1 And Jesus being full of the Holy Ghost returned from Jordan, and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, 2 Being forty days tempted of the devil. And in those days he did eat nothing: and when they were ended, he afterward hungered. 3 And the devil said unto him, If thou be the Son of God, command this stone that it be made bread. 4 And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God. 5 And the devil, taking him up into an high mountain, shewed unto him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time. 6 And the devil said unto him, All this power will I give thee, and the glory of them: for that is delivered unto me; and to whomsoever I will I give it. 7 If thou therefore wilt worship me, all shall be thine. 8 And Jesus answered and said unto him, Get thee behind me, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve. 9 And he brought him to Jerusalem, and set him on a pinnacle of the temple, and said unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down from hence: 10 For it is written, He shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee: 11 And in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone. 12 And Jesus answering said unto him, It is said, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God. 13 And when the devil had ended all the temptation, he departed from him for a season. 14 And Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit into Galilee: and there went out a fame of him through all the region round about. 15 And he taught in their synagogues, being glorified of all. 16 And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and, as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and stood up for to read. 17 And there was delivered unto him the book of the prophet Esaias. And when he had opened the book, he found the place where it was written, 18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, 19 To preach the acceptable year of the Lord. 20 And he closed the book, and he gave it again to the minister, and sat down. And the eyes of all them that were in the synagogue were fastened on him. 21 And he began to say unto them, This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears. 22 And all bare him witness, and wondered at the gracious words which proceeded out of his mouth. And they said, Is not this Joseph's son? 23 And he said unto them, Ye will surely say unto me this proverb, Physician, heal thyself: whatsoever we have heard done in Capernaum, do also here in thy country. 24 And he said, Verily I say unto you, No prophet is accepted in his own country. 25 But I tell you of a truth, many widows were in Israel in the days of Elias, when the heaven was shut up three years and six months, when great famine was throughout all the land; 26 But unto none of them was Elias sent, save unto Sarepta, a city of Sidon, unto a woman that was a widow. 27 And many lepers were in Israel in the time of Eliseus the prophet; and none of them was cleansed, saving Naaman the Syrian. 28 And all they in the synagogue, when they heard these things, were filled with wrath, 29 And rose up, and thrust him out of the city, and led him unto the brow of the hill whereon their city was built, that they might cast him down headlong. 30 But he passing through the midst of them went his way, 31 And came down to Capernaum, a city of Galilee, and taught them on the sabbath days. 32 And they were astonished at his doctrine: for his word was with power. 33 And in the synagogue there was a man, which had a spirit of an unclean devil, and cried out with a loud voice, 34 Saying, Let us alone; what have we to do with thee, thou Jesus of Nazareth? art thou come to destroy us? I know thee who thou art; the Holy One of God. 35 And Jesus rebuked him, saying, Hold thy peace, and come out of him. And when the devil had thrown him in the midst, he came out of him, and hurt him not. 36 And they were all amazed, and spake among themselves, saying, What a word is this! for with authority and power he commandeth the unclean spirits, and they come out. 37 And the fame of him went out into every place of the country round about. 38 And he arose out of the synagogue, and entered into Simon's house. And Simon's wife's mother was taken with a great fever; and they besought him for her. 39 And he stood over her, and rebuked the fever; and it left her: and immediately she arose and ministered unto them. 40 Now when the sun was setting, all they that had any sick with divers diseases brought them unto him; and he laid his hands on every one of them, and healed them. 41 And devils also came out of many, crying out, and saying, Thou art Christ the Son of God. And he rebuking them suffered them not to speak: for they knew that he was Christ. 42 And when it was day, he departed and went into a desert place: and the people sought him, and came unto him, and stayed him, that he should not depart from them. 43 And he said unto them, I must preach the kingdom of God to other cities also: for therefore am I sent. 44 And he preached in the synagogues of Galilee.

