Hoffnung für alle

Der Engel des Herrn tadelt Israel

1 Der Engel des HERRN kam von Gilgal nach Bochim und sagte zu den Israeliten: »Ich habe euch aus Ägypten befreit und in das Land gebracht, das ich euren Vorfahren versprochen habe. Damals schwor ich, meinen Bund mit euch niemals zu brechen. 2 Ich befahl: ›Lasst euch nicht mit den Bewohnern dieses Landes ein! Zerstört ihre Götzenaltäre!‹ Doch was habt ihr getan? Ihr habt nicht auf mich gehört! 3 Darum werde ich diese Völker nicht mehr aus eurem Gebiet vertreiben. Stattdessen wird das eintreffen, wovor ich euch gewarnt habe: Sie werden euch großes Leid zufügen und euch mit ihren Götzen ins Verderben stürzen.« 4 Als der Engel des HERRN dies gesagt hatte, begannen die Israeliten laut zu weinen. 5 Sie brachten dem HERRN Opfer dar und nannten den Ort Bochim (»Weinende«).

Israel bricht dem Herrn die Treue

6 Vor seinem Tod hatte Josua das Volk verabschiedet, und jeder Stamm war in sein Gebiet gezogen, um es in Besitz zu nehmen. 7 Die Israeliten blieben dem HERRN treu, solange Josua und nach ihm die führenden Männer Israels lebten, die noch selbst gesehen hatten, wie der HERR ihrem Volk mit machtvollen Taten geholfen hatte. 8 Josua, der Sohn von Nun, der Diener des HERRN, starb im Alter von 110 Jahren. 9 Man begrub ihn auf dem Grundstück, das ihm und seinen Nachkommen gehören sollte; es lag in Timnat-Heres nördlich des Berges Gaasch im Gebirge Ephraim. 10 Als von seiner Generation keiner mehr lebte, gab es eine neue Generation, die den HERRN weder kannte noch wusste, was er für Israel getan hatte. 11 Sie taten, was dem HERRN missfiel: Sie dienten anderen Göttern 12 und wandten sich ab vom HERRN, dem Gott ihrer Vorfahren, der ihr Volk aus Ägypten befreit hatte. Den Götzen der Völker ringsum liefen sie nach und beteten sie an. Damit forderten sie den Zorn des HERRN heraus. 13 Sie kehrten ihm den Rücken und dienten dem Gott Baal und der Göttin Astarte. 14 Der HERR war zornig auf die Israeliten. Er sorgte dafür, dass Räuberbanden sie ausplünderten und ihre Nachbarvölker mächtiger wurden als sie. Nun konnten die Israeliten sich nicht mehr gegen ihre Feinde behaupten. 15 Was sie auch unternahmen, um sich zu verteidigen – der HERR ließ es ihnen misslingen. Sie gerieten in große Bedrängnis, so wie er es ihnen angekündigt hatte. 16 Da berief der HERR Männer zu Führern seines Volkes, die es aus der Gewalt der Feinde befreiten. Sie wurden Richter genannt. 17 Aber auch auf die Richter hörten die Israeliten nicht, sondern warfen sich fremden Göttern an den Hals und beteten sie an. So kamen sie bald wieder von dem Weg ab, den ihre Vorfahren gegangen waren. Damals hatten die Israeliten sich noch an die Gebote des HERRN gehalten, doch nun taten sie, was sie wollten. 18 Wenn sie dann aber verzweifelt klagten, weil ihre Feinde sie hart bedrängten und unterdrückten, hatte der HERR Mitleid mit ihnen. Er berief einen Richter und stand ihm bei, um das Volk aus der Hand seiner Feinde zu retten. Solange der Richter lebte, waren die Israeliten in Sicherheit. 19 Nach seinem Tod aber schlugen sie wieder ihre alten Wege ein. Sie verehrten andere Götter, dienten ihnen und warfen sich vor ihnen nieder. Dabei trieben sie es noch schlimmer als ihre Vorfahren. Stur hielten sie an ihren Machenschaften fest und ließen sich durch nichts davon abbringen. 20 Da wurde der HERR wieder zornig auf sie und sprach: »Dieses Volk hat den Bund gebrochen, den ich mit ihren Vorfahren geschlossen habe. Sie wollen nicht auf mich hören. 21 Darum werde ich keines der Völker, die seit Josuas Tod noch im Land sind, mehr vertreiben; sie sollen dort bleiben. 22 Durch sie will ich die Israeliten auf die Probe stellen und sehen, ob sie sich an meine Gebote halten wie ihre Vorfahren oder nicht.« 23 So vertrieb der HERR die Völker, die Josua nicht besiegen konnte, nicht sofort aus dem Land, sondern ließ sie dort wohnen.

