1 And there was a famine in the land, beside the first famine that was in the days of Abraham. And Isaac went unto Abimelech king of the Philistines unto Gerar. 2 And the LORD appeared unto him, and said, Go not down into Egypt; dwell in the land which I shall tell thee of: 3 Sojourn in this land, and I will be with thee, and will bless thee; for unto thee, and unto thy seed, I will give all these countries, and I will perform the oath which I sware unto Abraham thy father; 4 And I will make thy seed to multiply as the stars of heaven, and will give unto thy seed all these countries; and in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; 5 Because that Abraham obeyed my voice, and kept my charge, my commandments, my statutes, and my laws. 6 And Isaac dwelt in Gerar: 7 And the men of the place asked him of his wife; and he said, She is my sister: for he feared to say, She is my wife; lest, said he , the men of the place should kill me for Rebekah; because she was fair to look upon. 8 And it came to pass, when he had been there a long time, that Abimelech king of the Philistines looked out at a window, and saw, and, behold, Isaac was sporting with Rebekah his wife. 9 And Abimelech called Isaac, and said, Behold, of a surety she is thy wife: and how saidst thou, She is my sister? And Isaac said unto him, Because I said, Lest I die for her. 10 And Abimelech said, What is this thou hast done unto us? one of the people might lightly have lien with thy wife, and thou shouldest have brought guiltiness upon us. 11 And Abimelech charged all his people, saying, He that toucheth this man or his wife shall surely be put to death. 12 Then Isaac sowed in that land, and received in the same year an hundredfold: and the LORD blessed him. 13 And the man waxed great, and went forward, and grew until he became very great: 14 For he had possession of flocks, and possession of herds, and great store of servants: and the Philistines envied him. 15 For all the wells which his father' servants had digged in the days of Abraham his father, the Philistines had stopped them, and filled them with earth. 16 And Abimelech said unto Isaac, Go from us; for thou art much mightier than we. 17 And Isaac departed thence, and pitched his tent in the valley of Gerar, and dwelt there. 18 And Isaac digged again the wells of water, which they had digged in the days of Abraham his father; for the Philistines had stopped them after the death of Abraham: and he called their names after the names by which his father had called them. 19 And Isaac' servants digged in the valley, and found there a well of springing water. 20 And the herdmen of Gerar did strive with Isaac' herdmen, saying, The water is ours: and he called the name of the well Esek; because they strove with him. 21 And they digged another well, and strove for that also: and he called the name of it Sitnah. 22 And he removed from thence, and digged another well; and for that they strove not: and he called the name of it Rehoboth; and he said, For now the LORD hath made room for us, and we shall be fruitful in the land. 23 And he went up from thence to Beersheba. 24 And the LORD appeared unto him the same night, and said, I am the God of Abraham thy father: fear not, for I am with thee, and will bless thee, and multiply thy seed for my servant Abraham' sake. 25 And he builded an altar there, and called upon the name of the LORD, and pitched his tent there: and there Isaac' servants digged a well. 26 Then Abimelech went to him from Gerar, and Ahuzzath one of his friends, and Phichol the chief captain of his army. 27 And Isaac said unto them, Wherefore come ye to me, seeing ye hate me, and have sent me away from you? 28 And they said, We saw certainly that the LORD was with thee: and we said, Let there be now an oath betwixt us, even betwixt us and thee, and let us make a covenant with thee; 29 That thou wilt do us no hurt, as we have not touched thee, and as we have done unto thee nothing but good, and have sent thee away in peace: thou art now the blessed of the LORD. 30 And he made them a feast, and they did eat and drink. 31 And they rose up betimes in the morning, and sware one to another: and Isaac sent them away, and they departed from him in peace. 32 And it came to pass the same day, that Isaac' servants came, and told him concerning the well which they had digged, and said unto him, We have found water. 33 And he called it Shebah: therefore the name of the city is Beersheba unto this day. 34 And Esau was forty years old when he took to wife Judith the daughter of Beeri the Hittite, and Bashemath the daughter of Elon the Hittite: 35 Which were a grief of mind unto Isaac and to Rebekah.