Versuchung in der Wüste

1 Vom Heiligen Geist erfüllt, verließ Jesus den Jordan und ging in die Wüste. Der Geist hatte ihn dazu gedrängt. Vierzig Tage blieb er dort 2 und wurde vom Teufel versucht. Während der ganzen Zeit hatte er nichts gegessen, so dass er am Ende sehr hungrig war. 3 Da sagte der Teufel zu ihm: „Wenn du Gottes Sohn bist, dann befiehl diesem Stein hier, dass er zu Brot werde.“ 4 Aber Jesus antwortete: „Nein, in der Schrift steht: 'Der Mensch lebt nicht nur von Brot.'“ (De 8:3) 5 Der Teufel führte ihn auch auf einen hohen Berg, zeigte ihm in einem einzigen Augenblick alle Reiche der Welt 6 und sagte: „Diese ganze Macht und Herrlichkeit will ich dir geben, denn sie ist mir überlassen worden, und ich gebe sie, wem ich will. 7 Alles soll dir gehören, wenn du dich vor mir niederwirfst und mich anbetest.“ 8 Aber Jesus entgegnete: „Es steht geschrieben: 'Du sollst den Herrn, deinen Gott, anbeten und ihm allein dienen!'“ (De 6:13) 9 Der Teufel brachte Jesus sogar nach Jerusalem, stellte ihn auf den höchsten Vorsprung im Tempel und sagte: „Wenn du Gottes Sohn bist, dann stürz dich hier hinunter! 10 Es steht ja geschrieben: 'Er wird seine Engel aufbieten, um dich zu beschützen. 11 Auf den Händen werden sie dich tragen, damit du mit deinem Fuß nicht an einen Stein stößt.'“ (Ps 91:11) 12 Jesus gab ihm zur Antwort: „Es heißt aber auch: 'Du sollst den Herrn, deinen Gott, nicht herausfordern!'“ (De 6:16) 13 Als der Teufel sah, dass er mit keiner Versuchung zum Ziel kam, ließ er ihn für einige Zeit in Ruhe.

Ein Prophet gilt nichts im Heimatort

14 Jesus kehrte in der Kraft, die ihm der Geist Gottes verlieh, nach Galiläa zurück. Bald sprach man in der ganzen Gegend von ihm. 15 Er lehrte in den Synagogen und wurde von allen hoch geachtet. 16 So kam er auch nach Nazaret, wo er aufgewachsen war. Wie gewöhnlich ging er am Sabbat in die Synagoge. Als er zum Vorlesen aufstand, 17 reichte man ihm die Schriftrolle des Propheten Jesaja. Er rollte sie auf und fand die Stelle, wo es heißt: 18 „Der Geist des Herrn ruht auf mir, weil er mich gesalbt hat. Er hat mich gesandt, Armen die gute Botschaft zu bringen und Gefangenen die Freiheit. Ich soll Blinden sagen, dass sie sehen werden und Zerbrochenen, dass sie frei werden von Schuld. 19 Ich soll verkünden ein Gnadenjahr des Herrn.“ (Le 25:10; Isa 61:1) 20 Er rollte das Buch zusammen, gab es dem Synagogendiener zurück und setzte sich. Alle in der Synagoge sahen ihn erwartungsvoll an. 21 „Heute ist dieses Schriftwort, das ihr eben gehört habt, in Erfüllung gegangen“, fing er an. 22 Seine Zuhörer waren beeindruckt und wunderten sich zugleich über die Worte, die ihm geschenkt wurden. „Ist das nicht der Sohn von Josef?“, fragten sie. 23 Da sagte er zu ihnen: „Sicher werdet ihr mir jetzt mit dem Sprichwort kommen: 'Arzt, hilf dir selbst!' und denken: 'Du musst auch hier bei dir, in deiner Vaterstadt, das tun, was wir von Kafarnaum^[1] gehört haben.' 24 Aber ihr wisst doch, dass ein Prophet in seinem Heimatort nichts gilt. 25 Und es ist auch wahr, dass es zur Zeit des Propheten Elija viele Witwen in Israel gab, damals, als es drei Jahre und sechs Monate lang nicht regnete und im ganzen Land eine große Hungersnot herrschte. 26 Trotzdem wurde Elija zu keiner von ihnen geschickt, sondern zu einer Witwe in Sarepta,^[2] im Gebiet von Sidon. 27 Und viele Aussätzige gab es zur Zeit des Propheten Elischa in Israel, aber keiner von ihnen wurde geheilt, nur der Syrer Naaman.“ 28 Als sie das hörten, gerieten alle in der Synagoge in Wut. 29 Sie sprangen auf, zerrten Jesus zur Stadt hinaus und führten ihn bis zum Abhang des Berges, auf dem ihre Stadt erbaut war; dort wollten sie ihn hinabstürzen. 30 Aber Jesus schritt mitten durch die Menge hindurch und zog weg.

