1 Then again Abraham took a wife, and her name was Keturah. 2 And she bare him Zimran, and Jokshan, and Medan, and Midian, and Ishbak, and Shuah. 3 And Jokshan begat Sheba, and Dedan. And the sons of Dedan were Asshurim, and Letushim, and Leummim. 4 And the sons of Midian; Ephah, and Epher, and Hanoch, and Abida, and Eldaah. All these were the children of Keturah. 5 And Abraham gave all that he had unto Isaac. 6 But unto the sons of the concubines, which Abraham had, Abraham gave gifts, and sent them away from Isaac his son, while he yet lived, eastward, unto the east country. 7 And these are the days of the years of Abraham' life which he lived, an hundred threescore and fifteen years. 8 Then Abraham gave up the ghost, and died in a good old age, an old man, and full of years ; and was gathered to his people. 9 And his sons Isaac and Ishmael buried him in the cave of Machpelah, in the field of Ephron the son of Zohar the Hittite, which is before Mamre; 10 The field which Abraham purchased of the sons of Heth: there was Abraham buried, and Sarah his wife. 11 And it came to pass after the death of Abraham, that God blessed his son Isaac; and Isaac dwelt by the well Lahairoi. 12 Now these are the generations of Ishmael, Abraham' son, whom Hagar the Egyptian, Sarah' handmaid, bare unto Abraham: 13 And these are the names of the sons of Ishmael, by their names, according to their generations: the firstborn of Ishmael, Nebajoth; and Kedar, and Adbeel, and Mibsam, 14 And Mishma, and Dumah, and Massa, 15 Hadar, and Tema, Jetur, Naphish, and Kedemah: 16 These are the sons of Ishmael, and these are their names, by their towns, and by their castles; twelve princes according to their nations. 17 And these are the years of the life of Ishmael, an hundred and thirty and seven years: and he gave up the ghost and died; and was gathered unto his people. 18 And they dwelt from Havilah unto Shur, that is before Egypt, as thou goest toward Assyria: and he died in the presence of all his brethren. 19 And these are the generations of Isaac, Abraham' son: Abraham begat Isaac: 20 And Isaac was forty years old when he took Rebekah to wife, the daughter of Bethuel the Syrian of Padanaram, the sister to Laban the Syrian. 21 And Isaac intreated the LORD for his wife, because she was barren: and the LORD was intreated of him, and Rebekah his wife conceived. 22 And the children struggled together within her; and she said, If it be so, why am I thus? And she went to enquire of the LORD. 23 And the LORD said unto her, Two nations are in thy womb, and two manner of people shall be separated from thy bowels; and the one people shall be stronger than the other people; and the elder shall serve the younger. 24 And when her days to be delivered were fulfilled, behold, there were twins in her womb. 25 And the first came out red, all over like an hairy garment; and they called his name Esau. 26 And after that came his brother out, and his hand took hold on Esau' heel; and his name was called Jacob: and Isaac was threescore years old when she bare them. 27 And the boys grew: and Esau was a cunning hunter, a man of the field; and Jacob was a plain man, dwelling in tents. 28 And Isaac loved Esau, because he did eat of his venison: but Rebekah loved Jacob. 29 And Jacob sod pottage: and Esau came from the field, and he was faint: 30 And Esau said to Jacob, Feed me, I pray thee, with that same red pottage ; for I am faint: therefore was his name called Edom. 31 And Jacob said, Sell me this day thy birthright. 32 And Esau said, Behold, I am at the point to die: and what profit shall this birthright do to me? 33 And Jacob said, Swear to me this day; and he sware unto him: and he sold his birthright unto Jacob. 34 Then Jacob gave Esau bread and pottage of lentiles; and he did eat and drink, and rose up, and went his way: thus Esau despised his birthright.

