1 Therefore thou art inexcusable, O man, whosoever thou art that judgest: for wherein thou judgest another, thou condemnest thyself; for thou that judgest doest the same things. 2 But we are sure that the judgment of God is according to truth against them which commit such things. 3 And thinkest thou this, O man, that judgest them which do such things, and doest the same, that thou shalt escape the judgment of God? 4 Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance? 5 But after thy hardness and impenitent heart treasurest up unto thyself wrath against the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God; 6 Who will render to every man according to his deeds: 7 To them who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honour and immortality, eternal life: 8 But unto them that are contentious, and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, indignation and wrath, 9 Tribulation and anguish, upon every soul of man that doeth evil, of the Jew first, and also of the Gentile; 10 But glory, honour, and peace, to every man that worketh good, to the Jew first, and also to the Gentile: 11 For there is no respect of persons with God. 12 For as many as have sinned without law shall also perish without law: and as many as have sinned in the law shall be judged by the law; 13 (For not the hearers of the law are just before God, but the doers of the law shall be justified. 14 For when the Gentiles, which have not the law, do by nature the things contained in the law, these, having not the law, are a law unto themselves: 15 Which shew the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and their thoughts the mean while accusing or else excusing one another;) 16 In the day when God shall judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ according to my gospel. 17 Behold, thou art called a Jew, and restest in the law, and makest thy boast of God, 18 And knowest his will, and approvest the things that are more excellent, being instructed out of the law; 19 And art confident that thou thyself art a guide of the blind, a light of them which are in darkness, 20 An instructor of the foolish, a teacher of babes, which hast the form of knowledge and of the truth in the law. 21 Thou therefore which teachest another, teachest thou not thyself? thou that preachest a man should not steal, dost thou steal? 22 Thou that sayest a man should not commit adultery, dost thou commit adultery? thou that abhorrest idols, dost thou commit sacrilege? 23 Thou that makest thy boast of the law, through breaking the law dishonourest thou God? 24 For the name of God is blasphemed among the Gentiles through you, as it is written. 25 For circumcision verily profiteth, if thou keep the law: but if thou be a breaker of the law, thy circumcision is made uncircumcision. 26 Therefore if the uncircumcision keep the righteousness of the law, shall not his uncircumcision be counted for circumcision? 27 And shall not uncircumcision which is by nature, if it fulfil the law, judge thee, who by the letter and circumcision dost transgress the law? 28 For he is not a Jew, which is one outwardly; neither is that circumcision, which is outward in the flesh: 29 But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of God.

Das Gericht über alle Menschen

1 Darum, o Mensch, kannst du dich nicht entschuldigen, wer du auch bist, der du richtest. Denn worin du den andern richtest, verdammst du dich selbst, weil du ebendasselbe tust, was du richtest. (Mt 7:2; Joh 8:7; Jas 4:12) 2 Wir wissen aber, dass Gottes Urteil zu Recht über die ergeht, die solches tun. 3 Denkst du aber, o Mensch, der du die richtest, die solches tun, und tust auch dasselbe, dass du dem Urteil Gottes entrinnen wirst? 4 Oder verachtest du den Reichtum seiner Güte, Geduld und Langmut? Weißt du nicht, dass dich Gottes Güte zur Buße leitet? (2Pe 3:9; 2Pe 3:15) 5 Du aber, mit deinem verstockten und unbußfertigen Herzen, häufst dir selbst Zorn an für den Tag des Zorns und der Offenbarung des gerechten Gerichtes Gottes, 6 der einem jeden geben wird nach seinen Werken: (Ps 62:13; Pr 24:12; Jer 32:19; Mt 16:27; 2Co 5:10)

7 ewiges Leben denen, die in aller Geduld mit guten Werken trachten nach Herrlichkeit, Ehre und unvergänglichem Leben; 8 Zorn und Grimm aber denen, die streitsüchtig sind und der Wahrheit nicht gehorchen, gehorchen aber der Ungerechtigkeit; (2Th 1:8) 9 Trübsal und Angst über alle Seelen der Menschen, die das Böse tun, zuerst der Juden und auch der Griechen; 10 Herrlichkeit aber und Ehre und Frieden allen denen, die das Gute tun, zuerst den Juden und ebenso den Griechen. 12 Alle, die ohne Gesetz gesündigt haben, werden auch ohne Gesetz verloren gehen; und alle, die unter dem Gesetz gesündigt haben, werden durchs Gesetz verurteilt werden. 13 Denn vor Gott sind nicht gerecht, die das Gesetz hören, sondern die das Gesetz tun, werden gerecht sein^[1]. (De 6:25; Mt 7:21; Jas 1:22) 14 Denn wenn Heiden, die das Gesetz nicht haben, doch von Natur aus tun, was das Gesetz fordert, so sind sie, obwohl sie das Gesetz nicht haben, sich selbst Gesetz. (Ac 10:35) 15 Sie beweisen damit, dass des Gesetzes Werk in ihr Herz geschrieben ist; ihr Gewissen bezeugt es ihnen, dazu auch die Gedanken, die einander anklagen oder auch entschuldigen, (Ro 1:32) 16 an dem Tag, an dem Gott das Verborgene der Menschen durch Christus Jesus richtet, wie es mein Evangelium bezeugt. Fragen an die Juden

17 Wenn du dich aber Jude nennst und verlässt dich aufs Gesetz und rühmst dich Gottes (Jer 9:22; 1Co 1:31) 18 und kennst seinen Willen und prüfst, weil du aus dem Gesetz unterrichtet bist, was das Beste sei, 19 und maßt dir an, ein Leiter der Blinden zu sein, ein Licht derer, die in Finsternis sind, (Mt 15:14) 20 ein Erzieher der Unverständigen, ein Lehrer der Unmündigen, der im Gesetz die Gestalt der Erkenntnis und Wahrheit hat – 21 du lehrst nun andere und lehrst dich selber nicht? Du predigst, man solle nicht stehlen, und du stiehlst? (Mt 23:3) 22 Du sprichst, man solle nicht ehebrechen, und du brichst die Ehe? Du verabscheust die Götzen und beraubst Tempel? 23 Du rühmst dich des Gesetzes und entehrst Gott durch Übertretung des Gesetzes? 24 Denn »euretwegen wird Gottes Name gelästert unter den Völkern«, wie geschrieben steht. 25 Die Beschneidung nützt etwas, wenn du das Gesetz hältst; hältst du aber das Gesetz nicht, so bist du aus einem Beschnittenen schon ein Unbeschnittener geworden. (1Co 7:19; Ga 5:3) 26 Wenn nun der Unbeschnittene hält, was nach dem Gesetz recht ist, meinst du nicht, dass dann der Unbeschnittene vor Gott als Beschnittener gilt? (Le 18:5; De 30:16; Ga 5:6) 27 Und so wird der, der von Natur aus unbeschnitten ist und das Gesetz erfüllt, dir ein Richter sein, der du unter dem Buchstaben stehst und beschnitten bist und das Gesetz übertrittst. 28 Denn nicht der ist ein Jude, der es äußerlich ist, auch ist nicht das die Beschneidung, die äußerlich am Fleisch geschieht; (Jer 4:4) 29 sondern der ist ein Jude, der es inwendig verborgen ist, und die Beschneidung des Herzens ist eine Beschneidung, die im Geist und nicht im Buchstaben geschieht. Dessen Lob kommt nicht von Menschen, sondern von Gott. (De 30:6; Php 3:3; Col 2:11)