Erstaunen in Kafarnaum

31 Er ging dann nach Kafarnaum hinab, das ist eine Stadt in Galiläa, und sprach dort am Sabbat zu den Menschen. 32 Seine Lehre wühlte sie auf, denn er redete mit Vollmacht. 33 Es gab auch einen Mann in der Synagoge, der von einem bösen Geist, einem Dämon, besessen war. Der fing plötzlich an, laut zu schreien: 34 „Was willst du von uns, Jesus von Nazaret? Bist du hergekommen, um uns zu vernichten? Ich weiß genau, wer du bist: der Heilige Gottes.“ 35 „Schweig!“, herrschte Jesus ihn an. „Verlass ihn sofort!“ Da warf der Dämon den Mann mitten unter ihnen zu Boden, verließ ihn aber, ohne ihm weiter zu schaden. 36 Die Leute erschraken sehr und sagten zueinander: „Was für ein Wort! Welche Vollmacht und Kraft! Er befiehlt den bösen Geistern, und sie fahren tatsächlich aus.“ 37 Bald sprach man in der ganzen Gegend von ihm. 38 Nachdem er die Synagoge verlassen hatte, ging Jesus in das Haus Simons. Dessen Schwiegermutter war von einem heftigen Fieber befallen, und man bat ihn, ihr zu helfen. 39 Er trat an ihr Bett und bedrohte das Fieber. Es verschwand sofort. Gleich stand sie auf und bediente ihre Gäste. 40 Als die Sonne unterging, brachten die Leute ihre Kranken zu Jesus – Menschen mit den verschiedensten Leiden. Jedem von ihnen legte er die Hände auf und heilte sie. 41 Von vielen fuhren auch Dämonen aus und schrien: „Du bist der Sohn Gottes!“ Aber Jesus herrschte sie an und verbot ihnen, weiterzureden, weil sie wussten, dass er der Messias war. 42 Bei Tagesanbruch ging er aus dem Haus fort an eine einsame Stelle. Doch die Leute suchten ihn, bis sie ihn gefunden hatten. Sie wollten ihn festhalten und verhindern, dass er von ihnen wegging. 43 Aber er sagte zu ihnen: „Ich muss auch den anderen Städten die Freudenbotschaft vom Reich Gottes bringen, denn dazu hat Gott mich gesandt.“ 44 So predigte er in allen Synagogen des Landes.

La tentation de Jésus

1 Jésus, rempli de l’Esprit Saint, revint du Jourdain et l’Esprit le conduisit dans le désert (Mt 4:1; Mr 1:12) 2 où il fut tenté par le diable durant quarante jours. Il ne mangea rien durant ces jours-là, et, quand ils furent passés, il eut faim. 3 Alors le diable lui dit: Si tu es le Fils de Dieu, ordonne donc à cette pierre de se changer en pain. 4 Jésus lui répondit: Il est écrit: L’homme ne vivra pas seulement de pain^[1]. (De 8:3) 5 Le diable l’entraîna sur une hauteur, 6 lui montra en un instant tous les royaumes de la terre et lui dit: Je te donnerai la domination universelle ainsi que les richesses et la gloire de ces royaumes. Car tout cela a été remis entre mes mains et je le donne à qui je veux. 7 Si donc tu te prosternes devant moi, tout cela sera à toi. 8 Jésus lui répondit: Il est écrit: Tu adoreras le Seigneur, ton Dieu, et c’est à lui seul que tu rendras un culte^[2]. (De 6:13) 9 Le diable le conduisit ensuite à Jérusalem, le plaça tout en haut du Temple et lui dit: Si tu es le Fils de Dieu, jette-toi d’ici en bas, car il est écrit: 10 Il donnera des ordres ╵à ses anges à ton sujet, pour qu’ils veillent sur toi, 11 et encore: Ils te porteront sur leurs mains pour que ton pied ne heurte pas de pierre^[3]. (Ps 91:11) 12 Jésus répondit: Il est aussi écrit: Tu ne forceras pas la main au Seigneur, ton Dieu^[4]. (De 6:16) 13 Lorsque le diable eut achevé de le soumettre à toutes sortes de tentations, il s’éloigna de lui jusqu’au temps fixé^[5].

