1 Then sang Moses and the children of Israel this song unto the LORD, and spake, saying, I will sing unto the LORD, for he hath triumphed gloriously: the horse and his rider hath he thrown into the sea. 2 The LORD is my strength and song, and he is become my salvation: he is my God, and I will prepare him an habitation; my father' God, and I will exalt him. 3 The LORD is a man of war: the LORD is his name. 4 Pharaoh' chariots and his host hath he cast into the sea: his chosen captains also are drowned in the Red sea. 5 The depths have covered them: they sank into the bottom as a stone. 6 Thy right hand, O LORD, is become glorious in power: thy right hand, O LORD, hath dashed in pieces the enemy. 7 And in the greatness of thine excellency thou hast overthrown them that rose up against thee: thou sentest forth thy wrath, which consumed them as stubble. 8 And with the blast of thy nostrils the waters were gathered together, the floods stood upright as an heap, and the depths were congealed in the heart of the sea. 9 The enemy said, I will pursue, I will overtake, I will divide the spoil; my lust shall be satisfied upon them; I will draw my sword, my hand shall destroy them. 10 Thou didst blow with thy wind, the sea covered them: they sank as lead in the mighty waters. 11 Who is like unto thee, O LORD, among the gods? who is like thee, glorious in holiness, fearful in praises, doing wonders? 12 Thou stretchedst out thy right hand, the earth swallowed them. 13 Thou in thy mercy hast led forth the people which thou hast redeemed: thou hast guided them in thy strength unto thy holy habitation. 14 The people shall hear, and be afraid: sorrow shall take hold on the inhabitants of Palestina. 15 Then the dukes of Edom shall be amazed; the mighty men of Moab, trembling shall take hold upon them; all the inhabitants of Canaan shall melt away. 16 Fear and dread shall fall upon them; by the greatness of thine arm they shall be as still as a stone; till thy people pass over, O LORD, till the people pass over, which thou hast purchased. 17 Thou shalt bring them in, and plant them in the mountain of thine inheritance, in the place, O LORD, which thou hast made for thee to dwell in, in the Sanctuary, O Lord, which thy hands have established. 18 The LORD shall reign for ever and ever. 19 For the horse of Pharaoh went in with his chariots and with his horsemen into the sea, and the LORD brought again the waters of the sea upon them; but the children of Israel went on dry land in the midst of the sea. 20 And Miriam the prophetess, the sister of Aaron, took a timbrel in her hand; and all the women went out after her with timbrels and with dances. 21 And Miriam answered them, Sing ye to the LORD, for he hath triumphed gloriously; the horse and his rider hath he thrown into the sea. 22 So Moses brought Israel from the Red sea, and they went out into the wilderness of Shur; and they went three days in the wilderness, and found no water. 23 And when they came to Marah, they could not drink of the waters of Marah, for they were bitter: therefore the name of it was called Marah. 24 And the people murmured against Moses, saying, What shall we drink? 25 And he cried unto the LORD; and the LORD shewed him a tree, which when he had cast into the waters, the waters were made sweet: there he made for them a statute and an ordinance, and there he proved them, 26 And said, If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of the LORD thy God, and wilt do that which is right in his sight, and wilt give ear to his commandments, and keep all his statutes, I will put none of these diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egyptians: for I am the LORD that healeth thee. 27 And they came to Elim, where were twelve wells of water, and threescore and ten palm trees: and they encamped there by the waters.