Israel’s Disobedience

1 Now the angel of the Lord went up from Gilgal to Bochim. And he said, “I brought you up from Egypt and brought you into the land that I swore to give to your fathers. I said, ‘I will never break my covenant with you, (1Mo 17,7; 2Mo 6,4; 5Mo 31,16; Ri 2,5)

2 and you shall make no covenant with the inhabitants of this land; you shall break down their altars.’ But you have not obeyed my voice. What is this you have done? (5Mo 7,2; 5Mo 12,3) 3 So now I say, I will not drive them out before you, but they shall become thorns in your sides, and their gods shall be a snare to you.” (4Mo 33,55; Jos 23,13; Ri 2,21) 4 As soon as the angel of the Lord spoke these words to all the people of Israel, the people lifted up their voices and wept. 5 And they called the name of that place Bochim.^[1] And they sacrificed there to the Lord.

The Death of Joshua

6 When Joshua dismissed the people, the people of Israel went each to his inheritance to take possession of the land. 7 And the people served the Lord all the days of Joshua, and all the days of the elders who outlived Joshua, who had seen all the great work that the Lord had done for Israel. (Jos 24,29) 8 And Joshua the son of Nun, the servant of the Lord, died at the age of 110 years. 9 And they buried him within the boundaries of his inheritance in Timnath-heres, in the hill country of Ephraim, north of the mountain of Gaash. (Jos 19,50; Jos 24,33) 10 And all that generation also were gathered to their fathers. And there arose another generation after them who did not know the Lord or the work that he had done for Israel.

Israel’s Unfaithfulness

11 And the people of Israel did what was evil in the sight of the Lord and served the Baals. (Ri 3,7; Ri 4,1; Ri 6,1; Ri 10,6; Ri 13,1)

12 And they abandoned the Lord, the God of their fathers, who had brought them out of the land of Egypt. They went after other gods, from among the gods of the peoples who were around them, and bowed down to them. And they provoked the Lord to anger. 14 So the anger of the Lord was kindled against Israel, and he gave them over to plunderers, who plundered them. 15 Whenever they marched out, the hand of the Lord was against them for harm, as the Lord had warned, and as the Lord had sworn to them. And they were in terrible distress. (3Mo 26,14; 5Mo 28,15)

The Lord Raises Up Judges

16 Then the Lord raised up judges, who saved them out of the hand of those who plundered them. (Ri 3,9; Ri 3,15; Ri 3,31; Ri 10,1; Ri 10,12; Ri 12,2; Ri 13,5; 1Sam 12,11; Neh 9,27; Apg 13,20)

17 Yet they did not listen to their judges, for they whored after other gods and bowed down to them. They soon turned aside from the way in which their fathers had walked, who had obeyed the commandments of the Lord, and they did not do so. (2Mo 34,15; 5Mo 9,12; Ri 8,33) 18 Whenever the Lord raised up judges for them, the Lord was with the judge, and he saved them from the hand of their enemies all the days of the judge. 19 But whenever the judge died, they turned back and were more corrupt than their fathers, going after other gods, serving them and bowing down to them. They did not drop any of their practices or their stubborn ways. (Ri 3,12; Ri 4,1; Ri 6,1; Ri 8,33)