Jésus, le Serviteur choisi par Dieu

14 Jésus, rempli de la puissance de l’Esprit, retourna en Galilée. Sa réputation se répandit dans toute la région. (Mt 4:12; Mr 1:14) 15 Il enseignait dans les synagogues et tous faisaient son éloge. (Mt 13:53; Mr 6:1) 16 Il se rendit aussi à Nazareth, où il avait été élevé, et il entra dans la synagogue le jour du sabbat, comme il en avait l’habitude. Il se leva pour faire la lecture biblique^[6], 17 et on lui présenta le rouleau du prophète Esaïe. En déroulant le parchemin, il trouva le passage où il est écrit: 18 L’Esprit du Seigneur est sur moi car il m’a oint pour annoncer une bonne nouvelle aux pauvres. Il m’a envoyé ╵pour annoncer aux captifs la délivrance, aux aveugles le recouvrement de la vue, pour apporter la liberté aux opprimés 19 et proclamer une année de faveur accordée par le Seigneur^[7]. (Isa 61:1) 20 Il roula le livre, le rendit au servant et s’assit. Dans la synagogue, tous les yeux étaient braqués sur lui. 21 – Aujourd’hui même, commença-t-il, pour vous qui l’entendez, cette prophétie de l’Ecriture est devenue réalité. 22 Aucun de ses auditeurs ne restait indifférent: les paroles de grâce qu’il prononçait les étonnaient beaucoup. Aussi disaient-ils: N’est-il pas le fils de Joseph? 23 Alors il leur dit: Vous ne manquerez pas de m’appliquer ce dicton: « Médecin, guéris-toi toi-même » et vous me direz: « On nous a parlé de ce que tu as accompli à Capernaüm. Fais-en donc autant ici, dans ta propre ville! » 24 Et il ajouta: Vraiment, je vous l’assure: aucun prophète n’est bien accueilli dans sa patrie. 25 Voici la vérité, je vous le déclare: il y avait beaucoup de veuves en Israël à l’époque d’Elie, quand, pendant trois ans et demi, il n’y a pas eu de pluie et qu’une grande famine a sévi dans tout le pays. 26 Or, Elie n’a été envoyé vers aucune d’entre elles, mais vers une veuve qui vivait à Sarepta, dans le pays de Sidon^[8]. (1Ki 17:9) 27 Il y avait aussi beaucoup de lépreux en Israël au temps du prophète Elisée. Et pourtant, aucun d’eux n’a été guéri. C’est le Syrien Naaman qui l’a été^[9]. (2Ki 5:1) 28 En entendant ces paroles, tous ceux qui étaient dans la synagogue se mirent en colère. 29 Ils se levèrent, firent sortir Jésus de la ville, et le menèrent jusqu’au sommet de la montagne sur laquelle elle était bâtie, afin de le précipiter dans le vide. 30 Mais il passa au milieu d’eux et s’en alla.

Exorcisme et guérisons à Capernaüm

31 Il se rendit à Capernaüm, une autre ville de la Galilée. Il y enseignait les jours de sabbat. (Mr 1:21) 32 Ses auditeurs étaient profondément impressionnés par son enseignement, car il parlait avec autorité. 33 Dans la synagogue se trouvait un homme sous l’emprise d’un esprit démoniaque et impur. Il se mit à crier d’une voix puissante: 34 Ah! Que nous veux-tu, Jésus de Nazareth? Es-tu venu pour nous détruire^[10]? Je sais qui tu es! Tu es le Saint envoyé par Dieu! 35 Mais, d’un ton sévère, Jésus lui ordonna: Tais-toi, et sors de cet homme! Le démon jeta l’homme par terre, au milieu des assistants, et sortit de lui, sans lui faire aucun mal. 36 Tous furent saisis de stupeur; ils se disaient tous, les uns aux autres: Quelle est cette parole? Il donne des ordres aux esprits mauvais, avec autorité et puissance, et ils sortent! 37 Et la renommée de Jésus se répandait dans toutes les localités environnantes. (Mt 8:14; Mr 1:29) 38 En sortant de la synagogue, il se rendit à la maison de Simon. Or, la belle-mère de Simon souffrait d’une forte fièvre, et l’on demanda à Jésus de faire quelque chose pour elle. 39 Il se pencha sur elle, donna un ordre à la fièvre, et la fièvre la quitta. Alors elle se leva immédiatement et se mit à les servir. 40 Au coucher du soleil, tous ceux qui avaient chez eux des malades atteints des maux les plus divers les amenèrent à Jésus^[11]. Il posa ses mains sur chacun d’eux et les guérit. 41 Des démons sortaient aussi de beaucoup d’entre eux en criant: Tu es le Fils de Dieu! Mais Jésus les reprenait sévèrement pour les faire taire, car ils savaient qu’il était le Messie^[12]. (Mr 1:35) 42 Dès qu’il fit jour, Jésus sortit de la maison et se rendit dans un lieu désert. Les foules se mirent à sa recherche et, après l’avoir rejoint, voulurent le retenir pour qu’il ne les quitte pas. 43 Mais il leur dit: Je dois aussi annoncer la Bonne Nouvelle du royaume de Dieu aux autres villes, car c’est pour cela que Dieu m’a envoyé. 44 Et il prêchait dans les synagogues de la Judée^[13].
