1And it came to pass, when king Hezekiah heard it , that he rent his clothes, and covered himself with sackcloth, and went into the house of the LORD.2And he sent Eliakim, who was over the household, and Shebna the scribe, and the elders of the priests covered with sackcloth, unto Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz.3And they said unto him, Thus saith Hezekiah, This day is a day of trouble, and of rebuke, and of blasphemy: for the children are come to the birth, and there is not strength to bring forth.4It may be the LORD thy God will hear the words of Rabshakeh, whom the king of Assyria his master hath sent to reproach the living God, and will reprove the words which the LORD thy God hath heard: wherefore lift up thy prayer for the remnant that is left.5So the servants of king Hezekiah came to Isaiah.6And Isaiah said unto them, Thus shall ye say unto your master, Thus saith the LORD, Be not afraid of the words that thou hast heard, wherewith the servants of the king of Assyria have blasphemed me.7Behold, I will send a blast upon him, and he shall hear a rumour, and return to his own land; and I will cause him to fall by the sword in his own land.8So Rabshakeh returned, and found the king of Assyria warring against Libnah: for he had heard that he was departed from Lachish.9And he heard say concerning Tirhakah king of Ethiopia, He is come forth to make war with thee. And when he heard it , he sent messengers to Hezekiah, saying,10Thus shall ye speak to Hezekiah king of Judah, saying, Let not thy God, in whom thou trustest, deceive thee, saying, Jerusalem shall not be given into the hand of the king of Assyria.11Behold, thou hast heard what the kings of Assyria have done to all lands by destroying them utterly; and shalt thou be delivered?12Have the gods of the nations delivered them which my fathers have destroyed, as Gozan, and Haran, and Rezeph, and the children of Eden which were in Telassar?13Where is the king of Hamath, and the king of Arphad, and the king of the city of Sepharvaim, Hena, and Ivah?14And Hezekiah received the letter from the hand of the messengers, and read it: and Hezekiah went up unto the house of the LORD, and spread it before the LORD.15And Hezekiah prayed unto the LORD, saying,16O LORD of hosts, God of Israel, that dwellest between the cherubims, thou art the God, even thou alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth: thou hast made heaven and earth.17Incline thine ear, O LORD, and hear; open thine eyes, O LORD, and see: and hear all the words of Sennacherib, which hath sent to reproach the living God.18Of a truth, LORD, the kings of Assyria have laid waste all the nations, and their countries,19And have cast their gods into the fire: for they were no gods, but the work of men' hands, wood and stone: therefore they have destroyed them.20Now therefore, O LORD our God, save us from his hand, that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that thou art the LORD, even thou only.21Then Isaiah the son of Amoz sent unto Hezekiah, saying, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, Whereas thou hast prayed to me against Sennacherib king of Assyria:22This is the word which the LORD hath spoken concerning him; The virgin, the daughter of Zion, hath despised thee, and laughed thee to scorn; the daughter of Jerusalem hath shaken her head at thee.23Whom hast thou reproached and blasphemed? and against whom hast thou exalted thy voice, and lifted up thine eyes on high? even against the Holy One of Israel.24By thy servants hast thou reproached the Lord, and hast said, By the multitude of my chariots am I come up to the height of the mountains, to the sides of Lebanon; and I will cut down the tall cedars thereof, and the choice fir trees thereof: and I will enter into the height of his border, and the forest of his Carmel.25I have digged, and drunk water; and with the sole of my feet have I dried up all the rivers of the besieged places.26Hast thou not heard long ago, how I have done it; and of ancient times, that I have formed it? now have I brought it to pass, that thou shouldest be to lay waste defenced cities into ruinous heaps.27Therefore their inhabitants were of small power, they were dismayed and confounded: they were as the grass of the field, and as the green herb, as the grass on the housetops, and as corn blasted before it be grown up.28But I know thy abode, and thy going out, and thy coming in, and thy rage against me.29Because thy rage against me, and thy tumult, is come up into mine ears, therefore will I put my hook in thy nose, and my bridle in thy lips, and I will turn thee back by the way by which thou camest.30And this shall be a sign unto thee, Ye shall eat this year such as groweth of itself; and the second year that which springeth of the same: and in the third year sow ye, and reap, and plant vineyards, and eat the fruit thereof.31And the remnant that is escaped of the house of Judah shall again take root downward, and bear fruit upward:32For out of Jerusalem shall go forth a remnant, and they that escape out of mount Zion: the zeal of the LORD of hosts shall do this.33Therefore thus saith the LORD concerning the king of Assyria, He shall not come into this city, nor shoot an arrow there, nor come before it with shields, nor cast a bank against it.34By the way that he came, by the same shall he return, and shall not come into this city, saith the LORD.35For I will defend this city to save it for mine own sake, and for my servant David' sake.36Then the angel of the LORD went forth, and smote in the camp of the Assyrians a hundred and fourscore and five thousand: and when they arose early in the morning, behold, they were all dead corpses.37So Sennacherib king of Assyria departed, and went and returned, and dwelt at Nineveh.38And it came to pass, as he was worshipping in the house of Nisroch his god, that Adrammelech and Sharezer his sons smote him with the sword; and they escaped into the land of Armenia: and Esarhaddon his son reigned in his stead.