Muerte de Josué El pacto quebrantado

1 El ángel de YHVH subió entonces de Gilgal a Bojim, y dijo: Yo os hice subir de Egipto, y os introduje a la tierra que tenía jurada a vuestros padres y dije: No quebrantaré mi pacto con vosotros. 2 Pero vosotros hicisteis pacto con los habitantes de esta tierra, cuyos altares debíais derribar. No habéis obedecido a mi voz. ¿Qué es esto que habéis hecho? 3 Por lo cual he dicho: No los expulsaré de delante de vosotros, sino que os serán espinas en vuestros costados, y sus dioses serán trampa para vosotros. 4 Y cuando el ángel de YHVH habló estas palabras a todos los hijos de Israel, el pueblo alzó su voz y lloró. 5 Y llamaron el nombre de aquel lugar Bojim. Y allí ofrecieron sacrificios a YHVH. 6 Cuando Josué hubo despedido al pueblo, los hijos de Israel se fueron cada cual a su heredad para tomar posesión de la tierra. 7 Y el pueblo sirvió a YHVH todos los días de Josué, y todos los días de los ancianos que sobrevivieron a Josué, quien había visto todas las grandes obras de YHVH, que Él había hecho a favor de Israel. 8 Murió pues Josué ben Nun, siervo de YHVH, de edad de ciento diez años, 9 y lo sepultaron en el territorio de su heredad, en Timnat-jeres, en la serranía de Efraín, al norte del monte Gaas. 10 Y toda aquella generación también fue reunida a sus padres. Pero después de ellos se levantó otra generación que no conocía a YHVH, ni las obras que Él había hecho por Israel. 11 Entonces los hijos de Israel hicieron lo malo ante los ojos de YHVH, y sirvieron a los baales. 12 Así abandonaron a YHVH, el Dios de sus padres, que los había sacado de la tierra de Egipto, y anduvieron tras otros dioses, los dioses de los pueblos que estaban en sus alrededores, y se postraron ante ellos, y provocaron a ira a YHVH. 13 Abandonaron pues a YHVH, y sirvieron a Baal y a Astarot. 14 Por eso la ira de YHVH se encendió contra Israel, y los entregó en manos de saqueadores que los despojaron, y los entregó en manos de sus enemigos en derredor, de manera que ya no pudieron hacer frente a sus enemigos. 15 Por dondequiera que salían, la mano de YHVH estaba contra ellos para mal, como YHVH había hablado, y como YHVH se lo había jurado, de suerte que se veían en grandes aprietos. 16 Entonces YHVH levantaba jueces que los libraban de mano de sus saqueadores. 17 Pero ni aun a sus jueces escucharon, sino que, prostituyéndose tras otros dioses, se postraban ante ellos. Muy pronto se desviaron del camino en que anduvieron sus padres para obedecer los mandamientos de YHVH, pero ellos no lo hicieron así. 18 Y cuando YHVH les levantaba jueces, YHVH estaba con el juez y los libraba de mano de sus enemigos todos los días de aquel juez, porque YHVH se conmovía de sus gemidos a causa de quienes los maltrataban y oprimían. 19 Pero sucedía que cuando moría aquel juez, ellos se volvían atrás y se corrompían más que sus padres, yendo en pos de otros dioses para servirles y postrarse ante ellos, y no desistían de sus prácticas ni de seguir su perverso camino. 20 Por lo cual la ira de YHVH se encendió contra Israel, y dijo: Por cuanto esta nación transgrede mi pacto, el que ordené a sus padres, y no obedecen mi voz, 21 tampoco Yo volveré más a desposeer de delante de ellos a hombre alguno de aquellas naciones que Josué dejó cuando murió, 22 a fin de probar por medio de ellas a Israel, si guardarían o no el camino de YHVH para andar en él, como sus padres lo guardaron. 23 Por esto YHVH había dejado a aquellas naciones sin desposeerlas de una vez y no las había entregado en mano de Josué.

