Die Richter Tola und Jaïr

1 Nach Abimelechs Tod befreite Tola, der Sohn von Puwa, Israel von seinen Feinden. Er war ein Nachkomme von Dodo aus dem Stamm Issachar und wohnte in der Stadt Schamir im Gebirge Ephraim. 2 Dreiundzwanzig Jahre war er Richter in Israel. Dann starb er und wurde in Schamir begraben. 3 Nach ihm führte Jaïr, ein Mann aus Gilead, Israel zweiundzwanzig Jahre lang. 4 Er hatte dreißig Söhne, die dreißig Esel besaßen und denen dreißig Ortschaften im Gebiet von Gilead gehörten. Noch heute nennt man diese Ortschaften die »Dörfer Jaïrs«. 5 Als Jaïr gestorben war, begrub man ihn in Kamon.

Israel wendet sich wieder vom Herrn ab

6 Nach Jaïrs Tod taten die Israeliten wieder, was dem HERRN missfiel. Sie verehrten Baal und Astarte, ebenso die Götter der Syrer und Sidonier, der Moabiter, Ammoniter und Philister. Vom HERRN wollten sie nichts wissen und dienten ihm nicht mehr. 7 Da wurde er zornig und lieferte sie den Philistern und Ammonitern aus. 8 Noch im selben Jahr eroberten die Ammoniter das Gebiet der Israeliten in Gilead östlich des Jordan, wo früher die Amoriter gelebt hatten. Achtzehn Jahre lang unterdrückten und verfolgten sie die Israeliten. 9 Schließlich überquerten sie den Jordan und griffen auch noch die Stämme Juda, Benjamin und Ephraim an. So gerieten die Israeliten in große Not. 10 Sie schrien zum HERRN und bekannten: »Wir haben gegen dich gesündigt! Wir haben dich verlassen und anderen Göttern gedient!« 11 Der HERR antwortete ihnen: »Von so vielen Feinden habe ich euch schon befreit: von den Ägyptern, den Amoritern, den Ammonitern und den Philistern. 12 Ich habe euch auch geholfen, als die Sidonier, die Amalekiter und die Maoniter^[1] euch aus eurem Land verdrängen wollten und ihr zu mir um Hilfe rieft. 13 Trotzdem habt ihr mir immer wieder den Rücken gekehrt und andere Götter verehrt! Darum werde ich euch jetzt nicht mehr helfen! 14 Warum fleht ihr nicht die Götter an, die ihr euch selbst ausgesucht habt? Sollen sie euch doch retten aus eurer Not!« 15 Aber die Israeliten gaben nicht auf; sie beteten zum HERRN: »Wir sind schuldig! Du kannst mit uns tun, was du für richtig hältst. Nur rette uns doch heute vor unseren Feinden!« 16 Sie beseitigten die fremden Götter und dienten wieder dem HERRN. Da konnte er ihr Elend nicht länger ertragen.

Jeftah wird Anführer der Israeliten aus Gilead

17 Die Ammoniter zogen ihre Truppen zusammen und schlugen ihr Lager im Gebiet von Gilead auf. Darauf versammelten sich auch die Israeliten, die dort lebten, und lagerten in Mizpa. 18 Ihre führenden Männer überlegten: »Wir brauchen jemanden, der unserem Heer voran in den Kampf zieht. Wer es tut, den ernennen wir zum Oberhaupt aller Bewohner von Gilead.«

1 After Abimelech there arose to save Israel Tola the son of Puah, son of Dodo, a man of Issachar, and he lived at Shamir in the hill country of Ephraim. (Jos 24,33; Ri 2,16; Ri 10,12) 2 And he judged Israel twenty-three years. Then he died and was buried at Shamir. 3 After him arose Jair the Gileadite, who judged Israel twenty-two years. 4 And he had thirty sons who rode on thirty donkeys, and they had thirty cities, called Havvoth-jair to this day, which are in the land of Gilead. Further Disobedience and Oppression