Cântarea de laudă a lui Moise și a lui Miriam

1 Atunci Moise și fiii lui Israel au cântat această cântare DOMNULUI. Ei au zis: „Voi cânta DOMNULUI, căci S‑a înălțat cu multă slavă. I‑a năpustit în mare pe cal și pe călăreț. 2 DOMNUL^[1] este puterea și cântarea mea, El a devenit izbăvirea mea; Acesta este Dumnezeul meu și Îl voi lăuda, este Dumnezeul tatălui meu și Îl voi înălța. (Ex 17:16) 3 DOMNUL este un războinic; Numele Lui este DOMNUL. 4 El a aruncat în mare carele lui Faraon și armata lui. Căpeteniile lui alese s‑au înecat în Marea Roșie^[2]. (Ex 10:19) 5 Ape adânci i‑au acoperit; au coborât în adâncuri ca o piatră. 6 Dreapta Ta, DOAMNE, este măreață în putere, dreapta Ta, DOAMNE, l‑a zdrobit pe dușman. 7 Cu măreția maiestății Tale i‑ai doborât pe cei ce s‑au ridicat împotriva Ta, Ți‑ai dezlănțuit mânia care i‑a mistuit ca pe o miriște. 8 La suflarea nărilor Tale apele s‑au adunat, puhoaiele de ape s‑au ridicat ca un zid, adâncurile s‑au închegat în inima mării. 9 Dușmanul își zicea: «Îi voi urmări, îi voi ajunge. Voi împărți prada; îmi voi împlini dorința cu privire la ei. Îmi voi scoate sabia și mâna mea va pune stăpânire pe ei.» 10 Însă când Tu ai suflat cu suflarea Ta, marea i‑a acoperit. S‑au afundat ca plumbul în apele mărețe. 11 Cine este ca Tine dintre dumnezei, DOAMNE? Cine este ca Tine, glorios în sfințenie, de temut în cântări de laudă și înfăptuitor de minuni? 12 Ți‑ai întins mâna dreaptă, și pământul i‑a înghițit. 13 Prin îndurarea^[3] Ta ai condus poporul pe care l‑ai răscumpărat; prin puterea Ta l‑ai călăuzit spre Locuința Ta cea sfântă^[4]. (Jer 7:12) 14 Popoarele vor auzi și vor tremura; îi va apuca groaza pe locuitorii Filistiei. 15 Atunci căpeteniile Edomului se vor îngrozi; un cutremur îi va cuprinde pe conducătorii Moabului. Toți locuitorii Canaanului se vor topi de spaimă. 16 Spaima și groaza vor cădea peste ei. Din cauza măreției brațului Tău, vor amuți ca o piatră, până va trece poporul Tău, DOAMNE, până va trece poporul pe care l‑ai câștigat.^[5] 17 Tu îi vei aduce și‑i vei sădi pe muntele moștenirii Tale, Locul șederii Tale pe care Tu, DOAMNE, l‑ai făcut, Sfântul Lăcaș, Stăpâne, pe care mâinile Tale l‑au întemeiat. 18 DOMNUL va domni în veci de veci!“ 19 Când caii, carele și călăreții^[6] lui Faraon au intrat în mare, DOMNUL a adus înapoi apele mării peste ei. Însă fiii lui Israel au mers pe pământ uscat prin mijlocul mării. 20 Apoi Miriam, profetesa, sora lui Aaron, a luat o tamburină în mână și toate femeile au ieșit după ea având tamburine și dansând. 21 Miriam le cânta: „Cântați DOMNULUI, căci S‑a înălțat cu multă slavă. I‑a năpustit în mare pe cal și pe călăreț.“

Apele de la Mara și Elim

22 După aceea, Moise l‑a condus pe Israel în călătorie de la Marea Roșie și au ieșit înspre pustia Șur. Ei au mers trei zile prin pustie, fără să găsească apă. 23 Au ajuns la Mara, dar n‑au putut să bea apă din Mara pentru că era amară. De aceea i s‑a pus numele Mara^[7]. 24 Poporul a cârtit împotriva lui Moise, zicând: „Ce vom bea?“ 25 El a strigat către DOMNUL, și DOMNUL i‑a arătat un copac. Moise a aruncat copacul în apă, și apa s‑a făcut dulce. Acolo i‑a dat DOMNUL hotărâri și porunci și acolo l‑a pus la încercare^[8]. 26 El a zis: „Dacă vei asculta cu atenție glasul DOMNULUI, Dumnezeul tău, dacă vei face ce este drept în ochii Lui, dacă vei lua aminte la poruncile Lui și vei păzi toate hotărârile Lui, nu voi aduce peste tine niciuna din bolile pe care le‑am adus peste egipteni. Căci Eu sunt DOMNUL, Care te vindecă.“ 27 Au ajuns la Elim, unde se găseau douăsprezece izvoare de apă și șaptezeci de palmieri. Ei și‑au așezat tabăra acolo, lângă ape.