Hiskias Hilferuf an Jesaja, sein Gebet und die Rettung Jerusalems

(Es 4:1; Isa 22:12; Isa 22:15)3Und sie sagten zu ihm: So spricht Hiskia: Ein Tag der Bedrängnis und der Züchtigung und der Schmähung ist dieser Tag. Denn die Kinder sind bis an den Muttermund gekommen, aber da ist keine Kraft zu gebären. (Isa 66:9)4Vielleicht hört der HERR, dein Gott, die Worte des Rabschake, den sein Herr, der König von Assur, gesandt hat, um den lebendigen Gott zu verhöhnen, und bestraft ⟨ihn⟩ wegen der Worte, die der HERR, dein Gott, gehört hat. Erhebe doch ein Gebet für den Rest, der sich ⟨noch⟩ findet! (2Ch 34:21; Isa 1:8; Isa 36:18; Jer 42:2)5So kamen die Knechte des Königs Hiskia zu Jesaja.6Und Jesaja sagte zu ihnen: So sollt ihr zu eurem Herrn sagen: So spricht der HERR: Fürchte dich nicht vor den Worten, die du gehört hast, mit denen die Diener des Königs von Assur mich gelästert haben! (2Ch 20:15; Isa 10:24; Isa 41:10; Isa 51:7)7Siehe, ich will ihm einen Geist eingeben, dass er ein Gerücht hören und in sein Land zurückkehren wird. Dann will ich ihn in seinem Land durchs Schwert fällen. (Isa 37:29)8Und der Rabschake kehrte zurück und fand den König von Assur im Kampf gegen Libna, denn er hatte gehört, dass er von Lachisch aufgebrochen sei.9Der ⟨König⟩ hatte nämlich über Tirhaka, den König von Kusch, sagen hören: Er ist ausgezogen, um gegen dich zu kämpfen. Und als er es hörte, sandte er Boten zu Hiskia und ließ ⟨ihm⟩ sagen:10So sollt ihr zu Hiskia, dem König von Juda, sagen: Dein Gott täusche dich nicht, auf den du vertraust, indem du sagst: Jerusalem wird nicht in die Hand des Königs von Assur gegeben werden! (Isa 36:15)11Siehe, du hast gehört, was die Könige von Assur mit allen Ländern getan haben, indem sie an ihnen den Bann vollstreckten. Und du solltest gerettet werden? (Na 3:19)12Haben die Götter der Nationen, die meine Väter vernichtet haben, sie gerettet: Gosan, Haran und Rezef und die Söhne Edens, die in Telassar waren? (Isa 36:18)13Wo ist der König von Hamat und der König von Arpad und der König der Stadt Sefarwajim, ⟨von⟩ Hena und Awa?14Da nahm Hiskia den Brief[2] aus der Hand der Boten und las ihn. Dann ging er hinauf ins Haus des HERRN, und Hiskia breitete ihn vor dem HERRN aus. (Isa 37:1)15Und Hiskia betete zum HERRN: (1Ki 8:28)16HERR der Heerscharen, Gott Israels, der du über den Cherubim thronst, du bist es, der da Gott ist, du allein, für alle Königreiche der Erde. Du hast den Himmel und die Erde gemacht. (1Ki 8:6; Ps 83:19)17Neige, HERR, dein Ohr und höre! Tue, HERR, deine Augen auf und sieh! Ja, höre all die Worte Sanheribs, der ⟨hierher⟩ gesandt hat, um den lebendigen Gott zu verhöhnen! (2Ch 7:15; Da 9:18)18Es ist wahr, HERR, die Könige von Assur haben alle Nationen[3] und ihr Land in Trümmer gelegt.19Und ihre Götter haben sie ins Feuer geworfen, denn sie waren ja keine Götter, sondern ein Werk von Menschenhänden, Holz und Stein, und so konnte man sie vernichten. (Isa 10:10; Ga 4:8)20Nun aber, HERR, unser Gott, rette uns aus seiner Hand, damit alle Königreiche der Erde erkennen, dass du allein der HERR bist! (1Ki 8:59; Isa 45:5; Eze 39:21)21Da sandte Jesaja, der Sohn des Amoz, zu Hiskia und ließ ⟨ihm⟩ sagen: So spricht der HERR, der Gott Israels: Was du zu mir gebetet hast wegen Sanheribs, des Königs von