Erneute Verheißung. Isaak und Rebekka in Gerar

1 Es kam aber eine Hungersnot ins Land nach der früheren, die zu Abrahams Zeiten war. Und Isaak zog zu Abimelech, dem König der Philister, nach Gerar. (Ge 12:10; Ge 20:1) 2 Da erschien ihm der HERR und sprach: Zieh nicht hinab nach Ägypten, sondern bleibe in dem Lande, das ich dir sage. 3 Bleibe als Fremdling in diesem Lande, und ich will mit dir sein und dich segnen; denn dir und deinen Nachkommen will ich alle diese Länder geben und will meinen Eid wahr machen, den ich deinem Vater Abraham geschworen habe, (Ge 17:19; Ge 22:16) 4 und will deine Nachkommen mehren wie die Sterne am Himmel und will deinen Nachkommen alle diese Länder geben. Und durch deine Nachkommen sollen alle Völker auf Erden gesegnet werden, (Ge 12:3; Ge 15:5) 5 weil Abraham meiner Stimme gehorsam gewesen ist und gehalten hat meine Rechte, meine Gebote, meine Satzungen und meine Weisungen. 6 So wohnte Isaak zu Gerar. 7 Und wenn die Leute am Ort fragten nach seiner Frau, so sprach er: Sie ist meine Schwester; denn er fürchtete sich zu sagen: Sie ist meine Frau. Er dachte nämlich: Sie könnten mich töten um Rebekkas willen, denn sie ist schön von Gestalt. 8 Als er nun eine Zeit lang da war, sah Abimelech, der König der Philister, durchs Fenster und wurde gewahr, dass Isaak scherzte mit Rebekka, seiner Frau. 9 Da rief Abimelech den Isaak und sprach: Siehe, sie ist ja deine Frau. Wie hast du denn gesagt: Sie ist meine Schwester? Isaak antwortete ihm: Ich dachte, ich würde vielleicht sterben müssen um ihretwillen. 10 Abimelech sprach: Warum hast du uns das angetan? Es wäre leicht geschehen, dass jemand vom Volk sich zu deiner Frau gelegt hätte, und du hättest so eine Schuld auf uns gebracht. 11 Da gebot Abimelech allem Volk und sprach: Wer diesen Mann oder seine Frau antastet, der soll des Todes sterben.

Isaaks Streit mit den Philistern. Sein Bund mit Abimelech

12 Und Isaak säte in dem Lande und erntete in jenem Jahre hundertfältig; denn der HERR segnete ihn. (Ge 12:2) 13 Und er wurde ein reicher Mann und wurde immer reicher, bis er sehr reich war, 14 sodass er viel Gut hatte an kleinem und großem Vieh und ein großes Gesinde. Darum beneideten ihn die Philister. 15 Nun hatten sie aber alle Brunnen verstopft, die seines Vaters Knechte gegraben hatten zur Zeit Abrahams, seines Vaters, und hatten sie mit Erde gefüllt. (Ge 21:22) 16 Und Abimelech sprach zu ihm: Zieh von uns, denn du bist uns zu mächtig geworden. 17 Da zog Isaak von dannen und schlug seine Zelte auf im Tal von Gerar und wohnte da 18 und ließ die Wasserbrunnen wieder aufgraben, die sie zur Zeit Abrahams, seines Vaters, gegraben hatten und die die Philister verstopft hatten nach Abrahams Tod, und nannte sie mit denselben Namen, mit denen sein Vater sie genannt hatte. 19 Auch gruben Isaaks Knechte im Tal und fanden dort eine Quelle lebendigen Wassers. 20 Aber die Hirten von Gerar zankten mit den Hirten Isaaks und sprachen: Das Wasser ist unser. Da nannte er den Brunnen »Zank«, weil sie mit ihm da gezankt hatten. 21 Da gruben sie einen andern Brunnen. Darüber stritten sie auch, darum nannte er ihn »Streit«. 22 Da zog er weiter und grub noch einen andern Brunnen. Darüber zankten sie sich nicht, darum nannte er ihn »Weiter Raum« und sprach: Nun hat uns der HERR Raum gemacht und wir können wachsen im Lande. 23 Danach zog er von dannen nach Beerscheba. 24 Und der HERR erschien ihm in derselben Nacht und sprach: Ich bin der Gott deines Vaters Abraham. Fürchte dich nicht, denn ich bin mit dir und will dich segnen und deine Nachkommen mehren um meines Knechtes Abraham willen. 25 Dann baute er dort einen Altar und rief den Namen des HERRN an und schlug dort sein Zelt auf und seine Knechte gruben dort einen Brunnen. (Ge 12:8) 26 Und Abimelech ging zu ihm von Gerar mit Ahusat, seinem Freund, und Pichol, seinem Feldhauptmann. 27 Aber Isaak sprach zu ihnen: Warum kommt ihr zu mir? Hasst ihr mich doch und habt mich von euch getrieben. 28 Sie sprachen: Wir sehen mit sehenden Augen, dass der HERR mit dir ist. Darum sprachen wir: Es soll ein Eid zwischen uns und dir sein, und wir wollen einen Bund mit dir schließen, (De 29:3; Mt 13:13) 29 dass du uns keinen Schaden tust, gleichwie wir dich nicht angetastet haben und dir nur alles Gute getan und dich mit Frieden haben ziehen lassen. Du bist ja doch der Gesegnete des HERRN. 30 Da machte er ihnen ein Mahl und sie aßen und tranken. 31 Und früh am Morgen standen sie auf, und einer schwor dem andern. Und Isaak ließ sie gehen, und sie zogen von ihm mit Frieden. 32 Am selben Tage kamen Isaaks Knechte und sagten ihm von dem Brunnen, den sie gegraben hatten, und sprachen zu ihm: Wir haben Wasser gefunden. 33 Und er nannte ihn »Schwur«; daher heißt die Stadt Beerscheba^[1] bis auf den heutigen Tag.

34 Als Esau vierzig Jahre alt war, nahm er zur Frau Jehudit, die Tochter Beeris, des Hetiters, und Basemat, die Tochter Elons, des Hetiters. (Ge 36:2) 35 Die machten Isaak und Rebekka lauter Herzeleid.