Israele punito per la sua disubbidienza

1 L’angelo del Signore salì da Ghilgal a Bochim e disse: «Io vi ho fatto salire dall’Egitto e vi ho condotti nel paese che avevo giurato ai vostri padri di darvi. Avevo anche detto: “Io non romperò mai il mio patto con voi; 2 e voi, dal canto vostro, non farete alleanza con gli abitanti di questo paese e demolirete i loro altari”. Ma voi non avete ubbidito alla mia voce. Perché avete fatto questo? 3 Perciò anch’io ho detto: “Io non li scaccerò davanti a voi; ma essi saranno tanti nemici contro di voi e i loro dèi saranno per voi un’insidia”». 4 Appena l’angelo del Signore ebbe detto queste parole a tutti i figli d’Israele, il popolo si mise a piangere ad alta voce. 5 Posero a quel luogo il nome di Bochim^[1] e offrirono là dei sacrifici al Signore. 6 Giosuè rimandò il popolo, e i figli d’Israele andarono ciascuno nel suo territorio a prendere possesso del paese. 7 Il popolo servì il Signore durante tutta la vita di Giosuè e durante tutta la vita degli anziani che sopravvissero a Giosuè, che avevano visto tutte le grandi opere che il Signore aveva fatte in favore d’Israele. 8 Poi Giosuè, figlio di Nun e servo del Signore, morì all’età di centodieci anni 9 e fu sepolto nel territorio che gli era toccato a Timnat-Cheres, nella regione montuosa di Efraim, a nord della montagna di Gaas.

Corruzione e disfatta della nuova generazione; i giudici

10 Anche tutta quella generazione fu riunita ai suoi padri; poi, dopo quella, vi fu un’altra generazione che non conosceva il Signore, né le opere che egli aveva compiute in favore d’Israele. 11 I figli d’Israele fecero ciò che è male agli occhi del Signore e servirono gli idoli di Baal^[2]. 12 Abbandonarono il Signore, il Dio dei loro padri, che li aveva fatti uscire dal paese d’Egitto, e andarono dietro ad altri dèi, fra gli dèi dei popoli che li attorniavano; si prostrarono davanti a essi e provocarono l’ira del Signore. 13 Abbandonarono il Signore e servirono Baal e gli idoli di Astarte^[3]. 14 L’ira del Signore si accese contro Israele ed egli li diede in mano ai predoni, che li spogliarono; li vendette ai nemici che stavano loro intorno, in modo che non poterono più resistere di fronte ai loro nemici. 15 Dovunque andavano, la mano del Signore era contro di loro a loro danno, come il Signore aveva detto, come il Signore aveva loro giurato; e la loro tribolazione fu molto grande. 16 Il Signore allora fece sorgere dei giudici^[4], che li liberavano dalle mani di quelli che li spogliavano. 17 Ma neppure ai loro giudici davano ascolto, anzi, si prostituivano ad altri dèi e si prostravano davanti a loro. Abbandonarono ben presto la via percorsa dai loro padri, i quali avevano ubbidito ai comandamenti del Signore; ma essi non fecero così. 18 Quando il Signore suscitava loro dei giudici, il Signore era con il giudice e li liberava dalla mano dei loro nemici durante tutta la vita del giudice; poiché il Signore aveva compassione dei loro gemiti a causa di quelli che li opprimevano e angariavano. 19 Ma quando il giudice moriva, tornavano a corrompersi più dei loro padri, andando dietro ad altri dèi per servirli e prostrarsi davanti a loro; non rinunciavano affatto alle loro pratiche e alla loro caparbia condotta. 20 Perciò l’ira del Signore si accese contro Israele, ed egli disse: «Poiché questa nazione ha violato il patto che avevo stabilito con i loro padri ed essi non hanno ubbidito alla mia voce, 21 anch’io non scaccerò più davanti a loro nessuna delle nazioni che Giosuè lasciò quando morì; 22 così, per mezzo di esse, metterò alla prova Israele per vedere se si atterranno alla via del Signore e cammineranno per essa come fecero i loro padri, o no». 23 Il Signore lasciò stare quelle nazioni senz’affrettarsi a scacciarle e non le diede nelle mani di Giosuè.