Assur⟨, habe ich gehört⟩. (Isa 38:5; Jas 5:16)22Dies ist das Wort, das der HERR über ihn geredet hat: Es verachtet dich, es verspottet dich die Jungfrau, die Tochter Zion; die Tochter Jerusalem schüttelt das Haupt hinter dir her.23Wen hast du verhöhnt und gelästert und gegen wen die Stimme erhoben? Gegen den Heiligen Israels hast du deine Augen emporgerichtet! (1Sa 17:26; Ps 74:18; Isa 10:15)24Durch deine Knechte hast du den Herrn verhöhnt und hast gesagt: Mit der Menge meiner Wagen habe ich die Höhe der Berge erstiegen, das äußerste Ende des Libanon. Ich haue den Hochwald seiner Zedern um, die Auslese seiner Wacholderbäume, ich komme auf seine äußerste Höhe, in das Dickicht seines Baumbestandes. (Jer 22:6; Eze 21:2)25Ich habe gegraben und Wasser getrunken, und mit der Sohle meiner Füße trockne ich alle Ströme[4] Mazors aus. (Isa 10:13; Isa 19:5)26Hast du nicht gehört, dass ich lange vorher[5] es gewirkt und von den Tagen der Vorzeit her es gebildet habe[6]? Nun habe ich es kommen lassen, dass du befestigte Städte verwüstest zu öden Steinhaufen. (Isa 22:11)27Und ihre Bewohner waren machtlos[7], sie wurden schreckerfüllt und zuschanden. Sie waren ⟨wie⟩ Kraut des Feldes und grünes Gras, ⟨wie⟩ Gras auf den Dächern, das vor dem Ostwind verdorrt[8]. (Ps 129:6; Eze 35:13)28Dein Sitzen und dein Aus- und Eingehen kenne ich, ja, dein Toben gegen mich.29Wegen deines Tobens gegen mich, und weil dein Übermut in meine Ohren heraufgekommen ist, werde ich meinen Ring in deine Nase legen und meinen Zaum an deine Lippen und werde dich zurückführen auf dem Weg, auf dem du gekommen bist. – (Job 40:26; Isa 37:7; Eze 29:4; Eze 38:4; Na 2:14)30Und dies soll dir[9] das Zeichen sein: Man wird in diesem Jahr den Nachwuchs ⟨der Ernte⟩ essen und im zweiten Jahr den Wildwuchs. Aber im dritten Jahr sollt ihr säen und ernten, Weinberge pflanzen und ihre Frucht essen. (Isa 38:7)31Und was vom Haus Juda entkommen, was übrig geblieben ist, wird wieder wurzeln nach unten und Frucht tragen nach oben. (Isa 10:21; Isa 27:6)32Denn von Jerusalem wird ein Rest ausgehen und das Entkommene vom Berg Zion. Der Eifer des HERRN der Heerscharen wird das tun. (Isa 9:6)33Darum, so spricht der HERR über den König von Assur: Er wird nicht in diese Stadt kommen. Und er wird keinen Pfeil hineinschießen und ihr nicht mit dem Schild entgegentreten, und er wird keinen Wall gegen sie aufschütten.34Auf dem Weg, den er gekommen ist, auf ihm wird er zurückkehren und wird nicht in diese Stadt kommen, spricht der HERR[10].35Denn ich will diese Stadt beschirmen, um sie zu retten, um meinetwegen und meines Knechtes David wegen. (1Ch 17:19; Isa 31:5; Isa 48:11)36Da zog der Engel des HERRN aus und schlug im Lager von Assur 185 000 ⟨Mann⟩. Und als man früh am Morgen aufstand, siehe, da ⟨fand man⟩ sie alle tot, ⟨lauter⟩ Leichen. (Job 34:20; Isa 10:17; Isa 29:5; Isa 30:31; Isa 31:8; Na 1:12)37Und Sanherib, der König von Assur, brach auf, zog fort und kehrte zurück; und er blieb in Ninive. (Isa 31:8; Isa 33:19)38Und es geschah, als er sich niederwarf im Haus seines Gottes Nisroch, da erschlugen ihn seine Söhne Adrammelech und Sarezer mit dem Schwert; und sie entkamen in das Land Ararat. Und sein Sohn Asarhaddon wurde an seiner Stelle König. (2Ki 20:1; 2Ch 32:24; Isa 37:7; Jer 51:27)