6 The people of Israel again did what was evil in the sight of the Lord and served the Baals and the Ashtaroth, the gods of Syria, the gods of Sidon, the gods of Moab, the gods of the Ammonites, and the gods of the Philistines. 7 So the anger of the Lord was kindled against Israel, and he sold them into the hand of the Philistines and into the hand of the Ammonites, (Ri 2,14) 8 and they crushed and oppressed the people of Israel that year. For eighteen years they oppressed all the people of Israel who were beyond the Jordan in the land of the Amorites, which is in Gilead. 9 And the Ammonites crossed the Jordan to fight also against Judah and against Benjamin and against the house of Ephraim, so that Israel was severely distressed. 10 And the people of Israel cried out to the Lord, saying, “We have sinned against you, because we have forsaken our God and have served the Baals.” (Ri 3,9; Ri 10,6; Ri 10,13) 11 And the Lord said to the people of Israel, “Did I not save you from the Egyptians and from the Amorites, from the Ammonites and from the Philistines? 1 Después de Abimelec, se levantó para librar a Israel, Tola ben Púa, hijo de Dodo, varón de Isacar, el cual habitó en Samir, en la serranía de Efraín. 2 Éste juzgó a Israel durante veintitrés años, y murió, y fue sepultado en Samir. 3 Tras él se levantó Jaír galaadita, el cual juzgó a Israel veintidós años. 4 Tuvo treinta hijos, que cabalgaban en treinta asnos y poseían treinta villas en la tierra de Galaad, que hasta hoy se llaman Havot-Jaír. 5 Y murió Jaír, y fue sepultado en Camón. 6 Pero los hijos de Israel volvieron a hacer lo malo ante los ojos de YHVH y sirvieron a los baales y a las Astarot, a los dioses de Siria, a los dioses de Sidón, a los dioses de Moab, a los dioses de los hijos de Amón y a los dioses de los filisteos, y abandonaron a YHVH y no le sirvieron. 7 Y se encendió la ira de YHVH contra Israel, y los vendió en mano de los filisteos, y en mano de los hijos de Amón, 8 quienes a partir de aquel año oprimieron y vejaron a los israelitas durante dieciocho años, a todos los hijos de Israel que vivían allende el Jordán, en tierra de los amorreos, en Galaad. 9 Así pues, los hijos de Amón cruzaron el Jordán para combatir también contra Judá, contra Benjamín y contra la casa de Efraín; y esto angustió a Israel en gran manera. 10 Entonces los hijos de Israel clamaron a YHVH, y dijeron: ¡Hemos pecado contra ti, porque hemos abandonado a nuestro Dios para servir a los baales! 11 Y dijo YHVH a los hijos de Israel: ¿No os libré Yo de Egipto, y de los amorreos, y de los hijos de Amón, y de los filisteos? 12 Y cuando los sidonios, y los amalecitas, y los maonitas os oprimieron, y clamasteis a mí, ¿no os libré de su mano? 13 Con todo esto vosotros me habéis abandonado y habéis servido a otros dioses. I Filistei e gli Ammoniti opprimono Israele

6 I figli d’Israele continuarono a fare ciò che è male agli occhi del Signore e servirono gli idoli di Baal e di Astarte, gli dèi della Siria, gli dèi di Sidone, gli dèi di Moab, gli dèi degli Ammoniti e gli dèi dei Filistei; abbandonarono il Signore e non lo servirono più. 7 L’ira del Signore si accese contro i figli d’Israele ed egli li diede nelle mani dei Filistei e nelle mani dei figli di Ammon. 8 In quell’anno questi angariarono e oppressero i figli d’Israele; per diciotto anni oppressero tutti i figli d’Israele che erano di là dal Giordano nel paese degli Amorei, in Galaad. 9 I figli di Ammon attraversarono il Giordano per combattere anche contro Giuda, contro Beniamino e contro la casa di Efraim; e Israele fu in grande angoscia. 10 Allora i figli d’Israele gridarono al Signore e dissero: «Abbiamo peccato contro di te, perché abbiamo abbandonato il nostro Dio e abbiamo servito i vari Baal». 11 Il Signore disse ai figli d’Israele: «Non vi ho liberati dagli Egiziani, dagli Amorei, dai figli di Ammon e dai Filistei? 12 Quando i Sidoni, gli Amalechiti e i Maoniti vi opprimevano e voi gridaste a me, non vi liberai dalle loro mani? 13 Eppure, mi avete abbandonato e avete servito altri dèi; perciò io non vi libererò più. 14 Andate a gridare agli dèi che avete scelto; vi salvino essi nel tempo della vostra angoscia!» 15 I figli d’Israele dissero al Signore: «Abbiamo peccato; facci tutto quello che a te piace; soltanto, te ne preghiamo, liberaci oggi!» 16 Allora tolsero di mezzo a loro gli dèi stranieri e servirono il Signore, che si addolorò per l’afflizione d’Israele. 17 I figli di Ammon si adunarono e si accamparono in Galaad e pure i figli d’Israele si adunarono e si accamparono a Mispa. 18 Il popolo, i prìncipi di Galaad, si dissero l’un l’altro: «Chi sarà l’uomo che comincerà l’attacco contro i figli di Ammon? Egli sarà il capo di tutti gli abitanti di Galaad».
