quelques-uns de leurs disciples accompagnés de gens du parti d’Hérode^[1]. Ces émissaires lui dirent: Maître, nous savons que tu dis la vérité et que tu enseignes en toute vérité la voie à suivre selon Dieu. Tu ne te laisses influencer par personne, car tu ne regardes pas à la position sociale des gens. 17 Dis-nous donc ce que tu penses de ceci: A-t-on, oui ou non, le droit de payer des impôts à César? 18 Mais Jésus, connaissant leurs mauvaises intentions, leur répondit: Hypocrites! Pourquoi me tendez-vous un piège? 19 Montrez-moi une pièce qui sert à payer cet impôt! Ils lui présentèrent une pièce d’argent. 20 Alors il leur demanda: Cette effigie et cette inscription, de qui sont-elles? 21 – De César. Jésus leur dit alors: Rendez donc à César ce qui revient à César, et à Dieu ce qui revient à Dieu. 22 En entendant cette réponse, ils en restèrent tout déconcertés. Ils le laissèrent donc et se retirèrent.

Controverse sur la résurrection

23 Ce même jour, des sadducéens vinrent le trouver. Ils prétendent que les morts ne ressuscitent pas. Ils lui posèrent la question suivante: (Mr 12:18; Lu 20:27) 24 Maître, Moïse a donné cet ordre: Si quelqu’un meurt sans avoir d’enfant, son frère devra épouser sa veuve, pour donner une descendance au défunt^[2]. (De 25:5) 25 Or, il y avait parmi nous sept frères. L’aîné s’est marié, et il est mort sans avoir de descendant. Il a donc laissé sa veuve à son frère. 26 Il est arrivé la même chose au deuxième frère, puis au troisième, et ainsi de suite jusqu’au septième. 27 En fin de compte, la femme est décédée elle aussi. 28 A la résurrection, duquel des sept frères sera-t-elle la femme? Car ils l’ont tous eue pour épouse. 29 Jésus leur répondit: Vous êtes dans l’erreur, parce que vous ne connaissez pas les Ecritures, ni quelle est la puissance de Dieu. 30 En effet, une fois ressuscités, les hommes et les femmes ne se marieront plus; ils vivront comme les anges qui sont dans le ciel. 31 Quant à la résurrection des morts, n’avez-vous donc jamais lu ce que Dieu vous a déclaré: 32 Je suis le Dieu d’Abraham, le Dieu d’Isaac, le Dieu de Jacob^[3]? Dieu n’est pas le Dieu des morts, mais le Dieu des vivants. (Ex 3:6; Ex 3:15) 33 Les foules qui entendaient ses réponses étaient profondément impressionnées par son enseignement.

Le plus grand commandement

34 En apprenant que Jésus avait réduit au silence les sadducéens, les pharisiens se réunirent. (Mr 12:28) 35 L’un d’entre eux, un enseignant de la Loi, voulut lui tendre un piège. Il lui demanda: 36 Maître, quel est, dans la Loi, le commandement le plus grand? 37 Jésus lui répondit: Tu aimeras le Seigneur, ton Dieu, de tout ton cœur, de toute ton âme et de toute ta pensée^[4]. (De 6:5) 38 C’est là le commandement le plus grand et le plus important. 39 Et il y en a un second qui lui est semblable: Tu aimeras ton prochain comme toi-même^[5]. (Le 19:18) 40 Tout ce qu’enseignent la Loi et les prophètes est contenu dans ces deux commandements.

Controverse sur l’identité du Messie

41 Comme les pharisiens se trouvaient rassemblés là, Jésus les interrogea à son tour: (Mr 12:35; Lu 20:41) 42 Quelle est votre opinion au sujet du Messie? D’après vous, de qui descend-il? – De David, lui répondirent-ils. 43 – Alors, comment se fait-il que David, parlant sous l’inspiration de l’Esprit de Dieu, l’appelle Seigneur? En effet, il déclare: 44 Le Seigneur a dit à mon Seigneur: Viens siéger à ma droite^[6] jusqu’à ce que j’aie mis ╵tes ennemis ╵à terre sous tes pieds^[7]. (1Ki 2:19; Ps 45:10; Ps 110:1) 45 Si donc David l’appelle son Seigneur, comment est-il possible que le Messie soit son descendant? 46 Nul ne fut capable de lui donner un mot de réponse et, à partir de ce jour-là, personne n’osa plus lui poser de question.
