1A Psalm of David, when he was in the wilderness of Judah. O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is;2To see thy power and thy glory, so as I have seen thee in the sanctuary.3Because thy lovingkindness is better than life, my lips shall praise thee.4Thus will I bless thee while I live: I will lift up my hands in thy name.5My soul shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness; and my mouth shall praise thee with joyful lips:6When I remember thee upon my bed, and meditate on thee in the night watches.7Because thou hast been my help, therefore in the shadow of thy wings will I rejoice.8My soul followeth hard after thee: thy right hand upholdeth me.9But those that seek my soul, to destroy it , shall go into the lower parts of the earth.10They shall fall by the sword: they shall be a portion for foxes.11But the king shall rejoice in God; every one that sweareth by him shall glory: but the mouth of them that speak lies shall be stopped.
A psalm of David when he was in the Desert of Judah.
1God, you are my God. I seek you with all my heart. With all my strength I thirst for you in this dry desert where there isn’t any water.2I have seen you in the sacred tent. There I have seen your power and your glory.3Your love is better than life. So I will bring glory to you with my lips.4I will praise you as long as I live. I will call on your name when I lift up my hands in prayer.5I will be as satisfied as if I had eaten the best food there is. I will sing praise to you with my mouth.6As I lie on my bed I remember you. I think of you all night long.7Because you have helped me, I sing in the shadow of your wings.8I hold on to you tightly. Your powerful right hand takes good care of me.9Those who want to kill me will be destroyed. They will go down into the grave.10They will be killed by swords. They will become food for wild dogs.11But the king will be filled with joy because of what God has done. All those who make promises in God’s name will be able to boast. But the mouths of liars will be shut.
