1Dann wurde Jesus vom Geist in die Wüste geführt; dort sollte er vom Teufel versucht werden. (Mk 1,12; Lk 4,1)2Als er vierzig Tage und vierzig Nächte gefastet hatte, hungerte ihn.3Da trat der Versucher an ihn heran und sagte: Wenn du Gottes Sohn bist, so befiehl, dass aus diesen Steinen Brot wird.4Er aber antwortete: In der Schrift heißt es: Der Mensch lebt nicht vom Brot allein, sondern von jedem Wort, das aus Gottes Mund kommt. (5Mo 8,3)5Darauf nahm ihn der Teufel mit sich in die Heilige Stadt, stellte ihn oben auf den Tempel6und sagte zu ihm: Wenn du Gottes Sohn bist, so stürz dich hinab; denn es heißt in der Schrift:
Seinen Engeln befiehlt er um deinetwillen, / und: Sie werden dich auf ihren Händen tragen, / damit dein Fuß nicht an einen Stein stößt. (Ps 91,11)7Jesus antwortete ihm: In der Schrift heißt es auch: Du sollst den Herrn, deinen Gott, nicht auf die Probe stellen. (5Mo 6,16)8Wieder nahm ihn der Teufel mit sich und führte ihn auf einen sehr hohen Berg; er zeigte ihm alle Reiche der Welt mit ihrer Pracht9und sagte zu ihm: Das alles will ich dir geben, wenn du dich vor mir niederwirfst und mich anbetest.10Da sagte Jesus zu ihm: Weg mit dir, Satan! Denn in der Schrift steht: Den Herrn, deinen Gott, sollst du anbeten und ihm allein dienen. (5Mo 5,9; 5Mo 6,13)11Darauf ließ der Teufel von ihm ab und siehe, es kamen Engel und dienten ihm.
DAS WIRKEN JESU IN GALILÄA
Jesus – Licht für die Menschen
12Als Jesus hörte, dass Johannes ausgeliefert worden war, kehrte er nach Galiläa zurück. (Mk 1,14; Lk 4,14)13Er verließ Nazaret, um in Kafarnaum zu wohnen, das am See liegt, im Gebiet von Sebulon und Naftali.14Denn es sollte sich erfüllen, was durch den Propheten Jesaja gesagt worden ist:15Das Land Sebulon und das Land Naftali, / die Straße am Meer, das Gebiet jenseits des Jordan, / das heidnische Galiläa: (Jes 8,23)16Das Volk, das im Dunkel saß, / hat ein helles Licht gesehen; / denen, die im Schattenreich des Todes wohnten, / ist ein Licht erschienen. (Lk 1,79)
Die Verkündigung vom Himmelreich und die ersten Jünger
17Von da an begann Jesus zu verkünden: Kehrt um! Denn das Himmelreich ist nahe.[1] (Mk 1,15; Lk 5,1; Joh 1,35)18Als Jesus am See von Galiläa entlangging, sah er zwei Brüder, Simon, genannt Petrus, und seinen Bruder Andreas; sie warfen gerade ihr Netz in den See, denn sie waren Fischer. (Mt 9,9)19Da sagte er zu ihnen: Kommt her, mir nach! Ich werde euch zu Menschenfischern machen.20Sofort ließen sie ihre Netze liegen und folgten ihm nach.21Als er weiterging, sah er zwei andere Brüder, Jakobus, den Sohn des Zebedäus, und seinen Bruder Johannes; sie waren mit ihrem Vater Zebedäus im Boot und richteten ihre Netze her. Er rief sie22und sogleich verließen sie das Boot und ihren Vater und folgten Jesus nach.
Der Andrang der Menschen
23Er zog in ganz Galiläa umher, lehrte in den Synagogen, verkündete das Evangelium vom Reich und heilte im Volk alle Krankheiten und Leiden. (Mt 9,35; Mk 3,7; Lk 6,17)24Und sein Ruf verbreitete sich in ganz Syrien. Man brachte alle Kranken mit den verschiedensten Gebrechen und Leiden zu ihm, Besessene, Mondsüchtige und Gelähmte, und er heilte sie.25Scharen von Menschen aus Galiläa, der Dekapolis, aus Jerusalem und Judäa und aus dem Gebiet jenseits des Jordan folgten ihm nach.
1The Holy Spirit led Jesus into the desert. There the devil tempted him.2After 40 days and 40 nights of going without eating, Jesus was hungry.3The tempter came to him. He said, ‘If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.’4Jesus answered, ‘It is written, “Man must not live only on bread. He must also live on every word that comes from the mouth of God.” ’ (5Mo 8,3)5Then the devil took Jesus to the holy city. He had him stand on the highest point of the temple.6‘If you are the Son of God,’ he said, ‘throw yourself down. It is written, ‘ “The Lord will command his angels to take good care of you. They will lift you up in their hands. Then you won’t trip over a stone.” ’ (Ps 91,11; Ps 91,12)7Jesus answered him, ‘It is also written, “Do not test the Lord your God.” ’ (5Mo 6,16)8Finally, the devil took Jesus to a very high mountain. He showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory.9‘If you bow down and worship me,’ he said, ‘I will give you all this.’10Jesus said to him, ‘Get away from me, Satan! It is written, “Worship the Lord your God. He is the only one you should serve.” ’ (5Mo 6,13)11Then the devil left Jesus. Angels came and took care of him.
Jesus begins to preach
12John had been put in prison. When Jesus heard about this, he returned to Galilee.13Jesus left Nazareth and went to live in the city of Capernaum. It was by the lake in the area of Zebulun and Naphtali.14In that way, what the prophet Isaiah had said came true. He had said,15‘Land of Zebulun! Land of Naphtali! Galilee, where Gentiles live! Land along the Mediterranean Sea! Territory east of the River Jordan!16The people who are now living in darkness have seen a great light. They are now living in a very dark land. But a light has shone on them.’ (Jes 9,1; Jes 9,2)17From that time on Jesus began to preach. ‘Turn away from your sins!’ he said. ‘The kingdom of heaven has come near.’
Jesus chooses his first disciples
18One day Jesus was walking beside the Sea of Galilee. There he saw two brothers, Simon Peter and his brother Andrew. They were throwing a net into the lake, because they were fishermen.19‘Come and follow me,’ Jesus said. ‘I will send you out to fish for people.’20At once they left their nets and followed him.21Going on from there, he saw two other brothers. They were James, son of Zebedee, and his brother John. They were in a boat with their father Zebedee. As they were preparing their nets, Jesus called out to them.22Right away they left the boat and their father and followed Jesus.
Jesus heals ill people
23Jesus went all over Galilee. There he taught in the synagogues. He preached the good news of God’s kingdom. He healed every illness and disease the people had.24News about him spread all over Syria. People brought to him all who were suffering different kinds of illnesses. Some were suffering great pain. Others were controlled by demons. Some were shaking wildly. Others couldn’t move at all. And Jesus healed all of them.25Large crowds followed him. People came from Galilee, from the area known as the Ten Cities, and from Jerusalem and Judea. Others came from the area across the River Jordan.