Abrahams zweite Ehe. Sein Tod und Begräbnis

1 Abraham nahm wieder eine Frau, die hieß Ketura. 2 Die gebar ihm Simran und Jokschan, Medan und Midian, Jischbak und Schuach. 3 Jokschan aber zeugte Saba und Dedan. Die Söhne Dedans aber waren: die Aschuriter, die Letuschiter und die Lëummiter. 4 Die Söhne Midians waren: Efa, Efer, Henoch, Abida und Eldaa. Diese alle sind Söhne der Ketura. 5 Und Abraham gab all sein Gut Isaak. 6 Aber den Söhnen, die er von den Nebenfrauen hatte, gab Abraham Geschenke und schickte sie noch zu seinen Lebzeiten fort von seinem Sohn Isaak, nach Osten hin ins Morgenland. 7 Das ist aber Abrahams Alter, das er erreicht hat: hundertfünfundsiebzig Jahre. (Ge 12:4) 8 Und Abraham verschied und starb in einem guten Alter, als er alt und lebenssatt war, und wurde zu seinen Vätern versammelt. (Ge 15:15) 9 Und es begruben ihn seine Söhne Isaak und Ismael in der Höhle von Machpela auf dem Acker Efrons, des Sohnes Zohars, des Hetiters, die da liegt östlich von Mamre (Ge 23:13) 10 auf dem Felde, das Abraham von den Hetitern gekauft hatte. Da ist Abraham begraben mit Sara, seiner Frau. 11 Und nach dem Tode Abrahams segnete Gott Isaak, seinen Sohn. Und er wohnte bei dem »Brunnen des Lebendigen, der mich sieht«. (Ge 16:14; Ge 17:19)

Ismaels Nachkommen

12 Dies ist das Geschlecht Ismaels, des Sohnes Abrahams, den ihm die Ägypterin Hagar gebar, die Magd Saras; (Ge 21:13) 13 und dies sind die Namen der Söhne Ismaels, nach denen ihre Geschlechter genannt sind: der erstgeborene Sohn Ismaels Nebajot, dann Kedar, Adbeel, Mibsam, 14 Mischma, Duma, Massa, 15 Hadad, Tema, Jetur, Nafisch und Kedma. 16 Das sind die Söhne Ismaels mit ihren Namen nach ihren Gehöften und Zeltdörfern, zwölf Fürsten nach ihren Stämmen. – (Ge 17:20; Nu 1:44) 17 Und das ist das Alter Ismaels: hundertsiebenunddreißig Jahre. Und er verschied und starb und wurde versammelt zu seinen Vätern. – 18 Und sie wohnten von Hawila an bis nach Schur östlich von Ägypten nach Assyrien hin. So ließ er sich nieder, all seinen Brüdern vor die Nase. (Ge 16:12)

Esaus und Jakobs Geburt

19 Dies ist das Geschlecht Isaaks, des Sohnes Abrahams: Abraham zeugte Isaak. 20 Isaak aber war vierzig Jahre alt, als er Rebekka zur Frau nahm, die Tochter Betuëls, des Aramäers aus Paddan-Aram, die Schwester des Aramäers Laban. 21 Isaak aber bat den HERRN für seine Frau, denn sie war unfruchtbar. Und der HERR ließ sich erbitten, und Rebekka, seine Frau, ward schwanger. 22 Und die Kinder stießen sich miteinander in ihrem Leib. Da sprach sie: Wenn es so ist, warum geschieht mir das? Und sie ging hin, den HERRN zu befragen. 23 Und der HERR sprach zu ihr: Zwei Völker sind in deinem Leibe, und zweierlei Volk wird sich scheiden aus deinem Schoß; und ein Volk wird dem andern überlegen sein, und der Ältere wird dem Jüngeren dienen. (Ge 27:29; Mal 1:2; Ro 9:10) 24 Als nun die Zeit kam, dass sie gebären sollte, siehe, da waren Zwillinge in ihrem Leibe. 25 Der erste, der herauskam, war rötlich, ganz behaart wie ein Fell, und sie nannten ihn Esau. 26 Danach kam heraus sein Bruder, der hielt mit seiner Hand die Ferse des Esau, und sie nannten ihn Jakob. Sechzig Jahre alt war Isaak, als sie geboren wurden. (Ho 12:4) 27 Und als nun die Knaben groß wurden, wurde Esau ein Jäger und streifte auf dem Felde umher, Jakob aber war ein ruhiger Mann und blieb bei den Zelten. 28 Und Isaak hatte Esau lieb und aß gern von seinem Wildbret; Rebekka aber hatte Jakob lieb.

Esau verkauft sein Erstgeburtsrecht

29 Und Jakob kochte ein Gericht. Da kam Esau vom Feld und war müde 30 und sprach zu Jakob: Lass mich schnell von dem Roten essen, dem Roten da; denn ich bin müde. Daher heißt er Edom^[1]. 31 Aber Jakob sprach: Verkaufe mir zuvor deine Erstgeburt. 32 Esau antwortete: Siehe, ich muss doch sterben; was soll mir da die Erstgeburt? 33 Jakob sprach: So schwöre mir zuvor. Und er schwor ihm und verkaufte so Jakob seine Erstgeburt. (Ge 27:36; Heb 12:16) 34 Da gab ihm Jakob Brot und das Linsengericht, und er aß und trank und stand auf und ging davon. So verachtete Esau seine Erstgeburt.
