1HERE, U bent altijd rechtvaardig als ik een zaak aan U voorleg om uw beslissing te horen. Mag ik daarom deze klacht aan U voorleggen: Waarom gaat het slechte mensen altijd goed? Waarom hebben de goddelozen zoʼn gemakkelijk leven?2U plant ze, ze schieten wortel, bloeien op en hun handel floreert. Hun winsten groeien en zij zijn rijk. Zij zeggen: ‘God zij dank!’ Maar in hun hart menen zij daar niets van.3Maar wat mij betreft, HERE, U kent mijn hart, U weet hoe ik naar U verlang. Sleur hen weg als hulpeloze schapen naar het slachthuis, HERE. Veroordeel hen, o God!4Hoelang moet uw land al hun daden nog verdragen? Zelfs het gras in de weiden is erdoor verdord. De wilde dieren en de vogels zijn omgekomen door de goddeloosheid van de mensen. Maar toch blijven de mensen zeggen: ‘God zal geen oordeel over ons brengen. Ons kan niets gebeuren!’5De HERE gaf mij als antwoord: ‘Als u al moeite hebt om mensen bij te houden, wat doet u dan als u het moet opnemen tegen paarden, tegen de koning, zijn hofhouding en al zijn slechte priesters? Als u op vlak terrein al struikelt en valt, hoe zal het u dan vergaan in de wildernis bij de Jordaan?6Zelfs uw broers, uw eigen familie, hebben u verraden. Achter uw rug spreken zij tegen iedereen kwaad over u. Vertrouw hen niet, hoe vriendelijk ze ook praten. Geloof hen niet.’7Toen zei de HERE: ‘Ik heb mijn volk, mijn erfenis, verstoten, Ik heb de mensen van wie Ik houd aan hun vijanden overgeleverd.8Mijn volk heeft als een leeuw tegen Mij gebruld, daarom ben Ik het gaan haten.9Mijn volk is een lokaas. Ik zal zwermen roofvogels en wilde dieren erop afsturen om het te verscheuren.10Vele buitenlandse heersers zullen een ravage maken van mijn wijngaard, mijn akkers kapottrappen en de schoonheid van mijn velden in een troosteloze wildernis veranderen.11Zij zullen het land tot een dorre, lege woestenij maken. Het hele land zal vernield worden en niemand zal ernaar omzien.12Verwoestende legers zullen het land plunderen, het zwaard van de HERE zal velen doden, nergens is men meer veilig.13Mijn volk heeft tarwe gezaaid, maar zal dorens oogsten. De mensen hebben hard gewerkt, zonder dat het hun iets oplevert. Zij zullen een oogst van schande binnenhalen, want de vreselijke toorn van de HERE rust op hen.’14En nu zegt de HERE tegen de slechte volken die het land omringen dat God zijn volk Israël gaf: ‘Kijk, Ik zal u net zo uit uw land wegrukken als Juda.15Maar daarna zal Ik medelijden met u krijgen en u weer terugbrengen naar uw eigen land, iedereen naar zijn eigen erfdeel.16En als deze heidense volken bij mijn naam leren zweren door te zeggen: “Zo waar als de HERE leeft,” net zoals zij mijn volk bij de naam van Baäl hebben leren zweren, dan zullen zij bij mijn volk gaan horen.17Maar ieder volk dat weigert Mij te gehoorzamen, zal weer worden weggejaagd en vernietigd,’ zegt de HERE.
1Righteous are you, O Lord, when I complain to you; yet I would plead my case before you. Why does the way of the wicked prosper? Why do all who are treacherous thrive? Are the birds of prey against her all around? Go, assemble all the wild beasts; bring them to devour.
